Do-it-yourself reset of average fuel consumption on Lada Vesta

On VAZ cars with a distributed fuel injection system, on-board computers are used that allow information from the memory of the engine control unit to be displayed on the display in the instrument cluster. The manufacturer provides a function for deleting part of the data (for example, about the current trip). Information on how to reset the average consumption on Vesta is given in the operating instructions, but many drivers encounter problems when deleting data.

Lada Vesta

On-board computer on Lada Vesta

The car is equipped with an on-board computer that displays the following information on the display at the bottom of the speedometer dial:

  • Vesta has an on-board computer.
    total mileage (not adjusted by standard methods);

  • mileage between refills (can be reset by the driver at will);
  • time in 24-hour format (set manually, reset when battery is disconnected);
  • duration of the last trip;
  • average speed;
  • gasoline consumption (long-term, from the moment you start driving and instantaneous);
  • the amount of fuel consumed during the trip;
  • predicted power reserve (calculated based on data stored in the memory of the control unit);
  • air temperature;
  • voltage in the on-board network;
  • Recommendation for shifting speed up or down (manual transmission only).

To control functions, buttons located on the left steering column switch are used. Short-term presses are supported (the display changes after the force is removed from the button) and long-term presses (the computer is triggered after the programmed time interval has expired).

When setting parameters (for example, current time), the number being changed is displayed in yellow.

Changing the sound of the turn signals

The factory provides settings for the volume and tone of the direction indicators (it does not work on the instrument cluster), however, the car’s operating manual does not say anything about this possibility.

Procedure

:

  1. We enter the settings menu by pressing and holding both keys of the on-board computer for about 5 seconds.
  2. The SOUND menu appears.
  3. Setting “p1” - the volume of the sound of the turn signal turning on
  4. Setting “p2” is the volume of the switch off.
  5. Setting “d1” is the key that turns on.
  6. Setting “d2” is the tone of the switch off.
  7. Switching between settings is a short press of two keys.
  8. To exit the menu, press and hold two keys for about 5 seconds.

The easiest way to set up is with the emergency lights on.

  4. Press and hold the top switch at the end of the lever for 2 seconds to delete the information.
  5. Briefly press the bottom button to exit to the standard screen. There will be dashes in the average fuel consumption field (after you start driving, information about gasoline consumption will be displayed). At the same time, information about the amount of fuel consumed during trips will be reset.

Additional functions

On-board computer The BC has a secret menu with which you can adjust the sound of the turn signal clicks. To do this, you need to hold down both buttons at the same time. We get to the additional menu.

We turn on the hazard warning lights and adjust the click sound using the up and down buttons. By briefly pressing both buttons, you can change the tone of the clicks.

Why do you need to reset the indicator?

The need to reset the flow meter arises in the following situations:

  • for testing the condition of fuel supply and exhaust gas afterburning systems;
  • to check the correct operation of the filling equipment at the dispenser (by comparing the volumes of filled and consumed gasoline).

It should be taken into account that at the moment you start driving, information about the average consumption will be up to 30 liters per 100 km. As the mileage increases, the value decreases (the parameter depends on the operating conditions of the vehicle and additional equipment).

For example, when the air conditioner is turned on, the fuel consumption of Lada Vesta engines increases by 1-1.5 liters for every 100 km of travel.

What is the fuel consumption: table with different engines

Lada Vesta cars use in-line 4-cylinder engines with 16-valve gas distribution mechanisms of the following models:

ModelCylinder displacement, cm³Power, l. With.
VAZ-211291596106
VAZ-211791774122
VAZ-21179 sport1774145
Nissan-Renault H4M1598113

The engines are designed to use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 92 or more (for Nissan-Renault products, it is recommended to use A-95 fuel). Fuel consumption depends on the volume of the cylinders and the type of transmission (mechanical or robotic). The imported engine is designed for installation of a Jatco V-belt variator.

In small batches, the plant assembles cars with engines operating at a compressed pressure of up to 240-250 atm. natural gas (CNG system). In 2015, the 110-horsepower Nissan-Renault HR16 engine was installed on cars to a limited extent.

Real reviews

Owners are faced with the problem of increased gasoline consumption (both during the break-in process and during further operation of the car). The reasons for the discrepancies are different road conditions (the plant receives data on the test track), as well as differences in the qualifications of the testers and the average driver. In addition, before conducting certification tests, the company sets tire pressure and fills the tank with high-quality gasoline.

