The presentation of AvtoVAZ has just ended - the company has been tormenting the press for a long time with stories and colorful commercials about premieres that are already more or less known to the viewer. We won’t hide it, I really really wanted to look at the car, since the classic Niva is in all respects an epoch-making car, which to date has remained the only direct bridge to the automaker’s past.

At first glance, the public was presented with something muscular and clearly influenced by the ubiquitous X-Face concept, which is rapidly spreading throughout the appearance of all Lada models. Also memorable are the large X-shaped stampings on the sides, huge rims and an abundance of LED optics. They diligently tried to make the car look like a three-door, but with five functioning doors.

Strictly speaking, the only obvious reminders of the hereditary connection with the Lada 4×4 are the “eyebrows” of the side lights, which extend over the edge of the hood above the main headlights, as well as the holes in the rear roof pillars. Without these parts in the car, you may not recognize the successor to the classic Niva.

The technology and prospects for release are still behind the scenes. But after the presentation, Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, came to the podium and said that a couple of years ago “Mr. Steve” (that’s what he called the designer) showed him the Xray design and now these cars are driving along Russian roads. The Minister is confident that the same will happen with 4x4 Vision.

A team of designers led by the famous stylist Steve Mattin, who has been working at AvtoVAZ for many years, worked on the external details of the new Lada. It has often been heard that the domestic auto industry is somewhat inferior in design, but not this time, the designers worked hard and before us is truly a real miracle, which indicates a brilliant future for the domestic automotive industry.

Many, when examining the appearance of the new Lada 4x4 Vision 2018 model, will note some similarities with the well-known and famous Niva. The front part is represented by a massive radiator grille, interestingly shaped headlights and large air intakes. The car has a powerful bumper with built-in protection at the bottom.

From the side, the SUV looks very stylish; there are original stampings on the front and rear. The massive wheel arches for 21-inch wheels also stand out, and the windows have a straight line of sills. It is worth noting that the combination of parts fits perfectly and creates a collected look. Manufacturers have come up with a new feature - the presence of two holes on the side wings, one of which is used for fuel, and the second is a 220-volt outlet for charging electrical appliances.

On the rear side, the car has a unique style; there are side lights with LED filling, which have a cross shape. The stern bumper is decorated with branded finishes of the manufacturer.

Note that today the company is presenting a conceptual version of the model, which clearly evokes only pleasant sensations; apparently, the production model will hit you in the heart, we just have to wait a little.

40 years after the creation of our legend, the LADA 4×4, we took the liberty and challenged ourselves with a new challenge. The LADA 4×4 VISION concept car was based on the reincarnation of the philosophy of our legendary off-road tool. We adapted it to the modern needs of our customers, taking aesthetics, comfort and technology to new heights, creating the perfect machine.

The concept car immediately attracts attention thanks to its combination of athletic proportions, charismatic character and impressive design. On the LADA 4x4 VISION, the design team was able to bring “X-graphics”, which is an integral part of the Brand’s DNA, to a new level and translate the future of LADA models into the language of design.

The vertical front part of the model is emphasized by a three-dimensional black high-gloss X-shaped radiator grille. Its expressive appearance contrasts with matte inserts, also made in the form of IX graphics. Two shiny aluminum boomerangs optically highlight the Brand's DNA. Slim, high-tech LED headlights contribute to the IKS design and visually echo the radiator grille. LED turn indicators are harmoniously integrated into the embossed hood, recalling the common ancestry with the legendary LADA 4×4. The intricate lighting ensemble is complemented by fog lights located at the bottom of the front bumper. The wide metal bumper guard unmistakably shows the true potential of this car.

Elements of X-graphics were transferred to the side parts of the body of the LADA 4x4 VISION, where they acquire a special three-dimensional shape, turning the car into a living creature, demonstrating powerful muscle play to others. The aluminum trim between the front wheel arch and the door bears the tricolor of the Russian flag, the LADA Design logo and the embossed silhouette of a LADA 4×4.

Once again, drawing inspiration from the image of a legendary car, the long front doors of the LADA 4x4 VISION mirror the X-shaped shapes embodied in the rear of the car. An optical mirage leads to the perception of a three-door body. Visually camouflaged rear doors provide passengers with ample space to enter the vehicle and open in the direction opposite to traffic. The 4x4 body lacks a central pillar and carries elements of a coupe.

