In most cars, the spare tire is located in a special niche, which is present in the luggage compartment and is covered with a shelf. In this regard, the designers of the domestic high-capacity station wagon Lada Largus indulged in an unconventional method of placing the spare wheel. And many are interested in the question: where is the spare tire? They placed this wheel in a special basket, which they hung from the outside to the bottom in the trunk area. If the new owner of this model is not aware of the location of the spare tire, then it may take him some time to find this object, during which he is guaranteed to be in complete amazement.
How to install the spare tire and remove it from the bracket
If a tire gets punctured on the road, a spare one will always help out. If there is a bracket on the rear door, the process of removing the spare tire is greatly simplified. The wheel is secured to a special holder using four nuts. To remove the spare wheel on Largus, you need to open the gate and unscrew the nuts and remove the wheel.
With a reinforced mounting option, everything is even simpler - just unscrew the holder on the left and lower it to the ground. Now all that remains is to unscrew the nuts and remove the wheel. You don’t even have to lift the spare tire using physical force. It is already on the ground, and it is enough to roll it to the installation site.
Purchasing brackets to secure the spare tire outside the usable space of the car has become a necessity. Installing gas equipment reduces fuel costs, but at the same time deprives the car of regular space for an additional wheel. In addition, many Lada Largus owners require the entire trunk space of the car when transporting a large amount of cargo. The holder can be useful in cars of those who love long trips and outdoor activities. It will allow you to transport two spare tires at once: one in the trunk, the other on the back door.
very often lately the traffic police have begun to pay attention to cars with additional equipment and tuning, so I decided to legalize what I hung on my Largus!
Good afternoon Many have already started registering HBO on their cars and I’m no exception, but in addition I also have a spare wheel holder installed on the rear door and bumper protection, so I decided to register them. I had my doubts, but it turns out there are no problems! To register this Bracket, I first contacted the Automotive Certification Institute, there are of course other offices, this is all optional, I first asked in words if it was possible to obtain permission for a spare wheel bracket and bumper protection, they immediately answered YES, it is possible and I immediately submitted the documents to them cars and copies of certificates downloaded from the Tehnosphere LLC website paid 3000 rubles. the next day I already received a completed preliminary examination report, which states that this bracket can be installed on this car and does not affect road safety. Although this additional equipment is not subject to mandatory certification at the institute, I was warned that traffic cops are different and it is better to get certificates certified by a live seal and signature of the seller, I immediately called the manufacturer Tehnosphere LLC and they sent me certificates by mail on the same day, five days later I received them and am satisfied I went to the Technical Department of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, wrote an application to change the design of the car, where an employee examined the car, checked the license plates, etc. (by the way, all additional extras must be removed since you have not yet been given permission to install them) then in the office of the technical department they looked at my application , certificates, the conclusion of the preliminary examination, they immediately put a stamp and signature on the possibility of installation, and since the conclusion of the examination says that independent installation is possible, I immediately took the application form - declaration of installation of additional equipment and filled it out accordingly from that moment on my car already there must be additional equipment that I indicated in the application! Then I went back to INSAT to get the examination report and paid 4000 rubles. and two days later I received a protocol in my hands where it says that everything was installed safely, etc. and the main change in car parameters is the weight increased by 5 kg and the length by 200 mm. , then the state technical inspection here, of course, everyone wants to pay a ruble as much as they want and they will bring you a diagnostic card home, I personally stopped by on the way and for 390 rubles. passed by myself! Then, again, go to the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate for inspection and submit documents to the office, that is, the conclusion of the preliminary examination, the examination report, an application for making changes to the design of the car, an application-declaration for the installation of additional equipment and a state fee of 800 rubles. (by the way, the other traffic cop didn’t even look at the certificates, but when asked by me, do you need them? He answered that since the bracket is not subject to mandatory certification, no! It’s not necessary.) But there are different types of screws, it’s better to stock up, there won’t be too much! Well, a week later I received a certificate of design change from the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate and, in order not to delay until later, I immediately went to change the registration certificate, that is, to make changes, this is another state fee of 850 rubles. Well, that’s the whole procedure, I slowly completed it in a month and a half, but Taking into account the organization of work in the traffic police, less than a month will not work, since the technical department works two days a week for three hours, this is for the entire Nizhny Novgorod region and you will have to visit it at least 4-5 times!
Installing a spare wheel on the Largus rear door
The spare wheel on the Lada Largus station wagon is located under the car or in the trunk. If you install gas equipment (LPG), the spare tire can be moved to the trunk door. There is a special accessory for this, called a “spare wheel mounting bracket”.
