Why did the oil pressure indicator light come on in a VAZ 2114/15 car: we are looking for reasons and solutions

Location and design of the oil level sensor

Low engine oil level light on the instrument panel (marked with a red arrow) Low engine oil pressure light on the instrument panel (marked with a red arrow) should not be confused with a low oil level. So, it becomes clear that the lighting of the oil level light is inextricably linked directly to the sensor . Before determining the problem, you need to understand the location of the sensor under the hood.

The oil level sensor is located near the oil filter on the block, at the bottom.

The sensor has a tube that extends almost to the bottom of the crankcase. The contact group sends a signal to the corresponding indicators. For the VAZ-2114, until 2004, the electrical connections went directly to the dashboard, like the “nine”. But, after modernizing the car, since 2004, the contact connections of the electrical circuit were laid through an electronic control unit, which should control the operation of the sensors and the engine as a whole.

Useful tips

To prevent problems associated with a drop in oil pressure, the following recommendations should be followed:

  • Fill the engine with oil recommended by the car manufacturer, paying attention to the viscosity grade.
  • Change the oil and oil filter in a timely manner.
  • Do not use non-original spare parts for repairs.
  • At least once a quarter, carry out diagnostics of the lubrication system with mandatory pressure measurement.
  • If the pressure indicator light comes on, do not operate the vehicle until a complete diagnosis has been carried out.

Ignoring the oil pressure indicator signals can have serious consequences for the car engine. Any malfunction of the lubrication system can lead to a major overhaul of the power unit. Try to keep it in working condition and pay attention to all signals given by the indicator light.

Elimination methods

Now you can go directly to the elimination methods. First, you need to figure out what tools you may need to complete the process: a 10mm wrench, a multimeter, a set of screwdrivers. Now that everything is collected, you can move directly to solving problems.

Low oil level on dipstick

The dipstick is used to measure the oil level in the engine.

Oil production and wear can affect its level, so it is worth checking this indicator regularly.

Also, the cause of oil loss in the engine may be a faulty gasket or a breakdown in the engine crankcase . In order to eliminate oil loss, it was necessary to eliminate the malfunctions that caused the effect, and then add oil to the required level.

To measure the oil level, there is a special tool called an oil dipstick. It is located on the front of the engine. The oil level in the engine should be midway between the minimum and maximum indicators. When the indicator drops below the MIN mark, the oil level indicator lights up on the dashboard.

Sensor malfunction

A sensor malfunction can also cause an oil level indicator to appear on the dashboard. To eliminate the malfunction, you need to check the sensor, and if it is faulty, replace the part.

Old and new oil level sensor The replacement process is quite simple and not complicated. Let's consider the issue in more detail. To complete the operation, you will need a key for 10. So, let’s proceed directly to the sequence of actions aimed at replacing the sensor:

  1. The car must be installed so that there is access from below. A viewing hole, a lift or an overpass is suitable for this.
  2. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery.
    Remove the negative terminal from the battery.
  3. If there is, it is necessary to remove the lower engine protection.
    Remove the engine crankcase protection.
  4. We dismantle the pallet.
    You must first drain the oil from the engine through the drain plug. We dismantle the pallet.
  5. Disconnect the wire block from the sensor. We clean the engine oil level sensor from dirt. Disconnect the block from the wires.
  6. Using a 10mm wrench or socket, unscrew the oil level sensor.
  7. We install a new sensor and carry out the necessary assembly.

Contact circuit problem

Diagnostics of the fuel level sensor chip More than once, the cause may be a break in the wires or contact group that goes from the sensor to the electronic control unit. Based on the electrical diagram of the car, we find the corresponding wire that powers the meter. Next, we find exactly the same one in the ECU and call it.

If there is no contact, then a break has occurred in this area and should be repaired. We carry out the same procedure with the remaining wires.

Short circuit inside the instrument panel

More than once, a short circuit inside the dashboard board can be the cause of a light on the dashboard. This may be caused by corrosion damage or a short circuit inside the instrument panel. Thus, the solution to the problem may be to repair the board or replace the instrument cluster.

