Granta and Nexia have been leaders in the budget sedan market for many years. These cars have always attracted the attention of many car owners due to their low cost of purchase and maintenance, simplicity of design and unpretentiousness. But what is better – Ravon P3 (a new name for the good old Daewoo Nexia) or Lada Granta?

Not long ago, a Russian car was restyled, receiving a more interesting appearance, as well as improving its technical equipment. At the same time, it still remained one of the cheapest on the domestic market. And the Uzbek sedan, which, having been slightly updated, began to be produced under a different brand, returned to our country again after a short absence. But will it attract the attention of Russian buyers?
Comparison of technical characteristics
To understand the main differences between cars, it is worth comparing the Ravon R3 or the Lada Granta. The dimensions of the sedans are quite similar and have only minor differences. The length/width/height of the Ravon R3 is 4330/1690/1505 mm, and the same parameters for the Lada Granta are 4268/1700/1500 mm. Thus, the sedan from Uzbekistan is slightly longer than the Russian one. But the domestic car surpasses it in width and height. True, this difference is almost invisible to the eye and imperceptible when driving. The ground clearance of the cars is the same and is 160 mm. This is quite enough to overcome minor bumps. But such cars are not intended for off-road driving.
For their class, the cars have all the necessary set of functions responsible for safety and comfort. Of course, it is impossible to find the most complex and advanced systems here, but what is available is quite enough. Even the most inexpensive sedans are equipped quite well. At the same time, all equipment is perfectly configured and works at the proper level.
Internal equipment
When you get into the car, you feel a certain “Uzbek flavor”. First of all, this is felt in the peculiarities of the internal filling. The manufacturer has equipped the car with many interesting options. You can't call it empty. The list of standard equipment includes:
- ABS;
- driver's airbag;
- stabilization system (ESC) and others.
It may seem surprising, but with such rich equipment as for a budget brand, the car does not have air conditioning. However, the second trim level (Optimum) is already equipped with air conditioning, as well as many other additional functions. True, it costs a little more. What is missing in the initial configuration is lateral support in the seats.
Engines and transmission
In 2022, the Ravon R3 will be sold on the Russian market with only one type of gasoline engine. It has a volume of 1.5 liters and a power of 107 horsepower. Lada Granta, unlike its rival, can offer customers a noticeably larger selection of engines that also run on gasoline:
- 1.6 liters of volume with a power of 87 horsepower;
- volume 1.6 liters and power 98 “horses”;
- with a volume of 1.6 liters and a power of 106 hp.
The power units of sedans are reliable and, with proper maintenance, can operate for a very long time without problems. They are distinguished by very low fuel consumption for such cars and relative unpretentiousness to its quality.
Both cars can be purchased with either a manual or automatic transmission. But the Russian car also has versions with a robot. In the Uzbek sedan, these units operate quite stably and without complaints. And many owners of domestic cars previously complained about frequent breakdowns of the robotic transmission. According to the manufacturer, this problem has now been resolved. But whether this is so is still unknown. But they started installing automatic weapons on the Grant only recently. Therefore, it is too early to talk about its reliability.

The good build quality of the Lada Granta still leaves room for improvement of the car. This fact also characterizes young Nexias. Significant differences between the models in this sense are difficult to detect. It can be noted that over time, Lada is undergoing changes for the better.

In initial versions, cars are sold on stamped wheels. Casting is required only in expensive trim levels.
At the rear of the car from Central Asia, fairly large triangular-shaped lights are installed. The trunk lid is small and blends well with the voluminous rear bumper. The Russian car also has a relatively large rear bumper and lights. In addition, on the trunk lid there is a chrome-plated brand name, laid out in large Latin letters. There are also small stamped stripes on the trunk that are almost invisible.
By the way, the P3 is available only in a sedan body, while its opponent, in addition to the sedan, is available in station wagon, liftback and hatchback bodies. These cars differ from the sedan only in the shape of the rear part and the trunk lid.
Let's sum it up
Despite the price increase, the demand for this car has not decreased. This car is a serious competitor to Dastun On-Do and Renault Logan. The car has the following advantages:

