The process of replacing a filter on a VAZ
If you set out to replace the MF yourself, then take into account the information below.
First, prepare an oil scraper wrench or a regular screwdriver. Such a tool may be needed in cases where the filter sticks to the thread and is difficult to dismantle.
Step by step filter replacement process:
- Before starting work on replacing the MF, you need to put the car on a pit (overpass). The first step is draining the engine fluid. Make sure the car is warmed up. In the opposite situation, not all the liquid may come out of the engine. When cold, the consistency of the oil is more viscous.
- Take the container and crawl under the bottom of the car. Using a wrench, unscrew the drain plug. During this procedure, keep the container under the hole to prevent liquid from spilling on you. During the draining process, wait a moment for all the oil to drain out of the engine. Ideally it will take 30 minutes. In this case, we can assume that the consumables were drained efficiently. Once this procedure is complete, screw the bolt back into the hole.
- To replace the filter, you need to dismantle the old element. This can be done both from the hood and from the bottom of the car. If there is a special key, use it. Otherwise, a regular screwdriver will do. Punch the filter and use it as a lever to remove the element. You need to scroll the MF counterclockwise. To avoid damage to the vehicle motor fitting, punch the filter closer to the bottom of the element.
- After successfully dismantling the old part, you can begin installing a new filter. Pour some oil into it - about half the volume. Lubricate the sealing rubber around the threads in the hole. This is necessary so that during the operation of the new filter it does not stick to the motor threads under the influence of high temperature.
- Screw the element. Do not overdo it. You don't need to use a key. The twist force should be moderate.
- The final step will be adding new oil. Unscrew the engine oil cap and fill in as much engine fluid as specified by the car manufacturer. Check the level of consumables on the dipstick so as not to overfill. Ideally, the oil indicator will be between min/max. Before the next check, wait a couple of minutes for the oil to drain into the crankcase. When the level is normal, drive the car and check the fluid level again after an hour. In addition, make sure that the oil filter is not leaking.
