One of the features of expensive cars is the presence of an engine start/stop button instead of the usual ignition key. AVTOVAZ does not yet provide the “Start the engine with a button” option, but any owner of a Lada car can modify the design with their own hands.
Below are two diagrams for connecting the start/stop button:
- Installation of a ready-made kit with a button, control unit and wires (price about $35), see the Aliexpress catalog;
- Self-production of one of the most popular circuits based on automotive relays (costs about $6).
In both cases, the scheme can be implemented on any Lada car (XRAY, Vesta, Largus, Granta, Kalina, Priora or Niva 4x4), including foreign cars. The button is installed in place of the ignition switch.
The ignition switch can be:
- put away;
- leave. Connect the start/stop button to the ignition switch connector (allows you to return to the key-start scheme within 10 minutes), and to prevent the steering wheel from being blocked, leave the key cut off and turned in it.

What are the pros and cons of installing it in a car?
What are the benefits of using a button?
- A light press is enough to start the engine.
- You no longer need to carry the ignition key with you.
- The button can be installed anywhere, including right at hand, which increases ease of use.
- A number of options are combined with car alarms, immobilizers and other security systems.
- You can lock the car by simply pressing a button on the door, without having to set it to the alarm - this saves time if you leave the car for a short time.
If you do not have basic electrical skills, it is better to seek services from a service station
Are there any disadvantages? Alas, yes.
- To start the car, you need to sit in it and press the brake pedal. Out of habit, many drivers forget about this.
- There may be difficulties when installing an alarm with heating. So, you will need at least two keychains - one of them must be given to the masters. They will disassemble it, take out the chip and install it in the car. Power will only be supplied at startup.
- Installing an alarm on a car with a button usually costs more.
Installing the engine start/stop button (ready kit)
The easiest option to start the engine with a button is to buy a kit, which in a Chinese store is called something like this: “push start button start/stop car engine function working with car alarm system and remote central lock blue color back light.” Judging by the name of the product, the button and control unit can be connected to the alarm.
The most popular among car enthusiasts is the scheme where the engine starts with a button while the brake pedal is pressed. All presses are short, that is, you do not need to hold it for the starter to operate. This is exactly the algorithm we get:
- One press - ACC mode;
- second press - ignition is on;
- third press - ignition is turned off;
- To start the engine, you need to press the brake pedal and briefly press the start/stop button (if it doesn’t start well, you can press and hold the button, then the starter will work).

Now you can only carry the alarm key fob in your pocket.
Engine starting system with a button, options for its implementation
It should be noted right away that there are quite a lot of options for connecting the button. This is due to the fact that such a system can be built taking into account a wide variety of initial conditions. As an example, below are some options for how to install such an element, possible operation algorithms of the Start-Stop Engine and the components used. Which one to choose is up to you. If the level of knowledge of electronics and circuits is high enough, you can make your own based on any of the options, you just need to understand the principle.

How the ignition system works:
These are just some of the possible options and algorithms that allow you to start the engine without a key in the car lock.

Required:
- Non-latching start/stop button (sold separately on the Chinese market for $5);
- 4-pin relay with normally open contact (3 pcs);
- 5-pin relay with normally closed contact (1 pc);
- Rear fog lamp relay (ZPTF), catalog number 2114-3747 (23.3777);
- Wires and terminals.
Description of connections to the ZPTF relay (wire colors are indicated for VAZ 21214 (Niva)):
- Relay working contact (+) - connect +12V from the battery (brown color in the ignition switch block).
- The permission signal (+) is also +12V from the battery, because There is a jumper between pins 1 and 2.
- General (-) - mass.
- Relay operating contact (load) - +12V is connected when the ignition is turned on (blue wire in the ignition switch block).
- Control signal (-) - connect the start/stop button.
- Permissive signal (+) - empty.
General connection diagram for the start/stop button:
There will be three connection points :
- Ignition switch block (pin 15 - +12V after ignition, pin 30 - +12V from the battery);
- To the brake pedal end;
- To the starter control (interlock) wire so that the starter does not operate after the engine starts. You can find a suitable contact in the engine compartment (for Niva it is a black-red wire), or connect to the oil pressure lamp or battery lamp.
If you use an alarm system , you can add another 5-pin relay to the circuit, which will block the button when arming the car:
What do you think, should we abandon the usual ignition switch with a key in favor of a button? Which version of this tuning suits you best? Let us remind you that the article presents only two connection diagrams; in fact, there are many more. By the way, do you know how to automatically open the trunk on a Grant?
Stories from our readers
“Fucking basin. "
Hi all! My name is Mikhail, now I’ll tell you a story about how I managed to exchange my two-wheeler for a 2010 Camry. It all started with the fact that I began to be wildly irritated by the breakdowns of the two-wheeler, it seemed like nothing serious was broken, but damn it, there were so many little things that really started to irritate me. This is where the idea arose that it was time to change the car to a foreign car. The choice fell on the melting Camry of the tenth years.
