Why is the nozzle not spraying?
Instead of a burnt-out insert, install only a fuse of the appropriate rating. Installing fuses designed for high current can result in a vehicle fire.
- The pump has failed. A breakdown can be caused by blocking the rotation of the impeller wheel with dirt or corrosion. The power of the electric motor is not enough to rotate the armature shaft of the electric motor. In some types of construction, corrosion and dirt block the rotation of the motor armature.
- The washer nozzle sprays poorly or does not spray at all, as the nozzle channel is clogged. The cause of the malfunction is corrosion of the channels inside the nozzle and debris entering the tank.
- Motor circuit malfunction. Failure of the steering column switch, an open circuit due to damaged wires, or the formation of oxides on the terminals are the most likely reasons why the windshield washer does not work.
- The hose has torn, broken, or jumped off the pump fitting. Carefully inspect the transition of the hose from the engine compartment to the hood, the secure fit of the hoses to the fittings of the injectors and washer pump.
- The washer fluid in the reservoir has frozen.
Why the washer does not work: front and rear window
When the rear window washer does not work or the windshield washer does not work, the reasons may be different. At the same time, for both the rear and front washer, the problems themselves are not particularly different in nature.
As a rule, all glass washer failures can be divided into two types: faulty mechanics or electrical parts.
- Let's start with the mechanics. As a rule, such breakdowns are the most common. Usually the tank itself or the pipes may fail. In other words, if the driver is firmly convinced that there should be sufficient fluid in the tank, but there is no supply to the windshield, the tank and pipes should be checked for cracks and other defects.
Usually, if the reservoir is cracked, a noticeable leak will appear immediately when you try to add fluid or a little later. In this case, the tank must be removed, inspected, tried to be soldered, or immediately replaced with a new one.
As for the pipes, which can simply fly off or burst, when you try to turn on the washer, a leak will also appear. It often happens that the liquid does not reach the injectors. At the same time, when you open the hood, you can see that the thin washer hose has flown off the bottom of the nozzle and the liquid simply flows from the pipe into the engine compartment.
It also happens that the hoses are simply crushed by something (for example, mistakes were made when installing the frill, or the owner was installing hood insulation and accidentally pinched the elastic hoses). In this case, the lines must be cleared, ensuring a normal supply of liquid to the nozzles.
- By the way, in winter, water or summer windshield wiper fluid freezes in the reservoir or near the nozzles. The result is that the pump hums, but no liquid is supplied to the glass. To avoid such problems, it is not recommended to pour water in both summer and winter (water renders nozzle nozzles unusable). Also in winter you need to use only winter windshield wiper (anti-freeze for car windshield washer).
If the water or summer washer fluid in the reservoir has already turned into ice, you can start the engine and let the engine run for a while. Due to the heat from the internal combustion engine, there is a chance that the liquid will melt, after which it can be completely drained or diluted.
However, in practice, in cold weather it is often impossible to remove ice from the washer fluid reservoir in this way. To solve the problem, the car needs to be driven into a warm garage or parking lot.
You can also pour special anti-ice compounds into the tank, or use regular medical alcohol or vodka. By the way, the last two methods should be practiced in extreme cases, since when using the washer in the cabin there will be a persistent smell of alcohol with all the ensuing consequences.
- The windshield or rear window washer nozzles are clogged. This problem will also result in no fluid supply. Typically, this often happens when plain tap water is poured into the system. So, the nozzles and their nozzles become dirty, since the water contains a large number of impurities.
Moreover, if the water comes from dirty pipes, then this may cause additional scratches on the glass. Such scratches occur as a result of small but hard particles falling on the glass, after which the car brush scratches the surface of the glass with such particles.
The main symptom of clogged nozzles is that at first liquid is supplied, but less intensely, then the nozzles pour in an uneven stream and then the liquid practically does not pass through them. In such a situation, you need to either replace or clean the windshield washer nozzles.
