The best low and high beam lamps on the fret grant

Good visibility on the road, especially in the dark, is a guarantee of safety. A correctly installed lighting system is extremely important for a car; the issue of uninterrupted operation of long-range and neighbor Sveta headlights on a Lada Granta car.

In today’s article we will talk about the malfunctions and causes of failure (burnout) of low beam lamps on Lada Granta cars, we will look at what to look for when choosing, and I will also tell you step by step how to replace this undoubtedly important element of the car.

Oil or gas. what to choose?

Hydraulic shock absorbers used in cars can be divided into two groups: oil and gas. They work on a similar principle. However, they differ from each other in their damping medium and, therefore, in their properties:

  • The oil shock absorber is a twin-tube shock absorber. As the name suggests, it is equipped with two pipes: the outer one serves as the housing, and the inner one has a piston and hydraulic fluid that reduces vibrations. When the piston moves, oil flows between the pipes thanks to special valves. During compression, which is the first stage of shock absorber operation, the piston rod forces oil to flow down the piston. This is possible thanks to a one-way valve. This reduces the amount of space in the cylinder for the damping medium, i.e. oil. Its excess enters the compensation tank through the bottom valve. During this flow, resistances arise that weaken the vibrations. The piston rod then protrudes from the cylinder, which increases the pressure of the damping fluid on the piston. Oil flows through the valves again. During this process, vibration damping is resisted again. The volume of the piston rod is equalized by the oil flow in the compensation tank.
  • Gas shock absorber is the general name for oil and gas shock absorber. Unlike its predecessor, it consists of a single tube that contains a piston. The lower part of the shock absorber contains compressed gas (nitrogen), which is separated from the damping agent (oil) by a movable partition. Thanks to this design, the damping system does not require a compensation tank. The first stage of shock absorber operation is compression, during which the pressure increases. Under its influence, the piston rod slides into the working chamber and forces the piston to move down. As a result, oil enters the space above the piston. This is followed by reflection, during which we observe the upward movement of the piston. Thus, the oil pressure above the piston increases and the fluid moves again.

Shock absorbers are often considered only as elements that should provide better ride comfort. Meanwhile, they are also of great importance for the safety of car travel. They affect the vehicle's grip on the ground. When choosing these parts, it is worth considering whether gas or oil shock absorbers will work best.

Returning to the question of which struts are best to install on a Granta sedan, we recommend using oil ones; they will make the car ride softer and more comfortable. While gas ones are a more sporty solution.

H18 instead of h7

Both types of these lamps are designed for cars with separate reflectors for low and high beams. Sometimes they are installed for only one type of light, sometimes for both, but the essence is that these lamps have only one spiral. Visual comparison of lamps is similar to the game “Find 10 differences”, they seem very similar, but if you look closely, there is a difference.

And the spiral is longer, and the flask is of a slightly different shape and the mounting antennae are not the same. The lower bracket is different; in the H18 it is wider, so the lamp does not fit into the H7 seat from the box. Plus, the H18 has a cutout on the side, which doesn’t really affect anything.

Comparing the specifications reveals that the H18 has a power of 65 W, while the H7 has 55 W. And here doubts immediately creep in - after all, the old headlights and the wiring to them are designed for 55 W, and science says that installing more powerful lamps is risky.

Is it difficult to improve? No. The difference between the lamps is marked in red in the photo. It’s worth getting some wire cutters and just cutting off the excess, then H18 fits perfectly into the H7 seat. For safety, it is better to cover the flask itself during work so as not to accidentally damage it.

Is there a difference in light? Yes. Everyone who installed H18 lamps instead of H7 unanimously says that the light has become better. These include reviews from ordinary drivers who focus on sensations, and the opinion of test laboratories that measured light fluxes with a lux meter.

