VAZ 2110 is a domestic front-wheel drive sedan. Each of the automobile industry cars has its own set of characteristics and is in demand in the country’s car market. Characteristics of VAZ 2110

This model began to be produced serially in a sedan body in 1996. This car began the whole era of front-wheel drive. VAZ 2110 brought many changes and innovations to the automotive industry. Engineers used the most original developments. One of these innovations was the use of gas latches in the hood, the ability to adjust the steering column, cruise control and the presence of an immobilizer. Engineers used a special system that neutralizes gasoline evaporation and ventilates the brake disc. The designers could even provide for the possibility of installing air conditioners, but it is not possible to install a climate control device on every car. The VAZ 2110 was positioned as a car whose price was in the maximum configuration. The model had a fairly large and roomy trunk for its level.

The station wagon was, of course, roomy. However, there is a drawback here. The hinge design took up part of the volume, and the overly inflated wheel arches did not contribute to the convenient placement of cargo. The spare wheel is very conveniently located. The disk is upside down, so it is convenient to store many things and tools on it. This made it possible to simplify use and, if necessary, repair the car.

VAZ-21123

Surely many have seen the VAZ-21123, better known as the Lada 112 Coupe, on the streets. The model was created on the basis of the VAZ-2112 hatchback and was produced from 2002 to 2009. The car was a three-door hatchback and was positioned by AvtoVAZ as a sports coupe.

There are several modifications of the VAZ-21123. The top ones were equipped with a 1.8-liter 98-horsepower engine, a five-speed manual transmission and air conditioning, but power steering, alloy wheels and athermal glass were already standard.

Problems of the “tenth family” on the used market

Power unit

The first VAZ-2110s were equipped with a carburetor, but especially for this model, with “automatic intake” without the use of an intake lever, which is present in conventional types of carburetors.

The VAZ 2110 engine had a volume of 1.5 liters and a power of 69 hp. S., which contributed to economical fuel consumption - about 7.5 liters per 100 km. Shortly thereafter, a 1.5-liter fuel-injected 16-valve engine debuted, producing 94 horsepower. It had a DOHC type gas distribution mechanism.

Such an engine reached the speed mark of 100 km/h in 12.5 seconds, and the maximum speed had already reached 185 kilometers per hour. The technical equipment of the Lada-2110, which had a sixteen-valve engine, looked quite decent compared to the cheap foreign cars of those years. The engine was last updated in 2004, so the volume was increased by 100 cc.

The dynamic component of the 69-horsepower power unit is unlikely to amaze even the driver of the 2106, but the 12 percent reduction in fuel consumption compared to the 99 often attracted buyers. The maximum speed with such an engine is about 162 kilometers per hour.

In addition, after a while, an 8-valve power unit 21102 with injection was released, the power of which was already 78 horsepower. The first hundred was reached in 14 seconds, and the maximum speed was 170 kilometers per hour.

Features of VAZ Premier

The VAZ 2110 Premier, shown in the photo, was produced in a small series. Several dozen such cars are produced in Tolyatti. Assembly is carried out only upon order.

VAZ 2110 Premier is an extended VAZ 2110. However, the body is not made from bodies cut from a “dozen”, but is assembled using a completely original set of spare parts. When creating the design, the designers took into account and took some steps to give the longer body additional rigidity.

To begin with, we strengthened the structure of the car floor. The model is painted in the same place as the VAZ 2110. The premiere, as already mentioned, is assembled to order. For an additional fee, you can install additional accessories on your car, such as power steering, leather upholstery or air conditioning. The VAZ 2110 Premier has an extended wheelbase (175 mm). The dimensions have also increased, and with them the ability for car passengers to sit more comfortably.

The model's suspension is stiffer than that of the sedan, as the car's weight has increased by as much as 65 kg. The rear springs are similar to those installed on the 2111 station wagon. As for engines, the model is equipped with the most common 1.5 liter engines with 16 valves. But new ones can also be installed - 1.8 liters from the VAZ 21128. This is a modification of the 16-valve engine installed on the VAZ 2112. Engineers managed to significantly increase the scope of work.