Matte trims at the bottom of the SUV highlight the impressive wheel arches; together with the door sills and moldings, they complement the brutal appearance of the concept car and work in contrast with the matte bronze body color. A specially created car paint color enhances the 3D effects of the play of light and shadow on the relief body of the LADA 4x4 VISION.

21-inch wheels give the concept car sporty proportions and provide significant ground clearance. Original 5-spoke two-color wheels support the brutal appearance of the LADA 4x4 VISION.

The large panoramic glass on the roof of the car allows additional access to sunlight, creating a fusion between passengers and the outside world.

The design of the rear part of the LADA 4x4 VISION is distinguished by the same powerful relief shapes. The rear bumper and metal protective trim, horizontally located LED lights continue the X-graphics theme. The upper and lower sections of the lights are designed for parking and brake lights, while the turn signals are hidden in a recess. The rear skid plate is adjacent to two trapezoidal tow hooks.

LADA 4x4 VISION is created on a special platform 4.2 m long. Outstanding ground clearance, short overhangs, extreme approach angles and large wheels enhance the geometry of a true SUV. Featuring a wide range of high and low ratio transmissions and a combination of advanced off-road technologies and assistance systems, the concept car has an unbeatable range of off-road capabilities in its segment.

Technical characteristics of Lada 4x4 Vision

Manufacturers of the new product do not fully disclose the technical characteristics. The SUV is based on a platform from Renault. Most likely, manufacturers have something to surprise car enthusiasts, so there is not much time left to wait; soon all the secrets will be revealed. The new product simply must retain all the cross-country qualities of the famous Niva; the manufacturers plan to create a new transmission with a permanent all-wheel drive mode. As always, the issue comes down to cost, since creating a new transmission is an expensive process, most likely the new Lada will inherit the drive from the Duster. But time will tell what awaits us in reality.

According to preliminary information, mass production of the new SUV is expected in 2022 under the name Lada Niva. Nothing is known about the price of the model yet, but fans of the legendary Niva will definitely rejoice at the revival of the Niva. For Russians, the Niva is a man's car; the model presented in the review retained its masculinity and assertiveness, and also added modernity and charisma.

AvtoVAZ presented the concept of the future Niva, called Lada Vision 4x4. The release of the serial version, according to media reports, is scheduled only for 2022, and during all this time a lot can change. But even now, in this form, the new Niva, with its appearance, attracts close attention.

The Lada 4x4 Vision exhibition car has a rather brutal and charismatic appearance. In the body dimensions of the presented new product, one can trace the connection with the classic Niva, which was created back in the 70s of the last century. The new Niva will be equipped with five doors, and the handles located on the rear doors will be disguised for the sake of the classic “three-door effect”. This solution is planned to be transferred to the production model.

The main accent of the new LADA style – the clearly defined “X-graphics” – did not bypass this car either. The SUV received an “X-shaped” design of the side parts of the body, radiator grille, and rear lights of the car. The car acquired long front doors, a wide radiator grille with chrome elements that look like boomerangs, an original panoramic roof, huge 21-inch wheels and modern LED optics.

The interior of the car is presented in a high-tech design. The design is designed in a rather brutal style with a massive front panel, which is complemented by large “X-shaped” ventilation deflectors, as well as a powerful central console. They are simply incredibly convenient to use. I would also like to note the presence of a climate system with the addition of an original control unit, a multifunction steering wheel in a sporty style, comfortable seats with lateral support, high-quality finishing materials in gray and orange tones.

In light of the concept car presented for public viewing and the planned developments, the price of an SUV will be within the cost of the 2nd generation Renault Duster (800 thousand - 1 million rubles). Considering the double price increase compared to the classic Niva, the SUV will have to say goodbye to the image of a cheap all-terrain vehicle.

Russian automaker AvtoVAZ has distributed renderings and videos about the new generation of the Lada Niva SUV. The premiere of the new product is scheduled for 2024.

In September 2022, in an interview with the French magazine Challenges, AvtoVAZ President Nicolas More said that the new Lada Niva will be presented at the end of 2024, and its long-wheelbase modification, the Grand Niva, in 2025 or 2026.

Specifications

The car will be equipped with 1.2 and 1.3 liter petrol engines. The first is a naturally aspirated VAZ, from the Lada Vesta, the second is a turbocharged one, from the Renault arsenal. The 1.2-liter will work in conjunction with a Renault 6-speed manual transmission or a Jatco CVT; the 1.3-liter will only be offered in conjunction with a CVT.

