Throttle valve for VAZ 2114 - device, repair, replacement

04/04/2013 Throttle valve
Flushing the throttle assembly and valve is not a difficult task. But many car owners do not know how to clean, why and when, and, having little experience in car maintenance, are afraid to climb under the hood and do anything with their own hands.

In this article we will analyze the entire procedure for flushing the throttle assembly, and I hope that the typical car owner will no longer have all the questions about performing this operation.

Where is the throttle valve located?

The entire throttle body is located in the engine compartment. It is located between the “intake manifold” and “air filter” ligament. In other words: air enters the air filter, passes through the mass air flow sensor, enters the throttle assembly, and from there it goes into the engine through the intake manifold (receiver). To find out where the throttle valve is located, pay attention to the figure (number 3).

Throttle valve malfunctions VAZ 2114

The mechanism itself is not a complex structure and is designed for the entire service life of the engine. However, some design features of the motor and a number of external negative factors, over time, create obstacles to its normal operation. In most cases, problems with the damper are the result of simple contamination. The reasons for the appearance may be the following:

  • untimely replacement of the air filter, resulting in the entry of dusty, unpurified air;
  • the presence of defects and cracks in the air system and its elements (for example, a defective air filter, a torn pipe), the result is the same - contamination of the air flow;
  • the appearance of carbon deposits and oil residues on the inner walls of the throttle assembly and valve.

The result of the above reasons is the incorrect operation of the unit; the damper may not fully open or close, which directly negatively affects the operation of the engine.

Although the filtration and air flow purification process can be controlled, it will not be possible to completely get rid of carbon deposits.

Therefore, automakers recommend periodic cleaning of the unit from contamination every 25 thousand kilometers. We believe that this recommendation is completely justified in the conditions of Russian reality, the quality of fuel and the condition of the road surface.

Let's sum it up

Supporters of replacing the remote control with a different diameter argueOpponents of replacing the remote control with a different diameter argue
Replacement increases power and improves engine speed and gas pedal responsivenessWashing or repairing a standard remote control gives similar effects
Does not affect gas mileageAffects gas mileage, as everything is interconnected
Does not create problems in engine operationCreates problems because the ECU cannot correctly adjust the ratio of air and gasoline in the mixture
Problems that arise can be solved with firmwareProblems are solved by flushing
Clearly, all tangible effects are associated with changing the remote control and are enhanced in combination with other improvementsTangible effects are achieved by flushing the unit, and the use of other improvements improves the performance of the engine without replacing the remote control

Here everyone decides for himself, we will not enter into disputes, there are simply different opinions, and we are obliged to warn about the pitfalls and the other side of the coin.

Troubleshooting

Before taking any action, you need to check the VAZ 2114 throttle valve for possible problems.

In order to accurately diagnose a malfunction or incorrect operation of the throttle, there are characteristic signs inherent to it. These are:

  • Instability of engine speed at idle, their unreasonable increase;
  • Periodically stalling engine;
  • Jerking while moving;
  • The discrepancy between the effort when squeezing the gas pedal and the final result (the proper reaction from the engine does not occur, power does not increase, the car does not pick up speed or does it late).
  • Noticeable increase in fuel consumption in standard driving mode.

Please note that problems may be caused by:

  1. The TPS sensor is faulty, resulting in the wrong amount of fuel being supplied to the system.
  2. Malfunction of the idle speed controller.

Therefore, sometimes it is advisable to check these important elements of the system.

Tuning by replacement

The standard valve (throttle assembly) usually has a diameter of 46 millimeters; many fans of various tunings decide to replace this part with an alternative one:

  • VAZ 2112 throttle valve 52 has a larger diameter (there are also valves of 54 and 56 millimeters)
  • Is there any benefit from such tuning?
  • In various online stores they often offer to replace the standard 46 mm throttle body (DU) and install 52, 54 or 56 mm
  • The product description says that an enlarged throttle body (also known as the throttle body) leads to a decrease in air flow speed, which improves the performance of the air intake system
  • The effect of installing an alternative damper will be clearly visible when using a zero-resistance filter in the system
  • We recommend installing a unit with a diameter of 52mm, because... the diameter of its air inlet for a standard receiver is 53mm

The valve is standard (standard) on the left and new (increased flow diameter) on the right

  • In order to install a remote control of a different diameter, as a rule, nothing needs to be modified
  • The maximum necessary action is a small trimming of the gasket (this is most often necessary when installing a 56mm throttle assembly)

The following positive effects are noticed after such an installation:

  • The car becomes more agile
  • Problems with idle speed disappear
  • The gas pedal also becomes more responsive.