Yes, I had matured morally, but financially I just couldn’t handle it. I’ll say right away that I am against loans and taking a car, especially not a new one, on credit is unreasonable. My salary is 24k a month, so collecting 600-700 thousand is almost impossible for me. I started looking for different ways to make money on the Internet. You can’t imagine how many scams there are, what I haven’t tried: sports betting, network marketing, and even the volcano casino, where I successfully lost about 10 thousand ((The only direction in which it seemed to me that I could make money was currency trading on the stock exchange, they call it Forex. But when I started delving into it, I realized that it was very difficult for me. I continued to dig further and came across binary options. The essence is the same as in Forex, but it’s much easier to understand. I started reading forums, studying trading strategies. I tried it on a demo account, then opened a real account. To be honest, I didn’t manage to start earning money right away, until I understood all the mechanics of options, I lost about 3,000 rubles, but as it turned out, it was a precious experience. Now I earn 5-7 thousand rubles a day. I managed to get the car buy after half a year, but in my opinion this is a good result, and it’s not about the car, my life has changed, I naturally quit my job, I have more free time for myself and my family. You’ll laugh, but I work directly on the phone)) If If you want to change your life like me, then here’s what I advise you to do right now: 1. Register on the site 2. Practice on a Demo account (it’s free). 3. As soon as you get something on the Demo account, top up your REAL ACCOUNT and go to REAL MONEY! I also advise you to download the application to your phone, it’s much more convenient to work from your phone. Download here.
However, you may still need the ignition key when the door locks freeze in winter after washing.
How to start the engine using a button? Let me say right away that there are a lot of options (schemes) for installing a button to start the engine. There are many of them because there are many nuances:
About the ignition key:
- The key is used to start the engine via a button (insert the key, turn it - the ignition turns on, press the button - the engine starts)
- The key to start the engine through the button is not used (sat down - pressed the button - the engine started)
About the engine start button:
- The button to start the internal combustion engine must be pressed and held (the starter turns while the button is pressed)
- The button to start the internal combustion engine must be briefly pressed (press the button and release - the starter itself rotates for a certain time until the engine starts)
About ignition:
- Using the button, you can separately turn on the ignition (press the button - the ignition is turned on, press the button and the brake pedal - start the engine)
- You cannot turn on the ignition separately using the button (the ignition is turned on together with the starter)
By combining different options, we will get different schemes each time, and these schemes can be compiled in different ways. I will try to show the main points of connecting the Start/Stop Engine button , from the simplest to the most complex.
A simple scheme for starting an engine using a button can be assembled by an ordinary car enthusiast who is not good at electrical engineering. To make a complex circuit with a start delay, timer, etc. It will require the experience of an electrician and a lot of relays, which makes the design not entirely correct. Complex operating algorithms are, of course, better assembled on a microcontroller, but first things first:
Starting the engine with a button (with ignition key)
When assembling any of the circuits presented below, you must use wires with the same cross-section that is used in the ignition switch.
We must not forget that the VAZ is a simple car, so the solution to the problem should be as simple as possible. This method of making a button to start an engine with your own hands is, in my opinion, the easiest.
Work algorithm:
- Without a key the button does not work
- The key must be inserted and turned to position 1.
- Press the button (hold) until the engine starts (the button does not lock).
- Turn the key to position 0 and turn off the engine.
The button does not work when the engine is running, that is, the starter does not spin, but starts working after the engine is turned off and the ignition is turned on with the key. In simpler language: We take the ignition relay from a VAZ 2109 with a block of wires. (4 wires in total, 2 high-current circuits (yellow contacts on the relay itself) and 2 low-current circuits (white contacts). We throw one of the wires of the high-current circuit onto pin 15 of the ignition switch, and the second into pin 30 of the same lock (in general, one pink , and the second is red). We throw one of the wires of the low-current circuit to the “-” ground, and the second to the green wire on it “+” appears when the ignition is turned on (done so that without a key the starter does not work by pressing the button) and we interrupt the wire from relay to the green wire with our button! Video of starting the engine with a button (you need to hold the button):
The disadvantage of the circuit and at the same time an undoubted advantage is its simplicity (the simpler, the more reliable). Another example of starting an internal combustion engine through a button on a VAZ 2110-12:
Disadvantage of the 2nd circuit : a slight delay in turning off the starter after starting the engine (if the relay is turned off not by a command from the generator, but from the signal wire of the injector unit, which gives this delay.) Whether this affects the durability of the starter is unknown.
Button to start the engine (with ZPTF relay)
Unlike the previous method, in this scheme you can get rid of the ignition key.