VAZ-21109 Consul

“Lada Consul” is another attempt by AvtoVAZ to occupy a niche in the premium segment. To do this, they took the same ten and lengthened its body by 650 mm. Naturally, due to the increase in body size, it was necessary to strengthen it and make the suspension more rigid.

The power unit on the VAZ-21109 was a 16-valve petrol engine with a volume of 1.5 liters and a power of 93 hp. With. In the Consul's cabin one could find two separate chairs in the back row, tables, a bar with a refrigerator, a TV, an air conditioner and a partition between the rows of seats.

Car history

In 1983, the design of a sedan began on the platform of the VAZ-2108 sedan. The project was named VAZ-2110. But what's interesting is that the design team made too many changes, which made the car more expensive. For this reason, in 1984, this project was separated from the project of a simple “transition” of the VAZ-2108 to a sedan (later called the VAZ-21099).

The first experimental version of the "ten" was released in July 1985. The management planned to put the car into mass production since 1992, but the economic crisis took its toll. The debut versions of the top ten were released in June 1995. Production was carried out directly at AvtoVAZ.

VAZ-2110 Expert

Serial production of cars began in August 1996, and already in the same year it was possible to buy a new product. In those years, global automotive technology reached a new level, and until the end of the 1980s, a revolutionary car could not be called a completely new vehicle. But despite these and other complaints about build quality in the 1990s, the car was a clear step forward for the Soviet automobile industry.

If we compare the Zhiguli and Samara, the 2110 positions itself as a modern and competitive car of the highest class, both externally and internally. More precisely, the VAZ-2112 has an electronic powertrain control system (although the debut versions were equipped with carburetors) and a diagnostic unit (on-board computer).

In addition, the Lada 2112 could be equipped with power steering and electric windows. Body parts were made of galvanized metal, new body painting technology was used, and so on. Issue 2110 marked a new stage in the development of the Soviet automobile industry. The hero of our article, Lada 2112, appeared shortly after this, in 1999, almost immediately after the VAZ 2111 station wagon. Today we will take a closer look at this domestic model.

Facelift and lifting

Already in the late 1990s, the VAZ Pilot Production began producing tuning cars of the tenth family in tiny quantities, essentially carrying out a facelift of the mass model. In particular, the VAZ-2110T, also known as the VAZ-21103-010/03, was assembled in small series.

Another example of early factory tuning is the VAZ-2110M produced. Later, in factory brochures, this option was called the VAZ-2110 Euro.

Of course, the VAZ-2112 hatchback became a fertile object for tuning, as soon as it appeared. One of the options was developed and promoted by Togliatti. Similar body kits were offered for the VAZ-2110 sedans, and a slightly simpler set of external parts was also offered for the VAZ-2111 station wagon.

Why was the super ten needed? The answer is very simple: a certain number of “quasi-civilian” versions were required for homologation in the WRC group. Two liters

How did the “one hundred and sixth” differ from the usual modification of the VAZ-21103 with a sixteen-valve one and a half liter engine 2112? First of all, with a warm and lively “heart” - a 2.0-liter Opel gasoline engine appeared under the hood. Depending on the modification, it developed from 136 to 150 hp. – God doesn’t know by the standards of really loaded cars, but for a normal “ten”, taking into account its weight, it’s quite a lot. It is interesting to note that the engine (complete with gearbox) was supplied by the sports department of Vauxhall, the British division of General Motors.

The two-liter sixteen-valve Opel engine in the C20XE version developed one hundred and fifty horsepower and almost 200 Nm of torque. Such indicators provided the car with enviable dynamics: from approximately 9 seconds to a hundred and more than 200 km/h “maximum speed”, and not theoretical, but obtained through practical measurements. Interesting design features of the C20XE engine include a forged piston assembly and a separate oil cooler.

By the way, mass production of the engine greatly helps the few owners of the exclusive Togliatti: “in any case” you can buy most of the engine parts and components.