Installation disadvantages:

  • Fuel consumption increases, although many believe that the BC gives incorrect readings and consumption does not change
  • Some owners see the effect exclusively on 16-valve engines

The picture we described above may appear completely different:

  • All the positive effect that many people notice when installing a larger diameter remote control usually appears because the old remote control already needed cleaning and naturally the motor was not working correctly
  • After installing a (clean) new remote control, the engine starts working in its normal mode, this seems like a “new breath”
  • In other words, all the described effects appear after regular cleaning of the remote control.
  • And besides this, after replacing the remote control, with a larger diameter you will have new problems with the operation of the motor that did not exist before
  • This is due to a violation of the ratio of gasoline and air, which the ECU is no longer able to correct.
  • And instead of simply returning the remote control to the standard diameter, the owners are recommended to replace the firmware, the price of which is higher, but there is no point
  • There is also an opinion that a remote control with a diameter of 52, 54 or 56 millimeters is a completely useless thing, and only installed in combination with other engine tunings produces a noticeable effect
  • It remains unclear whether this effect is caused by remote control or other modifications to the engine
  • After all, if on a turbo engine with a power of no more than 200 horsepower, standard 46mm dampers are left and their work is quite enough

When is throttle valve flushing necessary?

Dust, dirt, and soot from the crankcase settle on the body from the inside and outside. The unit becomes contaminated, and along with this, characteristic symptoms of malfunctions appear.

It is extremely important to clean the throttle valve on a VAZ-2114 with an electronic pedal, since such a drive is much weaker than a cable. And even a small amount of dirt can disrupt the normal operation of the system.

Symptoms that may indicate that service is required:

  1. Jerking when driving at low speed (the accelerator pedal does not move).
  2. The crankshaft speed is either too high or varies over a wide range.
  3. Unstable engine starting.
  4. The engine stalls immediately after starting.

Similar symptoms are observed in case of malfunctions of the crankshaft sensors, throttle position sensors, and idle speed control. Therefore, before starting cleaning, it is advisable to perform diagnostics, at least with a simple scanner, in order to identify possible breakdowns.

ABOUT THE PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION OF THIS UNIT

Before we begin to consider the operating principle of this device, it should be said that two types of such products are produced. This is a mechanical and electronic throttle. The first type of device is considered obsolete and is used on injection engines of VAZ classics.

The operation of the latter design is carried out through the joint actions of sensors that exchange signals with the on-board computer, and it issues an algorithm for controlling the damper and engine, respectively.

How to clean the throttle valve of a VAZ 2114: two ways

There are two cleaning methods:

  1. Without removing the unit;
  2. And accordingly with its dismantling.

Which method should I choose? It all depends on the degree of pollution. If the mileage has been up to 25 thousand since cleaning or replacing the throttle. Then, most likely, it is possible to limit ourselves to superficial cleaning and prevention without removing the part. In other cases, it is recommended to completely dismantle the unit for deep, thorough processing, cleaning and gaining access to hard-to-reach places.

We will describe in detail the process of complete removal after which the first option will not be difficult to complete. So, let's begin:

The first method of cleaning the throttle valve of a VAZ 2114

  1. To begin, unscrew the cap of the expansion tank with antifreeze. This is necessary in order to “relieve” the pressure and avoid antifreeze leaking out of the hoses.

  2. Next, we need to unscrew and loosen all the clamps that tighten the hoses attached to the throttle block. The same applies to the air pipe. To carry out the work we will need a 13mm wrench or socket.
  3. After removing the clamps, disconnect the hoses themselves. We disconnect the pipe from only one side and, for convenience, move it to the side.