All-wheel drive will be connected using an electromagnetic clutch or a gearbox with two onboard clutch packs (the second option is for the off-road version). It is also planned to have a reduction gear for off-road.

Nicolas More announced the estimated prices for SUVs. In Europe, where the new Niva 2024 will be sold, its cost will range from 12,000 to 16,000 euros (about 1–1.4 million rubles). Prices for the long-wheelbase version of the Grand Niva will start from 20,000 euros (about 1.7 million rubles).

First details of the new generation

The developers began sharing details of the car’s appearance and contents last year. The new generation Niva 2022 was created on the basis of the Renault Duster, a crossover popular on the world market. That is, the Lada will receive an upgraded suspension, an updated steering mechanism and a set of modern electronics for increased comfort.

Regarding the transmission, the issue has not yet been finally resolved. To maintain optimal cross-country ability of the Niva 2022, the creators planned to equip the vehicle with a two-axle drive and a range control.

But equipping and developing the transmission will not be cheap, which will entail a significant increase in the cost of the car for consumers. Therefore, it is more likely that the new 2020 Lada 4×4 will receive a drive from Duster with a rear axle connection and a shortened front gear instead of being equipped with a reduction gear.

Now the Niva trademark belongs to the General Motors-AvtoVAZ joint venture, and the manufacturer is not ready to completely exclude Niva from the lineup of production cars offered on the Russian market.

But by 2020-2021, when the modernized Niva (Lada 4×4 Vision) will be mass-produced, the situation will change radically. And if GM does not begin mass production of the model, the plant in Tolyatti will be forced to cease to exist.

In this case, if the all-wheel drive car receives recognition among buyers, it will be released on the market as the Lada 4x4 Niva 2020.

Review

The modified Russian SUV is a mix of the classic Niva and (VAZ 2121) and modern modifications. The updated body is “dressed” in a mixture of retro style and hi-tech.

Exterior

On the side and front, the new Niva 4×4 2022 has decorative elements in the form of the letter “X”. On the body, the wheel arches and doors are framed with relief recesses. The handles are made unusually - to open the door, you need to press on the front part.

Many modern cars are equipped with such parts. One clarification: there are handles only on the front doors, they are absent on the rear ones. There is an assumption that the rear door will open like on the Toyota FJ Cruiser, i.e. in the opposite direction, against the movement.

Alloy wheels with a diameter of 21 inches look interesting: the spokes are assembled in twos, and there is an orange edging in the center. At the bottom, on the side, you can see the air ducts, designed in that X-shaped style. Developer Steve Mattin introduced his own into the new Niva 4x4 Vision 2022.

The radiator grille is “double”, divided in the center by an insert with markings. On the top there is the brand logo. The gratings are braided with large diamond-shaped holes.

There are air intakes on the sides. The lines are emphasized by chrome C-elements. The LED optics are also made in the form of an “X”, embellished with LED running lights. The engine is protected from damage by lower metal protection and a plastic insert. The long hood with embossed lines and direction indicators are reminiscent of the previous Niva 4×4 2022.

The line of the side windows has a bend, and a “visor” hangs over the rear window. These elements give a feeling of movement and flight. The windshield has remained almost unchanged.

The rear, if we exclude the “X” elements, resembles the BMW E70 - many small parts, a modernized trunk lid, a large rear bumper, and a slight slope of the glass. On the sides, the designers introduced C-shaped chrome inserts and gave the same shape to the fog lights. The diffuser and towing hooks are visible below. By the way, the trunk is opened using a remote control or a button in the cabin.

A special feature of the Lada 4x4 2022 is the panoramic roof of an interesting shape. Narrowed at the front, widened at the bottom, with two “legs” on the sides. The mirror insert is framed with a black border, and there are stiffening ribs along the sides.

The color range will most likely range from graphite black to pure white. A model with a poisonous golden color was presented at the stand.

Interior

The central console of the Niva 4x4 2022 includes a touch control panel for heating and emergency parking, and at the bottom there is a climate control control panel. The temperature selectors have 2 screens built into them. It is noteworthy that the display is color, so it is possible that the panel will be digital.

