Modern cars are equipped with one or more connectors. However, they have long been used for purposes other than their intended purpose. Car owners connect additional devices to the car cigarette lighter socket. Among the most common:
- fan;
- portable electric compressor that pumps up car tires;
- traffic recorder;
- navigation system;
- charging device for electronic devices (phone, tablet, laptop).
Therefore, if the cigarette lighter stops working, this is fraught with inconvenience and hassle. Information on why the cigarette lighter on the VAZ 2112 model does not work, how to identify the cause of the malfunction and carry out repairs can be found in the article.
What does a cigarette lighter consist of and how does it work?
The device on the VAZ 2112 has a simple design. The cigarette lighter consists of two parts - a metal tube, inside of which there is a nichrome spiral, and a seat for it (socket). The plus is connected to the bottom, and the body is connected to the car body or ground.
When you press the insert, the cigarette lighter starts working: the contacts close and the coil heats up. When the temperature reaches its maximum value, the thermal relay is activated and the device snaps into its original position.
Where is the fuse for the fuel pump?
A frequent breakdown that is associated with the fuel system. is that the fuel pump fuse is blown. In this case, power is not supplied to the pump, and the fuel pump itself stops pumping gasoline into the main line. As a result, the car stalls, the pump does not buzz in the gas tank after turning the ignition key, and the engine does not start.
We also recommend reading the article on how to check the fuel pump relay with your own hands. From this article you will learn about where the fuel pump relay is located, as well as the available methods for checking it yourself.
Is there a standard cigarette lighter?
VAZ 2112 models that came off the assembly line are equipped with long, old-style instruments. Their disadvantage is that they do not provide reliable fixation of connected devices that are designed to meet European standards. As a result, cigarette lighters sometimes short out and refuse to work correctly.
Many owners decide to replace the device on the 2112 with a new device (see photo). The cost of such a cigarette lighter ranges from 600 to 1.5 thousand rubles. Too low a price indicates low-quality materials used in the production of the part. Therefore, you should discard such elements; they will quickly break.

tell me what is the reason? same issue today, I looked through everything, the front light is on and that’s it
solved a problem? Today the same bullshit came up
no ((you need to remove the wiring and look for what the problem is... it disappears then lights up again ((
There are usually two reasons, either the pump is about to die, or the wiring is frayed in the area of the engine oil filler neck.
hmm... I found another diagram 1 - ignition module, controller; 2 – canister purge valve, vehicle speed sensor, oxygen (heating) sensor, air flow sensor; 3 – fuel pump relay, fuel pump, injectors. Additional relays: 4 – electric fan relay; 5 – electric fuel pump relay; 6 – main relay (ignition relay).
It turns out that the canister purge valve fuse is on, the vehicle speed sensor, the oxygen (heating) sensor, the air flow sensor... omg so what's the problem?
Reasons why the cigarette lighter does not work
There are several situations why a device may fail. The most common reasons why the VAZ 2112 cigarette lighter does not work:
- short circuit;
- broken cigarette lighter wiring;
- blown fuse;
- weak contact;
- faulty spiral;
- burnt out backlight bulb.
Each breakdown situation is discussed in detail below.
The fuses on the cigarette lighter are burning
If the device on a VAZ 2112 stops working, then a burnt-out protective element may be the cause of the malfunction. The vehicle circuit in this area is protected by a 25 amp fuse. This means that devices with a total power of more than 300 W (12 volts * 25 amperes = 300 watts) cannot be connected to the cigarette lighter socket.
Otherwise, the protective element will burn out. A hint that it is the fuse that has “gave up” is the failure of the heater fan. If it does not work, it should be replaced. The location of the mounting block is to the left of the steering column, behind the decorative panel trim.
The element with index F-18 must be replaced. The fuse rating is 25 amperes. It is prohibited to install parts designed to carry high current. This may lead to short circuits, damage to wiring cables, and fire.
Broken or shorted wiring
You need to check where the fuse for the cigarette lighter of the VAZ 2110 is. If it is intact, but often burns, then you should check the serviceability of the cables. Due to a mismatch in the rating of the protective element or connecting too powerful devices, the wires may burn out, which causes a short circuit or damage to the cigarette lighter.
For diagnostics, you will need a multitester, which needs to ring all the wires suitable for the element, finding out their condition.
It's a matter of contacts or filament coils
Over time or due to intensive use, the connection inside the device on the VAZ 2112 may be broken. Incorrect connection of devices leads to loose sockets and poor contact. This can be treated by bending the metal tendrils on the cartridge and resoldering it.
With age, oxides or rust appear on the cigarette lighter, which has a bad effect on its operation. The situation can be corrected by treating the contact areas with a needle file. It is necessary to clean them and remove all traces of corrosion. Another malfunction is a burnt-out nichrome spiral. It is recommended to replace the device here.
Backlight
Around the socket itself there is a special light element that allows you to find the device in the dark. The backlight may stop lighting due to a broken filament. In this case, it is necessary to dismantle the cigarette lighter, remove the faulty element and replace it with a new light bulb.
Features of operating an engine with an injector
Currently, the vast majority of cars are produced with an injector. Meanwhile, some car enthusiasts, accustomed to carburetor units, sometimes incorrectly operate cars of the above-mentioned type. This often leads to the vehicle stalling immediately after starting the engine.
First of all you need to remember:
- disconnecting the battery should not be done while the power plant is running;
- It is better not to use the cigarette lighter unless absolutely necessary.
Careless handling of the power supply system will negatively affect the proper operation of the injector. It is always better to avoid disconnecting the mass. If this is not done, the information stored in the on-board computer may be lost.
Also:
- before moving off, it would be correct to leave the engine idling for several minutes;
- if charging and starting devices are used, there is a risk of the ECU (electronic control unit) burning out;
- the presence of a neutralizer in the circuit means that the car should not be started by towing or driving down a hill.
In the latter case, fuel enters the engine and does not burn. If it penetrates the converter, there is a risk of the vehicle catching fire.
It is important to prevent moisture from getting into the motor. To avoid this you must:
- change fuel filters in a timely manner;
- Use only fuel of proper quality.
Diagnosing cigarette lighter problems
If malfunctions occur, the device should be inspected to determine the cause of the failure.
- Turn on the heater fan. If it does not work, then the VAZ 2111 cigarette lighter fuse located in the mounting block has blown.
- We inspect the contacts on the device itself and its socket. If there are oxides or rust, remove them with a file.
- Visually inspect the cables coming to the device for fractures or breaks. We test the wires using a multitester. We turn it on for resistance, and then check each of the three cables coming to the device.
After identifying the problem, you can begin to repair the device.