  4. Now remove the throttle cable from the throttle drive selector.

  5. Turn off the power to the sensors.

  6. Take the 13mm head, unscrew the two bolts and remove the throttle assembly. Remove the old gasket.

  7. To treat contamination, you can use carburetor cleaner and a clean rag or rag. If the degree of contamination is very high, then you can use a toothbrush with hard bristles.
  8. Just before cleaning, disconnect the idle air control. Apply the product to the contaminated surface. Using progressive movements, remove carbon deposits from the metal surface. If you are not satisfied with the result, repeat the operation again until complete cleansing. It is very important to clean or blow out the channels that are in the product. A large amount of dirt accumulates there. It is most convenient to carry out purging using compressed air. To do this, you can use a regular car pump.
  9. If the sensor socket and the sensor are clogged, be sure to clean them too.

  10. Do not forget to carefully clean the junction of the throttle assembly and its internal cavity. To do this, apply some cleaning product to a rag. Distribute evenly on the inner walls of the parts. Take a brush and clean the problem areas. After finishing the treatment, wipe the cleaned areas with a damp cloth and remove any remaining dirt.
  11. After washing the unit, it is recommended to clean and blow out the disconnected pipes.
  12. We expect a short amount of time.
  13. We install a new gasket at the junction of the throttle assembly.
  14. We attach and secure the knot in place.
  15. We connect the IAC sensor.
  16. We pull the hoses onto the fittings of the cooling system and connections to the adsorber.
  17. We put on the throttle body pipe.

  18. We fix the cable on the drive.
  19. Tighten the clamps of all attached elements.
  20. We connect the sensor chips.
  21. Close the cap of the expansion tank with coolant.
  22. We start the car and test its operation.

The second method of removing the throttle valve

The non-removal method is somewhat similar to the one we described earlier. The only difference is that we will only remove the air duct pipe and nothing else. The work steps are as follows:

  1. Remove the pipe;
  2. We repeat point number 10 of the previous method.
  3. We connect and secure everything in the reverse order, not forgetting to replace the old gasket with a new one.

Keep in mind that this method is most suitable for preventative, light, superficial cleaning. If malfunctions or incorrect operation of the engine occur, use only the removal method. Now we know how to clean the throttle valve on a VAZ 2114 using two different methods, quickly and without much difficulty.

Flushing the remote control

In this article we will describe two types of DS cleaning:

  1. Surface.
  2. Full.

They differ in the degree of complexity and, accordingly, in quality.

Superficial cleaning

Its essence is that we will not completely disassemble the entire remote control, but will go over the damper with a cloth and remove surface dirt.

For work we will need:

  1. Any cleaning agent: carburetor cleaner, alcohol, thinner, gasoline, wd-40. They differ in the degree of “removability” of dirt.
  2. Rag.
  3. Brush.

First of all, we remove the air filter corrugation from the air filter, take our cleaning agent and spray it inside. We begin to clean the surface with a rag and brush. Also, do not forget to open the damper itself and clean it from the back. At this point the process is completed, we install the filter pipe back, and that’s it. But with this cleaning method, we will not be able to completely clean all the insides of the remote control, blow out all the holes and channels, so it is better to use a complete cleaning.

Complete cleaning of the remote control

To perform a complete cleaning of the damper, in addition to a rag and cleaning agent, we will need:

  1. Flathead, Phillips screwdriver.
  2. DZ gasket (for 1.5 l) and receiver o-ring (for 1.6 l).
  3. Cotton buds.
  4. Socket wrench set to "13".
  5. 2 M13 bolts.

In this case, we need to completely remove the remote control and clean it from all sides.

  1. In order to remove the unit, disconnect the air filter corrugation and remove the coolant pipes. liquid and adsorber.
  2. Disconnect the remote control mount, remove the throttle cable, and remove the remote control. If you need a more detailed description of removing the unit, then read the article: How to remove the remote control, remote control?
  3. Having removed the DZ, we disconnect and clean the IAC sensors (how to clean the IAC), TPS and completely wash the damper on all sides with a cleaner, be sure to blow out all the holes with compressed air.
  4. Then we install everything back, not forgetting to put in a new gasket.