- The list ends with a possible failure of the mechanical part of the windshield wiper motor in the pump. Simply put, the pump may hum, but not pump liquid. It is also possible when the pump does not work completely (jammed, does not make sounds).
One way or another, this problem will mean that the pump needs to be removed, after which an in-depth diagnosis will be carried out. Based on the data obtained, you can make a decision about the possibility and feasibility of repairs, as well as the need to replace the windshield washer pump with a new element.
Draining liquid without dismantling
I cannot guarantee that the methods discussed will suit any car. There is only one universal method, but its use should be approached with extreme care.
First, look at the owner's manual for your car and see how the manufacturer itself recommends draining the windshield washer fluid from the windshield washer reservoir. Then decide whether to follow these instructions or use an alternative method.
First way
. It is universal and will fit all cars without exception. The idea is to squeeze the liquid out through the nozzles themselves. Extremely simple, but with its pitfalls. It is better to use it in situations where there is very little composition in the tank, and you do not have the time or opportunity to completely drain it. The simplicity lies in the fact that here you just need to turn on the washer and wait until the reservoir is empty. But there is also a difficulty. Working without stopping, the washer motor may fail. Be sure to give him time to rest.
Second way
. It involves draining using a hose from the washer itself. On many cars the method works easily and simply, and there are no problems with its implementation. You will need to remove your summer or winter windshield wiper blades by snapping them off. Be sure to wrap fabric around the leash. Next, open the hood and prepare a container for draining. Find the hose in the area where the injectors branch. Disconnect the hose and lower its end into the bottle. Turn on the engine and activate the window washer. The liquid will begin to gradually drain.
There is another option. It involves draining directly from the tank itself.
Third way
. Again, not suitable for all cars. Here you need:
- gain access to the tank;
- To do this, remove the linings or other easily dismantled elements;
- prepare a container for draining;
- find where the motor is located;
- unscrew the electric motor from the tank;
- place a container under it;
- wait for complete drainage;
- turn on the washer motor;
- return all parts to their place;
- add new fluid.
Alternatively, you can use a large syringe with a nipple attached to it to reach the bottom of the tank. The method is not the fastest, but you don’t have to remove or dismantle anything.
But what you shouldn’t do is insert one end of the hose into the tank, try to suck the mixture out with your mouth, and pour it into a container for draining. Swallowing such a liquid, even in small quantities, can cause serious poisoning.
Video instructions for replacing the windshield wiper trapezoid
After disconnecting the mechanism parts, you can repair the gear or install a new motor. But the electric motor must be inspected, even if it is in working condition. It is a conventional DC electric motor, the rotation of which, through a worm gearbox, is supplied to a trapezoid.
Walk over the collector with a cloth soaked in solvent. If there is a lot of wear, you need to change the armature or motor. Defects on the gear will require it to be replaced. Assembly occurs in reverse order. Therefore, before installing a replacement electric motor, you need to clean the trapezoid from contamination, lubricate the rubbing elements, motor and gearbox.
Trapezius problems
The trapezoid transmits rotational movements from the electric motor to the wipers and ensures the reciprocating movement of the wipers while cleaning the glass. Interruptions in the operation of wipers occur due to problems with the trapezoid; oxidized bushings and corrosion on the axles lead to jamming and slow operation of the mechanism. You can remove the trapezoid with a flat-head screwdriver. To set the correct position when installing the trapezoid, you must:
- set the motor to the initial position;
- place the crank and short rod parallel to each other;
- After that, attach the motor to the trapezoid.

Useful tips
If the fuse constantly blows, then this is a reason to think about the correct operation of this circuit. We also do not recommend making changes to the design unless absolutely necessary.