Konstantin, 32 years old, Tula

I purchased a Lada Vesta car with a 122-horsepower engine and a robotic transmission in the fall of 2022. During the run-in period in urban conditions, the engine burned up to 13 liters per 100 km, outside the city the parameter dropped to 8-9 liters (measurements were carried out using the on-board computer and checks with gas station). The initial maintenance was carried out at a mileage of 2 thousand km, but consumption began to decrease only after 6 thousand km. In the city, with the air conditioning on, it is possible to keep within 10 liters; on the highway at speeds of up to 100 km/h, the engine requires no more than 6.5 liters per 100 km.

Dmitry, 28 years old, Ryazan

I am the owner of a Vesta sedan with a 1.6-liter engine. The car was purchased 2 years ago, the mileage is 45 thousand km. Average fuel consumption is 8.2 liters (the meter has not been reset for 6 months), the car is used 70% of the time in the city. I fill up with A-95 gasoline at the 1st pump (the car is used as a work car, I submit receipts to the accounting department). During operation, there were no problems with sensors, ignition coils or catalytic converter (once, with a mileage of about 20 thousand km, the Check Engine light briefly blinked).

Reviews

11.Semyon , 35 years old (autobann.su): in three years of using the car, I have never contacted a service station, except for scheduled maintenance. The car is assembled well, there are no comments.
Negative
12.Dmitry Nikiforovich , 44 years old (www.zr.ru): the tidy began to fail after winter, apparently a failure occurred at the software level. I will contact the warranty officials.
13.Leonid Makarovich , 47 years old (otzovik.com): for a long time I could not reset the indicators, as it turned out, the problem was in the program code.
14.Stepanovich , 46 years old (autobann.su): I don’t like the dashboard, it’s not very informative, the font is small. Renault Logan of the second generation has a much better implementation.

Does fuel affect consumption?

Vesta engines are designed to use gasoline with an octane rating of 92 units or more. If the requirement is violated, the power of the units is reduced, which negatively affects the service life and efficiency. Engine detonation that occurs during the combustion of a low-octane working mixture destroys rings, valves and cylinder mirrors.

The engine control unit adjusts the ignition timing, but unburned fuel particles enter the catalytic converter and oxygen concentration sensors, disrupting the normal operation of the unit.

How to check the fact of twisting

But no matter how it is. No matter how strange it may sound, Vesta is protected from odometer adjustments better than the “French”. The problem is that inquisitive Russian “twisters” still have not learned to “untie” the dashboard from the ABS unit, while on Logan this is done relatively simply. In order to rewind the mileage on our modern Lada, we have to correct the data in the ECU itself. That is, all checks to determine the real mileage using computer methods then turn into self-deception, because any Vesta that you can’t get into the brain of, the mileage suddenly turns out to be original, although the car shows something completely different.

Burning gasoline during acceleration

When you press the accelerator pedal, the throttle valve opens, supplying additional air to the engine cylinders. Information from the oxidizer mass flow sensor goes to the engine control unit, which increases the fuel supply (to maintain the stoichiometric composition of the working mixture).

... about fuel consumption

The amount of gasoline burned during acceleration depends on the degree of throttle opening (for example, with smooth acceleration, additional fuel costs are reduced).

How to reduce fuel consumption on Lada Vesta

To increase the efficiency of the power unit on the Lada Vesta you need to:

  • gradually pick up speed and release the gas in advance before traffic lights, using engine braking mode;
  • in suburban mode, drive at speeds up to 100 km/h;
  • change speeds in a timely manner, guided by the hint system;
  • refuel your car at large stations;
  • Do not operate the vehicle with luggage bars permanently installed;
  • do not install additional elements that impair aerodynamics (for example, deflectors above the side windows);
  • maintain correct tire pressure (in accordance with factory recommendations);
  • Periodically check the operation of the brake mechanisms and the condition of the wheel ball bearings.

The control units used on the machine support the sensor diagnostic mode. If a malfunction is detected in the instrument cluster, the orange Check Engine indicator light turns on. Faulty components lead to increased gasoline consumption and damage to parts (for example, if the ignition coil breaks, fuel enters the converter, causing the unit to fail). The owner needs to conduct computer diagnostics. Deciphered error codes allow you to find damaged sensors in fuel injection and exhaust gas emission systems.