There are several types of spare tire mounts at the rear of the car:
In both cases, the bracket is installed in standard places; there is no need to make additional holes or modifications. In the first case, the bracket is held on by 4 screws (2 - one screw on each door hinge, 2 - on the end of the door).
In the second case, installation will take longer, because... you will need to fix the bracket from below the car:
The main purpose of the accessory is to free up space in the trunk (under the bottom of the car) for installing LPG. Fans of active recreation can refuse HBO in favor of installing an additional spare tire. What type of bracket for carrying the spare tire would you choose?
Let us remind you that we previously laid out the dimensions of the box, which allows you to make a flat floor in the trunk of Largus. There are also instructions for making a raised floor.

Bracket for spare wheel
Lada Largus is a small car, and the spare wheel at the rear makes it look massive. Factories began to produce special baskets that allow the wheel element to be fixed outside rather than inside the car. Mass production appeared due to the high demand for products. The bracket allows you to hold not only the wheel, but even the tire. Bracket specifications:
- length, width – 55 cm each;
- height – 30 cm;
- weight – 5 kg.
The basket will allow you to fix the spare wheel on the surface of the stern door without damaging the body. The bracket does not need to be registered like a trailer. Its cost starts from 4,000 rubles. The price will be higher if the product is equipped with fasteners. It is better to purchase the Lada Largus spare wheel mount for the rear doors separately, since the factory element has a lot of shortcomings: short pins, lack of nuts, weak steel.
If previously the wheel was moved due to the desire to install a gas cylinder in the luggage compartment, now it is the final touch of the upgrade. For this purpose, several options for car brackets are used:
- Rotary type. It is installed on the right door.
- Product screwed to the bottom.
Bracket selection and installation
It is better to purchase the original, but if the driver wants to save money, then you can buy an analogue. The basket is made of metal and has a chrome-plated or painted surface. Chrome is preferable as the paint will peel off over time.
When installing a spare wheel on the Largus rear door, you should take care of reliable fastenings, since they will hold the part and the spare wheel. It is better to purchase bolts with massive nuts and a cross-shaped tip. Such hardware can be found in any automotive store.
Along with the hardware, you should prepare a screwdriver, a ratchet wrench, and take care of an assistant who will support the device while another screws the structure. Algorithm of actions:
- A special sealing gasket is provided with the basket, so the protective part is installed first using bolts.
- The bracket is attached to the top with three screws.
It is important to ensure that the gasket is securely clamped between the body and the basket.
- The hook is fixed in the central hole and handle.
- The levers that will hold the spare tire are being installed.
- The wheel is installed.
The hardware should be tightened using a wrench with a special pad that allows the fasteners to be firmly fixed.
Spare wheel and stowage
For the first time such wheels appeared in a set of cars manufactured by Rambler at the beginning of the 20th century. The idea caught on, and all automakers began installing them on their cars. At the beginning of the century, people often took two additional wheels with them at once.
Spare wheel
Today, all cars are equipped with such products. In many regions, the sale of cars without it is prohibited by law. But the choice of spare tire type remains with the vehicle manufacturer. This can be either a full-size wheel or a removable one. In addition, this role can be played by a unique composition for quickly eliminating a tire puncture.
In a situation where the car has runflat tires, an additional wheel is not required, since this type of tire makes it possible to get to the tire shop even with a punctured tire. The full-size model differs little from standard tires.
Attention!
Since 2014, a procedure has been established that provides for the replacement of spare tires according to the season.
The disadvantage of a full-size product is that its placement, especially in a situation where the car is initially equipped with large-diameter wheels, requires enough space. In addition, the wheel is heavy and difficult to remove from its storage location.
Many car owners do not know where the spare tire is hidden in their car.
That’s why before traveling, it’s important to understand how to get a 35 spare tire or a 52 spare tire
When choosing, it is important to pay attention to:
Location. Usually the wheel is located under the flooring in the luggage compartment of the car. Some spare tires may be located in the basket under the car. The place should be checked regularly, as the thread may rust and removing the spare wheel will be impossible. Types of products. Since the standard size of tires in the starter kit is increasingly larger today, manufacturers prefer a narrow-size spare wheel of the “biscuit” type (repeat wheel). The small-width spare wheel is simply placed in a separate storage location under cover in the luggage compartment of the car. It should be noted that the re-roller does not have the full performance qualities that a standard car wheel has. The rolling wheel allows a maximum speed limit of 80 km/h and requires careful driving. This is explained by the fact that its small width provokes a difference in traction with the other three tires of the car. If the dokatka is on the right, then you need to be careful when turning left and back, especially when moving on a wet road. Even if the spare tire is a “fifth wheel”, it is the same component as any other
Therefore, it is important to care for all tires equally: check the pressure, monitor the condition of the wheel components.