Checking the contacts of the dashboard board It is quite easy to determine the malfunction: you just have to disassemble the device and look at the contact connections. Also, to be completely sure, you can ring the contacts on the board and directly on the indicator lamp itself, using a tester.

Malfunctions in the VAZ-2114 ECU

The last possible option to look for a fault is the electronic control unit. Errors may occur here that will not only cause the oil level light to light up, but also cause other indicators to malfunction, such as the speedometer, turn signal, and others.

The method of troubleshooting is to connect a laptop or tablet to the “brains” of the car via an OBD cable and a standard test. If errors related to the oil level are detected in the ECU, they must be reset. The procedure for resetting all errors should be done for all indicators that have accumulated in the “brains”. After this, the problem should disappear; if not, then the fault must be looked for elsewhere.

Breaks in the winding

If there is a break in the excitation winding, then the generator does not charge. This is determined simply. It is enough to touch the generator with your hand. If the winding breaks, the device will heat up. To diagnose more accurately, the end of the excitation winding is disconnected from the brush and connected to a terminal on the generator. The measurement is carried out using a multimeter from the battery.

If there are breaks, the multimeter will not show anything. If a signal lamp is used instead of the device, it will not light up. In order to find the problematic coil, wires from the battery are connected to each of them in turn. If the break is inside, the coil is replaced. External breaks are removed using a soldering iron.

conclusions

Determining the reason for the engine oil level light on the VAZ-2114 dashboard is quite simple, even for a novice motorist. Diagnostic operations are carried out simply and clearly. The only problem may be resetting the ECU errors, which is recommended to be entrusted to professionals.

One of the parameters of engine operation is oil pressure. To ensure uninterrupted and high-quality functionality of the power unit, each driver must constantly monitor the maintenance of the required oil level in the engine. If the oil pressure light comes on on the dashboard of a VAZ 2114/2115, you must immediately take some action. The indicator will light up in cases where there are certain problems with the oil pressure in the engine unit system.

Reasons for error 12

The appearance of this error is caused not by one malfunction, but by many different breakdowns. Among them there are both quite rare and very common. Most often the code appears for the following reasons:

  • The “Check” indicator lamp has burned out;
  • The Check Engine light connector is oxidized, dirty, or otherwise defective;
  • Damage to the wiring on the dashboard;
  • Incorrect connection of the indicator;
  • Generator malfunction;
  • Oxidation or damage to contacts;
  • ECU failure.

The code may be displayed for other reasons. Sometimes identifying them requires not self-diagnosis, but checking the car using a diagnostic scanner. In some cases, to identify a breakdown, it is necessary to contact a specialist.

Why does the oil pressure light come on in the VAZ 2114/2115

There are several likely reasons why this car light suddenly comes on. And only based on an accurate determination of the cause can the necessary actions be taken to eliminate the malfunction. The indicator may light up in two cases:

  • at engine idle speed;
  • when the car is moving. Each of these cases has its own causes of malfunctions.

The indicator in the form of an oil can lights up in situations where there is any problem with the oil pressure.

Sensor check

The sensor can only be checked by measuring the oil pressure in the engine using a special pressure gauge. To do this, the suspicious sensor is unscrewed and a fitting is screwed in its place, to which a pressure gauge is connected and the internal combustion engine is started.

The normal oil pressure at XX of a warm VAZ 2114 engine should be at least 2 bar. At speeds above 3000 rpm the pressure should be 4-5 bar.

If the oil pressure is much lower than the permissible parameters, it is necessary to repair the engine, but if the oil pressure is normal, then most likely the sensor is faulty and requires replacement.

