On the Lada Granta, the liftback and sedan dimensions are combined with daytime running lights in one lamp. That’s what the lamp is called: a two-filament side light/daytime running light (it’s the same on the new and old family - W21/5W). When the ignition is turned on, the DRLs (21 W thread) are automatically turned on, and when the headlights are turned on, the DRLs go out and the side lights (5 W thread) turn on. Next, we will tell you about the features of replacing the DRL bulb of a Lada Granta..

Type of lamps used on Lada Granta

The Lada Granta uses halogen double-filament lamps with an H4 socket. One such lamp, thanks to the presence of two filaments, allows the headlight to operate in two lighting modes - low and high beam.

At the same time, the characteristics must indicate the luminous power of each thread.

For lamps intended for use on Granta, the high beam filament power should be 60 W, and the low beam filament power should be 55 W.

The disadvantage of such lighting elements is the fact that if at least one filament burns out, the lamp will have to be completely replaced, although the second filament remains working. But at the same time, the two-strand layout makes the replacement process easier.

The thread responsible for the low beam operating mode usually burns out. This happens due to the fact that this mode is used much more often and for longer than high beam.

Reasons for a non-working headlight

Often, replacing low beam lamps on a Lada Granta sedan or liftback is carried out in the event of a burnout of the filaments.

But we note that the headlight may not work due to a blown fuse or damage to the wiring that powers it.

Therefore, if you detect inoperative headlights on the Lada Granta, you should check the corresponding fusible elements in the safety block, as well as the integrity of the wiring.

Even if the lamps are in good working order, they must be changed every 3-4 years of vehicle operation. This is due to the fact that the bulb of the element gradually becomes cloudy, due to which the intensity of the glow decreases.

Changing the lamps in the Lada Granta headlight

Replacement algorithm

To change the low beam lamp on a Lada Granta, in general, no tools are required. But it is advisable to have a long screwdriver, a battery-powered headlamp (ideal), a clean napkin and alcohol (alcohol-containing liquid) on hand.

The technology for replacing lighting elements is the same for both headlights, so let’s look at the algorithm using the example of the left one.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Turn off the lights on the car, turn off the engine and turn the ignition switch to position “0”;

  2. Open the hood;

  3. Shine a flashlight under the upper cross member on the left side to find the headlight cover;
  4. Find the locking tab in the upper part, press it and remove the cover;

  5. We pull the chip with the wiring from the lamp terminals (it fits tightly, so you need to pull it with force, but at the same time carefully);
  6. We move the chip to the side;

  7. Remove the protective boot placed on the body. To do this, there are three tabs around the circumference of the boot that you need to pull;

  8. Remove the lamp clamp (the clamp consists of two brackets that need to be removed from the eyes of the mounting strip);

  9. We take hold of the terminals of the lamp and remove it;

  10. We install a new light bulb in place of the old element and fix it;
  11. All that remains is to put the boot in place, put on the chip with wires and close the headlight with the lid.

We carry out a similar operation with another headlight. You can take a closer look at how to replace a low beam lamp on a Lada Granta in the video presented.

DRL lamp replacement process

It is necessary to remove (move aside) the air filter housing

  1. To gain the necessary access to the left headlight unit , you need to move to the side the housing, inside of which the engine air filter is located. For this purpose, we dismantle all housing fastenings, wiring harnesses and sensor. After this, you can slide the filter housing up.
  2. But to gain access to the right headlight unit , you will need to remove the power unit cover. To do this, you need to unscrew the oil filler cap, and then carefully snap off the cap. This is done with a confident upward movement. The main thing is not to forget to screw the lid back into place in order to prevent the possibility of solid objects falling into the neck, including dirt, which can be quite a lot under the hood.

Which parts to choose

Granta, whose lamps are easy to find in any auto parts store, is equipped with modern optics that illuminate the road surface in accordance with all GOST requirements.

When choosing lamps, it is important to observe the following parameters:

  • designation of the base;
  • voltage;
  • power.

Installation of parts that do not meet the requirements often leads to melting of the base, transparent cover or headlight housing.

Lamps used on Grant:

  • low/high beam – H4 55/60W 12V;
  • direction indicator block – PY21W 12V/21W;
  • running light/marker – P21 5/21W 12V.

A special feature of the H4 format is a combined bulb for near and far illumination. Each type of light has its own thread. If one of them burns out, the second continues to work.

The factory in Grant comes with lighting elements from Philips or Osram, depending on the batch.

The following options are suitable as a replacement:

  • Bosch;
  • Philips;
  • Osram;
  • MTF;
  • Koito.

Japanese Koito and Korean MTF are expensive, so owners rarely choose them to replace the original ones.

Philips X-treme Vision

According to test results from independent experts, these consumables have one of the best indicators of brightness and illumination in the dark.

The manufacturer indicates the following features:

  • light temperature corresponds to 3500K;
  • increase in the lighting area of Grants up to 45 meters in comparison with standard lamps;
  • service life up to 450 hours.