Where are the Lada Granta fuses located? The fuse box is located near the driver’s left foot. To open the lid, pull the lower left corner of the lid (No. 1) and release the left locking point, then the middle one (No. 2) and the two right locking points (No. 3 and 6). Then release the top points (No. 4 and 5) and remove the cover. How to open the cover of the Lada Granta mounting block Installing the cover of the mounting block is done in the following order: first snap the right side of the cover, then the lower ones, then the upper ones. Make sure that the fastening elements of the cover are aligned exactly with the metal fasteners. If the windshield washer does not work in winter
Windshield washer does not work in winter
In winter, the reasons for washer failure may be the same as in summer, but they are added to those associated with freezing of the liquid. On modern cars, the washer reservoirs are located outside the warm engine compartment; the diluted “anti-freeze” can turn into a mess of ice crystals. Do not dilute it unless meteorologists predict it will be warmer than 5 degrees below zero.
Do not use diluted windshield washer fluid in winter.
If the liquid is frozen in the tubes, then no amount of heating of the injectors will help. The most effective way is to remove all the tubes with injectors and warm them up. But it’s better to find a friend with a warm garage and after “thawing”, bleed the system with undiluted winter windshield washer fluid.
Health is more expensive, and you can “break wood” by working with numb fingers.
Perhaps not everything is covered in this article, but it can serve as a catalyst and you yourself will find your own creative solution to the problem.
A very unpleasant situation can happen on the road if your windshield washer does not work. Moreover, you can find out about this right at the moment of a growing problem, when your glass is very dirty and you can hardly see anything. Well, we stop, turn on the emergency lights, wash the glass manually and go to the garage to figure out what the problem is.
How to replace the motor?
Unfortunately, this part is quite difficult to repair. And often replacing a windshield washer pump is even cheaper than fixing an old one. Therefore, it is better to immediately order a new part and not have to worry about repairs.
Replacing the washer pump:
Replacing the device is easy:
- Before you begin replacing, remove all remaining fluid from the reservoir.
- Locate the contact connecting the pump to the battery. Carefully disconnect the power.
- The next point is optional. You can disconnect the tank by unscrewing the bolts that secure it. However, if manual dexterity allows you to manipulate the fixed tank, you can do without dismantling it.
- Remove the electric pump from the tank and unscrew the tubes.
Attention! Remember where and which hose was screwed on. In the future, they will have to be placed clearly in their places.
- So, now we take out a new pump and connect it to the system.
- Screw the tubes back into place.
- If the tank has been dismantled, put it in place and tighten the bolts.
- We connect the contact from the battery so that the motor has something to power from.
- Fill the water back.
Then press the washer lever. If there is a buzzing sound, it means the motor is running.
How to remove and wash injectors
The windshield washer nozzles are held in place by plastic clips. To remove the injector without damaging the body, check its number in the original spare parts catalog. By finding a photo of the injector by number, you will see exactly where the latches are located. You can remove the nozzle with a thin slotted screwdriver.
For cleaning, you can use a needle smaller than the diameter of the sprayer hole. We recommend that you first leave clogged injectors in a citric acid solution for some time. After soaking, the deposit can be removed using carburetor cleaner or compressed air.
Driving a car turns into torture if the windshield is covered with streaks of dirt. Trying to see what is happening ahead, the driver gets tired and has less control over the situation on the road. And the wipers scratch the glass, spreading abrasive dirt over it.
Let's look at the most common faults. Perhaps, after reading this article, you will be able to independently cope with diagnostics and repairs right in the yard of your home. Let’s discuss several points at once so as not to repeat ourselves many times in the future:
- a description of the method for finding the cause of the malfunction will be presented continuously. That is, we will assume that the breakdown has not yet been fixed. If everything works for you, complete the repair.
- If any actions are beyond your competence or the necessary tools and spare parts are not available, go to a store or car service center.
Mechanical damage
- Lack of washer fluid in the tank. If there is too little water left or there is none at all, the pump simply will not be able to capture it. Treated with a simple dressing. In winter, the washer does not work due to the freezing of this very liquid. The problem can be easily solved by warming up the engine to operating temperature. But in the cold season, experts recommend using washing liquid with special antifreeze.