How to clean the throttle valve on a VAZ 2114

The injection VAZ-2114 has 8 valves and 16 valves and has a throttle valve that collects dust and oil particles. Over time, it becomes dirty, which causes engine failure. If there are dirt roads in your area, then in the summer the damper should be cleaned more often, at least twice a season, regardless of mileage. The fact is that the dust that rises when the car moves inevitably settles on this unit. Let's figure out how to clean the throttle valve of a VAZ-2114.

HOW TO CLEAN PROPERLY

The best way to clean it is with VD 40 liquid, which is sold in an aerosol can. You can use other means to flush carburetors. Cleaning is carried out at least twice. Moreover, they are washed a second time no earlier than 15 minutes after the end of the first cleaning.

When flushing the unit, try not to miss the channels. Particular attention should be paid to the channel through which forced ventilation is carried out; in most cases, it is most exposed to contamination.

To install the remote control in its place, perform the same steps, only in reverse order. After installation, you need to test the engine in operation. There is no need to carry out idle adjustment work after installation; they will install themselves during engine operation.

General characteristics

If we consider the throttle assembly as a whole, it will consist of several parts:

  • coolant outlet and supply pipes;
  • ventilation system tube;
  • a sensor that controls the position of the damper;
  • RXX;
  • the damper itself;
  • condensation system pipe.

Knowing the throttle structure and what it looks like is necessary for cleaning. This unit is one of the most important components of the intake system. When the throttle operates correctly, a sufficient amount of air is sent to the engine, which is used to enrich the fuel mixture. The damper is controlled by an electronic gas pedal, which, when pressed, changes the opening angle.

This mechanism is located between the intake manifold and the air filter. Getting to it for preventive cleaning will not be difficult even for someone who has just become a car enthusiast.

To work, you will need to prepare tools and materials for cleaning.

Signs of damper contamination

The car itself may tell you that it’s time to start cleaning the damper. To do this, you need to listen to the engine. A few main signs:

  • when the e-gas pedal is released, the engine speed decreases jerkily;
  • difficulty starting in winter;
  • When starting, a strong smell of gasoline may be felt in the garage;
  • at the beginning of operation, the engine stalls, since not all cylinders start at the same time;
  • the car jerks during acceleration;
  • it is impossible to brake with the engine and coast;
  • when switching to low speeds, the car may stall;
  • When driving at low speeds, shocks are felt.

The appearance of these symptoms is due to the fact that insufficient air enters the engine and the fuel mixture becomes poorly enriched. Due to the design features, combustion product residues accumulate on the damper - unprocessed fuel, soot, drops of oil. Dust and small particles of sand are added to them from the air supply system, which makes the mass very thick. The intervals between preventive cleanings are shortened by poor quality fuel and engine oil.

When the layer of dirt becomes thicker, the damper cannot move smoothly, and its opening angle becomes smaller. Because of this, the amount of air entering the cylinders is reduced and engine power is reduced.

Step-by-step instruction

Before starting work, purchase a special cleaner for carburetors, and also prepare a set of screwdrivers and a 13mm wrench. If you want to get to the hidden places of the damper, then also take cotton swabs. When disassembling it often turns out that the reservoir o-ring and throttle body gasket are unusable, it is best to replace them at the same time as cleaning, so that later you do not have to waste time disassembling the assembly again. You need to purchase parts based on engine size and number of valves. The gaskets for 1.6 are slightly different than for a motor with other parameters.

  1. Lift the hood and remove the plastic cover from the engine. If you have not a mechanical, but an electronic damper, which was installed on cars of later years of production, then remove the terminals from the battery and disconnect the electronic damper control chip.
  2. Disconnect the rubber ventilation hose. This hose is held in place by a clamp, so you will need a screwdriver. If you see dirt in this part of the assembly, wipe the connections and components with a rag.
  3. To reduce the pressure in the cooling system, remove the liquid supply tubes from the throttle assembly. To do this you will need to loosen the clamps. To prevent dirt from getting into the cooling system, plugs are put on the tubes. There you can do with all the hoses.
  4. Lastly, remove the fuel tank ventilation hose.
  5. After this, it is enough to unscrew two bolts and disconnect the accelerator pedal cable to get to the damper.

Examine the part and decide how you will proceed next:

  • carry out superficial cleaning without removing the entire assembly;
  • completely remove all contaminants, replace the gasket and o-ring.