The packaging with two parts included is produced in Poland. During installation, car enthusiasts note a significant improvement in low beam and sufficient brightness in rainy weather. The disadvantages include a short service life. On average, such parts work in Grant from 1 to 2 years.

Philips LongLife EcoVision

Lamps are supplied from factories in Poland and Germany. A distinctive feature is an increased service life of up to 1500 hours, which equates to 4-5 years of operation or 100,000 km.

Characteristics for low and high beam:

  • quartz flask with increased strength indicators;
  • thread resistant to shock and vibration;
  • powerful luminous flux due to increased gas pressure in the bulb.

The lamps do not differ in lighting quality from the original ones, but they work much longer and are also not afraid of shocks.

Bosch Pure Light

You can purchase such lamps for Granta in a package of one piece. This is convenient for owners who have one lamp burnt out and do not want to pay for both.

Peculiarities:

  • the manufacturer promises an increase in light spot of up to 90%;
  • The item comes with a silver plated cartridge and a blue bulb to provide white light.

The lamps show themselves in Grants optics on the positive side and last about 2-3 years. Drivers often choose Bosch for its reasonable price and good workmanship. Country of origin: Germany, Poland.

Osram Original Line

The cost of the part is comparable to the prices of lamps from Bosch. The manufacturer promises car owners the following features:

  • improving the length of the light beam, increasing visibility on the roadside;
  • pressure in the flask provides a power increase of up to 130%.

Lamps are supplied individually. The production plant is located in Germany. The part has a good service life of 500 hours and is inexpensive. These lamps are factory installed on many makes of cars.

Characteristics of standard tires on LADA Granta Liftback

The premium and most expensive modification of this car is considered to be the Lada Granta Liftback, equipped not only with a 1.6 engine, like the Sport package, but also in the most complete versions, the manufacturer installs a 5-speed automatic transmission on it.

Belshina tires are installed on domestic cars, namely the Art Motion model, since the concern has long had business relations with its Belarusian partner. These tires are installed in sizes 14 and 15 inches, and the most prestigious option is equipped with tires from the world famous brand Continental with a seat diameter of R16. As for the standard version, the model’s rims are shod with tires with dimensions 190/65/R15:

  • The sole width of 195 mm is sufficient for dynamic driving around the city; the car does not fall under its own weight, since the large area of contact with the road surface greatly reduces the specific pressure per cm² of soil. The high profile provides a very powerful air gap between the disc rim and the road, which acts as a natural shock absorber.
  • A profile with a height of 65 mm obliges you to install tires only with a reinforced side cord in the summer, because when driving fast and performing maneuvers at high speed, deformation of the tires is possible, up to their depressurization.

This height of the side surface allows you to install high-quality all-season tires and completely forget about the annual re-shoeing of the vehicle.

  • The size of the R15, of course, is too small for driving outside the city. But together with the 65 mm profile, the total diameter of the wheel assembly is 15 x 25.4 65 65 = 511 mm, which is quite enough to provide normal ground clearance for a compact liftback.

The luggage compartment volume for the LADA Granta Liftback is significantly larger than that of the sedan. If the driver, when purchasing a car, plans to transport cargo, for example, when traveling to the country, he should install tires with a higher load index in order to provide them with a sufficient margin of safety. In other cases, the size of the wheels on the Granta can be safely selected in accordance with the recommendations of AvtoVAZ.

Choosing the best Lada Granta racks

KYB Monomax Gas Shock

The KYB Monomax Gas Shock is a shock absorber with 40% greater damping capacity than standard gas shock absorbers, making it the ideal choice for upgrading your sedan's suspension. The monotube design also helps make them one of the best shock absorbers for city cars.

Additionally, the rugged design of these shock absorbers ensures that they automatically adapt to different driving conditions, making them ideal for almost any terrain.

The KYB Monomax Gas Shock series has some amazing shock absorber models. They include the KYB 565102. which is a front shock absorber that gives cars exceptional stability.

The included bushings may not fit some vehicles, but you can easily obtain replacements.

Lamps installed in the headlight

The Lada Granta uses combination headlights, which include:

  • DRL/side light bulb (socket type P, power 21 W – main filament, 5 W – additional);
  • High/low beam lamp (base type - H4, high beam filament power - 60 W, low beam - 55 W);
  • Turn signal (base – P, orange bulb, power – 21 W).

All of the indicated lamps in the Lada Granta headlight are changed individually.

Let there be white light!

I decided to transform the car's headlights by installing lamps with a glow temperature of 5000 K, which should give a white output.
I chose exactly this temperature value, as for me it is the most optimal in terms of lighting. Something like a golden mean. But first I had to think, is it worth it? As you know, a yellow tint with a glow temperature of 2500-3500K is the most optimal in rainy weather, as well as in fog. Many people complain that white headlights are worse than yellow ones. I agree with this to some extent, since I have already driven cars with white lighting, and purely subjectively, it was unusual for my eyes to peer into the asphalt through the white glow of the headlights. But after a while, the eyes get used to it and visibility becomes better.