- Low cost of maintenance.
But it is also worth highlighting the main disadvantages of the “Uzbek”. These include relatively poor interior build quality, stiff suspension, outdated design, meager equipment levels and poor handling.
As we can see, the Ravon Nexia RZ sedan is not without its shortcomings. But competitors also have the same disadvantages. Should I buy this car for myself? This is a purely individual question. "Ravon Nexia RZ" is the choice for those who want a simple, trouble-free car for everyday use. You won't be able to stand out in a crowd with him. You shouldn’t count on a comfortable interior with a spacious trunk either. After all, this is a budget car.
Salon and trunk
The cars belong to the budget class, so you can’t expect expensive interior trim. But, despite the use of relatively cheap plastic and fabric, it is made of very high quality. The cars can also boast of good noise insulation, which, however, will not be enough for true music lovers. The interior in both cases is quite spacious. True, some car owners and experts claim that the rear in the Lada is somewhat cramped than in the Ravon.
The cars have a fairly large dashboard of a modern design, which does not go well with round air vents, the shape of which is considered outdated. All functions are controlled in both cases by buttons and keys that are conveniently accessible to the driver under the multimedia system. There is no multifunction steering wheel, but the steering wheel is pleasant to the touch and turns very easily.
The Uzbek sedan, even in inexpensive versions, is sold with a good multimedia system. It has a sufficient range of options and sounds pretty good. The Russians install multimedia only on cars with maximum configurations. Owners of cheap versions have to be content with a simple audio system. But in both cases, real music lovers will have to think about purchasing other “music” after purchasing a car.
The seats in both cars are quite comfortable and have good lateral support. They are covered with fabric in dark shades, the color of which is offered to customers to choose from. There are several seat adjustment positions. In both cases, the rear will be a little cramped for three passengers. At the same time, according to many owners, the Lada can comfortably accommodate only two people in the rear, and not three, as stated by the manufacturer.
The Russian sedan has a more spacious trunk. Its volume is 520 liters versus 400 liters for the rival Central Asian manufacturer. Therefore, Granta is perfect even for transporting large cargo. Although you can easily transport quite a lot of things to Ravon. And if you need to increase the space in the luggage compartment of these cars, you can easily fold down the rear sofa.

Summarizing the review of the Ravon P3, we can say with confidence that the car fully justifies itself. Considering the budget cost and reliability of the technical base, it is simply impossible to choose a worthy analogue for it.
The advantages are obvious:

- Affordable price.
- Spacious interior and trunk.
Competitors with automatic transmissions are much more expensive, but in the budget segment this is a big plus. The lack of design refinements is the norm for a car of this class.

There is some more food for thought. Journalists from a popular auto magazine conducted a special test drive to compare the models and answer the question: Granta or Nexia - which is better? The test took place in winter, which in a certain way left its mark on the results of the race. Here are some interesting conclusions drawn by experts.
Test drive a Daewoo Nexia:
- The doors of Nexia freeze in the cold and are difficult to close.
- On Grant the thermostat slows down and the fan freezes. If you don't take action, it's chilly in the cabin.
- The Granta's interior is the most ergonomic and comfortable of all VAZ models. There are comfortable chairs, decent decoration, air conditioning and music. Beautiful and clear panel.
- Nexia loses in interior design. Ergonomics is also not a plus: “wobbly” seats, the steering wheel is too low, it’s cramped... The heating system works mediocrely and does not distribute warm air flows evenly.
- In terms of driving performance, Grants have the advantage. The steering wheel hangs a little on small turns, but otherwise the Lada is very good. It runs smoothly, but if necessary, shows character and quickly picks up speed, which is surprising, but true, given the standard capabilities of the engine.
