The traffic regulations of any country now have a clause obliging drivers to drive with low beam headlights or daytime running lights on even during the day. There are no DRLs on the VAZ-2110. And the factory headlights don't work very well. Poor low beams are a nuisance for drivers and one of the causes of accidents involving pedestrians. The factory low beam lamps of the VAZ-2110 shine so that pedestrians are not always visible on dark roads. Drivers are trying to replace standard light bulbs with alternative options. Now there is a large selection of different lamps, and standard elements can be replaced with any options. The modern market offers more technologically advanced Philips halogen bulbs, LED low beam products, as well as xenon models. We will talk about the latter in more detail.

Self-replacement of light elements of VAZ 2110

Replacing the low beam lamp of a VAZ 2110 does not require dismantling the headlights. To carry out the work you need to follow the steps:

  • turn off the engine;
  • open the hood;
  • remove the protective cover from the VAZ headlight;
  • disconnect the chip with wires;
  • pull back the spring clip;
  • remove the burnt part;
  • install the new one in reverse order.

In the low and high beam of the VAZ 2110, a standard H1 lamp base with characteristics of 12v, 55w is used. Installing LED lamps may require modification of the seat, installation of a special lens and wiring. Installation of xenon is allowed in a headlight with a certain marking; the car must also have an automatic corrector and a built-in washer.

Changing a light bulb in a VAZ of any model is quite simple. This does not require special knowledge or complex tools. The standard procedure takes no more than 15-20 minutes. After the procedure, you need to check the optics settings in a specialized car service center or on your own.

A halogen lamp can last from 2 to 5 years, depending on operating conditions. During the replacement process, it is important to be careful not to touch the bulb with ungloved hands, as this will significantly reduce the service life and cause the headlight to malfunction.

Everyone knows that even in the daytime, you need to drive with your low beams on. Today we will talk about what a low beam lamp should be like for a VAZ 2110. If we assume that we switch from high beam to low beam mainly only when oncoming traffic is within sight, then it wouldn’t hurt to make the lighting of our route better.

After all, a bad neighbor is not only an inconvenience for the driver, but also one of the reasons for collisions with pedestrians, who are not always visible in the dark.

Over the past 10 years, which is how long they have been in operation, these lamps have managed to win the hearts of the majority of owners of foreign and domestic cars. There is a wide range of light bulbs on the market. Xenon products are significantly brighter than traditional halogen light. Disadvantages include difficulties during the installation process and the need to purchase and install an ignition unit. The price of the kit starts from one and a half thousand rubles, excluding installation.


The xenon lamp provides significantly better visibility for the driver of the car, and therefore increases the level of safety. The luminous flux of such optics will be 2.8 times higher than that of halogen optics. At the same time, the power consumption is one and a half times less. Xenon light is as close as possible to natural light (it has no visible yellowness). The service life of such gas-filled products is 5 times longer than that of an ordinary lamp. Such light not only increases safety, but also attracts the attention of other road users. And one more advantage - the headlight shines with a pure white, not a yellow beam. This makes the car stand out from the crowd.

Alternative

Today, for example, LED low beam lamps cost 12 - 13 dollars each.

  • first of all, LED devices last much longer than Kirzhach (twenty times);
  • they consume very little energy, again - compared to halogen ones, thus also saving gasoline;
  • These are not the LED lights that many people put on the dashboard, making angel eyes out of them, etc., but specially designed to replace the usual ones;
  • they come with two types of base; they can be used for both low beam and PTF, since they have high “piercing” ability;
  • they showed themselves especially well on the VAZ 2110, in which a regular halogen Avtosvet lamp often first blinks, then burns out, and the relay “flies” with it;
  • LED lamps with a total brightness of 195 lumens will help make the low beam better. One W is equal to approximately 11 L;
  • as practice shows, relays do not suffer from this, but last even longer;
  • give a light angle of 320 degrees. They have adjustments just like regular ones.

Halogen lamps

They are also widespread. The products are ideal for use in foggy conditions. The low price makes them accessible to everyone. A significant disadvantage of such light is poor road lighting. But there are manufacturers who make high-quality and bright light bulbs for cars. The light bulb is a flask made of quartz glass. There is an inert gas inside it. These are halogen vapors. The lamp can become very hot during operation, and quartz glass best withstands working in such conditions. There are a huge number of types of these light bulbs on the market.