VAZ-21106 Yellow Shark

This is a small-scale version of the "ten", developed for the homologation of racing car parts. The VAZ-21106 prototype was shown at the Moscow Motor Show in 1996. The car was nicknamed the “Yellow Shark” for its characteristic body color.

Under the hood it had a naturally aspirated Opel engine with a volume of 2 liters and a power of 150 horsepower. The Yellow Shark accelerated to hundreds in 9.5 seconds, and its maximum speed reached 205 km/h.

The appearance of the prototype was strikingly different from the base VAZ-2110: the car received different bumpers, wings, mirrors, a hood with an air intake, 15-inch wheels on low-profile tires, a spoiler and a different gas tank flap.

The interior received a modified instrument panel, a three-spoke steering wheel, heated buckets and a black ceiling. Technically, the “Yellow Shark” also had its own characteristics: lower ground clearance, widened track and increased wheelbase, upgraded front suspension and front ventilated brakes.

Interior

When starting to create the interior, the designers took into account some of the shortcomings of previous models and corrected them. Now the driver sits behind the wheel with his legs extended, and not as before, with his legs bent. The steering wheel itself has changed its appearance and has become much more beautiful. It has two palm rests with a cushion and no longer blocks the view of the tools. In the dashboard, the designers used soft plastic that looks beautiful and feels good to the touch.

This reduces the likelihood of noise and squeaks. In newer models, all the large mechanical buttons are located on the sides of the dashboard. The climate control is intuitive.

The steering column has the ability to adjust the vertical tilt angle and power steering. But despite the updated steering wheel, the rim itself seems too thin to many. The rear seats are quite comfortable, but for three passengers it will be cramped. The luggage compartment volume is 480 liters.

The “Norma” package includes front power windows (the servo does not matter, they do not reach the doors), velvet upholstery of seats and doors, as well as headrests on the rear seats of the sofa. The most expensive “Lux” kit already has an on-board computer, heated rear-view mirrors and heated front seats

The keys mounted on the sides of the dashboard make you forget that the car began to be designed back in the 80s of the last century. The fuses and relays for the most important vehicle options are located inside the vehicle, on the left side under the steering wheel, which is very convenient.

In the famous "Samara" everything was not so convenient. We thought about loading long and narrow items: to do this, the central backrest of the rear sofa can be fully reclined, and the backrests of the rear seats can also be reclined, but at a smaller angle.

The outside door handle is much better. The tongue of the well-known “eight” disappeared, and now the door began to open with the usual upward movement of the lever. Speaking about the door, it must be said that it has become quite comfortable in width, and small in height. Not to say that it will interfere, but the lack of height space makes itself felt.

However, the door itself no longer raises any complaints, partly due to the sharp angle at the top. People of average height have nothing to fear, but those who are a little taller should be careful as they can easily encounter this.

In addition, the designers limited the opening angle of the door, which has only one intermediate fixed position. I was pleased that the threshold, which on the 2108 was always covered with a layer of dirt in bad weather, now, thanks to the design features, always remains clean.

This point is very important, since when getting into a car, you can easily get your clothes dirty by touching the edges of the threshold. The driver is presented with another dashboard, which no longer contains “oak” molded plastic – now the panel consists of soft elements reminiscent of the materials used in the “classic” VAZ.”

Almost everywhere has become a little more comfortable thanks to the new upholstery of the seats and soft ceiling. However, only the door trim remained modeled and, in turn, modified.

It is no longer possible to find that annoying pillow for drivers in the lumbar area that was on the G8. Of course, there was no lateral support as before, so now there is none. The chair is still adjustable in only two positions, and the adjustment remains mechanical.

The VAZ 2110 gear shift lever was lengthened, which can be explained by the desire to reduce the effort when changing gears. The most important indicators - the speedometer and tachometer - now occupy the necessary place in the central part of the instrument panel, and the turn indicators are placed on the sides. The center console has acquired indicators for the on-board control system.