- There may also be problems with the washer supply hose to the nozzles. In this case, expensive liquid will fly into the engine compartment or simply onto the highway. The causes are often a hose coming off or squeezing when closing the hood. We recommend checking the condition of the mechanism before each trip.
- It would be a good idea to check the injectors as well. They become clogged with impurities in the water and damaged by roadside scorched liquid. And physical failure cannot be ruled out either. First, clean out the old ones. If this does not help, you can easily replace them with new ones. It is advisable to opt for fan sprayers, which wet the surface better than their analogues.
Setting up injectors
Windshield washer nozzles are a part with a plastic housing, inside of which there are ball-shaped nozzles. They can be easily adjusted at the discretion of the car owner. To do this, just use a simple needle.
Windshield washer nozzles
The adjustment depends on the type of nozzle installed. In most cases these are jet mechanisms, although fan-type ones are also found. Let's look at the features of each type of adjustment.
- The outer nozzles of the three-jet must be positioned so that they hit the bottom of the glass, and the central nozzle hits the top. In this way, it will be possible to avoid micro-scratches when the wipers operate on dry glass, and the driver’s visibility will be preserved.
- One of the advantages of the fan nozzle is that there is no need for adjustment. There are simply no moving elements. A single nozzle evenly distributes the washer fluid over the glass surface.
New Lada: On which engine models do the valves bend?
Adjustment
The jet consists of a plastic frame. Inside it there are several nozzles in which liquid is injected under pressure onto the glass. To adjust them, you need to have a regular needle with you; you can use it to turn the nozzle in the desired direction. Carefully insert the needle into the nozzle and point it in the direction you need. Do not point the nozzle very high and also do not lower it very low. Adjust to the parts of glass you need. When installing three-jet nozzles on a machine, do not place them at the same level. It will be convenient if the side nozzles are directed along the lower side parts, and the middle one is slightly above the middle. This will protect the glass from micro-scratches that could occur if the wipers “walked on dry”; also, the sprayed liquid will not interfere with the driver’s view of the road.
Windshield washer - is it convenient without it?
The glass can become so dirty that an emergency stop is required even in dry sunny weather, let alone winter driving on city and highway roads. If it’s raining outside, even with the washer not working, you can brush off the dirt with the wiper blades, since the glass is already wet.
Even during snow, this is possible when the snow melts slightly from the warm glass. But when a sunny winter day is darkened by splashes from under the wheels of cars in front, and the washer system has malfunctioned, you don’t really want to rub dirt on the glass, this will quickly lead to a huge number of scratches, and visibility will not significantly improve.
There may be several reasons for such unexpected desertion of your car, for example, simple negligence on your part when you forgot to promptly fill the windshield washer reservoir with water or a special liquid, or a breakdown in the system itself.
Without going into details about the structure of the washer, you should remember a few rules, the implementation of which will ensure that you can clean the windshield at any time. Firstly, do not forget to periodically add water to the tank, because it can simply run out, then the emergency situation will be on your conscience.
Method for heating washer jets without using electricity
In winter, anti-freeze is poured into the glass washer system reservoir, but this procedure does not always prevent the liquid in the system (including the injectors) from freezing. However, there is a simple technique that can ensure that the washer jets are heated in cold weather with the heat coming from the car’s engine. This technique is suitable for all cars whose washer jets are located on the hood, including Grants. It can be done independently and quite quickly, within about five minutes.
First, right under the injectors, certain places are marked on the thermal insulation of the hood; the diameter of the marks should not exceed 2, maximum 3 cm. Then holes are cut out in the marked places with a stationery knife. This concludes your work. Now the thermal energy released by the engine will be spent on warming the hood near the injectors and the jets themselves, contributing to the natural defrosting of the washer fluid. Thanks to this modernization, you will be able to use the washer services even in the most severe frosts.

Finding the cause of the breakdown
To determine the breakdown due to which the glass washer has stopped working, use the method of elimination.
