Upper raised floor organizer made of moisture-resistant plywood 8 mm for Lada X Ray / Lada X-Ray

The trunk is an important element that tips the scales in one direction or another when deciding to buy a car. Especially a family car, when it is necessary to regularly transport things such as a stroller or bicycle, or a large supply of groceries at the dacha. All this was taken into account when creating one of the most popular models of domestic cars - Lada X Rey. An important feature of the trunk is not only its volume, but also the ease of loading and unloading, the ability to transform and fix the lid.

Organizer for the trunk of Lada XRAY (modification of the raised floor)

The new AVTOVAZ product (Lada XRAY) has many features. For example, this crossover uses LED running lights for the first time, and the trunk has a double bottom (raised floor or subfloor 10 cm high). The disadvantage of this luggage space is that the things in it move randomly and rattle when the car moves. Let's look at a simple way to properly organize the space of a standard Xray raised floor.

The idea for modification is to install delimiters, which can be made from pieces of plywood 8 mm thick. Their dimensions are shown in the diagram:

For aesthetics, you can cover the resulting parts with self-adhesive carpet (or use a furniture stapler for covering). After installing such an organizer in the XRAY trunk, the sides of the structure will rest against the plastic trim, and at the back against the trunk opening. Only the edges near the rear seats are not trimmed; there we leave a distance of 2-3 cm.

The resulting demarcated space under the boot floor prevents items from moving around during travel. Another advantage of this design is that it is assembled without a single nail and, if necessary, can be neatly folded and put aside.

The process of making the organizer is also shown in the video:

Let us remind you that the trunk volume of the crossover cannot be called large (only 361 liters). Consider XRAY roof rack options.

Folding raised floor

Wanting to be on trend, Little by little upgrading the equipment of my Xray to the Top level))), I made a raised floor, but not a simple one, but a gold one with a folding half, for convenience and quick access to the bins of the homeland. I found a drawing of a standard raised floor for the Xreys here. In Ob I bought a sheet of FSF plywood measuring 1220x810 and 9mm thick. After taking measurements of the trunk, I decided not to do it as stock. According to the measurements, it turned out that a sheet measuring 945x810mm fits normally and there is still a little gap left for the thickness of the carpet. However, I was very lucky with the width of the sheet. As a result, a 275mm strip was simply sawed off from a sheet of plywood, from which I might later make some partitions (or maybe not, as always, it all depends on laziness))). I also tried on the back side and cut out pieces for the raised floor supports and a slot for the piece of iron. And when I tried this first option on in place, the thought came to me that if you suddenly need to crawl under the raised floor, and there are already bags, backpacks, packages (in moderate quantities) in the trunk, then you will have to either unload the trunk, which is lazy, or lift the whole swag on this sheet of plywood. Therefore, it is necessary to make a folding half. A distance of 36 cm was measured from the side closest to the bumper and the false floor was sawn into two parts. Both parts were sanded and painted with something like a stain and varnish from Leroy. As a loop I used a wide 5cm corsage ribbon, glued it to Moment-88 and additionally nailed it with 6mm staples.

Ambush - the first attempt to fold the shelf into place in the trunk ended in failure, it did not go “on top”. I had to saw off the 3x3 corners (circled in red). At the same time, it turned out to be an unexpected life hack - it was no longer necessary to use a collective farm handle for lifting the shelf, especially since I forgot about it when I further covered it with carpet)))

I decided to leave it like this, because no one will ever see the unpasted distant part (or almost no one)

So that the folding raised floor could lie in the trunk without any crossbars, the following stops were cut from thick getinaks:

They were covered with carpet and glued to the plastic of the sides of the trunk with double-sided tape. The adhesive tape does not carry any load; it is only needed to secure the supports to the plastic. I hope they don’t come off, otherwise it will be self-tapping screws or MS-polymer.

PURPOSE OF THE SECOND RAISED FLOOR LADA XRAY

This accessory is installed on the skids on top of the lower (original or alternative) raised floor. Exact size matching allows it to fit without gaps in the XRay trunk. The product is made of thick plywood and can withstand local loads of up to 100 kg, so you can place any loads on it that will be significantly heavier than those that the original trunk floor can withstand. The outside is completely upholstered in carpet, is pleasant to the touch and fits perfectly into the interior of the luggage compartment.

It consists of three sections, fastened together with hidden hinges, and has a hole in the middle section for easy folding. Thanks to its folding design, it can be transformed in different ways to gain access to both the space underneath (things and tools can be placed between the upper and lower floors) and the spare tire and accessories under the lower floor. When folded, it forms a flat floor.

Lada Xray trunk: a lot or a little?