Model 21103 - “new” line 110

The VAZ 211103 model is the third modification of the 110 line. The older “brother” of this model is the first version of the Lada 2110 with an 8-valve carburetor engine, released in 1996. There was a second modification of the VAZ 21102, intended for implementation in the line of injection engines. But the number of valves was still 8. And in 1997, the VAZ 21103 car was released with a sixteen-valve injection power unit.

In addition to the engine, version 21103 has the following changes compared to its predecessors:

  • power steering.
  • air conditioner;
  • ABS system;

Galvanized body, ventilated brakes, new gasoline vapor recovery system and air conditioning inside. All these possibilities represent real know-how for the Russian automotive industry in 1997. Other trim levels were available with power windows, metallic paint, 14-inch alloy wheels and even a trip computer.

Moreover, compared to the classic ten, the clearance between the rear and front seats has been increased from 235 to 375 mm.

But the main trump card and highlight of this model is manual assembly, which ensures high quality. To order, the car was equipped with 1.5 or 1.6 liters. engine model 21124, power steering, air conditioning, sunroof, leather interior. Production of the VAZ 21108 Premier model began in 1999. Suspension and driving characteristics

Shock absorbers in the top ten are like a lottery. They can travel 100–150 thousand km, or they can refuse even 30 thousand km. It’s better to change them in pairs, but don’t worry and take anything away from the tuning. The same original shock absorbers adapt well to uneven roads. When purchasing, pay attention to the upper strut supports - they suffer from peeling rubber.

At the rear, the 2110 has a regular torsion bar. Everything is as simple as possible and should not cause any problems. Pay attention to the rear brakes. If vibration occurs when braking, it is very likely that the rear piston is seized or leaking. The problem is treated by replacing the part with a foreign analogue.

In general, the car is quite passable and can give many modern sedans a chance. Ground clearance of 160 mm and high overhangs will allow you to easily park even on high curbs and drive light SUVs.

Advantages and disadvantages

Speaking about the former dream of car enthusiasts, it is difficult not to touch upon the issues of its advantages and disadvantages. For convenience, we list them in the table:

Unfortunately, the VAZ 2110 has much more disadvantages than advantages. Among them, it is also worth noting the failure of the door lock drive - this is one of the most common problems. Burnout of electrical wiring also often occurs in 10-20 year old specimens. Car shock absorbers are like a lottery - they can travel 120-150 thousand kilometers, or they can fail after 30. Practice shows that it is advisable to replace them with foreign analogues.

During active use of the vehicle, jamming or leakage of the rear brake cylinder may occur. This problem manifests itself as vibration when braking.

Among the main advantages of this model, its low cost should be highlighted. Now the most expensive copy of 2012, with one owner and 90,000 km on the secondary market costs 205,000 rubles.

Brand history

Work on the 2110 required huge changes to the car's design and architecture and resulted in production becoming significantly more expensive. As a result of development, the VAZ 2108 was modified in 21099. The first car created according to the VAZ 2110 project appeared in 1985. This was a prototype. In November 1987, the first photographs of the new car began to appear in the press. It was supposed to go into mass production in the near future. However, economic problems overtook the country, and therefore the release was completely postponed.

The “ten” went into mass production only in 1991. By the way, this is the only car that does not and did not have its own name. However, this is the most popular model among car enthusiasts. The production of the VAZ 2110 sedan was launched at the Volzhsky Automobile Plant in the summer of 1995. The VAZ 2111 station wagon appeared three years later. The VAZ 2110 family of models has three body styles. By the standards of the domestic automobile industry, this is a real exorbitant luxury.

But while marketers were promoting the VAZ 2110, the technologies used in the automotive industry have advanced significantly. Therefore, the once modern and technologically advanced car lost its shine and charm in 1996. However, it was the sedan that became a real sign of the owner’s solidity. After all, this is not the station wagon that was popular at the time. This may explain the high demand for the VAZ 2110.