- Turn on the windshield washer (there is no need to start the engine, just turn on the ignition). Listen for a buzzing sound coming from where the tank is installed, indicating that the electric motor is turning on. If the motor hums, look for the cause of the failure in the hoses and injectors.
- The electric motor does not turn on. Disconnect the pump connector. If there is enough space around the reservoir, the pump can be checked without removal. To check why the motor is not working, it is enough to directly supply power to its contacts from the battery. To do this, you will need two pieces of wire, one end of which is attached to the positive and negative terminals of the battery. Using the mating parts of the wires, briefly touch the terminals of the windshield washer motor. If there is no immediate reaction, apply voltage in a mirror manner (you can avoid this error if you first study the circuit diagram for turning on the pump on your car). If the motor works, the washer does not work due to problems in the control circuit. Otherwise, the reason is in the pump itself.
Principle of operation
The windshield and rear window cleaning system is based on an electrically driven pump. The armature shaft of the motor is connected to a paddle wheel, which, when rotated, supplies washer fluid through hoses to the windshield washer nozzles. The sealing collar prevents washer fluid from entering the electric motor.
It is the leakage that becomes the main reason why the windshield washer pump does not work. Water and glass washer fluid getting inside start the corrosion process, deteriorating the quality of the contacts and increasing the resistance to rotation of the pump armature.
A DC motor is used as a motor. There are at least 2 types of design:
In most systems, separate pumps are installed for different circuits. But in some cars, one electric motor can wash both the rear window and the windshield. In this case, the direction of fluid supply depends on the polarity of the voltage supplied to the electric motor. For variable supply of liquid in different directions, a check valve is used in the design.

Autumn is the time for rain and modernization of the windshield cleaning system
Initially, I didn’t really like the standard windshield washer nozzles. I’ve been wanting to install fan-shaped ones for a long time, but somehow I never got around to it. Moreover, I have already tried different options on previous cars - from expensive Volvo injectors to cheap ones. With Volvo nozzles, depending on your luck, the jet height is not adjustable. The best option is the familiar fan nozzles for vases with adjustable jet height. More than one owner of Santa and other cars installed them; there are a lot of entries about them in the logbooks. The issue price is 30-60 rubles. per piece, sold in any general store. There are different options with Bukowski H or G on the body. I picked up these injectors for free in the BI BI store (AUTO 49) for the points that were on the bonus card
Installation is very simple. You just need to open the hood, tighten the tendrils that attach the original injectors and install new ones. After installation I was not satisfied. The fact is that the brushes are rubbed dry for a very long time until water is pumped into the nozzles. It immediately became clear that check valves need to be installed. There are a lot of options: DOMINANT TO85032126020
70 rub.NSP NSP048532126020
RUB 70 TOYOTA 85321-26020
200 rub. VOLVO 30896546
200 rub. (single check valve)VOLVO 1392074
500 rub. (check valve through passage (three outlets))
In fact, the design of the check valve is elementary - a ball in a tube with limiters. Therefore, the most economical car owners install a check valve for the aquarium. It costs 20 rubles. I just ordered 3 single valves from Toyota and didn’t save money. Installation of the valves is also elementary. We cut the hoses in the right place (preferably closer to the nozzle) and install the nozzle, observing the direction of water movement according to the arrow on the valve.
I ordered the third valve for a reason. We open the trunk and next to the seal we see a tube to the rear window washer nozzle. We cut the tube and install a check valve in the gap.
As a result, the nozzles fire instantly, even before the first stroke of the brushes. It became especially noticeable on the rear window. I don't really understand why they didn't do this at the factory. Now I drive with one hand, and with the other I wipe away tears of joy when using the washer. I hope this is useful to someone.
Operating principle and connection diagram
The pump consists of a centrifugal wheel that is rotated by a DC electric motor. The liquid captured by the wheel is supplied through tubes to the nozzles. Below is the simplest diagram for switching on the glass washer for VAZ 2104, 2105, 2107 cars.