In the first option, you need to remove a layer of dirt using a rag or cotton pad from the surface of the damper. In this case, do not use specific cleaning agents - wipe the throttle with gasoline or ordinary solvent. When cleaning, manually adjust the flap to remove dirt not only from the outside, but also from the inside.

For complete cleaning, remove the throttle assembly. To do this, it is enough to remove two bolts with a 13mm wrench. In this case, complete cleaning is carried out with special means and consumables are replaced. After you finish work, be sure to blow out the assembly with a stream of compressed air. Thanks to this, you will get rid of excess moisture in the assembly. With complete cleaning, your manipulations take place in a non-confined space, which allows you to put the entire unit in order. This is exactly what is best to do if you are doing routine throttle maintenance. During the complete cleaning, be sure to pay attention to the idle speed sensor - it is best to remove dirt from it using WD40 and cotton swabs.

Step by step cleaning

Before you start cleaning, you should prepare everything you need so that in the future you will not be distracted by searching for the right tool:

  • a set of car keys, sockets and tools;
  • regular and Phillips screwdriver;
  • gasket for the throttle block, it is advisable to purchase a new element;
  • a product that is used to remove contaminants from the carburetor;
  • gloves to protect hands.

You may also need ear cleaning sticks and a toothbrush that is not used for its intended purpose.

Cleaning is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Having opened the car hood, you need to disconnect the terminals from the battery, using a size 10 key to do this.
  2. By loosening the clamps on all 5 pipes, the pipe will be carefully removed.
  3. The connectors are disconnected from the sensor, which is located on the damper and the regulator that controls idle speed.
  4. The cable that controls the throttle is disconnected.
  5. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the idle speed control to remove this element from the block.
  6. Using a product used to clean carburetors, the surface of the block is cleaned. To clean the dirtiest areas, you can use a waste toothbrush and ear sticks.
  7. To extend the performance of the idle air regulator and the unit, experts recommend applying high-quality silicone lubricant to the rod. If, during a visual inspection, it was noticed that the condition of the rod is unsatisfactory or there is strong play, the easiest way is to completely replace the rod with a new one, especially since its cost is quite reasonable.
  8. Before assembling the throttle assembly, which is carried out in the reverse order, you need to replace the old gasket with a new one.

At this stage, the cleaning process can be considered complete, and, as you can understand, this event is not as difficult as it initially seems. If during cleaning it is not possible to achieve smooth operation, it is recommended to contact a specialist about this problem. To determine the cause of the malfunction, it may be necessary to use special equipment, which is available only at service stations.

What is a throttle valve?

It is an integral part of the engine injection system. Its main task in this system is to provide the necessary amount of air to form the air-fuel mixture. The air coming from the air filter encounters an obstacle in its path in the form of a damper. Pressing the gas pedal sets it in motion, and it turns to a certain angle. The greater the pressure on the pedal, the greater the opening angle.

After passing through the throttle assembly, the air is mixed with gasoline and directed into the cylinders. There, the air-fuel mixture is compressed and ignited, causing the pistons, and through connecting rods and the crankshaft, to move. The main characteristics of the motor depend on the degree of cleanliness of the input channel.

When to clean the throttle body

The following signs of a dirty throttle body should alert the driver that it is time to clean the throttle body:

  • The smooth transition from high to low speeds disappears. The motor may stop spontaneously;
  • It is very difficult to start the engine in the cold season. It may be accompanied by the smell of gasoline from the exhaust pipe;
  • When starting the engine, vibration and “triple” are observed, since there is not enough working mixture for all cylinders;
  • Inability to coast or engine braking.

To get rid of all this, you need to clean the throttle body. In some cases this happens earlier, in others later, but it is necessary to clean the throttle valve. The main culprits of pollution are small particles of dust, which still penetrate through the air filter, and the fuel mixture. When they get on the moving parts of this unit, they impede their movement, reduce the flow area of the intake tract, and clog the channel and rod of the idle speed sensor. Various sources recommend carrying out preventive work when a car runs away from 40 to 50 thousand km. When operating the car in areas with heavy dust, the car will not reach these mileage figures, the unit will clog earlier. Operation in areas where snow cover persists for a long time, this mileage may be even longer.