Recent history

The first six prototypes of the future VAZ-2110 appeared in 1986. True, they bore little resemblance to the “ten” that went into production at the end of the century. The design was calmer, but therefore less interesting than that of the production car.

And ten years later, when the “ten” had not yet become serial, in 1996 the show-stopper VAZ-21106 with the semi-official name “Yellow Shark” became a sensation at the Moscow Motor Show.

The “Yellow Shark” in a fashionable body kit was also equipped with a 2-liter Opel engine with, at that time, a huge power of 150 hp. The maximum speed exceeded 200 km/h. Later, such machines were produced in small series.

The VAZ-21108 Premier with a wheelbase increased by 175 mm was produced in small quantities by its subsidiary. Such cars with a 91-horsepower engine were once used, in particular, by VAZ bosses.

But the further process of lengthening the “ten” stalled on two prototypes of the VAZ-21109 Consul, the base of which was increased to 3142 mm (the base sedan is 2492 mm). There were still no buyers for such a long car, albeit one with a luxuriously decorated interior.

Exterior

At the time of release, the VAZ 2110 had a modern appearance, but at the same time it became the subject of criticism and discussion from automotive experts. Many people think, looking at some elements, that the design of the car is unattractive. The most problematic place from a design point of view is the rear wing.

The rear of the VAZ in profile seems too heavy. However, when compared with the VAZ 21099, the new model has significantly improved aerodynamic characteristics. And as a result of good rationalization, the new VAZ 2110 became cheaper. There are no rectangular shapes here, as in Samars, and overall the car looks neat.

Bumpers are now body-colored even on cheaper versions. This gave it a distinctive look, especially in those days when it was not always possible to find something like that even in foreign cars. And the most expensive modification, the luxury one, had additional headlights on the front bumper and an additional brake light behind the rear window.

All parts of the body subject to corrosion are galvanized. The body of the Lada 10a is made more than half of galvanized steel, which in itself increases corrosion resistance.

However, even having bought a galvanized VAZ model, you will not have to stop there, because those who did not do anti-corrosion treatment could notice rust on the bottom of the car. Therefore, there is only one conclusion - anticorrosive protection must be done regardless of galvanized steel.

Starting from the “normal” configuration, metallic paint is provided, and already in the “Lux” version the VAZ-2110 comes with fourteen-inch alloy wheels. Thanks to the laminated glass, the rigidity of the body increases, which is undoubtedly a plus, but the gaps between the body panels in some places can reach 7 millimeters.

If we talk about the door handles, they are made for lower grip, and this, in turn, indicates that the car has been in development for a long time. The lock cylinder, which is mounted separately from the handle itself, indicates that the Volzhsky Automobile Plant sedan is budget-friendly.

The appearance of the new model was clearly different from the already familiar “chisel-shaped” cars produced by the Volzhsky Automobile Plant. By reducing the drag coefficient, it was possible to reduce fuel consumption.

The dimensions of the vehicle have become larger in length, height and width, and along with the base, the track has also been increased. The addition was made by weight. Speaking of the latter, it is worth noting that the weight gain allowed the “ten” to look stronger, which raised it half a step higher in the ranking.

For this reason, changes had to be made to the “running”, although the most important decisions remained the same. From its appearance it is clear that the “master” of domestic auto production has become heavier and weaker. Although, if you evaluate each element, then everything is at its own level.

There are licked surfaces, painted in the body color of powerful bumpers, a pleasant “butt”, even if it is too plump. However, if you put it all together, for some unknown reason it will not return. The characteristic “toothy” smile that was on previous VAZ models is, fortunately, not here.

The front window of the car is glued, which indicates the absence of a standard gasket. The windshield wiper arm now has an aerodynamic seal. If we talk about the trunk (which can include a VAZ 2111), then the opening has become wider and the loading height is lower.

Options and prices

Today the 2110 is no longer produced. Aftermarket prices range from $3,000 (carburetor version) to $5,000 with fuel injection and a nicer look. The plant had three modifications: standard, standard and luxury. The latter was equipped with 14-inch wheels, an on-board computer, heated front seats, a spoiler and fog lights. In its standard configuration, the Lada 110 was practically empty.”