The washer pump (No. 3) has two power wires. appears on the black-yellow wire after turning on the ignition. The wire is protected by fuse F2 and approaches the mounting fuse block No. 4 through the fourth contact of the wiper motor connector. The gray-black wire is connected to the windshield washer button (No. 5), mounted in the steering column switch block No. 6.
When the driver activates the windshield washer, the contacts inside the switch close, the gray-black wire connects to the vehicle ground - current begins to flow in the windshield washer circuit.
On VAZ 2110, 2111, 2112, relay K2 is responsible for turning on the windshield washer. It is through this that it is supplied to the pump connector. The second terminal of the electric motor is connected to the car body. A method of constructing a circuit close to this is used on most modern cars.
Causes of failure
- The windshield washer pump fuse has blown. Manufacturers mark consumers who are protected by fuse links with graphic symbols on the inside of the relay and fuse box cover. If the markings are unclear or the required insert is not marked, a detailed fuse location diagram can be found in the repair and operating manual for your car. Attention! Installing a larger fuse may cause the vehicle to catch fire. If the new fuse-link burns out immediately after installation, there is a short circuit in the circuit.
- The windshield washer motor is burnt out or soured. The low cost of the pump makes its disassembly and repair impractical, so simply replace it with a new one.
- The contacts on the connectors have oxidized, the power wires have become frayed or broken. In field conditions, oxides can be removed from the terminals with a sharp object. At the same time, do not damage or bend the terminals so as not to disrupt the quality of contact in the connector.
- The coarse filter in front of the windshield washer pump is clogged (not installed on all cars). The filter is attached to an O-ring that seals the pump installation location. If trouble catches you on the road and you cannot clean the filter element, temporarily remove it from the line.
- The hose from the pump to the injectors has fallen off or broken.
- The injectors are clogged. In winter, injectors can become clogged not only with debris and plaque, but also with ice. After using the windshield wiper, a washer fluid remains on the nozzles, from which the alcohol evaporates over time. The water remaining near the nozzle freezes, which is why the windshield washer does not work. You can pierce the injectors with a thin needle.
- The fluid in the washer reservoir has frozen.
Removal instructions
The washer reservoir can become damaged for various reasons. If frost sets in and you forgot to fill in the frost-resistant liquid, in the morning there is a chance to see a burst container under the hood that will have to be replaced. The quality of the washer fluid is also not the best, which can lead to the same result. Regardless of the reasons, the burst reservoir must be removed from under the hood. This job has its own procedure, which differs depending on the make of the car. The fastenings can be either different or similar, and for work most often you need a flat-head screwdriver, as well as 10 and 13 keys.
Repairing an old tank is possible, however, the money and time spent on it are not always worth it. To put it more clearly, even a repaired tank will not perform all the functions assigned to it, it will look less aesthetically pleasing, and the service life after repair will still be reduced, because the wear of the plastic can be great. If possible, you should not neglect repairs. For older cars, repairs are acceptable; everything will work fine until it wears out completely. If you do not want to give preference to repairing this part in your car, it is best to go to the store.
There is a good chance you will find a tank that will fit your car according to its characteristics, and will be even larger in size. If the product is not the original model, it will be even cheaper, and in terms of characteristics – no less productive. There are tanks with a sensor for washer fluid and they are not difficult to buy. If the fasteners match, then the new system can be installed, even if its shape is slightly different from the original system previously installed in the car. If you want to maintain the make and equipment of your car, look for a tank that looks the same as yours.
How to remove the washer reservoir on a Lada Kalina?
What will be needed to replace the washer reservoir? To work, take a flat-blade screwdriver and a 10mm wrench.
- The first stage is unscrewing one nut and mounting bolt. The pumps can be removed with a screwdriver or simply by pulling them by hand. Next comes the clamp, which serves as a hose fastening. If it cannot be removed, then you can cut it and then install a new one - such hoses do not cost much. Note: before starting work, water or other liquid must be removed, as it may spill during the removal process.