They are distinguished by their base. VAZ-2110 low beam lamps must be equipped with an H1 socket. Also on sale are products of type H4. They are also used in low beam. The halogen lamp is powered by 12V and has a rated power of 55W. As for the clarity and brightness of the light flux, these characteristics depend on the color temperature of the particular light bulb. The maximum values ​​are 5000 K.

Lamp manufacturers - the choice of users and experts

As of the beginning of 2022, the following brands of lamps for VAZ 2110 headlights are available on the Russian market (in descending order of quality and cost):

Philips X-treme Vision +130% - the luminous flux, according to the manufacturer, is increased by 30%, there is a so-called xenon imitation. Price - from 800 to 1000 rubles.
OSRAM Nightbreaker UNLIMITED + 110% - this lamp has a luminous flux increased by 10%, its cost is about 900 rubles.
OSRAM ULTRA LIFE - lamps are characterized by durability and a price from 500 to 650 rubles.
Beacon H1 12V 55W Super Light +50% - the manufacturer positions its products as an affordable product for a wide range of car enthusiasts. The luminous flux is sufficient. The cost ranges from 250 to 350 rubles.

LED

Along with xenon and halogen ones, there are also LED lamps on sale for the VAZ-2110 (including low beam H1). The main advantage is that they are bright. They shine better than xenon. Motorists also note their high service life - it ranges from 5 to 10 thousand hours. For example, a good halogen lamp will burn no more than 500 hours, and a xenon lamp can work up to 2500 hours.


LEDs also have low energy consumption. The indicator does not exceed 3.5 W, while a halogen lamp requires 55 W. Xenon consumption is 35. Using LEDs, craftsmen create so-called adaptive headlights, which is, in principle, impossible with halogen lamps, and when using xenon it will be very difficult and expensive. Another advantage of LEDs is their emission, which is close to natural light.

There are also disadvantages, but they are few. High-quality LED low beam lamps VAZ-2110 are quite expensive, and those that are inexpensive are not distinguished by high quality and service life. There are a lot of Chinese products on the market that are not of very high quality. LEDs are not serviceable. If they fail, then the entire lamp assembly must be replaced. The design of the product is quite complex, and during operation it gets very hot.

But experts say that an LED lamp is of little use. Do not be fooled by advertising that talks about super-brightness. Laboratory tests show that a VAZ-2110 low-beam lamp (H1 or H4 base), installed in a headlight that is not equipped with an adaptive system, illuminates even worse than a halogen one.


The power of the diode product is 30 W. The luminous flux is 3600 K, and the service life is on average five years. The price starts from four thousand rubles per pair. The lower the power of the product, the worse the lighting quality will be. Experts do not recommend installing inexpensive products (Chinese low beam lamp H4 and H1). The light from the diodes is bright, but it does not illuminate as well as its analogues.

Lighting replacement technique

If you have already decided which lamps you plan to install on the headlights of your VAZ, you need to replace them. If you are going to do it yourself, the easiest way to install new lighting in the headlights will be relevant for you.

To do this, follow several steps:

  • Dismantle the rear casing (box), which is located on the headlight unit of the car.
  • Disconnect the wires from the terminal block under the housing cover.
  • Remove the spring that secures the bulb to the headlight unit.
  • Rotate the holder of the lighting product and pull it out of the headlamp.

After this, you can make a replacement in the lighting system, following the reverse algorithm.

In some situations, it is not necessary to replace the lamp on a car - the contacts in the lighting system may oxidize. Some car enthusiasts do not know that in certain cases, when the light is not on, the wiring connections in the blocks come loose. And sometimes the reason for the deterioration of surface illumination can be a banal fogging of the light diffuser due to a violation of the tightness. Replacement of equipment is not necessary - it is enough to repair or wipe the components of the light system.

About choosing LED products

The choice of truly high-quality LED lamps on the modern market is small. These are all the same brands that produce halogen lamps:

  • Philips.
  • Osram.
  • Narva.

There are also domestic ones.