The difference may not be the declared 20%, but it is there. In principle, according to reviews, stock H18s give results similar to top-end H7s with increased light flux, such as Osram Night Breaker Laser (don’t take this as advertising, it’s just easier to compare using the example of one manufacturer, so here and below we write about Osram), which is already not bad.

What about the headlight and wiring? Such things cannot be measured once; all this is revealed only during operation. We were able to find reviews from people who drove a maximum of 15,000 kilometers with H18 and H7 headlights. During this time, nothing happened to anyone with the reflector, glass, or wiring.

The period, of course, is not the longest, but it still says that the H18 does not kill old headlights, at least instantly. We won’t say what will happen after 100-150 thousand kilometers without real feedback, although we will make a cautious proposal that with reasonable operation there shouldn’t be any big problems.

What about the money? One H18 lamp costs approximately 500 rubles. There is no particular choice, so far only Osram and Philips make these, in addition, for this base there are no lamps with a changed luminous and color flux, only stock and original. H7 lamps can be bought starting from 100 rubles for a Chinese noname, the original Osram costs 250 rubles, that is, half the price, but it shines worse.

It’s interesting to compare regular H18s with top-end H7 lamps like Osram Night Breaker Laser. According to reviews, they shine about the same. “Nightbreakers” cost 1000 rubles per lamp, that is, 2 times more expensive than H18, in addition, due to the manufacturing technology, they have a very short service life, so you will probably have to change several pairs during the life of standard H18 “nightbreaker” lamps.

Financial calculations allow us to conclude that if you want to save money and are completely satisfied with the standard light, then it is better not to experiment with H18, but to buy a regular H7, but for those who do not have enough light and who can pay more for a lamp, it makes sense to look towards H18 , and not tuned H7s, which are more expensive and will last less.

The main reasons for LBS burnout on Grant

Most often, Granta owners complain about the fairly frequent failure of low beam lamps. Indeed, they most often require changing names, which is understandable: after all, they work almost constantly.

If previously car owners turned on the lights at night and in inclement weather, now, according to the rules, they must always be on while driving. Lamps do not last forever, and if a cheaper analogue is purchased to replace the fairly good standard OSRAM light bulbs, the problem may become a regular one.

LED lamps for Lada Granta SMD 2835

The second common reason for bulbs burning out in front and rear headlights is moisture getting inside. The culprit is usually cracked or poorly fitting rubber seals located between the headlight housing and the glass. The presence of a problem is indicated by periodic fogging of the headlight from the inside.

Halogen lamps may not light due to improper installation. During this procedure, you must avoid touching the glass surface with your fingers.

Traces of grease significantly reduce the life of the light bulb. In addition, although in rare cases, the lamps do not light up due to too high voltage supplied by the car's alternator or poor terminal contact.

LED halogen lamps on Lada Granta H4 (prohibited for use)

In general, as you were able to notice, there may be more than enough reasons why the low beam on the Lada Granta stopped working. Let's now figure out in what cases you will need to replace the lamps, and in which cases you should contact a specialist.

H19 instead of h4

It would seem that with H19 and H4 there should be approximately the same story, because these are also lamps of the same type - double-filament, for cars that have one reflector for both the near and far. Visually, they are also very similar: two spirals, a “trough” under the middle one so as not to expose the light, 3 contacts for connecting a chip.

But studying the technical characteristics surprised me: if the H18 is slightly more powerful than the H7, then for the H19 exactly the same power is declared as for the H4 - 60 W for low beam and 55 W for high beam. But at the same time, the manufacturer promises an increase in illumination from 1000 Lm to 1200 Lm. Due to what? We could not find the answer to this question.

In Russia, H19 lamps are even more popular than H18, because they have been installed on the restyled Lada Granta for several years now. It turned out interesting with Granta. There, for the sake of design, the headlights had to be stretched out greatly, which is why this design became much worse than what it was before restyling.

To somehow compensate for this, the engineers decided to switch to new and, as it were, brighter lamps. But this didn’t have much of an effect - everyone who compared the light of the two Grantas unanimously said that it was better before the restyling. At the same time, H19 lamps have become a nightmare for grant makers.