The light came on at idle

The oil pressure light may come on (or blink) at idle, and if you press the gas pedal, the icon will immediately go out. In this case, the most likely causes of malfunctions are the following:

  • the crankshaft liners are worn out: the oil pressure will drop due to the fact that the gap between the thinned liner and the car’s connecting rod has increased;
  • the oil receiver mesh is severely clogged: one of the most common reasons why a light bulb suddenly lights up. Various types of sediment are gradually deposited on the surface of the engine sump. At the moment when there are too many deposits, the pump can no longer supply enough oil to operate the engine;
  • wear or any problems in the oil pump: another probable reason why the indicator may light up on a VAZ 2114/2115. Due to a breakdown of the pump itself or any part of it, oil does not enter the engine in the required quantity;
  • the sensor is faulty: it is quite possible that the oil level and the engine itself fully meet their basic characteristics, and the problem lies in the sensor;
  • the wiring is shorted: problems in the car’s electronic system can also cause the engine oil supply system to not operate correctly.

Troubleshooting the cigarette lighter and radio

Before starting repairs, you must find the fuse. Open the rectangular hatch to the left of the steering column of vehicles of the indicated models. Inside it there is a block of all fuse links of automotive electrical wiring. The element in the socket marked F4 is responsible for the operation of the cigarette lighter and radio on the VAZ-2114.

If the fuse looks normal externally, you can determine the open circuit in this place with a simple screwdriver tester. The light on the probe lights up when the element is working. Otherwise, you need to find a new 20 A insert in the repair kit, remove the faulty part from the socket and insert a new one. In most cases the problem is resolved.

If the safety element is working or has been replaced, but the cigarette lighter and radio do not work on the VAZ-2114, do the following:

  1. Check the radio's own fuse. It turns off only the player, so the inspection is carried out in the case when, after replacing the element in the block, only the cigarette lighter and electrical equipment for heating work (general: body and heating system), but the tape recorder is silent. The burnout of its safety element may indicate a breakdown in the music console, so it is recommended to have it checked in a workshop.
  2. Inspect and check the contacts of the fuse socket in the block. This is done if, after replacing the insert, the functionality of all devices is not restored. Tighten loose contacts and clean them from carbon deposits.
  3. Inspect the cigarette lighter and check it with a tester. The peculiarity of the backlight lamp is its serial connection into the electrical circuit. Its burnout causes a break in the circuit of the entire device, and additional electrical appliances connected to the socket (for example, charging a phone) do not work. A working cigarette lighter will work after replacing the lamp.
  4. Burnout of the heating coil is determined with a tester by applying its probes to the cigarette lighter contacts. In a faulty device, the resistance scale (Ohm) will display the value 0 (short circuit) or 1 (burnout). Indirect evidence of a malfunction is the additional devices connected to the socket: if the coil of the cigarette lighter itself burns out, then its socket remains operational and the phone will charge normally. The malfunction can only be eliminated by replacing the device. When purchasing a new one, it is advisable to immediately check its performance.

Sometimes devices stop working due to a break in the wires running from the fuse block to the cigarette lighter or radio. But in this case, only 1 device is always turned off, and the rest, connected through the same element, operate normally.

The oil can indicator light came on while driving.

In cases where the oil pressure light suddenly comes on while the car is moving, it is advisable to stop immediately. Probably the following failure or breakdown occurred:

  • the oil level in the engine unit is below the Min mark;
  • the oil filter could be clogged - this leads to the fact that the pressure invariably decreases;
  • it's time to change the oil - in cases where the car owner does not replace the substance in the engine for a long time, it loses its working properties.

What to do when the oil pressure light is on in a VAZ 2114/2115 car

Depending on the cause of the malfunction, the driver’s actions will differ when this indicator lights up. If the oil pressure light in a VAZ 2114/2115 lights up when the engine is fully warmed up and the car is stopped (idling), the following actions will be required:

  1. If the cause of the malfunction is wear of the crankshaft liner, serious car repairs will be required. Depending on the general condition of the machine, you may need either a complete replacement of the crankshaft, or large-scale repair of the shaft and replacement of the bearings with new ones. It is advisable to contact a car repair shop.
  2. In the event that the oil pressure has dropped due to debris and deposits in the receiver grid, each driver can independently eliminate the cause of such a malfunction. It is necessary to clean the mesh and also remove accumulated debris and adhered dirt from the tray. It is also recommended to flush the engine with special flushing oils at the next oil change.
  3. A faulty oil pump can only be removed in one way - by replacing the pump itself. If the car owner does not understand the design features of the VAZ 2114/2115, then it is also better to seek help from specialists.
  4. If the oil pressure sensor is faulty, it is also recommended to replace it. It should be noted that recently, more and more often, owners of domestic cars are diagnosing problems with pressure sensors. This is explained by the fact that auto shops and car markets often sell spare parts of dubious quality.
  5. It is better to entrust the search for a short circuit in the wiring to an auto electrician.