The quality of the fuel and engine oil used influences the timing of flushing the throttle assembly. Please also consider this issue very carefully.

Debugg

If you notice that the throttle has begun to perform its direct duties poorly, do not rush to go to a service station and hand over your money.

The problem with the damper can often be solved with your own hands.

Most often, a problem with the throttle occurs due to contamination, which leads to impaired functionality. To correct the situation, simply clean the element.

When Cleaning Is Required

The practice of "tens" car owners shows that on these cars the throttle becomes clogged literally just a few years after the start of active use of the car.

The biggest “pests” for the damper are particles of oil, dust and gases coming from the engine crankcase.

When the engine is running, dust mixes with air and oil, forming a kind of mixture that enters the throttle valve. Over time, this substance sticks to surfaces and accumulates on the idle rod.

Soon the thermal gap becomes covered with dirt, and access through the idle air regulator channel is significantly deteriorated. If you do nothing, the engine will begin to work incorrectly, the dynamics will drop, and the engine will respond late to pressing the gas pedal.

Signs of contamination

Problems with the throttle valve can be identified by characteristic symptoms.

Engine has difficulty returning from high to low speeds

This happens when you take your foot off the gas pedal. Instead of a smooth return to the required parameters, the speed literally drops to the 400 rpm mark. The engine may stall and begin to shake. The speed can return to the desired level, but with difficulty

The engine is difficult to start when cold and even when operating temperature is reached

To start the engine normally, you need to turn the starter for a long time. You can identify the problem by smell. The characteristic aroma of unburned fuel will come from the exhaust pipe. Try pressing the pedal all the way down several times. This will open the throttle fully, air will flow in, and the engine will start. But in the first few minutes the engine will still stall

Troubling the motor is a rather indirect sign, since this is how the engine can behave in various types of failure. But don't rule out problems with the throttle.

How to clean the throttle body

In order to clean the VAZ 2114 throttle valve, it must be removed. This is not at all difficult to do, you need to prepare a set of screwdrivers, a socket wrench set to “13”, a carburetor cleaner, and you can get to work.

Removing the throttle valve VAZ 2114

  1. Remove the decorative plastic cover of the motor;
  2. Next, the forced ventilation hose is removed. The presence of traces of oil in it serves as indirect confirmation of the need for cleaning;
  3. Open the cap on the expansion tank and release the clamps on the hoses that provide heating for this unit;
  4. Remove these hoses and close them with plugs to prevent coolant from escaping;
  5. The fuel tank ventilation hose and the damper drive cable are disconnected;
  6. Remove the two screws that secure the damper and remove it.

Now it becomes possible to clean and flush this unit. We hope that why you need to clean the throttle valve is already clear, let’s talk about what to clean and how to clean it.

The best cleansers

To perform this operation, you must first purchase a throttle valve cleaner from retail chains. Today, the choice of such products on store shelves is quite wide. You may be offered a choice of tools such as MEDIC, BD 40, CTEPUP, FluxOff and others.

DZ cleaning agent

There is no point in recommending anything specific. As many chemical products are available for sale, there are as many positive reviews about them. In this case, it is worth listening to the opinions of those drivers who have already carried out similar work on their car; you can look for reviews on the Internet and other sources about this or that brand of cleaning product. The cleaning product should be packaged in an aerosol can with a tube to allow access to remote channels.

How to clean the throttle valve

This unit is not a very complex structure, so cleaning the throttle valve is possible in the garage and can be done by any driver. Cleaning methods are used when it can be superficial and complete. Let's look at them in order.

  1. The surface method is not very effective and is carried out approximately once every 2-3 thousand kilometers. To perform it, you need to have any chemical agent, a rag and a soft brush. Apply the product to the accessible surface of the damper. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, and then wipe everything thoroughly with a brush and rag. When everything is dry, you can continue further operation of the machine;
  2. For complete cleaning it is necessary to have a new throttle valve gasket and O-ring. When carrying out such operations, it is advisable to replace them. Their cost is low, and the responsibility for the quality of the supplied air is enormous. It should be noted that they have design differences, so you need to know which spare part to purchase. Spray the removed flap with cleaning agent several times. The number of times can range from 3 to 5, and sometimes more. This depends on the degree of contamination and the type of chemical. This may require 30-40 minutes of your time. Particular attention is paid to all calibrated channels. Most often they are covered with soot. The throttle valve grooves are blown out with compressed air from a compressor or a tire pump with a nozzle is used. If you were able to flush the throttle valve, then do a similar procedure with the idle air regulator.