The circuit uses a ZPTF relay (rear fog lamp relay), which is sometimes difficult to find on sale (nos. 21.3777 and 22.3777). Relay 2114-3747610 does not fit. Therefore, the ZPTF relay can be assembled independently.
You need a thick wire with a terminal connected to the pink one. Yes, and there are also thin wires: we insulate the red and blue ones with a stripe, and we throw the gray one on the ignition or connect it to the red one, otherwise the BSK will not work. Any diode will do.
It is convenient to connect the button illumination and the relay power not to the battery, but to the alarm system: if you disarm the system, the engine start button lights up, that is, you can start it.
Work algorithm:
- We disarm the car - +12V appears on pin 1 of the ZPTFI relay and the button (the button backlight turns on)
- We press and hold the button - the ZPTF relay, the ignition relay and the starter relay turn on, the warning light in the button lights up and the starter spins (the button is not fixed). That is, both the ignition and starter are turned on at the same time.
- After starting the engine, release the button - the starter relay turns off, and the ignition remains on.
- I arrived at the place, pressed the button - the engine stalled.
- I set it to alarm - 12V disappeared and the button went out.
If the engine stalls, press the button - the ignition will turn off, press the button a second time - the engine starts.
The entire circuit assembly and installation in the car took approximately 5 hours. (with a trip to the store for parts. The price of the parts is about 400 rubles.
Example, starting the engine from a button according to the circuit with the ZPTF relay (the ignition key remains). If you decide to get rid of the ignition key, then you need to remember to disable the mechanical part of the steering wheel lock (so that the steering wheel does not accidentally jam on the road).
The disadvantage of the circuit is that it is impossible to separately turn on the ignition without starting the starter.
Start/Stop Engine button (start with the pedal pressed)
We took the circuit with the ZPTF relay as a basis and modified it . To separately turn on the ignition without a starter, you can use the button. That is, use a “service” button with a fixation, which we connect to contacts 87 and 86 of the ignition relay. She can turn on the ignition. But it is worth considering that while the button is on, pressing the start/stop button will turn on the starter, so you need to be careful with it.
It would be more correct to turn on the ignition separately via the pedal . That is, by pressing the Start Engine button without a pedal, you simply turn the ignition on/off. To start the engine, the pedal must be pressed.
Which pedal should I choose for the engine start button? In general, the brake pedal to turn on the ignition via a button is used in foreign cars with automatic transmission, and for a manual transmission it is customary to use the clutch. But on the VAZ 2110, the brake pedal is often chosen for this function, because it already has a sensor. (in my opinion, this is not entirely correct, because if the car stalls while driving, you will have to press the brake to start the car) As an option, you can also use the handbrake rather than the pedal, because it also has a limit switch.
Start the engine from a button through the brake pedal: You need to connect 86 starter relays to the brake lights, or use a relay (whichever is more convenient)
Start the engine with a button through the clutch pedal: Because The clutch pedal does not have its own sensor, then it needs to be installed (so that the contacts are connected when the pedal is pressed). Decide for yourself which sensor to install: If the sensor is installed in the “plus” gap, then the connection is similar to the brake pedal. If you installed a simple limit switch (that is, in the ground gap), then you will have to install another relay and connect 86 to the positive, 85 to the clutch limit switch, 30 and 87 in the wire gap to contact 85 or 86 of the starter relay. But you can do it simpler: connect the pedal end switch to the ground of the Start/Stop button, that is, to start and stop the engine you will need to press the clutch pedal. But without pressing the pedal, you can press the button as much as you like, and nothing will happen.
Algorithm of operation: Everything is the same as in the scheme with ZPTF, only now when you normally press the engine start button, only the ignition will be turned on (it turns on the PTF relay). After this, we depress the pedal (thereby turning on the 5-pin relay) and press the engine start button (thereby turning on the starter)
Is there no ignition relay on the VAZ 2110? What difference does it make whether there is an ignition relay or not, you just need to install relays instead of the ignition switch and that’s it. And you also need to connect the gray wire with the blue one (or with the orange one at the block with wires on the BSK), otherwise the BSK will not turn on and beep!
Disadvantage of the circuit: The circuit is not suitable for those who turn off the engine with the pedal (brake or clutch) pressed, because when the ignition is turned off and the brake pedal is pressed, the starter will turn on. The button must be held until the engine starts.
Engine Start/Stop button (delayed)
The scheme according to which the starter will spin for a certain time until the engine starts: Method 1:
Option 1 is a fixed button option, a regular button directly supplies power to the system. Option 2 - with a ZPTF relay, the button is not fixed, always returns to its original position after pressing. K1 - starter relay winding, K2 - ignition relay winding. “To the generator” - to the charge lamp.
