The appearance of such a new product has caused many drivers to want to install a push-button engine start on their old cars. Therefore, it would be quite appropriate to consider how the ignition and engine starting system can be redesigned in accordance with new trends.

What do you need to start the engine using the alarm key fob? channel

Let's start with what we need to build this miracle:
  1. Alarm with feedback and two additional buttons on the key fob (such as opening the trunk and panic mode).
  2. Four pieces of four contact relays (can be bought at any car store costing 60 to 85 rubles).
  3. Four blocks for those same relays (from 25 to 35 rubles).
  4. Electrical tape, soldering iron, connection diagram and of course desire.

Now, as much as I can describe in detail, I’ll chew on what and how I did:

  • – the first thing to do is cut off the central yellow wire from the pads, because the relay has only 4 contacts, and there are 5 in the block. And the extra wires will only get in the way and confuse.
  • – we fasten 4 pads with electrical tape in a row so that they do not dangle when soldering.
  • – we cut the wires of the pads (personally, I shortened them by 2/3) to make it easier to solder and make the launch unit more compact.

Now in great detail about installing autorun.

First, I eradicated the yellow (located in the center) wire from the purchased pads. We don't need him at all. It turned out that there is now an equal number of wires on the relay and on the blocks.

Secondly, I wound 4 pads one after another with insulating tape, so they can be cleverly soldered.

Thirdly, the wires of the pads were reduced by 60%, again, soldering is very convenient, and the appearance of the device has become prettier.

The principle of operation of automatic car start through an additional alarm channel

In my case, I use a Tomahawk 7000 type feedback car alarm, which has two additional channels that can be activated from the key fob.
  1. The first channel is opening the trunk (unfortunately you will have to sacrifice it) or if you are smart enough, connect the first channel to any combination of key fob buttons, which will create an electrical circuit for a second (or more) in the alarm unit.
  2. The second channel, which I personally had free, is written in the instructions, connect to it whatever your heart desires.

It is worth remembering that the alarm does not supply voltage to the relay, but only closes the relay to the body (i.e. turns on the minus).

We connect the outermost relay 2 (sorry, I didn’t notice all the relays and called it relay 2) to the handbrake limit switch; it is most convenient to connect it to a block suitable for the instrument cluster. This outermost relay 2 is designed to prevent the middle two relays from turning off after the first alarm channel opens again (I have not seen an alarm holding the circuit closed for more than 3 seconds).

Operating instructions for automatic engine start

Running from home:

  1. We disarm the car.
  2. We start the first additional fuel pump. channel (do not confuse it with the starter).
  3. We close the doors.
  4. We start the engine (my second additional channel works for 3 seconds, this is enough for the engine to catch and start, but on many alarm systems it is programmed, up to 12 seconds, and they are certainly enough to start, in extreme cases, press a second time)
  5. When you approach the car, you open the locks using the key fob.
  6. Without the handbrake raised, the car will not start, as soon as you get into the car, and remove the handbrake, the car will stall, do not be alarmed, this is a trap for careless car thieves. Before removing it from the handbrake, insert the key and turn it one notch, then remove it from the handbrake.

If you already started the car, but changed your mind about driving, you still have to go down to the car and turn it off by removing the handbrake. You can, of course, install another relay, but I don’t have this in my review, but there’s nothing complicated there. If you don’t have an alarm system, then you can use a GSM module instead and start the car by calling from your phone, but this is more complicated, and such photo reports already exist.