You can buy this H4 in any bakery, even in the most remote village, but H19 may not be available in any store, even in a large city. Therefore, grant makers carefully studied the issue of reverse replacement. If you bend the protruding parts near the lower slots on H4, then these lamps easily fit into the H19 seat. But we are interested in another question - replacing H4 with H19.

Is it difficult to improve? The modification is the same as for H18 - you need to bite off part of the wide tendril. True, the issue of the influence of those very protrusions that grant makers bend has not been fully studied; in some headlights for H4, the H19 lamp may fall a little deeper than it should.

Is there a difference in light? This is where the most interesting thing is, on paper H19 should shine brighter, and the published measurements on the device show this. But for some reason the experience of hundreds of grant providers who have made a reverse replacement does not confirm this. No one writes that the light got worse after switching to H4, although in theory it should have been. So, there is probably still a difference between H4 and H19, but not as big as in the case of H7 and H18.

New Lada: LADA Priora (2170) v0.9 for Spin Tires

What about the headlight and wiring? But at this point you don’t have to worry, since the power of the lamps is the same, then installing H19 will definitely not do anything bad to the H4 headlight.

What about the money? The difference in price is even greater than that of the previous pair: the original Osram H19 costs about 500 rubles, while on the H4 a simple lamp from this company costs about 180 rubles (analogs are even cheaper). But top-end H4 lamps are already more expensive than 1000 rubles, so if H19 can compete with them in terms of luminous flux, then it will be profitable. But so far this is not completely clear.

Does it make sense to change working running lights?

Many car owners are interested in the issue of replacing standard DRL bulbs with more advanced ones, since the former are characterized by certain disadvantages:

  1. Dim lighting with yellowish tint. Firstly, in practice, such light often spoils the aesthetic appearance of the car as a whole, and secondly, its lighting does not have the best effect on the visibility of the car in front.
  2. Low service life of such lighting sources. So sooner or later you will have to face the need to replace light bulbs.

It is for these reasons that our car owners decide to replace traditional incandescent lamps with more advanced lighting sources

If you decide to install diode light elements instead of incandescent lamps, then when choosing, you should pay attention only to their base - replacing a light bulb involves using the appropriate connector (video author - City&Country Style channel)

It should also be noted that the main disadvantage of DRLs is that this type of optics is not fixed in any way in the current legislation, in particular, we are talking about lighting sources. Therefore, you must be prepared for the fact that you may encounter an inspector who wants to fine you for this. It must be taken into account that certain types of lighting devices must be manufactured in full compliance with GOST and standards. So if the technical specifications of the light bulbs being installed do not match those that should be installed, then this is fraught with possible problems in the future.

Basic characteristics of Lada Granta wheels

Almost all of the concern’s models, produced since the founding of the plant in the 60s of the last century, were compact budget cars with the same dimensions and wheelbase, with the exception of the VAZ 2121 “Niva” and its modifications. The LADA Granta wheel size, depending on the configuration, has the following options:

R14 wheels for Lada Granta

  • The wheel pattern is not much different from previous models produced back in the 80s and 90s of the 20th century. A stamped or cast disc is attached to the hub using 4 studs, the holes for which are located around a circle with a diameter of 98 mm. However, with minor manipulations with the hub, you can install a disc with a standard European bolt pattern for the small class 4x100.
  • The diameter of the central hole, set by the manufacturer, has also remained virtually unchanged over the past 30 years and is 58.6 mm, which ensures full compatibility of the brand with other VAZ models.
  • One of the main differences between more modern modifications of the Lada is that the developers use various parts to improve the exterior, among which the appearance of the rims plays a major role. If the most budget models are made in stamping with or without decorative caps and have dimensions R13 or R14, then the more prestigious versions of the brand already have diameters of 15, 16 or 17 inches in combination with low-profile tires and in a cast version, giving the Lada the status of an expensive car, unlike tires on Granta size 14 or 13.
  • The width of the wheels on the Lada Granta, thanks to the enlarged arches, unlike classic VAZ models, can vary in the range from 5J to 7J.
  • The ET (wheel offset) indicator ranges from 30 to 38 mm depending on the width of the wheel, which allows it to always be under the wheel arch and not interfere with the stability of the car.
  • All wheels on the Granta are equipped with summer tires of different sizes depending on the size of the rims. Thus, AvtoVAZ recommends using tires with dimensions 175/70/R13, 175/65/R14, 185/60/R14, 185/55/R15, 195/45/R16, 205/45/R16 or 205 for this model /40/R17. Each of the listed parameters should be selected not only depending on the installed discs, but also based on their operating conditions of the car, seasonality and the expenditure part of the owner’s budget.

Replacing DRL lamps on Lada Granta

07 May 2022 Lada.Online 183 881

On the Lada Granta, the liftback and sedan dimensions are combined with daytime running lights in one lamp. That’s what the lamp is called: a two-filament side light/daytime running light (it’s the same on the new and old family – W21/5W). When the ignition is turned on, the DRLs (21 W thread) are automatically turned on, and when the headlights are turned on, the DRLs go out and the side lights (5 W thread) turn on. Next, we will tell you about the features of replacing the DRL bulb of a Lada Granta..

To gain access to the left headlight unit, you need to move the engine air filter housing to the side. To do this, we release all the housing fasteners, the wiring harness and the sensor. Then we move the filter housing up, as shown in the photo:

To gain access to the right headlight unit, remove the engine cover. To do this, you will need to unscrew the oil filler cap, and then unclip the cap by pulling it up. Don't forget to screw the lid back on to prevent foreign objects from getting into the neck!

The connector for the headlight bulbs in the Lada Granta is located in place No. 7. To replace the DRL lamp, you need to remove the socket by turning it counterclockwise and then pull out the lamp. Install the new lamp in the reverse order, insert the cartridge into the groove on the headlight unit and turn clockwise.

The entire process of replacing DRL lamps is shown in the video:

Why do DRL bulbs often burn out on Lada Granta? The reason is an error during replacement. Do not touch the bulbs of halogen lamps with your fingers. Work in clean cotton gloves without rubber coating. Greasy fingerprints left on the lamp bulb will shorten its service life several times. To remove contaminants, wipe the flask with a clean cloth moistened with alcohol.

As a reminder, check your headlights periodically and adjust your headlights if necessary.

Nuances of the work, possible problems

Finally, about some nuances of the replacement. In general, the operation is not difficult, but sometimes problems arise.

When installing halogen lamps, please note that touching the bulb with your hands is not allowed. During installation/dismantling, the element should only be held by the base.

If you touch the bulb, fingerprints will remain on its surface, which will lead to darkening of the glass and rapid failure of the element.

Therefore, during the replacement process, you should wear clean gloves. If you accidentally touched the flask with your fingers, any remaining traces of contact should be removed. And for this, clean rags and alcohol come in handy.

Work should be carried out at positive temperatures. Some car enthusiasts who carried out replacements in cold weather simply broke the cover latch. This happens because plastic hardens in the cold, becomes brittle and breaks easily.

Another problem that Lada Granta car owners face when replacing is the sticking of the rubber boot to the headlight housing.

In this case, you can’t do anything special and all that remains is to apply force, but everything must be done carefully so as not to tear the rubber element and also not to damage the lamp.

If the low beam lamp on the driver's side has burned out (further operation of the car is prohibited by traffic rules, and this will result in a fine), and there is no replacement element, then you can swap the tabs with the headlights. After this you can continue moving.

Lamps used in the Lada Granta car

For reasons of safety of drivers, passengers and pedestrians, the Traffic Rules and the Technical Regulations on the Safety of Wheeled Vehicles prohibit the operation of vehicles whose external lighting devices do not meet the design requirements of the vehicle.