Is there ESP? Along with the standard ESP wiring harness, I have a small white wire with its own single terminal. After the noise, it shorted on the body and also burned out. (you can just remove the ESP buttons and look inside).

Good day everyone! I have a VAZ 2110, 2004. The problem is similar. And I need your help! In general, it was like this: one day I decided to change all the panel and instrument panel lighting to LED (and took an LED strip). Before this, everything worked and glowed, but it was no good!
I removed the heater control unit, the air duct grille on which the picture of the heater damper position is illuminated, and, accordingly, the instrument panel. I went home and started soldering! First, I redid the air duct grille and the heater control unit, went and connected them in the car, the grille was on fire, the unit didn’t want to (I decided that I was tired and mixed up the polarity - that’s what happened). The next day I tidied it up, taped it around the entire perimeter (it took about 45 cm), and glued 4 cm tape under the monitor. I soldered the whole thing to the contact points of standard lamps - a long piece to one contact, a short piece to the other, and accordingly changed the polarity on the stove control unit. After which, to celebrate, I ran into the car to collect all this beauty! I connected everything and the moment of truth came. I turn on the headlights.. for a couple of seconds the grille and block lit up, but the instrument panel did not light up (except for the backlight in it. Everything worked, and the parking brake, battery and other small things lights were on, except for the headlights lamp itself), after which everything went out, it turned out fuse F1 has blown. Turned it off, changed the pre, turned it on, burned out again! I set it to 10A and there was none - the left side dimensions lit up, there was no panel, then I set it to 5A before - as it should! Then I turned the backlight control to maximum - the shield with the block blinked and now the front was burnt again. Turn down the regulator, change the pre, drive without backlight!

