Dismantling
To connect, you first need to log in to the SAUKU, the heating and air conditioning control unit. On Vesta and X Ray the algorithm is different, so it’s worth taking a closer look at everything.
Lada Vesta
In a sedan, the SAUKU unit is traditionally located on the center console. To get there, you need to remove 3 elements:
- Panel coating (plastic);
- Lock;
- Cover of SAUKU.
The plastic cover is attached to the center console using plastic fasteners. To separate them, you need to pry the bottom and pull it towards you.
After this, the panel with the keys is disassembled, which is attached to the latch cover, including around the entire perimeter. They need to be disconnected.
The most difficult thing is to remove the SAUKU cover.
It is best to start working on the left side. First you need to get to the fuse box by removing the plastic cover that covers it. You need to tighten the 3 plastic handles that secure the lid from below, and then remove the lock from above.
In the end, all that's left is to pull the lid off from the bottom, undo the clips that secure it to the top of the order, and remove the lid. When the fuse box cover is removed, you will need to remove 2 mounting screws.
Then we move to the central part, where you also need to unscrew the 2 mounting screws, which are located directly under the panel with the keys.
Then it remains to unscrew 1 mounting screw on the right side, which is located under the glove box lid.
After this, access opens directly to the SAUKU lock, which is attached to the escutcheon with Torx screws. Unscrew them and disconnect the plug.
Lada X Ray
Independent connection of a heated windshield to the Lada X-Ray via an additional signal channel also begins with the removal of the SAUKU unit. Everything here is much simpler than on Vesta. The panel itself with the block is fixed with two hooks in the upper part and two iron guides equipped with springs in the lower part.
You need to carefully lift the panel at the bottom and carefully pull it towards you. This will release the top supports. In the end, all that remains is to disconnect the wires.
What do the inscriptions on the glass mean - decoding

Activating hidden functions
DDT4all software is used, which transmits information from control units. Synchronization occurs when ELM327 is connected. This is a small adapter designed to work with the car system. Connection is made via Bluetooth or USB.
What is necessary
To scan a car you must perform the following operations:
- Python 2.7 and PyQt4 are installed (32/64 depending on the version of Python, depending on the version of Windows);
- install DDT4ALL (the program is constantly improving), unpack it to drive “C” in Python27\Scripts\ddt4all;
- install the latest DDT database and unpack it into the program installation folder;
- run ddt4all.py on the command line;
- In the main window, click search; after scanning is completed, blocks will be displayed on the left.
To install the software database, copy the special “ecus” directory from your database and move it to the root of the source code tree. After this, ddt4all.py is launched.
Connection and preparation for use
- You need to install DDT4ALL software on your computer, and connect the ELM327 transmitter to your car. In Vesta, the connector is located on the driver's side, closer to the door. It is located at the bottom of the dashboard.
- After starting the program, you need to select the COM port if the connection is via Bluetooth.
- Click “Connect”, after which a new window will open, where you need to click “Scan blocks” (button with a magnifying glass) and in the window that opens click “CAN”. You must wait while the program scans.
- After this, the blocks on the left side of the window are highlighted in green; below there will be a “Screens” menu, where the necessary actions are selected individually.
- Then, after selecting the required parameters, click the button with the image of Einstein on the top left (Expert mode) and click “Send”.
Launching the DDT4ALL program and working with it
Depending on the operating system, the application starts as follows:
- Application. Open “File” and click “Zip database”. Next you need to remove “ecus”.
- Terminal. Run “python parameters.py”, go to “zipconvert”. After that, move or delete "ecus".
- Linux. Write "python ddt4all.py".
- Windows. Run the file DDT4ALL.BAT.
Having written the “DDT2000 XML” file in the “JSON” format, it can then be edited. You can also create your own windows in the software, which will display ECU parameters.
Basic faults
The first important malfunction is the incompatibility of the windshield with the windshield wipers. The standard wipers managed to cause a lot of trouble for the owners of the first Vestas.
The second problem is scratches on the side windows. The seals on the doors are very tight against the windows. When grains of sand, ordinary dust and dirt appear between them, vertical scratches appear on the sides. Replacing and slightly modifying the rubber seals on the doors can save you from this.
The problem with the windshield is not only due to chipping. If you hear a squeaking sound from the front, the culprit may be the upper rubber seal. If the interior seal is broken, the windshield will have to be replaced.
Stick madeleine (anti-creaking) on the glass seals
Another way to prevent scratches on Vesta glass is to stick madeleine on the seals. We cut the strips and glue them, retreating 1-2 mm from the top of the internal seal, as shown in the photo (do not forget to clean and degrease the surface):
We modify the outer glass seal in the same way. We glue the top part flush with the factory one, and place the bottom 3 mm below the velvet on the plastic so that the glass does not lift up the madeline when lifted.

Windshield replacement and results
I have it with heating and a rain and light sensor, so only to order. The price was announced at 6500 including installation. Bohr type glass. Gel separately - another 800 rubles. In principle, the price suited me and I ordered it. A couple of days later the glass arrived and I went for a replacement. I didn’t film the whole process, because... basically nothing interesting.
I was happy with the new glass literally until the new year...
In December I went on vacation to Kislovodsk. The road back was simply terrible. After Stavropol there is continuous fog - visibility in some places is 30 meters, damp and two lanes. I drove through Elista. I planned to make it to Saratov, but the constant stress was so exhausting that I fell on the bed in the first motel I came across and could not fall asleep for a long time from fatigue... On the road you stand behind a truck and trudge until there is a 100% option for overtaking. If you walk nearby, such dirt flies off them that the wipers were constantly working. And falling behind means missing out on overtaking. And you won’t be far behind - the trail is 100 meters behind them... And so I drove for 500 kilometers... There was fog on the second day, but the road itself was better. Well, in the end, upon arrival, the glass was in a deplorable state - constant sandblasting did its job. It's not very visible in the photo - it's hard to photograph the glass.
Therefore, it was decided to polish the glass, because... It was a pity to throw away another 8 and a kopeck. I researched the issue and ordered cerium oxide on eBay back in the winter (
350 rubles for 200 grams) and bought a felt circle at the market. I had a polishing machine for a long time, because... that when the weather became more or less normal, I went to polish.
The process took just over an hour. I mainly polished the wiper stripes. How and what to do - in bulk online: dilute cerium oxide with water and polish, sometimes splashing with water and adding diluted powder. The main thing is not to overheat.
The result was pleasing - the white stripes were almost gone. In the deepest places, only a slight refraction is visible, both from the lens and only from the interior. It’s not noticeable at all from the street unless you know where it was.
The photo is only from the street, because... the phone cannot see what is visible from the interior...
I could have tinkered with it some more, but I got tired of it.
