Just before the start of the Moscow Motor Show 2018, AvtoVAZ revealed all the information about the restyled Lada Granta 2018-2019 family. It is represented by models in four body types: sedan, liftback, hatchback and station wagon. At the same time, the last two versions are restyled Lada Kalina - Tolyatti residents decided to abandon this brand and, after modernization, included the cars in the Granta line.

Sales of the updated Grant will start on August 30, at which time full price lists with detailed prices and configurations will be published. However, the base cost of the models has already been named: the cheapest will be the sedan with a price starting from 419,900 rubles, followed by the hatchback and liftback - from 436,900 rubles, and finally, for the station wagon you will have to pay no less than 446,900 rubles. Later, the family will be replenished with the elevated Lada Granta Cross station wagon (a new version of the previous Kalina Cross) and sports modifications of the Granta Sport in sedan and hatchback bodies. In the long term, it is possible that a “warmed-up” liftback with the Sport prefix will enter the market, but so far AvtoVAZ is silent on this matter.

All representatives of the new Lada Granta line received a unified front design in the style of Vesta and X-ray.
In addition to the modernized bumper, radiator grille and headlights, the nose of the Grant acquired a slightly adjusted hood and different shaped wings. At the same time, some other improvements were made - the washer nozzles moved from the surface of the hood to the panel in front of the windshield, and new soft fender liners appeared in the wheel arches, which better absorb the impacts of gravel flying out from under the wheels and also do not absorb moisture. Among other things, the restyled Lada Granta will boast new 15-inch alloy wheels and an expanded color palette, which includes two previously unavailable shades - Carnelian (red) and Techno (gray-brown).

These are the slogans prescribed for each of the models. The cost of the modifications is not reliably known, but it can be assumed that the differences will be insignificant.

Otherwise, few people will buy a domestic brand if for the same money you can buy a French Renault Logan.

The updated Granta liftback sedan will appear in a completely new “X-Ray” body. We have already seen something similar with the Lada Vesta. In addition to the two body modifications, a station wagon will also be added, also with an “X-Ray” front part.

Despite the body update, the power units remained at the same level - from the great-grandfathers and great-grandmothers of the VAZ-2108, 2109, 21099. Such developments are somewhat upsetting, since something new could have been developed over such a long period. There were rumors about a completely new type of engine with a volume of 1.4 liters and 16 valves with a pre-installed turbocharger. But this remained at the level of rumors.

The gear change occurs due to the control drive cable, which increases the clarity of gear engagement, reduces the force on the shift lever and reduces wear on the gearbox gears. The engine remained unchanged, except for increased power to 90 hp.

But when it comes to interior design and comfort, the Lada Granta Luxury is far ahead of its predecessors. For example, instead of the usual audio preparation, a new generation car radio with a 7-inch touch screen is installed here. Built-in GPS navigator, which will display the gear engaged, if equipped with an automatic transmission.

In addition to the fact that the Grant Luxury has central locking, like its predecessors, it is controlled remotely, as is the trunk opening. The rear view mirrors are heated and electrically adjustable. The front seats are also heated. There are light and rain sensors, fog lights.

As for the controls, this modification is equipped with power steering, as well as an anti-lock brake system and a stability control system. As for safety, there are side and front airbags, a safety steering wheel and seat belts that limit stress on the chest during a collision.

How does it feel to operate a Lada Granta 1.6 automatic transmission?

Let's be honest, there aren't many expectations from this car. Most potential buyers only expect that the car will drive and not break down. No buyer fully expects comfort and quality of travel from this car. The Lada Granta, in its updated version with an automatic transmission, has made a little progress in providing comfort and ride quality. The car has become more beautiful and comfortable, comfort has increased due to minor changes in design and construction.

But the car still has many disadvantages, and you need to work with them:

• at a speed of 100 km/h and above, the car unpleasantly moves off the road, the chassis does not want to hold the asphalt, as a result, the car wanders across the entire width of the lane, you always need to catch it;
• the hum from the engine or gearbox is quite noticeable, and sound insulation will not help here, you need to refine the design and remove extraneous sounds, which are very annoying;
• the automatic transmission was adapted for this car, and the adaptation from AvtoVAZ is felt - when accelerating smoothly from a speed of 50-60 km/h on the highway, the box begins to behave irresponsibly;
• the brakes remain very mysterious - you need to spend the first hours behind the wheel of the car carefully, as the braking is either harsh or non-existent, and this is a real problem for the driver;
• The liftback is a little inferior to the sedan in terms of ride comfort - from the trunk every now and then you can hear the sounds of clicking tools, the spare tire moving in the niche and other mysterious noises.

Innovations in the interior

The interior of any Grant now has a front panel from Kalina with revised decor of individual elements. Thus, the central rectangular deflectors have an X-shaped design, and the round side deflectors have a chrome edging. Other metamorphoses include changed button backlighting (from green to white), updated dashboard design (the scales now have orange rims, like Vesta’s), and a different pattern of decorative overlays on the panel.

The list of improvements does not end there. All variations of the 2018-2019 Lada Granta have seats with new upholstery and more developed lateral support bolsters. Also, the driver’s seat, albeit only in rich trim levels, is now equipped with a height adjustment mechanism that allows you to raise and lower the seat by 40 mm. The head restraints on the Grant seats have become larger and more comfortable.

The update did not affect the Granta engine range. The model's arsenal includes the same petrol units:

If the engines have remained virtually unchanged structurally (the only innovation is a groove on the pistons to minimize damage if the timing belt breaks), then the Tolyatti engineers have done a fair amount of work on the transmission. The first innovation concerns cars with manual transmission and AMT - their main gear ratio has increased from 3.7 to 3.9. This has affected the dynamic characteristics: four-door cars with an 87-horsepower engine now accelerate to 100 km/h in 11.6 seconds (previously 12.2 seconds), sedans with a 106-horsepower unit and a manual transmission in 10.5 seconds (previously 10.9 seconds).

“Robot” AMT received its share of improvements. Now he has a “creeping” mode, which allows the car to move off when the brake pedal is released. The manual transmission is also equipped with “Winter” (start from second gear on snowy roads) and “Sport” (faster gear changes) modes. The clutch of the robotic transmission has become more resistant to wear, and the box itself is now much quieter.