Before interfering with the circuit, you should understand the pinout. Three wires come to the device.
- Red is the positive contact, responsible for heating the coil. Powered by a battery through a fuse with index F18 (common for models 2110, 2111, 2112).
- Yellow – backlight, positive contact.
- Black – permanent negative wire. A mass connected to the device body at one end, and to the car body at the other.
Diagnosis - disassemble
The key reason for windshield wiper failure is the wear of the trapezoid bushings that transmit rotation to the wiper arms. Wear, of course, is a flexible concept. Thus, banal dry operation significantly reduces the speed of the mechanism. There are even cases of asynchronous operation, when one leash rotates as expected, and the second moves with a delay.
In advanced cases, the bushings jam, and the wipers completely stop responding to the driver’s commands. Basic observations will help you determine that the problem is really in them. When the windshield wipers are turned on, a heavy hum will appear in the area of the motor, and the on-board equipment lamps will noticeably dim.
The diagnosis in such a case is absolutely obvious - disassembly followed by troubleshooting. Perhaps everything can be done by smearing it with a thick compound that does not attract dust. It is quite possible that something else will happen: you will have to look for a new trapezoid. But in this matter there will most likely be difficulties. Owners of older foreign cars will have to look for spare parts at disassembly sites, and car dealers will have to study the difference between counterfeit and original. Yes, there are a lot of new parts for the same Priora, but there are no guarantees that the “new” one will be better than the previously used mechanism.
Another obvious thing. The trapezoid, whether used or new, needs revision. Simply lubricating the moving parts is enough and long-term trouble-free operation of the mechanism is ensured.
Next in line is the gear motor. The output shaft of the mechanism may suffer the same fate as the trapezoid bushings. The shaft supports suffer from poor-quality lubrication, slowing down the operation of the mechanism on the way to the trapezoid. Analyzing the state of the mechanism is not difficult. After dismantling the trapezoid, connect the electric drive to the on-board electrical network and evaluate its operation in various positions of the steering column switch.
Cigarette lighter of VAZ 2110 is closed
If the device fails, then you should look for the causes of the failure. It is quite easy to find out that there is a short circuit in the circuit.
- Turn the key in the ignition switch, turning it off.
- We measure the voltage of the battery when it is turned off.
- We turn on the ignition, and then measure the voltage again. If the indicator drops more than 0.5 volts, then there is a breakdown somewhere.
To find out the location of the break, you should arm yourself with a tester and ring all the wires for integrity. You can first visually inspect the cables - there should be no creases or breaks. Additionally, it is necessary to check the tightness of the cartridge in the metal connector. A loose device can also cause a short circuit.

Re: Resolved: Dimensional fuse blows
Mixail , at what point does it burn out? Often the cause of this may be problems in the contacts of the rear license plate light.

Re: Resolved: Dimensional fuse blows
Admin Mixail writes to me in a personal message (maybe somehow he can’t get to the forum) bought a 12, the instrument panel did not light up and the right side of the dimensions of the field in the block seemed to have blown, the fuse changed it, set it to 7.5, everything caught fire, worked for exactly ten minutes and burned out again, I’m changing it I turn on the size button, immediately the fuse blows, any light is on, I changed the size button, no result, the interior is completely dark, tell me where to flatter the wiring or change it? Expensive, but thanks in advance.

Re: Resolved: Dimensional fuse blows
where can I change the wiring?
You have a normal short circuit. In addition to the rear number, this short circuit may be in the light itself in the cabin - disassemble it and look. What year is the car? What kind of shield? There may be a problem in the dashboards, but usually this is a problem with old-style dashboards with a mechanical odometer - before 2001. If you cannot find the problem, solve it by elimination: Disconnect the entire rear wiring harness and check whether the dashboard backlight works. If it works, then we look further: we connect the rear harness, but disconnect all sources from it that could be the cause: lights, interior lights, license plate lights, etc. Naturally, if the fuse blows with the rear harness disconnected, that means the problem is at the rear and is cut off. Well, in general, it seems clear. If you are a little “friendly” with the wiring, it’s easy to figure out. The wire could also have frayed somewhere and shorted to ground. It can be found - if you understand at which source of current consumption - a short circuit. Good luck.

Design reasons for slow rotation of courtyards
VAZs are primarily distinguished by their poor factory preparation. At specialized auto forums, they are actively discussing an alternative electrical control scheme for a geared motor, intended for use on both the VAZ 2109 and the “ten” with Priora.
It cannot be said that three relays connected in a certain sequence have a noticeable effect on all machines. Most likely, the implementation lets us down. This system does not tolerate “twisted” wires, which are known to have large losses of electric current. Another thing is soldering or male-female terminals.
Troubleshooting Methods
If the wipers start to stop in the middle of the car's windshield, you must perform the following steps:
- check whether the windshield wipers are correctly installed on the drive splines and the condition of the trapezoid. Particular attention must be paid to the drive crank. If assembly errors are detected, they must be eliminated;
- carefully inspect the drive splines. They can chip, break or wear out, causing the splines to slip and the wipers not returning to their original position. Sometimes the wiper lever may jump out of its place.
The defect is eliminated by replacing worn parts.
Steering column switch (guitar)
Another reason why the wipers on the VAZ 2114 stopped working could be a breakdown of the steering column switch (the so-called “guitar”). Poor quality material and constant use of the switch quickly render it unusable. Failure to respond when the switch is turned on means it is broken. Extraneous sounds when the lever snaps open also indicate its mechanical failure. Check the contacts and clean them from dirt if necessary. A poor fit of the plug may cause it to malfunction.