After all, on the one hand, it is necessary that the car is clearly visible on the road, and on the other hand, it is dangerous to blind other drivers or pedestrians with too bright or incorrectly adjusted headlights. Working brake lights will allow drivers moving behind you to keep a safe distance. There are many such nuances, and everyone can save not only money and nerves, but often also health.

Opening access to the headlight

The peculiarity of how to change a low beam lamp on a Grant is that access to the light device is closed. Removal of halogen lighting equipment is done from the inside of the headlight. The driver will have to climb under the hood from the power unit side. In this case, space limitations must be taken into account. To make extraction more comfortable, you can get rid of some motor elements that get in the way.

For example, on the left side you can unscrew the lock of the air filter housing, on the right side you can remove the cover to protect the engine. After which the filler cap is returned to its original place to fill the oil.

It is not necessary to remove these elements to gain access to the headlight. Motorists with extensive experience will have no problems getting to the lights.

Any modern car or truck can be serviced and repaired independently, in a regular garage. All you need for this is a set of tools and a factory repair manual with a detailed (step-by-step) description of the operations. Such a manual should contain the types of operating fluids, oils and lubricants used, and most importantly, the tightening torques of all threaded connections of parts of vehicle components and assemblies. Italian cars – Fiat (Fiat) Alfa Romeo (Alfa Romeo) Lancia (Lancia) Ferrari (Ferrari) Mazerati (Maserati) have their own design features. Also, all French cars – Peugout (Peugeot), Renault (Renault) and Citroen (Citroen) can be distinguished into a special group. German cars are complex. This especially applies to MercedesBenz, BMW, Audi and Porsche, and to a lesser extent to Volkswagen and Opel. The next large group, separated by design features, consists of American manufacturers - Chrysler, Jeep, Plymouth, Dodge, Eagle, Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Ford, Mercury, Lincoln. Among the Korean companies, Hyundai/Kia, GM–DAT (Daewoo), SsangYong should be noted.

More recently, Japanese cars were distinguished by their relatively low initial cost and affordable prices for spare parts, but recently they have caught up with prestigious European brands in these indicators. Moreover, this applies almost equally to all brands of cars from the land of the rising sun - Toyota (Toyota), Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi), Subaru (Subaru), Isuzu (Isuzu), Honda (Honda), Mazda (Mazda or as Matsuda used to say) , Suzuki (Suzuki), Daihatsu (Daihatsu), Nissan (Nissan). Well, cars produced under the Japanese-American brands Lexus, Scion, Infinity, Acura were not cheap from the very beginning.

Domestic cars have also changed a lot with the introduction of Euro-3 standards. Lada Kalina, Lada Priora and even Lada Niva 4x4 are now much more difficult to maintain and repair.

Process Features

To ensure that the process of dismantling and replacing the lighting component is successful, make sure that there is no condensation in the reflector unit. If you still find moisture in the block, clean the drainage channel, which you can find near the mounting of the turn signal light (on the left or right of the car).

We can give some more advice to motorists:

  • take into account the interval from the moment the vehicle's lighting system is turned off. Do not start work immediately after turning off the lighting system, as this may cause burns;
  • Whatever lamp you replace (xenon or halogen), wear protective gloves;
  • Do not replace lighting elements with overly powerful ones, as they can lead to failure of the lighting device.

Each lensed headlight includes the following main components:

Bulb: Every headlight needs a bulb. This type of headlight can use halogen, xenon (HID) and LED bulbs as the light source. Lens headlight bulbs can be much brighter than reflector headlight bulbs.

Reflector: Just like the classic headlight type, the lenses also have a component called a reflector. This is exactly the function it performs. The only difference is that it uses an ellipse-shaped reflector instead of a parabolic one. The difference in shape causes the light emitted by the lens lamp to be focused to a narrow point near the front of the reflector where it meets the shutter, or correction screen as it is also called.