Experts conducted a series of independent tests, during which they managed to create a certain rating. During the tests, all parameters were checked. Thus, the best performance is found in Osram and Philips products. This is a completely expected result. In second place are domestic products. But when installing LED lamps, it is necessary to consider whether the optics are designed for such a product. If the headlight is made to work with halogen types, then all the advantages that the lamp has will come to naught. It makes sense to buy the same halogen, but with higher performance.

How to adjust headlights

Adjusting the headlights after changing lamps, if necessary, is best done by a professional service center. However, if someone does not have such an immediate opportunity, then an approximate adjustment of the optics can be done with your own hands, following the instructions:

  1. Place the machine perpendicular to a flat, light wall on a level place five meters away.
  2. Turn off all additional light sources, except for the low-beam headlights - side and running lights.
  3. Place an assistant in the driver's seat or place ballast weighing 70-80 kg there.
  4. If the beam of light from a headlight with a replacement bulb does not coincide with the other, you need to use the adjustment screws on the optics housing and adjust the lighting.

How can you improve your headlights yourself?

Only after the luminous flux has been adjusted can you, with simple modifications, independently improve the illumination of the headlights on your car. Initially, the headlight is removed, and the improvement is carried out in the following sequence:

  • The protective glass is removed. To make it easier to remove the protection, it is recommended to heat the glass using a regular hair dryer. A warm air flow will heat the sealant, after which the panel can be easily separated from the headlight using a sharp knife;
  • the reflective pad is carefully removed;
  • Using the appropriate tool, you need to move the lens approximately 15 mm towards the reflector or slightly shorten the modular ring on a lathe.

Such actions will help not only improve the light of the headlights, but also increase the luminous flux and even make it several times wider. Both adjusting the headlights and improving the luminous flux, as you can see, is a fairly simple process that every car owner can do.

Headlights need to be adjusted not so much for good illumination, but so that the luminous flux does not cause discomfort to oncoming drivers, in other words, does not blind them, especially at night. Both low and high beams are adjusted in a car service center, under the supervision of experts. If you have, albeit small, unfortunately, the ability to repair cars, you can actually perform this process independently in your garage, performing it step by step:

  1. Checking serviceability. First you need to check whether the car headlight range control is working properly. What exists is that this mechanism plays an important role, one might say, in lighting. In order for the light flux to be adjusted correctly, you should make sure that it is in good working order and is functioning normally.
  2. Choosing the right site. The headlights are adjusted on a completely level area. Having chosen a suitable place, you should check how even it is using a special level; if there is no skew, you can safely park the car on the site.
  3. Having measured approximately 6 meters from the car, it is necessary to free up space on the wall in order to use it for a typical screen where you can make notes with ordinary chalk.
  4. Of course, the headlights can be adjusted correctly only in such a situation if the car’s tank is filled, the tire pressure is normal, and a person in the same weight category as the driver sits in the driver’s seat.

Suggested options

As mentioned above, for car owners of the “dozen” the market offers only two options for headlights - domestically produced Kirzhach and original Bosch VAZ 2110 headlights. Of course, most consumers prefer German-made products, especially considering that their cost is lower than Russian optics ( author - channel Aleks B).

Which headlights are better?

Before removing and installing new optics, let's figure out which manufacturer to give preference to. Despite the fact that German-made products have always been famous for their quality, in reality, domestic experts recommend installing Kirzhach flashlights on the “tens”.

Let's see why this is so:

  1. It is clear that the purpose of the lights is to provide better visibility of the road surface when driving at night, while they should not blind oncoming drivers. These functions are performed normally by both Kirzhach and Bosch devices.
  2. Russian-made flashlights have a lens for near lighting and a reflector for distant lighting. As for German-made lanterns, they are equipped with two reflectors. The level of illumination of the road surface is generally identical in both cases, but the Bosch ones shine an order of magnitude brighter.
  3. In any case, lenses are better than reflectors because they provide a clearer line of light. In addition, their operation allows the use of xenon.
  4. Judging by the reviews of our compatriots, Bosch flashlights have poorer illumination, in particular in low beam conditions.
  5. German-made devices have an important feature - the road surface is illuminated much better in cloudy weather and rain, unlike Kirzhach. This is ensured by the fact that their design uses a larger reflector. However, due to this same feature, installing xenon in Bosch will be impossible.