The dashboard of the VAZ 2114 is blinking

Hello! Video: the oil pressure light came on at idle, what to do

However, what should be done if the oil pressure light comes on while driving? The first step is to stop on the side of the road or in any convenient place where the car will not become a hindrance to other road users:

  1. After stopping, it is advisable to check the oil level in the engine unit. It is quite possible that its level is below the Min mark, which is why the indicator in the cabin came on. It is necessary to add working fluid and continue driving. If the light comes on due to lack of oil, then the problem is considered solved.
  2. The light may come on immediately after replacing the oil with a new one. This is a completely normal situation. You must wait 20 seconds - the indicator should go out.
  3. If the indicator does not go out, the cause of the malfunction lies in a poor-quality oil filter. We'll have to replace it.

Is it possible to drive with error 12?

It is not advisable to drive, especially on long trips, only if there is a suspicion of a malfunction of the generator or the behavior of the car is very different from usual. The car may stall and not start again. And delivering it to your home or to the place of repair may be associated with certain difficulties. But using a car with such a problem does not threaten anything more serious.

Despite the fact that this code in most cases does not pose any danger to the vehicle and its owner, you should not drive with it for too long. You should solve this problem yourself or with the help of a specialist as quickly as possible. Moreover, many reasons do not require significant financial costs.

Video: the oil pressure light came on while driving, what to do

All other cases (failure of the oil pressure sensor, short circuit, wear of parts) require a specialist. It is necessary to deliver the car to a service station.

In case of a more serious breakdown, you cannot do without special tools and equipment. If you have checked the oil level, are sure that a high-quality filter is installed, and the pump is in fully operational condition, it is almost impossible to independently identify other causes of malfunctions. Therefore, it will be necessary to transport the car by tow truck or tug to a service station in order to identify breakdowns of crankshaft parts and carry out professional repair work.

Constantly monitoring the condition of your vehicle is the task of every driver. This task is especially relevant for owners of domestic cars. Moreover, maintaining the oil level at the required level is the main way to care for the engine unit and maintain the performance of the entire machine.

Sometimes during a trip, drivers notice that the VAZ 2114 oil pressure light on the dashboard of the car lights up. The reason for this is the operation of a special sensor that actually monitors the oil pressure in the system (the existence of which, by the way, not all motorists know).

In order to understand what to do in such a situation, you should first understand how the oil system in a car works and how the sensor that controls it is designed. We will talk about all this in today's article. Oil pressure lamp VAZ 2114.

The light in the interior of the VAZ-2115 does not work: possible reasons

Lighting in the VAZ-2115 is one of the most important components of comfortable movement by car at night. If the interior light does not work, the driver faces a lot of inconvenience.

The light emitted by street lamps will not help you find the desired item in the glove compartment, therefore, it is best for the driver to take care in advance that all the light bulbs and other components of the car’s electrical equipment work stably and reliably. But what to do in a situation if the lighting fixtures in the interior of a VAZ-2115 for some reason refuse to fulfill their duties?

The main reasons for the lack of lighting in the cabin

Inside the VAZ-2115, the manufacturer often installs one lamp located directly on the ceiling and individual lamps. It is attached using fasteners and is activated when the doors are opened. Drivers have been familiar with this principle of operation of a lighting device since the “classic” times. The lamp can also be turned on and off manually using a switch located on its body.