Screen: This is one of the most important components in this type of system, and is an element that classic reflector housings simply do not have. The component interrupts the light beam from below, causing it to abruptly turn off, thereby effectively directing the beam onto the road rather than allowing it to blind other vehicle occupants. In some vehicles, this light shutter can be raised and lowered to switch between low and high beams.

Lens (lens): This is the last component you will find in your headlights. It is designed to uniformly distribute the already formed beam of light, directed by an elliptical reflector and shutter. Some lenses also have a feature that further softens the boundary between the light and the unlit part of the road.

Diagram showing the operation of lensed headlights:

All lens-equipped headlights have the same basic design, but may use several different types of bulbs. Here are the main types that motorists most often encounter on the road (a brief explanation of each type):

Halogen: The first generation of headlights used halogen bulbs, the same as conventional lighting fixtures of the past and present. These headlights typically produce a more uniform beam of light than reflector headlights, which is a plus. But at the same time they have a sharper boundary between light and darkness - this is bad, even despite the use of older technology of less bright halogen lamps.

Xenon: The second type of headlights with lenses that came a little later is the xenon HID bulbs. They are available and quite common today.

They are much brighter than traditional halogen lamps and last longer. It's worth remembering that while xenon is better than halogen, putting HID bulbs in a lens housing designed for halogen is a bad idea. Not only can the reflector quickly fade, but the traffic police will not praise you for such experiments.

LED: The newest type of light source in headlights. They are very energy efficient and last much longer than halogen or xenon bulbs. If they have never been damaged, LED headlights may even outlive the vehicle in which they are installed.

Halo, or “angel eyes”: you've seen these glowing lens frames in the headlights of BMW and other manufacturers. Looks beautiful. A distinctive feature that has become the hallmark of lensed headlights. Despite this, halos themselves do not use lens technology, but are closely related to them.

In fact, these rings are created using about half a dozen different technologies, such as cold cathode fluorescent (CCFL) lamps, LEDs, and even incandescent lamps.

Manufacturers

Currently, there are a large number of brands and manufacturers on the market. Not taking into account little-known Chinese and other brands, the most common are the following: OSRAM, Philips, BOSCH, Narva, Mayak. The choice between them should be made based on standard indicators - the presence of the desired light bulb model in their line, the warranty period, the originality of the product, the price-quality ratio.

Employees of the reputable publishing house “Behind the Wheel” conducted real tests of lamps from the manufacturers mentioned above. The tests were carried out on a Chevrolet Aveo car with headlights that had been in use for one and a half years. The luminous flux value was measured using the Ecolight-02 device separately for the right and left headlights. The test results are summarized in a table. The letter "L" means left headlight, and "P" means right headlight.

The table also shows values for light-emitting diode (LED) lamps that have been inserted into headlights designed for standard halogen lamps. As can be seen from the tests performed and the results presented, their luminous flux indicators are extremely low.

Types of lighting

Low beam bulbs differ in their level of energy consumption, brightness and other characteristics. Highlight:

  • halogen models. They are classic for “Grants” and represent a modern type of incandescent lamps with a base. They increase the temperature of the filament to 3000 degrees, and the flask contains vapors of halogen gases. They have a low cost, but provide good visibility and an average operating period;
  • xenon They are characterized by a bright white glow, similar in its characteristics to daylight. The flask of such products contains inert gases through which an electric discharge passes. They have minimal dimensions and a long service life;
  • LED These products have not yet gained popularity as main lights, but diodes are widely used as a secondary light source due to their brightness and extremely long service life.

Lada Granta headlights, with daytime running lights

Daytime running lights can be a good alternative to low beam lighting. They come to the aid of drivers who do not like to turn on low beams during the daytime, as this significantly depletes fuel reserves. Running lights are less powerful, but on the road they clearly indicate a car in traffic, while reducing the load on the car generator.