However, after 2005, the standard modification improved slightly - now an electronic engine control system and an on-board computer were installed on the car. In addition, for an additional fee, the car was equipped with an electric steering wheel and electric windows.

The steering column could be customized. There were also ventilated brake discs, an immobilizer and air conditioning. In the manufacture of body elements, only galvanized metal was used.

The Togliatti car was many times superior to other models. For speed lovers, we have developed the top ten in the sports class, but it is already in a different price category.

It’s clear that the VAZ’s interior is inferior in comfort to many foreign cars, but it doesn’t seem ascetic. Everything looks harmonious, there are ergonomics that can be increased if necessary. The seats are quite comfortable, with headrests. The movement of the car has become softer and more stable. Added cast iron wheels.

VAZ-2116-04

This is an all-wheel drive version of the “Eleventh”, but not as off-road as the “Tarzan”. Externally, it is an ordinary VAZ-2111 station wagon with increased ground clearance and plastic lining on the bumpers, sills and wheel arches.

The car was equipped with a 150-horsepower engine and transmission from Opel. There was also a version with an 88 horsepower engine, but it did not go into production.

Results

Although the VAZ-2112 car has not been produced for a long time, it can often be found on the streets of many cities in the post-Soviet space. The car was able to prove itself well, especially at the start of production. Many even mistook this sedan for a foreign car. Even today, the car does not have such a crude design as the Nine or similar cars, and it even looks modern.

It is clear that the model cannot compete with foreign cars, but at its price it is the best option.

it is especially suitable for tuning enthusiasts, as it has many possibilities for improving the appearance, interior and technical parts. It will not be possible to avoid poor-quality interiors and low levels of sound insulation. Inside, too, especially in the back row, there is little free space. Creaking sounds will constantly accompany the driver on the road.

The power of the power plants is not always enough, especially when overtaking there is not enough power. But the engine can be called quite economical even in urban conditions. The VAZ 2112, although not an ideal car, is suitable for a first car, as it has a low cost on the secondary market, low prices for spare parts and is easy to repair.

VAZ-2111-90

The “Tarzan” model turned out as follows: a body from a VAZ-2111 was installed on a supporting frame and the whole thing was equipped with a power plant, transmission and chassis from a Niva. The result is an all-wheel drive frame SUV that combines the cross-country ability of the Niva and the comfort of the Eleventh.

The car never went into production, but was produced in limited editions from 1999 to 2006.

Is it worth buying?

The Russian top ten is no longer a dream; its former popularity has irrevocably sunk into oblivion. Obviously, you won’t turn around in front of such a car when leaving the parking lot, and in the looks of passers-by you certainly won’t see not envy or admiration, but sympathy and sadness. Therefore, the choice of such a car is rather not conscious and desired, but forced.

This car is considered the first car to hone your driving skills. The VAZ-2210 will cope well with this role. The cost of repairs and parts is minimal, and you can even repair the car in your garage. In addition, the “ten” is unpretentious in fuel and economical in consumption.

The VAZ-2110 model with a modern interior and exterior design has proven that it is not afraid of the Russian climate and is well suited for our roads and getting into city traffic. The car has a spacious trunk, a pleasant interior, a lively engine and low fuel consumption.

In particular, the VAZ-2110 car has many advantages over its direct predecessor - the 99th model. There was a hydraulic steering wheel, as well as its adjustments, which previously could only be dreamed of.

There was no longer such “unevenness” in the exterior; now it was a more or less pleasant car with improved aerodynamic resistance. The interior of the car has also become much better and more beautiful, as has the new front panel. When it comes to quality alone, domestic automakers still have a long way to go.

Although, if we take the low cost of the sedan, it is completely justified, because the consumption was not so high, the power unit is fuel-injected and quite powerful, and the maintainability of the model was excellent. To this day, you can often see the VAZ-2110 on the roads of the Russian Federation and abroad, which continues to serve its owners.