Attention!
R14 spare tire organizers are great for storing useful items. Organizers for the spare tire are sold in car dealerships.
A dokatka is a compact spare tire; it is placed at the scene of an accident when prompt repairs are impossible. A dokatka (another name is a banana spare tire) is called that because it allows you to roll to a car service center. The finishing wheel cannot be used continuously.

A full-size spare tire is the same size as a car wheel. That is, the vehicle is equipped not with four, but with five wheels. Such products require storage space in the car compartment. Manufacturers either sacrifice this space or use a small size that is smaller in size.
Dokatka
The car may not have a spare tire - instead, there will be a do-it-yourself tire repair kit. This is due to the fact that runflat wheels, which are installed on modern cars, can travel on punctured tires up to 50 km/h. This is usually enough to get to the workshop. Spare:
- required for temporary use, not permanently;
- has a smaller standard size;
- has higher pressure than a standard tire.
Therefore, you should periodically check the air in the wheel - the norm is on average 4.2 kg/cm², which should be written on the sticker on the spare wheel of the car.
Important!
On a snow-covered road surface, you cannot place a spare tire on the front axle: if the tire is damaged, it is replaced with the rear one, and a spare tire is placed at the rear.

How to make a gate for a spare tire with your own hands
Wicket option This product can be made with skills, materials, tools and a welding machine. The easiest way is to bend a metal tube using a pipe bender, then weld the hinges and jumper. The wheel is bolted on
It is important to make a spacer:
- Take a square tube 2.5x2.5 cm, make a square out of it according to the dimensions of the gate for the spare wheel.
- Drill 4 holes to match the holes in the bracket.
- Then take a rubber mat for the battery from a VAZ-2106 or AZLK-2141.
- Place the mat on superglue to protect it from scratches. Then use a blade to cut off all excess and screw the gate together with the spacer to the towbar.

Let's sum it up
Despite the unconventional location of the spare wheel in the LADA Largus station wagon, the practicality of the car is not compromised at all. This decision of the manufacturer pursued the goal of achieving maximum versatility for transporting various types of cargo. The solid hard floor of the luggage compartment makes this possible.
The fastening itself is not complicated and can be dismantled without much effort. The main thing is to provide convenient access to perform actions.
The manufacturer also took care of those who like to install gas equipment, providing for the possibility of installing the bracket we reviewed. This also comes with convenience and does not restrict trunk capacity, for which they buy the Russian LADA Largus station wagon.
Advantages and disadvantages
Not all Largus are equipped with baskets, since additional fastening has advantages and disadvantages:

Some manufacturers provide fasteners, a cover for the spare tire, or a hard plastic cap with a company logo along with the product, but drivers assure that it is more profitable to buy each element separately.
What's the secret?
Of course, such brilliant results are impossible without choosing reliable Italian equipment from Landi Renzo.
We have been working with the manufacturer Landi Renzo for 20 years. And all these years we have only become more convinced of our choice and the reliability of this brand.
So for our Lada Largus we chose the 4th generation Landi Renzo EVO kit.
Very little effort and time is spent on installation, and then, like in a fairy tale: I sat down and drove off. No additional work, settings, rechecks - only economical, quiet and efficient operation of the engine on gas.
The Landi Renzo EVO kit is easy to install, has a self-calibration function, and is suitable for our climate and gas: propane-butane mixture, which is sold at Belarusian gas stations.
- After installing Landi Renzo EVO on a car, the environmental friendliness of the exhaust increases by one class. In our example, the Lada Largus complied with Euro-5 eco-standards, but now it complies with Euro-6.
- The reducer is designed for use in propane-butane systems, contains a solenoid shut-off valve for greater safety and is suitable for 4-cylinder engines up to 110 kW.
- Italian gas injectors are considered the best among competitors; they are resistant to various fuel contaminants and have a long service life.
- The petrol/gas switch, which is installed in the passenger compartment, will not only fit well into any car interior, but will also show the level of remaining gas in the cylinder, and when the fuel level is low, it will sound a reminder to the driver.
Another secret of our result in converting Lada Largus to gas is the firmware, due to which the electronic engine control unit supplies fuel to the cylinders so that the engine does not actually lose power. As was the case in our case.
Do you want the same?