H7 car lamp tests

1. Specialists from the NIIAEI research center tested 20 H7 type lamps (February 2022). The rating was as follows:

  1. OSRAM Night Breaker - the promised 90% increase in illumination was found only at the 50R point.
  2. Bosch Pure Light – meets the requirements, but does not declare any special features.
  3. OSRAM Silverstar – the packaging promised “50%” and “20 m”, but the protocols did not record anything like that.
  4. OSRAM Original - the lamp passed the tests, although at the 75R point there was barely enough illumination. But at the 50R point there is a huge reserve!
  5. NARVA Long Life - the lamp illuminates the right side of the road with a reserve - this is good. But at point 0 there is no reserve at all.
  6. NARVA - the right shoulder is illuminated with a reserve, and at point 0 - back to back according to the standard.
  7. IPF - the light bulbs met the standard requirements, but where does such a deafening price come from?
  8. OSRAM Allseason - the lamps passed the tests, but experts noted that the color was clearly tilted towards yellow - this is unacceptable for low beam.
  9. OSRAM Cool Blue – the light bulb was failed by measurement at point 0: the permissible illumination limit was exceeded.
  10. Philips X-tremeVision – at point 0, the famous light bulb unexpectedly exceeded the standard requirements.
  11. Philips BlueVision Ultra – at the 50L point the illumination exceeds the permissible level.
  12. “Mayak Ultra” - Chinese light bulbs, despite the declared excess power, did not reach the illuminance level at 75R.
  13. “Mayak Ultra Super White” - country of origin not specified. The light bulbs did not reach the illumination level at 75R.
  14. BlueVision DLAA – there is no cut-off line at all. The verdict is clear: it cannot be used on public roads.
  15. SHO-ME Super Bright Halogen – “super-bright” light bulbs cannot be used: at points 50L and 0 there is a significant excess of illumination.
  16. MegaPower Rallyblue – with such a bulb it won’t take long to burn out. The reflector of the reference headlight began to melt, because of this the test was immediately stopped. Only the word Rally hints at the fact that it is not for roads.

New Lada: How to change the low beam bulb on a Grant

Out of the standings:

  • OSRAM Hyper White 62210CBH - “super white” bulbs cannot be used on public roads, and the manufacturer warned about this. Lack of illumination at points 75R and 50R, too much illumination at point 0.
  • NARVA Range Power White - why do we sell products “not for Europe”? High current consumption, too much illumination at point 0, too little at point 75R.
  • HID class Excellent blue white bulb - the standards are failed at points 50R and 75R, so these lamps really cannot be used on public roads. It’s good that the manufacturer warned about this, albeit in English.

5. “Behind the Wheel” checked the life of 11 automobile lamps (August 2021). The reliability rating was as follows:

  1. Bosch LF – Competition winner: the lamp gave up only when the supply voltage was above 19.7 V.
  2. Narva Standard 48328 – A good and inexpensive lamp – we recommend it.
  3. Narva Long Life 48329 – “Long-playing” Narva was inferior to its untitled relative, although it was twice as expensive as that one.
  4. Narva Range Power 90 48047 – Expensive! The regular Narva costs almost three times less, but lasts longer than this one.
  5. Osram Night Breaker Unlimited 64210NBU-02B 499 NBU – Expensive Osram gave up very quickly.
  6. Osram Original 64210–01B 499 – Excellent bulb - lasted up to 19.0 V. And the price is reasonable.
  7. Osram Ultra Life 64210ULT-01B 499 ULT – This lamp was disappointing: I was hoping that since it was expensive, it would last longer.
  8. Philips RacingVision 12972RVS2 – The promised “150%” immediately affected the resource: this lamp burned out first! It's a pity for the money.
  9. Philips LongLife Ecovision 12972LLECOB1 – The promises of long life turned out to be true. But the result is not the best in our test, and the price is not the lowest.
  10. Dialuch 12557 – The success of the Belarusian light bulb came as a surprise: 2nd–3rd place. Only Bosch lasted longer.
  11. Innovator N009 – The cheapest light bulb in our sample, and a Chinese one at that, showed vice-champion character: 2nd–3rd place! Only the winner is better.