The lampshade and other lighting fixtures are part of the electrical system, therefore, if any malfunctions occur with the light, you should start looking for the problem from the electrical circuit diagram. Most drivers prefer to have their car electrically repaired, but such a nuisance can be fixed on your own. To do this, you need to arm yourself with a minimum set of tools and the circuit itself.

The main reasons for the lack of lighting inside the car are:

  • Burnt out light bulbs;
  • Breakage inside the lampshade;
  • Relay or fuse problem;
  • Breakdowns in the wiring.

When the reason why the lighting fixtures have stopped functioning properly has been determined, you can safely move on to fixing the problem yourself. As a rule, such work does not cause any particular difficulties for novice drivers. All you need is basic knowledge of how automotive electrical equipment works.

Operating principle of the lubrication system

Lubrication of moving engine components occurs according to the following principle: oil gradually flows into a recess located in the sump, after which it is sucked in by an oil pump, passed through an oil filter and again supplied to the loaded components. The latter include:

  • crankshaft plain bearings;
  • cylinder walls;
  • cylinder head;
  • all gear mechanisms.

A sensor that monitors oil pressure is installed at the top of the cylinder head, at the point where the lubricant passages end. Thanks to this, the sensor monitors the oil at all stages of its movement, starting from the oil pump and ending with the camshaft.

The design of the ODM itself (oil pressure sensor) includes only three main parts - its housing, electronic contacts for signal transmission and a sensitive membrane. Depending on the oil pressure, it either closes the electrical circuit or opens it. If the pressure is less than the permissible threshold (0.65 Bar), then the sensor is triggered and the oil light for VAZ 2114 lights up on the panel.

Oil pressure sensor VAZ 2114.

As soon as the light comes on, you should stop driving as quickly as possible and search for possible faults. Operating a vehicle with an inoperative oil supply system can lead to rapid wear of moving parts and even engine failure.

We fix problems ourselves

The oil can icon may not light up for various reasons:

  • wiring problems;
  • malfunction of the sensor itself;
  • the indicator light has burned out;
  • The fluidity of the oil is temporarily impaired due to low temperatures and prolonged storage.

The first three reasons can be considered a signal to action, since they must be eliminated as soon as possible for safe operation of the machine. The fourth reason has only one way out - start the engine and wait for the oil to spread throughout all components and parts.

The first indicator on the left shows malfunctions in the engine lubrication system

Preparing tools for repair

To troubleshoot the oil pressure light, you may need the following tools and devices:

  • screwdriver with a flat thin blade;
  • pressure gauge;
  • new indicator light;
  • wires;
  • sensor.

Operating procedure

First of all, car enthusiasts are advised to start by inspecting the sensor and its connector, and only then move on to solving other issues.

If the sensor has a whole body and the connector is connected correctly, then it is recommended to check other elements of the system

To make it easier to find a fault, it is better to adhere to the following operating scheme:

  • Check the connector that connects to the oil pressure sensor. As a rule, the sensor is located on the engine cylinder block, usually on the rear side. You can find out the exact location of this element in your car's manual. It is recommended to remove the connector, make sure that it is clean and free of dirt, and then connect it back. If this simple procedure does not help, move on to the second point.
  • Measure the oil pressure with a pressure gauge. It should be within the range specified in your vehicle's owner's manual. If this is not the case, change the oil pressure sensor.
  • After this, you can remove the wiring from the sensor and connect it to the engine ground. If the oil can in the passenger compartment does not start to burn, then you will have to check the entire wiring or change the indicator light.
  • It is easier to replace the light bulb on the indicator - it is quite possible that it has simply burned out, and therefore does not light up at those moments when it is necessary. It is enough to remove the protective strip from the instrument panel, unscrew the old lamp and insert a new one.
  • If this does not help, then the last chance to fix the problem is to replace the wires. You can usually visually notice abrasions or breaks. It is recommended to immediately replace the entire wire rather than trying to rewind it with electrical tape.

Why does the alarm sound?

The reasons why the VAZ 2114 oil pressure is on may be:

  1. Damage to the oil pressure sensor.
  2. A break in the wires connecting the pressure sensor to the electronic unit.
  3. Low oil level in the system.
  4. Oil pump failure.
  5. Oil filter clogged.

