Replacing the internal door lock on VAZ 2113, 2114 and 2115

The lock cylinder (lock cylinder) is a type of lock security mechanism, in the form of a cylinder, the working part of which can be rotated in the body only when a key is inserted into the cylinder hole. The uninterrupted operation of the lock cylinder protects the car from unauthorized entry and protects the owner’s property. Therefore, a malfunction of the lock cylinder is a serious concern that requires an immediate solution, and many car enthusiasts are seriously thinking about how to change the lock cylinder of a VAZ 2114 with their own hands.

Reasons for replacing the VAZ 2114 lock cylinder

The mechanism is silent, but if an extraneous sound appears when opening the door element, the device will have to be dismantled or rebuilt. Replacing the front door lock cylinder on a VAZ 2114 is required for a number of reasons:

  • a sharp drop in temperature;
  • failure of the locking ring;
  • loss of the fixing column;
  • destruction of the plastic rod cap;
  • wear of internal pins and teeth.

In winter, the locking devices freeze, causing the key to turn with difficulty or not move. If a person makes an effort, then there is a risk of breaking the opening element in the core of the lock.

When individual parts wear out, they will cling to each other, blocking the rotation function. The main factor indicating a repair is turning the key.

Adjustment

The door of the VAZ 2109 is hanging

To adjust the doors on the “nine” you need to have only two tools with you:

Front doors

On the “nine” the front doors are adjusted as follows:

  • The position of the latch changes;
  • Before carrying out this procedure, you need to carefully outline the contours of the latch on the stand;
  • If the front door of the “nine” closes too tightly, then you need to loosen the bolts of the clamp, move it a little outward, and then tighten the screws thoroughly;
  • If the front door closes poorly, then the latch must be pushed inward.
  • If the door drops below the level when closing, then the latch must be raised;
  • If the door rises when closing, but sags in the open position, the latch must be lowered.
  • If you need to adjust the inner handle of the lock, you should move the bracket under the fastening screws. There are oval holes on the inner panel of the door that will help in this matter;
  • If the internal handle does not cope with its duties and the door does not open well, then the bracket bolts are loosened, the handle is moved to the desired position, and the screws are tightened.

Rear doors

The rear doors are adjusted as follows:

The bolts securing the hinges are loosened, the gaps between the body and the door (see Malfunctions of VAZ 2109 doors: how to fix them) are adjusted taking into account the draft and the screws are properly tightened.

Hood

Adjusting the door of a VAZ 2109

The procedure for adjusting the hood cover is as follows:

  • The height of the pin changes in relation to the front surfaces of the front wings and radiator trim. A pin and springs secure the hood in the closed position. The pin itself is screwed into the hood and locked with a lock nut. There are cups installed on it with a spring between them;
  • To adjust the hood cover, you need to loosen the hinge bolts, move the hood so that the gaps between it and the body are as they should be, and then tighten the screws thoroughly;
  • If the hood lid does not close well, then you need to loosen the fastening of the pin, move it until it matches the lock socket, and then tighten the lock nut thoroughly;
  • If the problem with closing the hood is in the lock, then with the hood open, you need to outline the contours of the lock body, and then move it to the desired position. After that, tighten the bolts and check how the lid closes.

Recommendations

Reassembling and lubricating individual parts will not work if the fragments are heavily worn. It is better to remove the cylinder from the core and install a new one. Recommendations for replacing the VAZ 2114 door lock:

  1. Partial repairs or lubrication will only temporarily restore life to the closing mechanism. If problems arise, it is better to replace the entire cylinder.
  2. After installation, it is necessary to periodically lubricate the mechanism. Experienced motorists use silicone substances for this.
  3. The repair procedure is carried out in a well-lit room at a comfortable temperature.
  4. To change the element, you will need a set of screwdrivers, pliers and lubricant.
  5. Sometimes the springs have to be replaced along with the cylinder. They are purchased separately.