The steering wheel is made in a sporty style; it is slightly flattened at the top and bottom. Around the inside, a stylish detail has been added - a silver plastic insert. The steering wheel can be adjusted in height and depth, and it also has control buttons.

In the central tunnel of the new Lada 4x4 2022 there is a transmission lever - and here is the drive control handle. The driver can only use the travel mode selector. There are 2 cup holders added below, but they are covered by the center armrest.

The interior design of the Niva 4x4 2022 is done in gray, black and orange tones. The seats are designed in the same sporty style, the headrests are shaped vaguely like a dog bone, and the brand engraving is visible on the mount.

The second row is designed for two passengers. Separate chairs. Interior upholstery materials - fabric, perforated leather and their combination - this is exactly the concept the developers are talking about. Along the perimeter of the cabin there are many decorative elements that emphasize the masculine character of the SUV and echo the exterior design.

The developers did not provide detailed information about the technical basis of the Niva 4×4 2022 Vision.

It is known that the basis of the concept is the platform from the Renault Duster 2019 model year (from the second generation crossover). The new model will receive all-wheel drive with a rear axle clutch and a shortened first gear.

The transmission will be automatic. It is assumed that the engine will be gasoline, 2 liters in volume.

Located behind the steering wheel, the main instrument cluster is X-shaped, with information conveyed using easy-to-read graphics. A central screen with a set of online and off-line services helps everyone on board successfully overcome any city quests. Atmospheric interior lighting is not only functional, it creates its own amazing inner world in the cabin.

The design of the doors is divided into four sections: the central one is horizontally oriented and faces the dashboard, it houses music speakers, and the rear section, in turn, has “floating” folds of armrests. The overall color mood in the cabin is maintained by a combination of orange instrument panel lighting and atmospheric lighting of the same shade.

All seats have the same original design with a vibrant play of textures and materials. Textiles with a 3D effect, eco-leather and multi-layer mesh textiles are complemented by illuminated decorative patterns.

On the right, opposite side of the fuel tank, there is a 220V socket designed for charging any electrical devices when the car is running and the doors are closed and locked with a central lock. This feature further expands the capabilities of the LADA 4x4 VISION, making it adaptable to any adventure.

LADA 4x4 VISION was able to balance the amazing character of LADA 4x4 and the new genetic identity of the Brand's cars, skillfully combining them with a powerful, modern, sculpturally sculpted design of the car and skillfully created high-tech interior space.

The date for the start of mass production and the cost of the Niva 2022 have not yet been announced. If the developers are able to fully implement design and technical solutions regarding the gearbox, then the modernized Lada 4x4 will be more expensive than the latest generation Duster. But if the crossover competes with Renault, this will not provoke significant dumping.

The concept was called Lada 4×4 Vision, and Steve Mattin worked on its design - it turned out very cool! Just look at this Niva - it looks amazing, and I really want it to be put into production as soon as possible.

The SUV is made in the company's corporate style using deep X-shaped stampings on the sidewalls and the same motifs in the front part. The prototype received a massive radiator grille with an original design, diode head optics with turn signals placed on the hood, and the hood itself stands out with its developed relief.

The Lada 4×4 Vision Concept rides on large 21-inch wheels with a fashionable design, there is a silver insert on the side sills, and the roof has a panoramic sunroof, wide roof rails and an integrated spoiler. The stern is greeted with a brutal bumper and original X-shaped lights - this is the first time VAZ has used this solution.

At first glance, the car looks like a classic three-door, but in fact it has additional doors that open in the opposite direction (like on the Mazda RX-8), providing more convenient access to the second row of seats. There is no central rack provided.

Inside, the Lada 4x4 Vision greets you with a modern interior with a stylish steering wheel, a large electronic instrument panel and a large color display on the center console, framed by vertical deflectors of the ventilation system.

The central tunnel houses the automatic transmission selector and the circle for selecting driving modes. The seats look sporty - with developed lateral support, headrests integrated into the backrests and multi-textured upholstery using various materials and shades.

So far, the Lada 4×4 Vision is only a mock-up, so there is no technical content here. It is expected that the production version of the future Niva will be built on the modernized B0 platform of the Renault-Nissan alliance (possibly on the one used on the new Renault Arcana).

Under the hood, a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with a power of 122 hp is expected, the drive will, of course, be all-wheel drive - with a rear axle coupling and a very short first gear instead of a separate low gear. The company has not announced the exact timing of the appearance of the commercial version of the model, but it is unlikely to happen before 2022 or even 2021.