But white lighting also has its advantages. They appear in the winter time of day. White light begins to show itself well when reflected from the snow.

After weighing all the pros and cons, I still decided to change the standard light bulbs. Even from a purely aesthetic point of view, a car with white light looks more modern to me.

Now as for the lamps themselves

Entering the store, several types of lamps and manufacturers appeared before me. There were lamps from Osram, Philips, etc. I immediately decided for myself that I would use standard power, the type of lamp would be halogen.

I thought for a long time and decided what to take, and in the end the choice fell on Philips lamps.

Adviсe

If you notice that your running light bulbs burn out too often, the reason may be due to errors during replacement. The fact is that you cannot touch the bulbs of halogen lamps with bare hands. It is best to work in new cotton gloves that are free from dirt and other defects. The fact is that greasy marks that will remain on the lamp bulb can reduce the overall service life by up to several times. And to remove dirt, you just need to wipe the flask with a cloth previously moistened in an alcohol solution.

And, of course, do not forget that after replacing the lamps you may need to adjust the headlights.

Features of choosing LBS

Standard low beam lamps that are installed on the Lada Granta 60/55 H4: where 60/55 is the power of the low beam (55) and high beam (60) in watts. H4 is the type of base. Therefore, please note that this lamp is used for both low and high beam headlights.

In addition, the low beam lamps on the Lada Granta differ in many respects. The most popular of which are:

  • Philips X-treme Vision (the brightest, give white light) Features declared by the manufacturer: bright white light, increase the lighting area in front of the car by 45 m, high-quality quartz glass. One of the highest brightness levels and incredible comfort in the dark.
  • Philips LongLife EcoVision (inexpensive, extended service life) Features: high-strength quartz glass, resistant to temperature changes and vibration, high internal pressure - powerful light.
  • Bosch Pure Light (extended service life) Features stated by the manufacturer: up to 90% more light, exclusive design with silver plating and blue sector.
  • Osram Original Line (good illumination area) Features: OEM quality, improved visibility up to 130%.

What can you supply?

Standard for this car are halogen lamps. But it is quite possible to install other types of lighting elements. The following types of lamps can be installed on Granta:

  • XENON. The light of such paws is provided by the creation of an electric arc in an environment of inert gases. They are distinguished by high brightness, relatively small dimensions and a significant service life;

  • LED. They are becoming increasingly popular among car enthusiasts. Their advantages include significant light brightness, low power consumption, and long service life.

But it’s still better not to experiment with light, but to use the Granta lamps that are indicated in those. documentation for the car, namely halogen.

With their quite good performance indicators, such lighting devices are the most inexpensive, and there is a large selection of them, which allows you to choose the best option for use.

Types of lighting

Low beam bulbs differ in their level of energy consumption, brightness and other characteristics. Highlight:

  • halogen models. They are classic for “Grants” and represent a modern type of incandescent lamps with a base. They increase the temperature of the filament to 3000 degrees, and the flask contains vapors of halogen gases. They have a low cost, but provide good visibility and an average operating period;
  • xenon They are characterized by a bright white glow, similar in its characteristics to daylight. The flask of such products contains inert gases through which an electric discharge passes. They have minimal dimensions and a long service life;
  • LED These products have not yet gained popularity as main lights, but diodes are widely used as a secondary light source due to their brightness and extremely long service life.

When to change lamps

Original light bulbs in Grant can last from 2 to 4 years. Replacement is necessary when signs appear:

  • reducing beam power;
  • a sharp increase in brightness;
  • burnout of one of the threads.

The brightness of the Granta headlight is reduced due to burning of the filaments and smoke on the inner surface of the bulb. In this case, the flow of light is significantly reduced: the reflector cannot collect the required amount of light and direct it onto the road. The malfunction occurs at dusk, rain and on unlit sections of the road.

When falling into a hole, drivers notice a sharp increase in the light power in one of the headlights. This indicates a partial break of the filament and an excess of temperature at the filament point. Such a lamp needs to be replaced, as it is not capable of working for more than one day or even a few minutes.

If the thread breaks, the Grant optics go out and show no signs of operation until the burnt-out part is replaced.

When operating a Grant with a non-working lighting source, traffic police officers may issue a fine of 500 rubles.

Daytime running lights based on diodes

Replacing incandescent lamps and installing LEDs on a Lada Granta car does not require special skills, but has some nuances. Firstly, the lamps in both headlights must be replaced at the same time: if you change one incandescent lamp to an LED one, then be sure to change the other one too. Secondly, replacing lamps with LED lighting sources requires mandatory compliance with power polarity.

Please note: if you try to install an LED lamp without observing the polarity, it will instantly fail. Moreover, there is a high probability of failure of the power fuse for the DRL lamps. Therefore, if your actions nevertheless lead to the device burning out, be sure to change the fuse before trying again.