The cylinder fragment is sold as a set. The price depends on the manufacturer. If you buy a cheap Chinese version, it will cost about 150 rubles. It is better to give preference to VAZ spare parts. The cost of such a kit is 400-500 rubles.

Ignition relay location

Finding the location of the ignition relay is quite simple, because this element in the VAZ-2114 injector is located on the left side of the steering wheel, and a decorative cover protects it from the eyes. A photo on an online resource will help you find out what this element looks like. In some cases, replacing an old relay with a new one does not require removing the protective casing. To do this, you just need to reach the relay with your hand, which you need to insert into a special hole located under the steering wheel.

But this replacement stage is not very convenient, so experts recommend that car owners still remove the protective cover when replacing the ignition relay, especially since such an operation is quite simple and easy.

Withdrawal procedure

Depending on the reason, a complete or partial replacement is performed. It is not recommended for the average person to engage in reassembly, since there are too many nuances in this process, but almost anyone can replace the mechanism. Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Three screws are unscrewed. They are located on the inside of the handle. To do this, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the cover.
  2. The front trigger glass position switch is removed along with the wiring harness block. To do this, the wires are first disconnected.
  3. The plug on the armrest handle is removed, the element is picked up with a thin corner of a screwdriver.
  4. Unscrew the 2 screws on the handle that hold the inner panel.
  5. The plastic clips are pressed out to remove the lining.
  6. 6 pistons are removed to remove the door card.
  7. The external fastenings are removed, the nuts are unscrewed with an 8mm wrench.

The last action is to gain access to cravings.

How to remove cravings

To remove this piece, you will need an impact screwdriver and a size 8 wrench. The piece is attached to the internal locking mechanism and the lock switch. Algorithm of actions:

  1. The internal lock of the outer handle rod is completely disconnected.
  2. The handle is removed along with the rods.
  3. The pin is removed from the end of the rods.
  4. The plastic tip is removed from the core of the cylinder device.
  5. The return spring is removed. The old larva is being removed.

Usually the rods are fixed with plastic hinges, so they can be disconnected with a flat-head screwdriver.

Installing a new part

The removal and assembly algorithm is the same, although the instructions for installing the cylinder mechanism have its own nuances. Before inserting a new cylinder into the core, the part is lubricated with a silicone substance and only then inserted into the handle. Further algorithm of actions:

  1. The return spring is inserted next to the cylinder.
  2. The functionality of the key is checked. It should turn easily in all positions.
  3. A pin is installed on the tip of the rotary rod. Connection is being made.
  4. The inner and outer panels are screwed on, the handles are fixed, and the plug is returned to its place.
  5. The main three screws are tightened from the inside.

You won’t have to change the lock cylinder for a long time if you carefully use the opening mechanism.

Preparation for installation

We purchase a lock kit. There are a lot of manufacturers of auto parts on the market now, but there are no special differences between the kits

It is important that the device has a warranty card and instructions for use and connection. Also in the box you will find:

Additionally, you need to stock up on a set of standard tools: pliers, screwdriver, screwdrivers, multimeter, drill with carbide drill bit. In addition to the standard accessories, immediately buy additional wires; it is quite possible that the length of those you find in the box will not be enough for you. Black heat-resistant insulating tape, corrugated tubes, and clips for fastening the trim will also be useful, since very often the trim of car elements is attached to disposable ones.

Trunk lock repair

As a rule, the trunk lock on VAZ cars lasts longer than door locks, which is caused by fewer openings/closings in an equal period of time. But, due to complete wear and tear (or loss of the keys), it still has to be replaced. In most cases, the lock mechanism itself, as well as its body, remains fully operational - only the cylinder into which the keys are directly inserted wears out. It will then need to be replaced with a new one.

To do this you will need:

  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • slotted screwdriver;
  • a set of keys.