Our experience in converting the Lada Largus to gas, the ECU firmware used and high-quality Italian equipment - all this suggests that any car produced by AvtoVAZ with a 1.6 petrol engine can be converted to gas without any actual loss of power. After all, a 1.6% loss of torque will not in any way affect the speed gain and driving comfort.
Do you want to reduce fuel costs and avoid detonation and coking of engine cylinders, and switch to environmentally friendly and inexpensive fuel - gas?
Then welcome to the installation of gas equipment in.
The first 50 owners of cars manufactured by AvtoVAZ receive a 2-year warranty on the installed gas equipment without mileage restrictions.

UAZ Patriot iPatr › Logbook › Trunk - 13. Placement of the spare tire in Patras 2014.
So I realized my dream from a year ago - I secured a full-size spare tire in the trunk. Until a little over six months it drove simply horizontally, without much strain in winter. But in the spring season, I got pretty tired of rolling it back and forth around the car: in one of the photos you can see it near the rear wheel. The dream was to fix the wheel vertically to the side, there are examples on the drive: on the left side, on the floor on the starboard side. But I got my main inspiration from luchsergey
on the patrolmen forum. Unfortunately, now the photos are no longer available there, but I contacted Sergei and he kindly sent them to me by email so that I could see everything in detail. I’ll take the risk of posting them here, but if that’s not possible, I’ll remove them.

Constant fluctuations in gasoline prices make us think about an alternative power source for the car. A good option would be to switch to gas, because using gas in a car is much more economically profitable than using gasoline. In addition, the infrastructure of gas filling stations today is well developed, so there should be no problems with filling your car with gas. Another advantage of gas equipment is the ease of installation, which does not change the design of the vehicle.
Thus, the result is a vehicle capable of running on both gasoline and gas. And if you don’t like moving around with the cylinder, you can always turn it off or dismantle it yourself.
A gas cylinder is the main element of gas equipment.
There are two main types of gas cylinders:
Which of these cylinders is better? In essence, their purpose and operating principle are the same. Therefore, when choosing a cylinder for a car, you should focus on the features of using the car and your needs: how often you use the trunk, how loaded it is, whether it is possible to fold down the seats and increase the space in the luggage compartment.
Today, toroidal cylinders are the most common in passenger cars due to their compact size and ease of use.

How to remove the spare tire on a Largus video
On the Lada Largus, the manufacturer has allocated space in the trunk for a spare wheel. Today, many drivers, in order to save money, prefer to install LPG (gas equipment). For this reason, they face a problem: where to put the additional wheel, because a gas cylinder is installed in its place.
Some people design special devices for attaching the spare wheel to Largus with their own hands, but they turn out to be too bulky and look unaesthetic. They can also raise questions from traffic police officers, since license plates or lights are often covered with such mounts. The best solution to the problem would be to install a spare wheel on the Largus rear door.
Advantages and disadvantages of fastenings
The spare wheel bracket located on the rear door has a number of advantages:
- does not spoil the appearance of the car;
- reliable;
- easy to operate and install;
- preserves the ability to use the useful volume of the trunk to the maximum.
The spare wheel mounted on the rear door protects the bumper from possible damage.
Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting the possible sagging of the hinges with all the ensuing consequences - loose closing of the door, distortions, creaks. Car owners also note that the door does not open completely, which makes accessing part of the trunk difficult.
Bracket selection and installation
Brackets for fixing a spare wheel on Largus appeared on the car accessories market not so long ago. There are two types of such fastenings:
- spare tire holder on the rear door: fixed and rotating versions available;
- reinforced spare wheel mount - fixed in the trunk opening and to the bottom of the car, replacing the tow bar.
To install the fastener, you do not need to drill new holes for bolted connections; existing standard places are used. The spare wheel on the back door can become a decoration if you purchase an additional cover. It can be ordered in any color and with any inscription.
How to install wipers on a UAZ loaf
If there is a conventional bracket, the fastening gate is opened first, then the tailgate. The reinforced lock has its own characteristics: first the left holder is unscrewed, after which the wheel tilts to the right.
Installing the bracket takes no more than 20 minutes:
- unscrew the upper nuts of the lower and upper hinge of the rear door on the right;
- the bracket is placed on the vacant seats;
- screw the hinge nuts and two fastening bolts into the standard places near the door lock.
The installation is complete, all that remains is to put on the protective cap or cover, if any. Installation of a reinforced holder will take more time, since the bracket is fixed to the bottom of the car. This means that a lift or inspection hole will be needed.
It will allow you to transport two spare tires at once: one in the trunk, the other on the back door.