- Once you have unscrewed the nut and bolt fastening, you can remove the container itself. During the procedure, you can replace worn-out pumps, hoses and wires by installing new ones.
Cleaning the injectors
Their replacement and cleaning occurs in the same way and it begins with the removal of these parts, the process is as follows:
- open the hood;
- make sure that they have plastic plugs; if they are present, they must be carefully removed;
- take a flat-head screwdriver and open their spring fasteners to remove the injectors.
New Lada: Clutch adjustment on Lada Kalina - subtleties and different points
Installation of new parts occurs in the reverse order.
To wash the injectors and free them from dirt, you should prepare a special cleaning solution of non-chlorinated water and vinegar, taken in equal proportions. The mixture is mixed well and then poured into the tank. After which you need to press the washer lever, even if the water does not reach the glass, it’s okay.
For sprayers that are too clogged, you need to prepare a wire and, after disconnecting the hose, insert it into the nozzle up to the nozzle.
conclusions
If the rear or windshield washer fails, any problem can be quickly resolved, the main thing is to find the cause of the malfunction. In case of problems with nozzles and their complete replacement, it is better to choose these fan-type parts; they wet the glass better. Problems with the integrity or partial deformation of connecting tubes are best solved by connecting new cords. To avoid the listed problems with the washer system, you should use non-chlorinated water in warm weather, and “anti-freeze” water in cold weather.

Common faults and solutions
The reasons why wipers do not work on cars, regardless of whether it is a UAZ or a S7, are basically the same. Below are the malfunctions and methods for eliminating them.
Malfunction | Remedy |
The wipers do not work in both modes. | In this case, you should check the fuses. If they are burnt out, they need to be replaced with new ones. If only the contacts have oxidized, you need to pull out the fuses several times and put them in place. It may be necessary to replace the VAZ wiper trapezoid. |
Brushes do not work only in intermittent mode. | In this case, you first need to check the power supply. If there is voltage, then the cause of the breakdown is in the relay. |
The wiper switch is faulty | Change three lever switch |
The wipers work, but when turned off they remain in an arbitrary position. The reason may be a breakdown of the gearbox, since it contains a limit switch. | It is necessary to clean the contacts or bend the switch plate. If necessary, the gearbox should be replaced. |
The electric motor does not work. | In this case, you need to dismantle the electric motor and check the condition of the windings and brushes. |
The brushes do not move when the gearbox is running. | The gear teeth are broken and need to be replaced. The crank may be loosely secured to the gear; you need to tighten the fastening nut. |
The problem is mainly mechanical - the trapezoid breaks. When repairing wipers, many replace standard products with frameless ones. They have an attractive appearance, adhere better to the glass, and do not have hinged joints, so they are not affected by dirt and icing.
Frameless brushes for cars
The design of a glass cleaner is a complex mechanism consisting of a large number of parts. Any of them can fail, which will lead to either a complete failure of the mechanism or poor cleaning of the glass.
If you understand the electrical circuit of the windshield wiper mechanism, you can do the maintenance yourself.
Information
Unfortunately, for some reason this did not affect the Lada Granta model. We will not figure out why the part is not included in the factory equipment, but will simply look at how to install it yourself. Moreover, such modification requires minimal labor costs and financial investments. To eliminate this shortcoming on your own will require, at most, only about 10 minutes of free time. The check valve is easy and simple to install. This is a rare case when it is impossible to recommend performing work through the service.
As an implant, either a domestic part is used - fuel valve 2108-1156010, or a Toyota brand check valve. The first option is cheap, which is a plus, but large in size, which is a minus. Because over time, overextended pipes at the junction with the valve can crack, especially in winter. The second, although relatively more expensive, is optimally suited to the location. In addition, reliability has always been one of the main advantages of Japanese technology. At the same time, given the low price level in general, the cost of this product is also very low. In both cases, it will not exceed 100 rubles, which is affordable for any car owner. Therefore, it is recommended to settle on a solution using a Toyota check valve.