When the device is de-energized, the relays are turned off, capacitor C1 is discharged. After power is applied, the ignition relay K2 is immediately turned on. At the same time, capacitor C1 begins charging through resistor R1. When it is charged enough that the transistor VT1 opens and the starter relay K1 operates.
The delay for turning it on depends on the parameters of the circuit R1C1 . With the standard ratings of the parts indicated in the diagram, it is close to 1 s. Then, after starting the engine, the starter relay K1 will turn off due to the closing of the transistor, because no current will flow to the generator. After the power supply is stopped, both relays are de-energized and capacitor C1 is very quickly discharged through resistor R2 and the emitter junction of transistor VT1 - the device is ready for operation again.
Work algorithm:
- Press and release the button - the ignition is turned on, after a while (set experimentally by selecting the values of R1C1) the starter turns on.
- The charge lamp goes out - the starter turns off.
- If, when the starter rotates, the lamp goes out and the engine does not start, or if the engine suddenly stalls, the starter will turn on and start it again.
- At any stage, pressing the button again can turn off the starter and ignition.
Notes: the starter relay will turn off after the generator begins to produce energy (that is, for example, if the belt breaks while the engine is running, or the generator fails, the starter will turn on) Conclusion: it is best to install the relay to turn off the starter and connect it to the handbrake so that the starter can operate when the charge and handbrake lights are on. Method 2: Circuit only for injection engines using an additional starter relay. We dismantle the ignition switch and bite off all the wires, then proceed according to the scheme:
if a delay to the starter is not needed (i.e. the starter turns immediately after pressing the button), then the circuit with a transistor can not be used.
We assemble the circuit and install the button. We go under the hood to the starter relay, break the signal positive from the ignition switch (thin red wire) and connect it through the relay in a circuit with a transistor (just for break). Next, we cut off the wire to ground from the relay and connect it to the ECU (to the output of the additional starter relay) (on Jan 5.1 this is 38 pin). You can look at the pinouts here, designated as a backup output.
In the diagram, we connect +12 volts - this is a thick orange wire (from the starter relay) and ground to the body or to the 38-pin ECU. whichever you like best. Work algorithm:
- When the button is pressed, the plus to the ignition and plus to the starter are closed (until we turn off the button)
- The delay circuit waits 3.5 seconds and gives a signal to the starter, when the car starts, the ECU turns off the starter relay.
- If the car stalls on its own, the starter relay will turn on again, the ECU will monitor the speed and turn off the starter.
- If you turn off the push-start button, then everything turns off (if the starter turns and turn off the button, the starter will stop turning).
The delay time in the circuit can be adjusted with a capacitor (for example, 500 µF is 1s, 1500 µF is 3.5 s). Continuation of the topic: starting the engine from a PC via the LPT port.
Video of starting the engine using a button (method 2)
Method 3: The circuit is built on the ZPTF and EPKH relays:
Operating algorithm:
- The car is on the handbrake, we press the button and release it - the standard circuit turns on (circuit with ZPTF) and powers the ignition relay, as well as the EPHH unit. Also included are 2 relays K1 and K2, which are self-locking due to relay K1. K2 turns on the starter relay (since the handbrake is raised).
- The starter begins to rotate and as soon as the speed rises to 1100-1200, relays K1 and K2 turn off and then do not turn on. The starter turns off.
- We take off the handbrake and go. (the starter will not turn on while the handbrake is down).
- When we arrive, we don’t touch the handbrake, we just press the button and everything turns off (Relays K1 and K2 do not turn on because the unit is turned off by ground with the handbrake, plus it is de-energized by the ZPTF relay). Then we raise the handbrake.
- If you just need to turn on the ignition, then release the handbrake, it turns off the EPHH ground unit and the starter relay. We press the button and the ignition turns on without the starter (of course, in this case, relays K1 and K2 can turn on by taking the plus from the EPHH Block, but the starter will not turn on, since the handbrake is released).
The relay current consumption when the ignition is on is about 100 mA.
Modification of the EPHH (lower speed): We disassemble the EPHH and replace the capacitance with 0.2 μF (200 nF), then the starter cutoff speed will not be 1600, but already in the region of 900-1000. To prevent the relays from cracking at the start, you need to solder a capacitor of any capacity (0.15 µF, 0.47 µF) in parallel with the EPHH power supply (preferably in the block). Thus, this capacitor will give stability to the operation of the EPHH unit.
The disadvantage of the circuit with EPHH: there are EPHH that cannot be modified (there are no capacitors inside), also in this scheme, to start the motor, the button must be pressed and held for 1-1.5 seconds (so that all the relays have time to turn on).
