Types of radiators

Radiators differ in case material, its quality and assembly method:

  • Prefabricated . The very first and cheapest cooling elements that used a mechanical method, where the components were connected mechanically. No expensive material was used and the work was not particularly difficult.
  • Brazed copper . The more expensive analogue of the previous type of spare part is practically no different in operation, but it is many times better quality and stronger than the prefabricated one. The main advantages of this type of radiator are good heat conductivity and the possibility of its repair: damaged areas can be soldered and used further. The price ranges from 1000 to 3000 rubles .
  • Aluminum welded . It has a one-piece body and design where the latest welding methods are used. They are the most reliable and durable compared to other types. The obvious disadvantage of an aluminum radiator lies in its material, because, as you know, aluminum is not the best heat conductor, but has better heat transfer. And they cope with this by increasing the area of ​​the radiator itself. The price is almost no different from the price of an aluminum radiator.

  10. Disconnect the heater element and replace it with a new one. Remove the part carefully: first lift it up, then move it a little and pull it down. This will make it easier for you to remove it.

How to properly wash the injector on a VAZ 2109 car

To clean the fuel injectors from tarry deposits that appear due to poor quality fuel poured into the gas tank, it is sometimes enough to wash the injector on a VAZ 2109. This can be done in a specialized workshop or with your own hands. The work process is as follows:

Purchased: flushing fluid, syringe, set of new candles.

Advice: It is better to do the work with an assistant who will press the accelerator pedal to maintain the required engine speed.

  • Mix 1.5 - 2 liters of gasoline, which is usually poured into the tank, and flushing liquid.
  • The hood opens.
  • On the hose connecting the intake manifold and the vacuum brake booster, the rubber adapter tube is disconnected.
  • Using a syringe, the prepared mixture of washing liquid and gasoline is poured into it.
  • About 20 minutes is enough for all the growths inside the device to come off.
  • The assistant gets behind the wheel and the engine starts. The accelerator pedal must be held down, otherwise the engine will not maintain speed due to the tube being disconnected.
  • The mixture is injected.

Tip: High pressure in the tube can cause the syringe to be pulled inward, so you need to gently press it, and the liquid will flow into the tube itself.

There is no need to pay attention to the black pieces of garbage flying out of it and the emanating puffs of white smoke. All this may be accompanied by various sounds, especially in VAZ 2109 cars, injector cleaning, which have not been carried out for more than three years

Tip: You need to pour in the washing mixture in small portions, this will wash the device better.

  • When all the mixture is finished, the engine is turned off and time is given to cool down.
  • A new set of spark plugs is installed.
  • The engine workplace is wiped with a dry cloth.

For VAZ 21099, how to flush the injector is clearly shown in the video. If the injectors are covered with a crust of dark-colored varnish, it is difficult to clean by simple washing. Therefore, for prevention, it is necessary to fill the gas tank with cleaning additives after 5,000 - 6,000 kilometers. The price of the cleaning product is affordable; one bottle is enough for 60 - 89 liters of fuel. This method is more often used to clean injectors on new cars.

Tip: There is no need to clean a contaminated injector with solvent. Dirt deposits can travel through the fuel lines from the gas tank to the rail and injectors, which can completely clog the intake channels and settle on injector filters made of nylon. Solvent is ineffective for removing such deposits, so its use is not only dangerous, but also a wasteful exercise.

It is better to clean the injector using special equipment using adapters to the injector ramp. In this case, the instructions suggest:

  • Disconnect: fuel filter, fuel lines, gas tank.
  • Turn on the engine and let it run for 40 - 50 minutes with a special flushing mixture supplied under a pressure of approximately 6 atmospheres. This time is enough for the flushing agent to remove dirt from the injectors, ramp, valve and combustion chamber.
  • Install new spark plugs.
  • To remove any remaining flushing mixture from the engine fuel system, you need to drive the car for several kilometers at high speed.

In ventilation mode, the main door closed the heat exchanger, forming, together with the front wall of the housing, another channel through which the flow went directly into the air ducts.

Newer model heaters (on 1998 vehicles) had a much smaller radiator angle than older heaters, which are believed to provide a larger area of ​​airflow contact for heat transfer.

The position and shape of the main flap changes (it becomes arched). It began to sit above the radiator. In the closed position (ventilation mode), the damper ensures air movement along the shortest path to the air ducts. In heating mode, it blocked the cold air supply to the air ducts and directed the flow down into the housing, from where it was directed to the heat exchanger.

Expansion tank and its plug

Well, it is impossible to single out the most important element of the system. Here every little thing plays almost a major role. Even the cooling system of the VAZ 2109, the carburetor if installed in the injection system, has one important part - an expansion tank and a plug. At the very beginning it was mentioned that constant pressure is maintained in the system, due to which circulation improves many times. But this is not the last advantage of the sealed type of cooling.

On a VAZ 2109 car, the cooling system works in such a way that the liquid at high pressure boils not at 100 degrees, but at a higher value. This means that it becomes more difficult to destroy the engine. And the expansion tank plug helps maintain pressure. It has two mechanical valves - for inlet and outlet. Heater radiator: how to replace and choose a new one

The heater radiator in the VAZ 2109, no matter how long and how well it works, always starts leaking suddenly. Usually you notice either drops of antifreeze on the passenger mat, if it begins to flow along the seams at the edges of the radiator, or you find antifreeze under the mats, if it flows deeper - in the area of ​​​​the stove pipes or the faucet of the VAZ 2109 stove. If this happens, it’s time to think about replacing the radiator stoves, and also about which new stove radiator to choose. This is what we will talk about today. I’ll tell you based on my practical experience, since recently a similar fate befell my car - it started dripping onto the front passenger’s rug from somewhere on the left from under the panel. Looking there, we found leaks along the edges of the radiator. It should be noted that antifreeze flows from the edges of the radiator into the area of ​​the pipe clamps, so at first you might think that the connection between the lower pipe of the heater and the rubber hose is leaking. However, by tightening the appropriate clamp, we make sure that the leak does not decrease - which means it’s time to change the radiator.