Of all the above reasons, the last two pose the greatest danger to the moving parts of the vehicle. If the DDM itself breaks down, the cause can be eliminated literally in a matter of minutes. In addition to the above malfunctions, in which the signal in the form of an oil can on the dashboard lights up constantly, there are situations when it lights up periodically, either lighting up or going out.

The reasons for this behavior of the indicator may be:

  • clogged filter mesh on the oil intake of the pump, which leads to improper operation of the latter;
  • oil filter clogged;
  • low oil viscosity due to its wear (it was not replaced for a long time);
  • low oil viscosity due to gasoline entering the crankcase;
  • short circuit of the wires connecting the DDM with the indicator on the dashboard;
  • wear of crankshaft bearings.

Consequences of untimely oil changes Elimination of these reasons will help to completely get rid of the blinking pressure sensor on the panel.

Reasons why the indicator light may come on

The indicator light can light up both while driving and at idle speed. Before making assumptions about the causes of possible malfunctions, you should observe the behavior of the light bulb. If it lights up periodically and only while driving, the problem should be looked for in the sensor wiring. If the lamp lights up when the engine is idling and does not go out, this may be due to:

  • faulty pressure sensor;
  • low oil level;
  • too liquid (not corresponding to the class or expired) oil;
  • oil pump malfunction;
  • oil filter wear;
  • contamination of the oil receiver mesh;
  • wear of the crankshaft liners.

Let's consider each of these situations in more detail.

Sensor Wiring

Flashing of the indicator light while driving may be due to damaged insulation of the sensor wire. The wire, under the influence of vibration, shorts to the ground of the car, which causes the sensor to operate. This problem can be eliminated by thoroughly inspecting the wiring and replacing the damaged section.

One of the reasons for the light to come on may be damage to the pressure sensor wiring.

Sensor

In VAZ 2114/15 cars, the oil pressure sensor often fails. Most often, it is this that causes the indicator lamp to constantly burn. It is impossible to check its serviceability yourself. Usually a new sensor is purchased and installed.

Pressure sensor VAZ 2114/15

Lubricant level and quality

If the indicator light is constantly on, you should check the oil level in the oil pan. This is done with a special probe on a cold engine. If the level is below the minimum allowable, you should add the substances and observe the behavior of the light bulb. If it went out, the problem was precisely the lack of lubrication.

Another reason for the indicator light to come on may be that the oil consistency is too thin. The fact is that the viscosity of the oil decreases with each kilometer traveled. If the car has traveled more than 10 thousand km without changing the oil, the oil pump, designed for a certain lubricant viscosity, will not be able to create the necessary pressure. In such cases, the light comes on only when the engine warms up to operating temperature. This is due to a decrease in oil viscosity due to heat.

Oil viscosity decreases over time, causing system pressure to drop.

This problem can be solved by simply changing the oil. If the indicator continues to light, troubleshooting should be continued.

Pressure measurement

To measure the oil pressure in the system, a liquid pressure gauge is used. The nozzle of its hose is screwed in instead of the pressure sensor. First, measure the pressure at idle speed of a warm engine. A pressure of 1.5 to 2 bar is considered normal. Then the measurements are repeated at high speeds (5000–5500 rpm). In this case it must be at least 4.5 bar.

If the pressure gauge shows values below those specified, you should check the oil pump, since it is the one that creates pressure in the system. It is not recommended to continue operating the vehicle in this case.

The main malfunctions of the oil pump are wear of its elements and “sticking” of the pressure relief valve in the open position. In this case, the easiest way is to replace the pump as a set. You can do this either yourself or at a car service center.

Measuring oil pressure with a liquid pressure gauge

Filter

If the oil pressure is normal, check the oil filter. Here problems can be caused by wear or incorrect installation of the filter element, as well as the use of a filter not provided for by the engine design. The fact is that when the engine is stopped, it is necessary that a certain amount of oil remains in the filter. In all of the above cases, the lubricant will drain into the crankcase, which, in turn, will cause the effect of “oil starvation”.