Catalog numbers of these parts can be found here
Place the vehicle on a two-post lift, apply the parking brake and turn off the ignition.
How is the coefficient of internal friction measured?
- 1 — bolt for fixing the spare wheel basket lock hook
- Open the rear loading doors and unscrew the bolt securing the hook 1, Figure 2-1, of the spare wheel basket lock (replacement head 17, extension and knob) a few turns.
- Raise the car to a height convenient for doing the work.
1 — hook for fastening the spare wheel basket lock; 2 — spare wheel basket handle; 3 — spare wheel basket;
4 - spare wheel
Removing and installing the spare tire on the Largus door
On the Lada Largus, the spare wheel bracket on the trunk door looks organic, which cannot be said about the bottom. The central hook is the main element that takes the weight of the spare tire. For dismantling you will need screwdrivers, a wrench and an assistant. The wheel is fixed according to the instructions:
- Fastenings become loose.
- The handle, which is located next to the hook, is removed. The handle is the main protection for the wheelbase from falling out of the basket.
- The wheel tilts a little, it is important to hold it with your hands while the lower bolts are unscrewed. After this, the spare tire is easily removed.
To return the spare tire to its place, you need to reattach the handle and tighten the hook screws well.
Where to put the spare tire if there is gas equipment?
- The first option is the classic one, we place the spare tire on top of the shelf, which covers the regular place in which the toroidal cylinder is located after installing the LPG. This method of arrangement requires neither money nor imagination, but at the same time it has a number of disadvantages. Firstly, it does not look aesthetically pleasing, secondly, just a wheel lying in the trunk takes up free space, and thirdly, during sharp maneuvers the wheel will “fly” throughout the trunk.
- The second option is to attach the spare tire to the back of the sofa or to another suitable place using rubber bands. If the height allows, the spare tire can be attached, for example, to the back of the rear sofa; for convenience and practicality, you can first put a protective cover on the spare tire. If you can’t attach the spare tire to the backrest, you can try to attach it to the left or right side of the trunk; this option is also often used among those who have installed LPG in their car.
- The third way to “attach” a spare tire is to hide it under the body, that is, place it outside in the rear of the car. This arrangement is often found in minivans, as well as minibuses, in which the trunk is intended for transporting goods. In principle, as an option, you can consider placing it outside the cylinder itself, while the spare tire remains in its “rightful” place. This option is very convenient from the point of view of saving space in the trunk; after installing gas equipment, essentially nothing changes in the trunk, the only thing is that you will have to come up with something and invent something, I mean a mounting bracket in order to secure the spare tire under body.
- Buy a spare tire instead of a spare tire. For those who are not in the know, let me explain that a dokatka is a lighter and thinner version of a spare wheel, which, in fact, is not a full-fledged wheel, but only a “substitute” on which you can get home or get to the nearest service station, where They will patch up the hole in your wheel. Dokatka and gas equipment are practically inseparable, and are very common among those who have installed gas equipment. The wheel is attached according to the same principle as a regular wheel, the only difference is that the wheel takes up much less space in the trunk.
- Repair kit, tire sealant, pump. Some people practice using special repair kits, with which the wheel can be repaired on the spot, provided that the puncture is minor. The sealant fills the puncture and after a few minutes the tire can be inflated and continued driving. The disadvantage of this method is that in the event of a serious puncture or impact, after which the edge of the disk is deformed, neither the sealant nor the repair kit, and certainly not the pump, will save you.
- Raised floor. If none of the above options suits you, you might be interested in a raised floor. What is this? The concept of a raised floor means the installation of a second tier in the trunk, in which a spare tire will be installed, after which the “original” trunk shelf is placed on top. This option will certainly steal free space, but if you need to transport something large, you will have a flat floor on which you can transport a lot of things. In addition, this option is very practical and looks quite nice, you can verify this simply by looking at the photo. You can make a raised floor yourself; all you need is glue and several sheets of dense foam.
- Mounting the spare wheel on the 5th door. If you have an SUV or at least a minivan, you can consider mounting the 5th wheel on the tailgate as an option. The solution may be quite radical, but with the right approach, the appearance of the car after such modification will not suffer, but on the contrary will become more attractive. As you know, this option has long been successfully used by many manufacturers of SUVs and crossovers.
Well, I think that's enough? If you know of other alternative ways to attach the spare tire and solve this problem, do not hesitate to share them with us, we will be very grateful. That’s all I have, I hope now the question of where to put the spare tire after installing the HBO will be solved. All the best to you and see you again at GBOshnik. Bye!