The damper sparkles in the rays of the garage lamp, which means that it can be returned to its normal place. Installation operations are carried out in the reverse order to its removal. At the end of the installation, there must be a mandatory check of the functionality of the cleaned unit.

Repair work

Now to the question of how the cleaning procedure is performed. For everything to go smoothly and without problems, it is enough to prepare all the necessary materials and tools in advance, place everything at hand and get to work.

To clean the throttle you will need:

  • Screwdriver Set;
  • 13mm wrench;
  • Throttle valve cleaner.

Specialized preparations made from appropriate components are sold specifically for these purposes. Do not spare money on their purchase, since the funds will last for a long time. This is more profitable than changing the damper every time.

Preparation

Let's start with the preparatory activities that will ultimately allow you to get to the throttle body and more and clean it properly.

  1. Remove the casing that is installed on the power unit.
  2. Unscrew the cap on the expansion tank. This will allow you to relieve excess pressure from the cooling system.
  3. Slightly loosen the tension on the mounting clamps, then remove the forced ventilation tube.
  4. Examine the current condition of the air pipe, which should also be removed and, if necessary, replaced.
  5. If there are significant traces of oil in the pipe, then you can be 100% sure that the throttle is definitely clogged.
  6. The problem is most likely in the forced ventilation duct. This is explained by the fact that contaminants in the form of gas from the crankcase and oil particles have no other way than through the ventilation branch.
  7. Next you need to remove the damper heating tubes. To do this, just loosen the clamps with a screwdriver.
  8. For a while, come up with plugs for them from improvised means - old spark plugs, some kind of non-hollow rubber bands. In short, anything that fits the diameter of the hole.
  9. Remove the fuel tank ventilation system hose. To do this, you must first unscrew the clamp, remove the cable and unscrew the throttle mounting nuts.
  10. Be sure to remove the connectors from two sensors - idle speed and throttle position. They are located on the unit being repaired, so there will be no problems with the search.

Cleaning

There is nothing difficult about cleaning the throttle valve. This procedure can be easily done with your own hands, without involving specialists from car services and without spending extra money.

  • Using the purchased throttle cleaner, clean the channels and the entire disassembled assembly;
  • Rinse the engine's forced crankcase ventilation duct especially carefully, since this is where the largest amount of pollutants comes from;
  • Use sharp objects if you want to carry out the work responsibly and as thoroughly as possible. A simple knitting needle will do;
  • Remove the idle air control. To do this, simply unscrew a couple of bolts;
  • Be sure to wash the unit thoroughly;
  • Check the condition of the rod. If it is heavily soiled or there is play, the element is easiest to replace. It's not expensive;
  • Inspect the current condition of the gasket. If the gasket is damaged, be sure to buy a new one. Even if it is in satisfactory condition, we advise you to make a replacement once you have begun to dismantle this unit;
  • After washing the throttle assembly elements, return all its components to their places, proceeding in the reverse order.

If you follow the recommendations, use special cleaning products and do not rush, after the washing procedure all problems with the gas pedal will disappear, the engine will again clearly respond to your “commands”.

As you can see, cleaning the throttle is quite simple. The most difficult stage can only be called disassembling the unit. And then, in the confident hands of a master, even a beginner, everything will go smoothly and without mistakes.

Throttle valve VAZ 2114 - complete flushing and effective modification

To begin removing the throttle on a VAZ 2114, you need to determine its location under the hood of the car. The element is located opposite the VAZ intake manifold and serves as the main regulator of the amount of air that enters the manifold. The throttle opens and closes every time the driver presses and releases the gas pedal.

Removing the throttle

Due to the fact that the throttle works with air supplied to it from the street, the element is constantly clogged with dust and small insects. All this settles on the assembly, which is why the part gradually stops opening and closing.