You can replace the oil filter yourself. In this case, a small amount of fresh oil should be poured into the new filter to avoid “oil starvation”.

When replacing a new filter, be sure to add some fresh oil.

Oil receiver

The oil receiver is a device designed to collect oil from the oil pan and supply it to the pump. To prevent wear products from entering the lubrication system, the oil receiver is equipped with a fine metal mesh. Contamination of this mesh can lead to a drop in oil pressure.

To check the serviceability of the oil receiver, it is necessary to drain the oil from the system and remove the oil pan. Dismantling the oil receiver itself is quite simple. You should remove the three bolts that secure it to the crankcase elements.

If, after inspecting the oil receiver, it turns out that the mesh is clogged, it is necessary to clean it. To do this, soak the entire device in a hot solution of any household cleaning product (Mole, Comet, Sillit Bang, etc.).

If all the procedures performed did not bring the desired result, you should buy and install a new oil receiver.

Over time, the oil receiver mesh becomes clogged and the pressure in the system drops

Earbuds

Oil pressure may also drop if the crankshaft bearings (main bearings, connecting rod bearings) are heavily worn. This is true for cars with high mileage. The problem can only be diagnosed by opening the power unit. In this case, a major engine overhaul is inevitable.

A decrease in oil pressure in the lubrication system occurs due to wear of the crankshaft liners

How to check and replace the pressure sensor

If you notice that the VAZ 2114 oil pressure sensor is on, then first of all you should check the serviceability of the oil pressure sensor itself. In order to do this, you will need a special device based on a pressure gauge that allows you to measure oil pressure directly.

To make the measurement itself, you will need to remove the oil pressure sensor from its socket and install the device in its place. After this, you need to start the car and look at the pressure gauge readings. If everything is normal, then the arrow will show pressure in the range from 0.65 to 0.7 kgf/sq.cm.

If the measurement results are lower, then the problem should be looked for either in the oil filter (it should be checked first) or in the oil pump itself. In rare cases, the indicator light can also be caused by absolute wear of the crankshaft bearings, requiring their complete replacement.

If you don’t have a special oil pressure gauge at hand, but you need to check the serviceability of the sensor, then you can resort to the “field” test method. To do this, unscrew the DDM and start the car starter (there is no need to start the engine). If oil begins to fly out of the open hole, then the pressure in the system is completely normal and you can continue driving.

Having discovered that the reason why the oil pressure lamp is on on the VAZ 2114 lies in the pressure sensor itself, the latter should be replaced. It's very easy to do. To do this, you only need a regular 21 open-end wrench, and the operation itself is performed as follows:

  1. Open the hood and remove the protective cover from the engine.
  2. Find the sensor (it is located on the left side of the engine, next to the timing belt) and remove the cap with the connector from it).
  3. Using a 21 key, unscrew the sensor from its socket.
  4. Screw in a new sensor instead of the broken one.
  5. Connect it to the electronic system by putting a cap with contacts on it.

As you can see, the whole procedure is very simple and will only take a few minutes.

Another important point worth mentioning is the frequent failure of pressure sensors, accompanied by oil leakage through them. This is caused by a malfunction of the excess pressure relief system on the oil pump, as a result of which the total pressure in the system increases greatly and oil leaks through the sensor socket. To eliminate this problem, you will have to replace the oil pump with a new one.

How to fix problems

Prepare for work a set of screwdrivers (straight and curved), keys 8 and 21, special plastic tweezers for removing fuses and a tester. Next, disassembly should be carried out according to the instructions:

  1. Disassembly begins with removing the cover. To do this, you need to unscrew 3 screws. There is a protrusion under it that needs to be removed from the body bracket.
  2. To remove the screen you need to unscrew 5 screws, they are located in the console lining on the right.
  3. Remove the terminal from the battery (usually the negative terminal is recommended) to disconnect the power to the car. Only after this, disconnect the wiring harness block from the cigarette lighter.
  4. Remove the handle from the lever. Disconnect the fastening of the electric fan located on the heating unit.
  5. After this, remove the bolts on the steering block brackets. Remove the light guide, lamp sockets and decorative insert of the instrument panel.
  6. Using a 21 key, remove the hydraulic corrector illumination lamp.
  7. Remove the screws from the bottom and top so that you can remove the dashboard.