There is no information about the price of the upcoming Niva yet; one can only assume that the cost of the SUV will be comparable to the Renault Duster 2, which is not yet sold here. Thus, the car will become approximately twice as expensive as the current Lada 4x4, so it is possible that the “old man” will continue to be produced for some time.

Lada 4×4 Vision or new Niva 2018 – future SUV from VAZ

Lada 4x4 is a unique car and one of the most affordable SUVs on the world market. However, it is no secret that it is significantly outdated and can no longer fully compete with the current “rogues” in terms of comfort and equipment, as well as safety. AvtoVAZ understands this very well and is soon preparing to present a worthy successor to the model, and its harbinger was an interesting prototype shown at MIAS.

In more detail, we are talking about Lada with the Vision 4x4 prefix. The official premiere of the car took place in August this year at the Moscow Automobile Exhibition. The new product aroused great interest among the public and captivated them with its design.

The exterior design of the model is based on the X-concept. The latter is manifested in the expressive sidewalls of the body and aluminum trim on the front bumper. It should be emphasized that the all-terrain vehicle managed to maintain a familiar silhouette and its profile has classic proportions that hint at brutality.

The narrowed lighting optics consists of LED elements and, together with a low roof, a large-mesh radiator grille, wide wheel arches and large wheels, gives the Russian show car an aggressive look. As for the roof rails, pseudo-metallic door sills and bumpers, they hint at utilitarianism.

The main feature of the interior of the new Niva is the digital instrument panel - a lot of data is divided into different sections. The massive center console houses a multimedia screen and an air conditioning unit with two rotating washers. The steering wheel is flattened at the bottom in a sporty manner.

The list of prototype equipment includes:

• Adjustment of the steering column for reach.

The pricing policy of the new product is currently not disclosed. However, experts suggest that the minimum price of the Lada Vision 4×4 will start at 800 thousand rubles.

New concept LADA 4×4 Vision: if only it was conveyed...

And they can, if they want! The new LADA 4×4 was presented at the Moscow International Motor Show. It’s a pity that with the Vision prefix it’s a concept “on the theme” of the legendary Soviet rogue of fields and swamps. But too many fans of the brand sighed: “if only they brought it to the assembly line in the same form.”

The conceptual LADA 4×4 Vision really turned out “just right”: at the same time maintaining the familiar chopped shapes, but also introducing modern design solutions into its appearance: on the nose and sides, complex LED optics and the missing central pillar: the doors (of which there are four on the sides) are here swing. And like the cherry on the cake - huge 21-inch wheels in large wheel arches.

Like the Renault Arcana conceptual cross-coupe, LADA 4×4 Vision is in no hurry to share boring numbers and exact data. And like Renault, it demonstrates a whole bunch of promises:

• outstanding ground clearance
• impressively short overhangs
• extreme approach and departure angles.

The basis is also unclear: they promise some “special platform with an overall length of 4.2 meters” (isn’t it the highly modernized B0 that Renault Arcana also promised?) and “bright dynamics” without specifying a possible power unit.
An interesting technological development of the concept is two hatches on both sides of the rear wings. In order not to confuse readers with thoughts about a pair of gas tanks, no: only one is “responsible” for refueling the car itself, and the second is the external output of a standard 220-volt outlet, to which you can “light” any electrical device. According to the creators, it can be used with the engine running and the car locked - just in case.

The concept's interior assumes a four-seater layout with two independent seats in the back (in the sketch below, even with pronounced lateral support). The chosen X-style continues in the interior design: an originally designed digital instrument panel, a touch display for the multimedia system and the necessary minimalism of the climate system controls. Tellingly, the concept has only one lever - from the automatic transmission. Below there is a large selector washer for the type of drive and the current driving mode. How much this will appeal to lovers of “everything mechanical” - time will tell. Of course, if we assume that the new Lada 4x4 may actually turn out to be the same as the concept.

And at the presentation they didn’t mention another very important thing: the timing. Noting that the LADA 4×4 Vision is only “a vision of what a new legendary SUV could become.” So we can only hope for the words of the past president of AvtoVAZ, Nicolas Mora, who said in May of this year that we should wait at least 3-4 years before the presentation of the new production Lada 4×4.
