The Lada Kalina model, popular among domestic motorists, was taken as the basis for the new Lada Granta station wagon. The manufacturer decided to use the most reliable and proven technical solutions, not take risks, and add a minimum of changes. Basically, they relate to the visual part, interior and body. However, upon closer examination, one can understand that the updates were still sufficient to call the 2018 a truly new car.

Body updates

modernized optical elements, more powerful and larger, which is why engineers also had to slightly adjust the configuration of the hood and wings. The side mirrors are now equipped with direction indicators, which makes the car similar to its more expensive “colleagues” X-RAY and Vesta. The rims also look more attractive now.

The rear part is immediately distinguished by the new design of the trunk lid, on which there is a structure resembling a spoiler. Of course, you can’t expect a significant increase in downforce from it, but it adds dynamics and aggression to the car’s image, making it more stylish and modern. Depending on the version, on the trunk lid you can see either the lock cylinder or the trunk opening button.

In general, the car looks good for its price; in this regard, it is able to compete even with cars from higher price groups.

Interior updates

The interior of the car has undergone minimal changes. If we talk about versions with a manual transmission, the manufacturer stated that the car uses a modernized gearbox, the gear ratio of the main pair has been increased from 3.7 to 3.9 (the first hundred kilometers per hour is now reached a little faster), the design has been improved, thereby reducing noise and unwanted vibrations. In practice, all these statements were confirmed; the mechanics really became more pleasant to use.

In addition to the manual transmission, versions are offered with a 4-speed automatic transmission and a robot with two unique operating modes, the first of which is focused on driving in traffic jams, and the second on aggressive sports driving. In terms of the line of transmissions, there is a clear desire to unify the representatives of the Lada family; it is likely that spare parts for Vesta and X-RAY will be suitable for Granta.

Assessing the suspension, we can come to the conclusion that it was based on the Lada Kalina chassis. Springs are installed on an elastic beam at the rear, and McPherson struts are installed at the front. An original design solution is to trim the wheel arches with inserts made of soft material that protect the metal from moisture and small stones.

The younger version is a 1.6-liter power plant with 8 valves. Torque – 140 Nm, power – 87 horses. The device is used in conjunction with a five-speed manual transmission. According to the manufacturer, average fuel consumption is 6.8 liters per hundred (highway - 5.3, city -9.1), top speed is 172 kilometers per hour.
The middle option is a power plant of the same volume, but with 16 valves. The maximum speed has been increased to 176 kilometers, controlled by an automatic transmission from the famous Jatco concern. Fuel consumption indicators: city - 9.9, highway -6.1.
The most productive engine has a power of 106 horses and a maximum speed of 184 kilometers per hour. It can be controlled either by a manual transmission or by a robot. In urban conditions, the engine requires 8.7 liters of fuel per hundred, on the highway – 5.2.