Test the light bulbs first. If they fail, they must be replaced with new ones; in most cases, this is enough to restore the panel’s functionality. However, do not exclude other causes, for example, check connections and conductors for the presence of oxide. Carbon deposits often form on lamp sockets, which also leads to a lack of panel illumination.

If only the instrument panel stopped working, but all the lamps showed operability during testing, then the reason is hidden in the fuse block. In this case, check each fuse and replace the ones that are broken. When purchasing components, you must be guided by the marking of the failed fuse. You should not replace it with homemade products or components with higher current strength.

If the fault lies in damage to the board itself, which is extremely rare, then you simply need to replace this element.

There is no place in a modern engine where oil is not used to lubricate rubbing parts. Today, choosing oil is a much more important task than choosing a gas station. Therefore, a lack of oil is a much more fraught consequence than a lack of gasoline. The oil level in the engine crankcase is monitored by an oil level sensor. Its main and only task is to alert the driver about low oil level.

The operating principle of such devices is to measure the level of current resistance. Immersed in liquid, the sensor produces a higher output resistance than a dry sensor. By the way, it should be mentioned that the oil pressure sensor and the oil level sensor are completely different things. The oil level sensor on the VAZ is located next to the oil filter.

Diagnostic features

Before replacing the old device, it must be removed and checked. The easiest way to check is to plug in a known-good device into the network.

Another way is to screw a pressure gauge in place of the sensor. If the tester shows a pressure of 0.65 kgf/cm2 or more, this indicates that the system has normal pressure and the cause is a faulty device.

If you don’t have a pressure gauge at hand, you can check the sensor in the following way:

  • unscrew the regulator;
  • crank the starter without starting the engine;
  • If oil flows from the socket, then the sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Replacing the sensor

In a Priora car, replacing the oil pressure sensor is not very difficult even for novice car enthusiasts who do not have practical experience in plumbing. It is performed if the causes of the defect are determined, if the oil pressure sensor in the power plant lubrication system is on. The procedure for replacing the oil pressure sensor is as follows:

  • Turn off the power plant.
  • Remove the plastic motor cover.
  • We remove the car wiring block from the product.
  • We unscrew the device using a socket wrench and remove it from the technological hole in the body of the cylinder head.
  • When installing an updated product, it is necessary to install a metal sealing ring.
  • We are installing a new device. This completes the installation.

If the oil pressure sensor lights up even with the updated device, it is necessary to test the pressure value in the vehicle’s lubrication complex. For this purpose, instead of the removed device installed in the cylinder head of the engine unit, we screw in an adapter on which the pressure measuring device is installed.

When monitoring the pressure parameter in the lubrication system of the power plant, you should know that the indicator of this physical quantity on the engine at idle speed should be at least 0.5 bar.

How to check the oil level sensor?

  1. We drive into the inspection hole.
  2. We remove the protection.
  3. We find the sensor.
  4. Turn on the ignition.
  5. Disconnect the connection wire to the sensor.
  6. We use a voltmeter to check the voltage between the connecting block and ground. A working sensor should show a voltage of around 12V on the voltmeter.

If there is no voltage, the following malfunctions are possible:

  • poor contact or broken wire in the sensor circuit;
  • The display unit is faulty.

Replacing the oil level sensor

Replacing the oil level sensor is not an extremely labor-intensive process.

  1. First of all, we drive the car onto a viewing hole or overpass.
  2. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the engine ground.
  3. We remove the pallet.
  4. We find the sensor next to the oil filter and disconnect the wire tip from the oil level sensor.
  5. Using a 10mm socket wrench, unscrew the sensor mount, then remove it.
  6. We take a new sensor and install it in the reverse order.