6. In May 2022, experts from the Za Rulem magazine tested 9 H7 lamps. Everyone failed, no one worked 500 hours.

The conclusion is sad: purchasing a reliable light bulb has turned into a lottery. During the tests, we did not notice any dependence of the resource on the authority of the brand. And we still recommend purchasing the simplest lamps, without any “tuning” and alluring “additional interest”. True, there are also light bulbs on sale with an increased resource - Long Life. We plan to check them separately.

Characteristics of standard tires on the Lada Granta liftback

The premium and most expensive modification of this car is considered to be the Lada Granta Liftback, equipped not only with a 1.6 engine, like the Sport package, but also in the most complete versions, the manufacturer installs a 5-speed automatic transmission on it.

Wheels for Lada Granta Liftback

Belshina tires are installed on domestic cars, namely the Art Motion model, since the concern has long had business relations with its Belarusian partner. These tires are installed in sizes 14 and 15 inches, and the most prestigious option is equipped with tires from the world famous brand Continental with a seat diameter of R16. As for the standard version, the model’s rims are shod with tires with dimensions 190/65/R15:

  • The sole width of 195 mm is sufficient for dynamic driving around the city; the car does not fall under its own weight, since the large area of contact with the road surface greatly reduces the specific pressure per cm² of soil. The high profile provides a very powerful air gap between the disc rim and the road, which acts as a natural shock absorber.
  • A profile with a height of 65 mm obliges you to install tires only with a reinforced side cord in the summer, because when driving fast and performing maneuvers at high speed, deformation of the tires is possible, up to their depressurization.

This height of the side surface allows you to install high-quality all-season tires and completely forget about the annual re-shoeing of the vehicle.

  • The size of the R15, of course, is too small for driving outside the city. But together with the 65 mm profile, the total diameter of the wheel assembly is 15 x 25.4 65 65 = 511 mm, which is quite enough to provide normal ground clearance for a compact liftback.

The luggage compartment volume for the LADA Granta Liftback is significantly larger than that of the sedan. If the driver, when purchasing a car, plans to transport cargo, for example, when traveling to the country, he should install tires with a higher load index in order to provide them with a sufficient margin of safety. In other cases, the size of the wheels on the Granta can be safely selected in accordance with the recommendations of AvtoVAZ.

Recommendations for use

What technical fluids are poured into the Lada Granta from the factory?

To prevent big problems from arising and fix minor problems when it's easiest to do so, you need to follow a few simple rules:

Periodic inspection It is necessary to check the functionality of the light devices before each trip, in addition, at least once a month inspect the engine compartment and pay special attention to the reliable fastening of the wiring harnesses and all connections; very often problems arise due to the fact that the car’s wiring dangles and rubs about moving elements Monitoring the condition of devices If you heard extraneous sounds when turning on the lights (relay clicks), a button or steering column switch began to work poorly, then it is better to immediately deal with the problem, without waiting for the moment when the unit fails.

Also, you should not drive with damaged headlight lenses, as this will allow moisture to get inside and the internal elements will deteriorate.

Using high-quality spare parts If you purchase light bulbs, then you should not choose options with too much power, this will not significantly improve the luminous flux, but the wiring and other elements of the system will be subject to increased stress, which can even lead to short circuits.

You shouldn’t skimp on quality either - a low price is most often an indication of low reliability, and in the end you will still overpay due to frequent replacements

Accuracy of repairs If you carry out the work yourself, it is very important not to damage connections, wires and other elements. You need to do everything correctly and not try to solve problems with electrical tape and twists - these are the connections that are the least reliable, do not spare money and do everything as it should be