Video of starting the engine with a button (using ZPTF and EPHH)
Delay relay
Anyone who wants to modify their circuit and add a delay to it between turning on the ignition and starting the starter can use a delay relay (the delay time can be changed using the R parameters)
Scheme for starting an engine from a button on a microcontroller
The easiest and most competent way to start the engine is from a button on the microcontroller , but since... The circuit needs to be flashed, then you can’t do it without an electronics engineer. Assemble the board (size about 3x4cm) and flash it. Then install, for example, in a free compartment of the on-board computer STATE. The connection can be made via an RJ-45 connector.
A “+” signal is given at the input (in the diagram - Brake and Oil), but it is better to connect to the charging indicator, because The pressure light may go out before the engine is fully started. The Brake input is the condition under which the starter engages. Those. simply pressing the button turns on the ignition, and pressing the button together with the brake pedal starts the engine.
There are 2 signals at the output (to the starter and ignition). The circuit does not need to be connected directly to the starter and ignition terminals, but must be connected to the wiring through a 4-pin relay.
Current consumption:
- when idle - 10mA
- when the ignition is on - 50mA
- when the starter is turned on - 80mA
Scheme algorithm:
- Touch the sensor on the button - the ignition is turned on.
- Touch the sensor on the button when the brake pedal is pressed for more than 3 seconds, then the ignition is turned on and after 4 seconds the starter starts
- If the engine does not start and there is no signal at the “Oil” input, then the ignition is turned off.
- To start in winter, we simply hold the sensor to crank the engine, the cranking time is limited by the time the sensor is held, again, if the engine does not start after releasing the sensor, the ignition will turn off.
The button is an ordinary textolite, the surface of which is treated with solder through a stencil.
Regarding the LEDs. they are roughly attached like this

Engine start button with protection
To avoid making the job of car thieves easier after installing the Start Engine button , you can carry out a number of actions that will make it difficult to steal a car (although who needs an old TAZ these days, and who needs it and will carry it away in their arms)
You can start with the most primitive methods of protection against theft - security. The connectors and relays that are responsible for starting the engine can be hidden deep in the dashboard. The wires must be chosen the same color as the standard wiring and wired together with them, etc.
Those who want to get confused can install a combination lock on the ignition with a keypad and change the code, or, instead of the ignition key, make access to start through the Controller (for example, TMK-1990A-M100). You can make the Start/Stop button work only when a security key (similar to a USB token) is inserted.
Everything is for everyone, so choose for yourself what suits you best.

Installing a universal engine start button
How you could assemble and connect a circuit to start an engine from a button is not an easy matter, especially when you want everything to be like that of foreign cars. Therefore, the market offers ready-made versions of buttons for starting the engine - a set of engine start/stop buttons along with a protection unit. These kits are universal and the difference will only be in some connection nuances. To explain more clearly, you can compare this kit with an alarm kit.
Installation example on a VAZ 2114 (ignition switches are the same as on the VAZ 2110):
This set cost the author 10 thousand rubles. along with delivery.
Features of universal kits:
- Turns the starter until it starts (no more than 5 seconds - programmable)
- The immobilizer works perfectly with this system (an immobilizer bypass unit is included in the kit, if desired)
- There will be no steering wheel lock.
- You can turn on the ignition and the starter separately, depending on your needs (for example, through a pedal). You can start the car with one click without unnecessary movements, or you can also (but with two touches) just turn on the ignition.
- There is no need to flash anything. The button has a control unit, which is responsible for such things.
The price of universal engine start buttons varies, depending on the manufacturer and functionality (from approximately 2-8 thousand rubles). buy a Start Engine button in online stores.
Installing a universal engine start button is equivalent to installing an alarm system (from 1800r-6000r).
Buttons come from different manufacturers, as well as in any color: (as they say, any whim for your money):
Universal button Start Engine ET3000 Price: $245. Engine start new button. Made in: Taiwan. Price: 2700 rub. ProSport ignition panel. Price 1400 rub.
An example of universal kits for starting an engine with a button:

Selecting buttons to start the engine
It’s probably stupid to hide the engine start button from a car thief , then why even redo the engine start system? After all, after finalizing the ignition system, the button becomes the main attribute , which should stand out and say with its appearance that this is the navel of the car, without which a trip is not possible!
The button can be installed in any place convenient for you, because the button is not power.
Can be used as a motor start button:
- Buttons for domestic cars (for example, a button for opening the trunk of a VAZ 2110 (without locking))
- Universal buttons (with and without fixation)
- Buttons from foreign cars (for example, BMW 61 31 6949499)
- Modify the button (apply the design yourself)
Conclusion
You can install the Start/Stop Engine button in various ways .