The trunk lock cylinder of a VAZ 2114 is replaced as follows:

  1. Open the trunk.
  2. Remove the plastic rivets (“hedgehogs”) holding the plastic socket around the lock by picking them up with a slotted screwdriver or a special extractor.
  3. Remove the panel.
  4. Unscrew the fasteners holding the lock.
  5. Remove the lock.
  6. Unscrew the fastening screws holding the cylinder in the lock and remove it.
  7. Install a new cylinder inside the lock.

Reassembling the lock and installing it in place is performed in exactly the same order, but in reverse order.

New lock cylinders are sold with keys inserted into the keyhole. You should not remove them before the cylinder is installed inside the lock, since this threatens its individual elements falling out, which will be extremely difficult to install in place.

After the VAZ 2114 lock cylinder has been replaced and the lock itself has been installed in place, you should carefully inspect its counterpart, called the latch (the lock tongue goes behind it when the trunk is locked). In most cases, there is no need to replace the retainer because it has no moving parts and has a very long service life.

Replacement may only be necessary if a crack appears on the body of the clamp (it is made of silumin). The replacement process itself is simple and consists of unscrewing the old fastener and installing a new device.

The only thing you will need to pay attention to is the correct setting of the lock. To check its quality, you just need to close the trunk lid and see how it locks. If locking does not occur, it is too tight, or, on the contrary, a noticeable play is felt, then the lock is not adjusted.

To configure, you need:

  • loosen a pair of fastening bolts of the clamp;
  • close the trunk (at this moment the latch itself will adjust to the location of the lock tongue);
  • open the trunk;
  • tighten the retainer mounting bolts.

If after the adjustment procedure the trunk begins to lock even worse, then most likely the mating part of the locking element is skewed. It is enough to unscrew the fasteners, place it straight without moving the lock itself, tighten the bolts - and the trunk will be easy to lock.

Types of door handles

The handle squeaks when pressed

The most common problem and easily solved. Eliminate as follows:

  • unscrew the mounting plate using a screwdriver
  • disassemble the mechanism
  • lubricate all metal parts, such as WD-40
  • reinstall the handle.

The handle is loose

The handle on your door has become loose and there is a gap. Backlash is the gap between the contacting elements of the front door. How to fix it?

Most likely the locking screw is loose and needs to be tightened from the outside and inside.

If this does not help, then we disassemble the handle further. Remove the decorative ring and tighten all the screws or screws with a screwdriver. We do this on the inside and outside of the door.

Watch detailed video instructions on how to adjust the input handle if play appears.

The lock latch does not work

This happens when the latch tab stops working or the pin that operates the latch is not long enough.

How to check? You need to unscrew the fastening bar and check whether the lock tongue works. To do this, insert a screwdriver into the lock slot and turn it.

If the tongue works properly, the problem lies in the insufficient length of the pin. There are two solutions:

  • buy a new pin at any hardware store and cut the required length
  • Place wood chips or pieces of thick cardboard into this socket (on the end side of the handle) to “extend” the existing pin.

The pressure part of the handle fell off, but the mount remained in place

This happens when the retaining ring flies off the groove on the end part:

  • or because the ring burst
  • or because it has unclenched.

You need to check what exactly happened in the following way - unscrew the fastening bar and look at the condition of the ring. If it is whole, then bend it further. Then return the handle to its place and put the ring on top.

If the ring has burst, then you can only buy a new door handle.

Door handle square broke

If the door handle falls off or does not stay in the grooves, this may be due to a broken square inside the structure. The square is the base of the door handle. The main advantage is that the square can be purchased and replaced.

Choose a new square made of steel, preferably from the manufacturer of your door handle, so that it fits in size. If you can’t find it, you’ll have to cut it with a grinder to the size of the old square.

The handle does not return to its original position after pressing

This happens when a spring falls off or bursts. This part is located behind the retaining ring and connects all structural elements together.