To understand when to start flushing the throttle valve, you should pay attention to the following changes in engine operation:

  • the power unit does not start the first time;
  • the crankshaft rotation speed has increased;
  • the idle speed of the car “jumps”;
  • The car sometimes jerks when driving at initial speeds.

Flushing the throttle valve

If you do not find any of the signs of a part being clogged, this does not mean that it is completely clean. For the purpose of prevention, experts advise flushing the throttle valve every 70 thousand km.

Signs of a dirty remote control

The most common symptoms associated with a dirty damper:

  1. Poor engine starting.
  2. Unstable idling, speed fluctuates.
  3. The car jerks when driving at low speeds.
  4. Difficulty idling, engine stalls.

All these signs indicate a dirty remote control. But do not rush to draw conclusions and start cleaning the unit, because they may also indicate a breakdown of some sensors: IAC, TPS - they are located on the throttle assembly and may be faulty. In particular, high-quality washing of the remote control can cure them, but not a fact (by following the link, you can check, clean, replace the IAC, check the TPS, repair and replace it). A faulty mass air flow sensor also has similar symptoms. It is advisable to clean the remote control at intervals of 30 thousand km.

Preventative cleaning of the part

In order not to wait until the VAZ 2114 throttle completely stops functioning, it is necessary to carry out surface washing of the part. This cleaning method is very simple. But do not forget that by performing such an operation, you will only clean some parts of the damper from dust. Consequently, the work will not be of much use. However, superficial cleaning will be an excellent start for VAZ drivers who have no experience in servicing the throttle valve.

Surface washing of the part

For preventative cleaning, it is necessary to remove the corrugation from the surface of the part. Next, we spray the internal parts of the damper with a cleaning agent, after which we thoroughly clean its structure with a rag or brush. The same must be done on the reverse side of the throttle valve. After this, install the corrugation and close the hood of the car.

Installing the throttle body corrugation

This cleaning method can be performed every 20–30 thousand km. In this way, you will significantly reduce the clogging of the element and extend its service life.

Cleaning

Even if the purpose of removing the throttle was to modify it, still do not forget that for stable operation it also needs periodic cleaning. To be honest, there is nothing complicated in this procedure, but it will help the engine run better, which is quite important.

For cleaning you will need:

  • short and long screwdrivers;
  • toothbrush (soft, or just old);
  • cotton buds;
  • cleaning agent;
  • rubber or cotton gloves.

For cleaning to give the desired result, it must be carried out very carefully. First, you can go through all the cavities with a toothbrush, at the same time cleaning the idle speed control (it must also be removed). Further, more delicate, cleaning is done with cotton swabs. Pay special attention to the area where the throttle valve is located and the place where the XX regulator fits.

Please note that cleaning the crankcase ventilation duct with conventional means is not possible, but it can be easily done using the foot pump available in each trunk. The diameter of the fitting is similar to the wheel one, you just need to add cleaning agent and pump your foot several times.

If you have problems mentioned at the beginning that started recently, cleaning should fix them. If there were problems from the beginning, do not forget about improvements. Sometimes only replacing the throttle assembly helps.

The operation of a gasoline-type engine is based on this: the driver presses the accelerator pedal, the state of which is recorded by the control unit, tilting the VAZ 2110 throttle valve in accordance with the force of pressure on the gas pedal. The damper serves as a conductor of air into the combustion chambers of the cylinders, the control unit records the volume of air and proportionally sends a signal to inject the same amount of fuel. Changing the amount of air and fuel mixture leads to acceleration or braking of the car.

The main point for clear and smooth operation of the power unit is the throttle valve, which is a link in the same chain between the control unit and the driver of the vehicle. The damper device is simple and consists of: a plate fixed to the axis, which is placed in the pipe. Changing the angle of inclination leads to a change in the supply of the combustible mixture, which affects engine operation.

After two or three years of operation, the injector throttle valve on the VAZ 2110 tends to become clogged and needs to be cleaned from the effects of exhaust gas and dust. As a result, the operation of the injector becomes unstable. It is advisable to carry out comprehensive diagnostics of the throttle valve (TZ) systematically - after 60,000 km.