The design and principle of operation of a car glass washer
Although driving a car with a faulty washer is not a traffic violation, such breakdowns can cause serious accidents. For this reason, the problem must be solved immediately. To determine why the front window washer does not work and/or the rear washer does not work, it is necessary to separately study the operating principle and design features of the washer system itself.
Note that the windshield washer mechanism is not complicated. Among the main components are:
- windshield/rear window washer motor (washer pump);
- windshield washer reservoir for storing the cleaner in liquid form;
- washer nozzles, electrical wiring, pipes and valves.
We also add that in addition to supplying fluid to the windshield and rear window, the washer on some car models is also capable of cleaning headlights and mirrors. It should also be noted that many modern cars have a washer fluid level sensor.
The principle of operation of the windshield washer is that a pump under pressure pumps liquid from the reservoir through the pipes to the nozzles. In turn, jet or fan nozzles spray liquid, delivering the cleaner to the surface of the glass.
The feed occurs before the wiper blades swing. This means that normally the brush should rub against wet glass, not dry glass. It is for this purpose that the system has a valve that does not allow the liquid to completely drain into the tank. The result is that liquid is always supplied before the wipers start working.
Regarding the features of individual elements of the system:
- The windshield washer reservoir usually has a volume of 2-2.5 to 5 liters. The specified element is located in the engine compartment; it can be located either in a relatively accessible place or hidden under the bumper. The installation location can be determined by the filler neck of the tank. There may also be a protrusion on the reservoir for installing a washer pump;
- The pump is attached to the reservoir and is actually an electric motor with an oil seal, impeller and brushes. Often there can be two motors (pumps) on a car, where liquid can be supplied not only to the windshield, but also to the rear window. There may also be a coarse filter in front of the pump;
- Windshield wiper nozzles (nozzles) spray liquid onto the windshield. Their installation location is the hood or the lining between the engine compartment and the windshield (the so-called frill). As a rule, two nozzles are installed in order to uniformly and completely supply liquid to the center of the windshield.
In practice, modern cars are equipped with fan-shaped washer nozzles, as they are more efficient. Models from previous years have jet nozzles. Such nozzles are more reliable and durable, however, they do not consume liquid as efficiently and also require adjustment. To adjust the jet nozzle, turn the nozzle with a needle and adjust the direction of the jet.
Adjustment
Another important element of maintaining your car's windshield washer system is adjusting the nozzles. It is required if the jet coming out of the nozzle is directed in the wrong direction.
The process itself is simple and will take just a few minutes. And how to adjust? There is no need to remove or dismantle anything. Just do the following:
- take a regular needle or pin;
- insert it with a sharp edge into the nozzle (there are 2-3 nozzles in total);
- depending on where the jet is directed, start turning the needle in the required direction;
- if the jet goes above the glass, we turn it down, and if it sprays very low, we move up;
- left and right are adjusted in the same way.
Such manipulations are possible due to the fact that the sprayers themselves have the shape of a ball rotating inside a plastic housing. Therefore, a simple needle can act as an excellent adjustment tool.

As you can see, cleaning and adjusting the windshield sprayers on your car is very simple. You just need to monitor their condition and carry out preventive measures on time. But if the injectors completely stop working, then you will have to spend from 60 to 600 rubles, depending on the car, and replace the old devices with new ones.

It’s unlikely that anyone would argue that the windshield is an important part of a car. After all, it provides good visibility, if, of course, it is in perfect condition
All drivers use a windshield washer to remove any dirt in bad weather, this increases the level of safety.
Of course, sooner or later the injectors fail and they must be adjusted in any case, since this is for your safety. It may seem that you can do without them, in most cases this is true, but in bad weather you will regret your decision.