Use a circuit built on a relay or use a microcontroller, or maybe just buy a universal engine start button and don’t bother, decide for yourself. It is important, after you give up the ignition key, not to forget to remove the steering wheel lock and carry out a series of manipulations to protect against theft. After installing the “engine start button”, it is still better to have the ignition key at hand, because no one canceled the locks on the doors

Installing a start-stop button instead of the ignition switch with your own hands
Hi all! The topic of our conversation will be installing the Start Stop button. Lately they have been talking about this more and more often, so I decided to provide some clarity regarding the possibility and feasibility of such a step.
In reality, everyone strives to improve their own comfort and make life easier. There are many examples. Cars are equipped with cruise control so as not to constantly hold the gas pedal. We also connect rear view cameras so that you don’t have to lean over the seat and twist your neck back and forth. And navigators have completely replaced old paper maps.
As for installing a simple button instead of the ignition switch, it is quite convenient, and even fashionable. Similar autostart is provided for many modern cars. But owners of old cars can only install the button with their own hands.
The circuit is not the most complicated, which has caused a real wave of popularity for altering the ignition system. Whether to do this or not, everyone decides for themselves.
How does the button affect anti-theft protection?
In most cases, the presence of the device does not affect the safety of the car in any way. Because the vast majority of modern schemes somehow provide for the use of a key in the car key fob. That is, if an attacker opens the door without the help of the “original” key, the “start/stop” button simply will not start the engine.
Problems can arise when the key fob is excluded from the scheme. This usually happens when the installation of the mechanism is carried out by amateurs. The solution is simple: entrust the installation of the button to professionals.
So what does the start/stop button do? Firstly, comfort, and secondly, saving time. The last point is especially relevant in the modern world, where people are constantly in a hurry to get somewhere. To install a button according to the simplest scheme, no serious knowledge of electrical engineering is required. All a beginner needs is to carefully study the diagram included with each kit and not confuse the colors of the wires.

Installation methods
Nobody significantly limits car owners from installing a button on their car to start the engine with a simple press.
Therefore, more and more often you can meet those who want to install a solution:

The main thing here is to decide whether you really need this button. If yes, then move on to choosing the system itself.
Modern manufacturers of universal buttons allow you to select a mechanism for any machine. Please note that there are various connection schemes. Each of them has its own characteristics.
But a few of the most popular solutions dominate. These are the options that car owners prefer. Let me introduce you to them:
- Button with ignition key. This system will not allow you to start the car without using the ignition key. Therefore, you need to turn the key itself in the lock, and then press the button;
- Keyless. To start the motor, you just need to press the button. An extremely convenient scheme. But here it is important to install it correctly, otherwise the car will be extremely easy to steal;
- Short press. To start, hold the button for up to 2 seconds. The starter rotates and turns off when the engine is running;
- Long press. Allows you to hold a key as long as required. The starter will not stop rotating until the engine starts;
- A circuit where the ignition is activated after a key has been pressed;
- A scheme in which the ignition is activated 1 second earlier than the car starter.
Also, some combine different schemes to achieve the desired result.
If you do not have experience in such work, and also have poor understanding of automotive electrical equipment, you should not take on such work with your own hands.
Contact good workshops. Moscow alone is ready to offer dozens of addresses of car services that offer similar services. The price will be higher, but the result is guaranteed.
How to make such a launch possible
As an example, several options for implementing such an idea are considered below. It is worth considering that when undertaking such a modernization, you need to understand and understand what and how to do, because you carry out all manipulations at your own peril and risk. If during the work you have doubts about the correctness of the actions, you should seek advice from a specialist (auto electrician).
Scheme of starting an engine from a button using a key
There are a significant number of different options for implementing this approach. For example, the diagram below.
And below is a diagram of connecting the relay to the ignition switch
Everything works extremely simply. The key is inserted into the lock and turned. Then the button is pressed and held until the motor starts. To turn off the entire system, simply turn the key to its original position. With this option, all functions of the ignition switch and immobilizer are retained.
Such a scheme is quite simple and primitive; it can be performed by any car enthusiast. There are much more complex implementation options, but their implementation will require the use of additional elements, and a person trained in the field of electronics can do this.
Installing an engine start button without an ignition key
This is a more complex option that allows you to start the engine using a button; this approach uses, for example, RZPTF (rear fog lamp relay). Its activation is shown in the diagram shown in the figure:
An additional advantage will be connecting power to the alarm system. In this case, the operating algorithm will be as follows:
This is one of the possible ways to implement such a launch system. During such a launch, other elements can be used. For example, the engine will start when you press the clutch or brake, everything will be determined by the specified starting algorithm.
The idea of starting the engine using a button instead of a key is possible on any car. In this case, a completely arbitrary algorithm of action can be used. The decision on how to start the engine - with a button or with the ignition key - is a matter of personal choice and the skill of the person who will undertake the modification of the ignition system. » alt=»»>

Installation recommendations
Before starting work, you should take preparatory measures. A lot depends on what kind of machine you are dealing with. Some people remove the car ignition switch itself by installing a simple key in its place. In other situations, a hole is made to size, allowing access to the wiring and allowing connection to the electrical circuit.