So, we don’t know whether the trunk volume of 361 liters can be considered sufficient, large or small for the Lada xray. This number is not the limit for cars, so comparisons will have to be made with other vehicles of the same class. For example, the X Ray trunk volume is only 9 liters less than the Hyundai Solaris and 28 liters less than the KIA Rio. At the same time, it has significantly greater capacity than the trunks of the Renault Sandero and Ford Fiesta. In this regard, for the Lada Xray, a trunk of such capacity looks quite acceptable and even a good solution, and in terms of this functionality alone the car can compete with foreign analogues. Perhaps the above comparison is not entirely correct, but such high hatchbacks in this price range, available to domestic consumers, are a rare occurrence, and it remains to be compared with the foreign cars most familiar to our average person.

In general, modern passenger cars are equipped with trunks with a volume of 300 to 500 liters, if you do not take into account purely sports models or semi-trucks with a universal body, which are rarely sold and are produced in limited quantities. Therefore, we can conclude that for a Lada Xray car the trunk volume is 361 liters. can be considered average for all passenger cars, regardless of class. A significant increase in the size of the X-ray trunk can lead to either an increase in the dimensions of the car or a decrease in the usable space of the cabin, which will be primarily felt by passengers.

We transform the X-Ray interior into a sleeping place.

Today we have a compact crossover - Lada X-Ray.
The car has a hatchback appearance and good ground clearance (especially in the cross-country version), thanks to which the car is actively used by fans of non-extreme travel with the ability to go a little further than an ordinary puzoter, where a transformable interior will be very useful. It’s not for nothing that the manufacturer called its brainchild “compact”; the interior and luggage compartment are, indeed, quite ascetic in size for a crossover. In the photo below you can see the dimensions in cm.

But you can still organize a sleeping place in X-Ray. And in two ways.

Method one:

  • We lower the backs of the rear seats to the maximum possible horizontal position;
  • We remove the front headrest from the front passenger seat and lower the back of the seat to a horizontal state and remove the luggage rack;
  • We get a sleeping place with a width of 100 cm, a length of 195 cm in its longest part, 150 cm in its shortest part. The main advantage is that the bed is suitable for fairly tall people. But a place with some surface differences, which can only be smoothed out with an inflatable mat.

Method two:

  • We move the front seats as far forward as possible and lower the backrests towards the windshield.
  • Remove the lower part of the rear seat. To do this, find the latches on the back side and pull them up, then remove the front latches from the grooves and remove the lower part of the structure.
  • We bring the back of the rear seat to a horizontal position. In the space between the front seats and the back of the rear seat we put any soft things that we always have when traveling.
  • We have a sleeping area 178x100 cm with a completely horizontal surface. We put a rug on top - the sleeping place is ready.

Well, a small addition. The transformable X-Reys in the article have a raised floor, which is what makes the surface of the final bed flat. If your yard does not have this option, you will have to additionally level out this unevenness.

Vesta raised floor in the trunk

The luggage compartment of the Lada Vesta in the SV Cross configuration has a raised floor (removable floor). It consists of two panels that are interchangeable with each other. If you fold down the rear seats and create a flat floor, you can use raised floor panels on the rear and front sides.

Under the raised floor there are two interchangeable organizers, as shown in the picture. The volume of the luggage compartment can be increased to transport large cargo. To do this, the organizer frames are installed on top of the raised floor.

Raised floor panels cannot be used without the support of the organizer, otherwise they may be damaged.

If the panel is installed at an angle, it is prohibited to drive the vehicle. This may damage the panel. When installing or removing the removable trunk floor, be careful not to injure yourself.

Today, in many online stores and car dealerships you can buy raised floors for Vesta and other cars. You can also make it yourself.

Self-production

After buying a car, you want everything in it to be convenient and comfortable. But this car only has a double floor in the luggage compartment in the Luxury version. Making a raised floor with your own hands is not so difficult - be patient, materials and tools. After this, the trunk of your Lada Vesta will be fully equipped.

TRUNK EQUIPMENT UNDER THE RAISED FLOOR

Good afternoon everyone.

The 2nd month of using Xray is coming to an end. The speedometer shows a little - 1280 km. There have been no long trips yet, mostly urban travel. I'm happy with the car. Everything is working as normal. Gasoline consumption is approximately 10 - 10.5 liters in the city.

I haven't gotten used to the short 1st and 2nd gears yet. I haven’t figured out for myself whether this is good or bad (that they are short). When accelerating from a standstill, they need to be switched too quickly, which is not always convenient. But when taxiing through city yards, you roll in first gear, as if in low gear, without rushing. On Niva, this usually happened in second gear. In short, you need to get used to it. The 3rd, 4th and 5th gears are simply pleasing with their elasticity, allowing you to accelerate vigorously over a very wide range.