To repair the spring, remove the retaining bar, remove the retaining ring, and secure the spring. If the spring has burst, you can replace it. But often finding a similar part becomes problematic. In this case, you need to buy a new handle entirely.

Replacing door locks

If your car doors become difficult to lock or unlock, you may need to replace the door locks. In order to do this, you will need new locks, as well as the same set of tools as to replace the trunk lock.

Before changing the locks on a VAZ 2114, you should disconnect the “mass” terminal from the battery so as not to provoke a short circuit and even a car fire.

The replacement itself is carried out in the following order:

  1. Remove the door trim.
  2. Disconnect the rods connecting the outer door handle to the lock.
  3. Remove the pair of screws securing the inner handle of the lock.
  4. Using a slotted screwdriver, disconnect the rod from the inner handle of the lock.
  5. Remove the handle from the door along with the rod.
  6. Remove the outer part of the lock.
  7. Disconnect the central locking wires.
  8. Remove the lock from the technological cavity of the door.
  9. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the pair of screws securing the switch.
  10. Rotate the switch until the slots on its lever align with the protrusions on the rod.
  11. Remove the switch.
  12. Squeeze the antennae of the plastic rod with slight force, and then dismantle it.
  13. Mark with a felt-tip pen the correct position of the latch on the door pillar.
  14. Remove the 3 screws holding the retainer in place (this is best done with an impact screwdriver).
  15. Remove the retainer and the shims underneath it.

Removing locks from other interior doors is done in exactly the same way. Reinstallation of locks and latches is carried out in the same order, but in reverse order.

That being said, there are a few important points to keep in mind.

  • First, before installation, all metal parts of the lock should be lubricated with thick lubricant.
  • Secondly, if necessary, you should adjust the length of the pull of the external handle - in this case, you need to ensure that the lock can be locked with a key without any difficulty.
  • Thirdly, you should adjust the new latch in the same way as when replacing the trunk lock.

Work order

Before replacing the trunk cylinder of VAZ 2115, 2113, 2114, the following is first dismantled:

    Unscrew the 3 screws at the bottom of the door trim.

Remove the cover, from under which the glass switch and block are also removed. These two components must be disconnected.

  • Remove the lining by unscrewing the 2 screws in the handle fastening.
  • Carefully remove the six pistons located in the door panel (it is impossible to continue without this step).
  • Unscrew the two nuts that secure the handle externally.

  • Disconnect the locking mechanism, which is connected to the outer handle lock switch, and at the same time connected to the inner rod lock.
  • Remove the outer handle and the pin located in the rod end.
  • Remove the plastic tip located in the cylinder.

    Get the larva. It only needs to be removed together with the key.

    Now you can begin installing the new cylinder into the locking device.

    1. Make preparations - unpack and lubricate moving parts.
    2. Insert a new spring (purchased separately). If the spring is installed correctly, the key in the hole easily turns back.

  • Install the pin in the steering rod end.

  • Further installation is carried out in the opposite order to that described above. Here the master will find the photographs taken during disassembly very useful.
  • To illustrate the replacement of the VAZ 2114 lock cylinder and other modifications, you can watch the video:

Reasons for replacing the lock cylinder on a VAZ

Most often, the lock cylinder in the doors of VAZ-2113, 2114 and 2115 has to be changed in the following cases:

  1. In case of defects or breakages of the locking ring or fixing post. Both of these parts are located in a plastic rod cap and are easily destroyed under the influence of an aggressive external environment - during large temperature changes, in the cold season, etc. The problem is often discovered when a car owner tries to open the car in cold weather. The key starts to turn, but the mechanism does not work. If the cylinder is additionally loaded at this moment (for example, by pressing the door, knocking on it, pushing or pulling), the part will come out of the handle socket.
  2. When worn. During the operation of the car, the internal pins of the device wear out and when you try to turn the key in the cylinder, the parts begin to cling to each other, which ultimately leads to their destruction.
  3. If the car owner decides to upgrade the door handles or install European locks.