To work you will need a set of tools and some materials, consisting of:
- screwdriver;
- wire cutter;
- electrical tape;
- ready button;
- three four-pin relays;
- one five-pin relay;
- one relay from PTF;
- a set of insulated wiring with terminals;
- free time;
- installation instructions.
If you buy a ready-made kit, then you are doing absolutely right. The package includes everything you need, plus a detailed installation manual and the installation diagram itself. It is from this instruction that you need to build on, and not look for some universal guides.
For those who understand the electrical equipment of cars, the diagram below will be a clear example. This is the simplest algorithm that allows you to set keys to start the power plant by simply pressing a button.
If this picture doesn’t tell you anything at all, then taking on such a task is strictly prohibited.
The bottom line is to make three connection points in your car. The first will be located on the ignition block of your car, the second will be placed on the brake pedal limit switch, and the third will be placed on the control wire.
Whether to install such a solution or not, everyone decides for himself. Carefully consider the advisability of changing the engine switching principle on your car. Experience shows that the button is not suitable for everyone. That’s why many people change back Start-Stop to the usual key turned in the ignition switch.
Starter button for VAZ 2110
Hi all! I haven’t written for a long time, because... nothing new happened to the car except as planned. Not long ago, problems began with starting the car, the key to start and silence usually happened when it was hot. The starter with retractor was replaced. The problem went away but returned a week later. The only thing that saved me was a screwdriver. Having driven the car to the point. where I finally changed the cooling system pipes, installed a new thermostat housing for the new model stove pipes
(I just installed the heater radiator for now, installation will come later), air filter corrugation on Priorovskaya
instead of standard foil and decided to deal with the starter. Checking the retractor on the battery showed that it was alive. Shorting the wires near the lock did nothing, which meant there was a problem in the wires. Because I didn’t have time to figure it out, and the plans were to completely replace the wiring, so I decided to install a Start button. For this purpose, a 4-pin 30 A relay with a mount, a block and a VAZ 2110 trunk button was purchased. After reading Drive, I redesigned the button diagram for my version.
The plus was taken from the battery, the mass was passed through the button.
Because The button is 3-contact and 2 contacts are constantly closed, and 2 are closed when pressed. We call and determine which ones. We connect, when you press the button, the starter now turns vigorously.

Start stop button on VAZ 2114: modernizing the ignition system
All cars produced by AvtoVAZ have only one ignition system - by turning the key. At the same time, many global manufacturers are increasingly installing a start button instead, which allows you to start and stop the engine with one click (this option is especially common on high-end cars).
This is why some motorists (especially those who like to tune their car) are wondering whether a start-stop button can be installed on a VAZ 2114? Let us immediately note that you can install a start button on any car. But we’ll tell you how to do it correctly below.
How the Start/Stop button works
Before starting all the work, it is important to understand the fundamental features of the device and understand the intricacies of its operation.
Without going into details, the procedure for activating this system itself consists of sequentially performing the following steps:
- disabling the alarm;
- pressing the brake pedal;
- pressing the treasured button.
The last action involves briefly starting the car starter. In order to turn off the car, you should press the same brake pedal all the way and press the magic button.
Execution of the presented algorithm will lead to the desired result only if a number of certain conditions related to the installation of working units and elements are met.
Such a superficial analysis of the system’s operation, however, does not give the car enthusiast a clear idea of its functional features. For a more thorough acquaintance with the operating features of the device, it would be advisable to study the circuit diagram of its connection, which is attached below.
Pros and cons of the device in the car
According to established tradition, let’s try to find out what positive and negative aspects are hidden in installing a “start-stop” button.
Let's start, perhaps, with the positives. If you believe numerous reviews, there are much more of them than there are minuses.
So, the presence of the presented system allows:
- simplify the engine starting procedure;
- increase comfort;
- improve the car's anti-theft system;
- save time.
If we talk about the negative phenomena associated with the installation of such a device, it is worth noting that they are all rather indirect in nature.
For example, in this case the driver has to get used to an unusual algorithm of actions for a long time. Some difficulties may also arise if the car has an autostart system.
In this case, in order to eliminate the possibility of malfunctions in the operation of the presented device, it becomes necessary to carry out work to reinstall the working module of the key fob. This will require the intervention of specialists and, as a result, unnecessary expenses.
Installation of the start button and its features
Before we start talking about mounting the entire system, it is worth noting that there are two main paths you can take: purchase a ready-made kit and install it, or assemble everything yourself.
The easiest option is the first one. It allows you to install a button even with minimal skills. You can purchase such an engine starting kit in many online stores, but it is best to order directly from China (for example, from Ali - its cost there is about 30-40 dollars). Sometimes similar products are found in car stores, but quite rarely.