Conveniences include air conditioning and a rear view camera. On the advice of a friend who has been driving a Lada Vesta for almost a year, I set the temperature regulator to 22-23 degrees, turn on the “auto” mode and the system works quietly. It’s fresh in the cabin, but not cold, and outside it’s about plus 30. Comfortable. They say the same approach works in winter.

The rear view camera, of course, does not replace the need to look in the side mirrors. But the viewing angle in it is much wider, which is very convenient when starting out of a parking lot or rolling out of an obstacle in reverse, because You can see vehicles walking along the roadway, which sometimes you can’t see because of the car standing next to you until you lean back on the floor of the building.

But multimedia control with steering wheel switches could be made more functional. For example, you have to manually select a phone number in the address book on the screen, which is very inconvenient when moving. Isn’t it possible to “scroll through” contacts using the joystick on the steering wheel and then confirm? The same goes for choosing radio channels or audio tracks. It seems to me that this can be solved at the software level. Perhaps there are some firmwares. Need to search.

I wanted to focus on the luggage compartment and its improvement.

Let me remind you that my car was equipped with a removable lid in the trunk, which is called a false floor. It turned out that this solution is not new at all; many auto manufacturers use it on their cars. The idea itself is not bad, although it has its pros and cons, as well as opponents and supporters. Anyone who wants can do without this very lid, no question. But since it already exists, I think we need to use the positive aspects of this design.

The main advantage of a raised floor is that all small items that are not used immediately can be put away under the lid and will not get in the way when using the main compartment. Such things as a bandoleer with a tool, a warning triangle, a tow rope, a compressor, a hatchet, a small shovel and other delights that you don’t want to go to the garage for, although you don’t use them every day (like “suddenly tomorrow in forest"). The height of the space under the raised floor is not great - about 90 mm, so you can’t push much there, but, nevertheless.... If you need to get something out of the “underground”, you can lift the lid and fix it in special stops at an angle of about 20 degrees. You don’t have to fix it - you hold the lid with one hand, and with the other you take the necessary thing. Of course, if there is some cargo on the lid, it may have to be removed from the trunk first. But I think such issues of self-organization and planning are inevitable, because... You can’t foresee everything. When preparing for a long trip, more important things should initially be within reach, less important things can be moved “down”. In the end, you can generally leave this very cover at home or put it at the bottom of the trunk.

This is where the “tricky nuances” arise. The floor cover itself is made of cellular plastic and covered with fleecy material – carpet. Its load capacity is not great - about 25 kg of concentrated load (as written in the instructions) or 50 kg of distributed weight. I put a bag of potatoes in - and aha, the lid is in half! There are already stories on forums about broken or dented covers. But there are also descriptions of designs on how to strengthen these covers. Moreover, this applies not only to Xray, otherwise it will start now - “they say, this is AvtoVAZ, they can’t do anything.” The craftsmen found very simple and acceptable solutions to the situation. Their meaning is that a structure with walls is installed under the floor, which play the role of stiffening ribs and take the weight of the load placed on the raised floor. At the same time, a kind of organizer is created under the floor, so that the things lying “below” are organized and do not dangle from side to side. On YouTube there are descriptions of similar homemade products for a wide variety of cars - Kalina, Duster, Octavia, Sportridge, UAZ, Niva, etc. The processes of their manufacture and installation are shown in great detail. I haven’t seen a video about Xray yet.

A reasonable question arises for accessory manufacturers: why are there no factory organizers? After hanging around the car market looking for similar accessories for my car, talking with the sellers, I found out that such things are not often ordered, they are expensive. Even through online stores. For Xray, I have found only one thing on the Internet so far - some T-shaped plastic wall panels with Velcro, which must be installed under the raised floor in the form of partitions. Their cost without delivery is from 600 rubles each. We need three pieces. There were also photos there. Perhaps the system is working. I haven't tried it. I did it my way. Why? More on this below. It’s worth saying that I came across a video where our car colleague was finishing up a factory organizer for a KIA Sportridge. This was an interesting thing, in the form of a large plastic pencil case with a bottom and compartments for various little things. Just the right size for the trunk. Looks solid. But the guy had to replace the full-size spare tire, which was lying in a niche under the floor, with a spare tire, and select fasteners for it. This pencil case wouldn't fit any other way. If I'm not mistaken, this pleasure cost around 6000-7000 rubles. Not cheap, of course, but I wouldn’t refuse such a standard plastic organizer specifically for Xray. Alas, I have not encountered this yet.

So we come to another constructive “nuance”. Spare wheel, or rather its location. In many modern cars, the spare tire is placed horizontally in a niche under the trunk floor (and the Xray is no exception). Therefore, in order to get to it, if necessary, you need to remove some of the things from the trunk. This, frankly speaking, is not always convenient, and God forbid that it happens rarely. But there is nowhere to go, we have to adapt.

When making the organizer for my Xray, I provided the possibility of access to the spare tire. The photo shows the main points when adjusting and installing the organizer case itself. My pencil case has a bottom, consists of three compartments, and occupies half of the “underground”. The remaining half forms a fourth compartment for longer items such as a shovel. The total size of the box is approximately 940 by 360 mm. It is made of 10 mm thick plywood – these are the walls and partitions. The bottom is plywood 6 mm thick. Drawer height – 90 mm. Covered with carpet using special glue for carpet (that’s what it’s called), which I bought at the car market. The box turned out to be heavy - about 4 kg. The asking price is a little less than 1000 rubles and a week of fussing in the evening after work. On the Internet I came across an option made of foam-plastic material (I don’t remember its correct name, foam inside, plastic outside) 30-40 mm thick, also covered with carpet. Looks neat and much lighter. But it has no bottom. Having a bottom allows me to remove the entire box with all its contents at once, either “outside” or by sliding it onto the folded backrests of the rear seats, thereby opening access to the spare tire. If there was no bottom, naturally, the entire contents of the “underground” would have to be thrown somewhere. To make it easier to remove the box, there are two handles in the central partitions. On the Internet there are options for a separate homemade hatch above the spare tire (I wanted to make one for myself too), but the Xray’s spare tire niche occupies almost the entire trunk, so an option with a box was born. I tested the resulting structure with its own weight (~ 90 kg) - I sat on the raised floor cover, it didn’t even bend. Of course, from a design point of view, the organizer is not made perfectly. As they say - the first pancake, but I won’t say that it’s completely lumpy. I'll give it a ride and see how it works in the future. So far so good, because... The main goal - strengthening the lid and creating an organizer - has been achieved. Photos of the organizer are attached.

Good luck to everyone on the roads!

Work progress

For work you will need sheets of plywood 8 mm thick. Cross members will need to be cut out of it. Below are approximate height and width parameters.

IMPORTANT! The top bar must be completed in 2 copies.

When the required pieces of plywood are ready, you need to cut grooves in them for installation. This solution will allow you to do without the use of sealant, glue or nails, and therefore the structure can be disassembled at any time.

After combining and trying on such a homemade organizer in the trunk of the Lada X-Ray, you will need to paste it with some soft material, preferably black. The best option for such work is self-adhesive carpet. However, you can fix the material with glue or a stapler. For complete pasting you need up to 1 m² of carpet.

Trunk of Lada X Rey: volume, features, modification options

The trunk is an important element that tips the scales in one direction or another when deciding to buy a car. Especially a family vehicle, when it is necessary to regularly transport items such as a baby stroller or bicycle, or a large supply of groceries for the dacha. All this was taken into account when creating one of the most popular domestic car models - Lada X Ray. An important characteristic of the luggage compartment is not only its volume, but also the ease of loading and unloading, the possibility of transformation, and the fixation of the lid.

Trunk characteristics

The new AvtoVAZ model Lada X Ray compares favorably with other cars of this manufacturer not only in appearance, but also in its impressive size:

  • the length of the car is 416.4 cm,
  • height 157 cm,
  • width 175.4 cm.

Trunk characteristics

The new AvtoVAZ model Lada X Ray compares favorably with other cars of this manufacturer not only in appearance, but also in its impressive dimensions:

  • car length 416.4 cm,
  • height 157 cm,
  • width 175.4 cm.

With such dimensions, the designers easily managed to make a large and functional trunk:

  • volume 376 l,
  • length 790 mm,
  • width 900 mm
  • height 400 mm at the roof rack.

An important parameter is the opening of the lid, which determines the size of the transported goods. In Lada X Rey it is impressive: height 80 cm, width 90 cm.

The X Ray trunk lid is easily opened using an electric motor, just press the lock button. The stand sits 181.5 cm above the ground, allowing most people to walk underneath it without fear of collision. The absence of a rear trunk wall makes loading and unloading very convenient.

If you need to transport cargo up to 170 centimeters long, you can easily increase the trunk capacity by folding the rear seatbacks, while its useful volume will increase to 1207 liters. With the rear seats folded down, the trunk can be used to accommodate two people of average height, which will be quite comfortable. If you need to carry a large volume of cargo, the right front seat can be folded, increasing the useful volume to 1,300 liters.

For ease of use of the luggage space, a raised floor is provided. If necessary, it can be easily removed, and the car owner will have access to the lower floor covering and spare wheel. Eye bolts are installed at the corners of the raised floor, which are used for fastening rubber halyards, nets and other cargo securing systems.