Purchasing the cheapest push-button engine start system is not recommended, since it is of poor workmanship and can quickly fail. It is better to choose a product from the middle price category.
You can install the system in two ways - either the car will only have a VAZ 2114 start stop button, or the original ignition with a key will also remain. The first option is much preferable and simpler - the ignition switch is simply removed and the start button is inserted in its place. How to properly connect it to the electronic system is indicated in the instructions supplied with it.
It is for this reason that it is impossible to give any precise recommendations on connection. For each start button it is individual (some of them may have a connection to the alarm system and other electronic systems, and some may not). Therefore, the most important advice is to strictly follow the attached instructions.
When purchasing a coin on Chinese online markets, it is important to carefully study its description and name. It is desirable that it contains the phrases car alarm and centrallock - this will allow you to connect the ignition with the alarm system and central locking.
The newly installed system operates in the following order:
- The first press of the button turns on the power without starting the engine;
- second press - turn on the ignition;
- third - turn off the ignition;
- the first press while simultaneously pressing the brake pedal starts the engine.
Advantages and disadvantages of the device
First, we list the advantages of the “start/stop” mechanism:
- The driver no longer needs to use the ignition key every time he needs to start the engine. All it takes is a simple click;
- you can mount the “start/stop” anywhere. This means the car will become a little more comfortable;
- there are special schemes in which the start/stop button is connected to the immobilizer or alarm system, which is an additional security measure that prevents car theft;
- If the driver leaves the car for a short time, he can lock the car by simply pressing a button on the door. In such situations, there is no particular need to set the car alarm, therefore, there is a slight saving of time.
But there were some downsides too:
- To start the engine, the driver must sit in the car and press the brakes. Getting used to this feature of starting the engine can be difficult, especially for novice car enthusiasts;
- if the driver decides to install an alarm with an auto-start function on a car with a button (to warm up the car in winter, for example), then problems may arise with this, which, fortunately, can be solved. The driver will just need to have a couple of key fobs with him. One of them will have to be given to alarm installers so that they can disassemble it, take out the microcircuit and put it in the car. After this, the current will be supplied only at the moment the engine starts. But for all this, the car owner will have to seriously pay extra to the craftsmen;
- If a button is already installed on the car, but there is no alarm yet, then installing it will cost the driver more, sometimes twice as much.
DIY start button
If you want to save money or just want to make the start button yourself, you can use the following method.
To get started you will need to purchase:
- engine start/stop button - costs about $5;
- four contact relay, normally open;
- relay with five contacts, normally closed;
- relay for fog lights (rear);
- terminals and wires.
First, we connect the fog light relay as follows:
- 1 contact - connect to the “plus” of the battery.
- Contact 2 - we do not connect it anywhere (since it has a jumper with the first contact).
- Contact 3 - connect to ground.
- Contact 4 - connect to the blue wire of the ignition block.
- Contact 5 - connect to the start button.
- 6 pin - do not connect anywhere.
Further installation of the start-stop button on the VAZ 2114 is carried out according to the following scheme:
As you can see, the homemade start/start button has three connection points to the system:
- with brake pedal limit switch;
- with a starter blocking wire that turns it off after the engine starts;
- with ignition block.
The button connected in this way will operate in the following mode: if the engine is turned off and the brake pedal is pressed, the first press starts the engine, and the second turns off the engine. With the brake pedal released and the engine off, the first press turns on the ignition system, and the second press turns it off. When the engine is running, pressing the button turns it off.
Why is this necessary?
The reasons can be very diverse:
- changed (simplified) engine starting process;
- reducing the number of items in pockets;
- the desire to stand out and many others.
It is best to leave aside attempts to figure out why such a desire arises and understand how to install a button to start the engine (in further text it may be referred to as Start-Stop Engine or abbreviated SSE).
Reworking the low beam button
It, like an abrasive, increases the friction force, which creates resistance to glass movement.
Installing PTF provides better illumination of the roadside and side markings, reducing the risk of leaving the road. Some motorists are of the erroneous opinion that fog lights with high lighting efficiency can only be yellow. These grooves tend to become clogged with dirt.
This allowed additional parts to be kept to a minimum and simplified the design.
A well-known situation arises - the blinding of drivers of oncoming vehicles, which increases the risk of an accident. This is due to the geometry of the lifting mechanism. Is this really true?

Manual window lifters
There are 8 clips installed around the entire perimeter of the door. Replacement cost Replacing VAZ window regulators is cheaper than installing electric mechanisms to replace manual ones.
They create fewer electrical problems, but the inconvenience of using them is that while in the driver's seat, it is impossible to open the window on the passenger side without being distracted from driving. The front left window regulator fails faster due to more frequent use.