Choosing a stove radiator

There are several types of heater radiators for the VAZ 2109 - original aluminum, non-original aluminum and copper. A copper radiator is much more expensive than an aluminum one, but it can be soldered in case of a leak, and it is more reliable than aluminum. Also, according to reviews, it is colder, and it is not available everywhere. Now let's see how the original radiator differs from the non-original one. Firstly - the price. The original costs at least 750 rubles, while the non-original may well cost 450 rubles. Now let’s pay attention to the radiator plates: in the original they are located much closer to each other - there is a larger heat transfer area. Also, the edges of such a radiator do not bend so easily, and the design of the original VAZ radiator itself is stronger.

Therefore, with an original radiator, the air from the heater nozzles begins to warm up already at a coolant temperature of 60 degrees, while with a non-original radiator the heat will only reach closer to 90 degrees - you will freeze during short trips. Also inside the original radiator there are coolant swirlers in the form of spiral ribbons in the radiator tubes. They increase its operating efficiency due to the fact that the coolant does not fly through the radiator under the pressure of the pump, but is slowed down by them and rotates, transferring heat to the radiator more efficiently.


I can’t say how to determine their presence in non-original ones, no one will let you disassemble the radiator when buying, but I think that they should rattle a little inside if you shake the radiator. Therefore, I recommend only the original. Its packaging looks like this:

Replacing the stove radiator

To replace the heater radiator on a VAZ 2109 according to the instructions, you need to remove the entire front panel. However, if you have a tall panel, many people do the following. You need to unscrew all the screws securing the panel to the car body, remove the steering casing and simply move the right edge of the panel into the cabin with the help of an assistant.

In this position, the heater radiator should pass just between the glove compartment and the glove compartment.

When using this method, I recommend moving the panel away carefully so as not to tear anything off; under the steering wheel there are bundles of wires from the ignition switch and alarm elements that can be attached to the panel; all this needs to be detached from it.

There is also this method, although you will have to cut up the instrument panel. You can make the bottom shelf removable, which prevents you from removing the radiator from the stove body. To do this, you can saw it off, and then attach it to self-tapping screws, and remove it later when replacing the heater radiator.

True, on injection machines, an additional block with a relay hangs under the bottom shelf, so the bottom shelf must be securely fastened. But changing the radiator is a pleasure!

A YouTube channel subscriber came up with the idea to make a video about the rubber radiator pipes of the VAZ 2114 and the heater pipes of the VAZ 2114, just like his car. This video was filmed at the request of Boris Zverev, and the article was edited on the initiative of Albert Aukhadullin.

Let's start with the steam exhaust hose of the cooling system. This hose serves to remove steam from the radiator to the expansion tank. The length of this product is slightly more than one meter, the diameter of the internal hole is 8 mm.

This hose is installed on VAZ 2108, 2109, 21083, 2113, 2114 and VAZ 2115 models with injection and carburetor engines.

On models of the “ten” family, the same hose is installed as in the photo above, catalog number 2110-1303095.

Next we will consider the hoses installed to heat the throttle assembly.

These are inlet and outlet hoses for coolant. The diameter of the hose when measured with a school ruler is about 10 mm, and the length is 48 cm.

Stages of replacing a VAZ stove radiator

To replace the radiator of the VAZ 2109 stove, you do not need to remove the entire panel, as is written on many instructions; I will tell you how to do this without unnecessary hemorrhoids and with little time. So let's get started:

If you have a VAZ 2109, then you need:

  1. Drain the antifreeze.
  2. Remove the panel trim.
  3. Remove part of the speedometer panel.
  4. Remove the heater trim (which is located below near the gearshift lever).
  5. Unscrew the panel mounting screws.
  6. Pull the panel with the help of an assistant from the left edge.
  7. Unscrew the clamps that secure the pipes to the faucet (be careful, the remaining antifreeze may leak)
  8. Unscrew the 3 screws securing the heater radiator cover. (There will be problems with the 3rd screw. Ask an assistant to pull the panel harder)
  9. OK it's all over Now. All you have to do is take out the old radiator, which just fits into the space between the glove compartment and the magazine shelf, install a new one and assemble everything in reverse order (Be careful not to tear off the wires from the ignition and alarm switch)

And finally, a couple of tips:

  1. Don't wait until winter, it's better to do it this summer.
  2. Before installing a new stove radiator, peel it off along the edge with foam rubber, just as the old one was covered.
  3. After replacing the heater radiator, it is better to go to an overpass and stand so that the front is much higher than the rear of the car and rev it up. This will reduce the likelihood of an air lock in the radiator.

Heating of the interior of any car is provided by air, which is heated in the heater radiator. The VAZ 2109 heater radiator is connected in parallel to the main radiator, which is part of the cooling system of a car engine.

The heater itself is secured with four nuts in the passenger compartment under the instrument panel to bolts that are welded to the air supply box. The air heated in the heater is directed through an air duct system into the passenger compartment. The air ducts are attached to the instrument panel from below and sealed with gaskets.

Typical faults

If the VAZ 2108 heater motor is broken, you can understand this by comparing some symptoms:

  1. If the motor does not work when switching operating modes, the cause of the breakdown may be hidden in the resistor. When repairing, you need to replace the resistor with a new one, because it cannot be repaired.
  2. If the fuse is blown, you need to check the insulation of the armature located on ground. There may be a short circuit.
  3. If, when switching modes, the VAZ 2108 heater fan rotates at the same speed, this may be a consequence of contamination or oxidation of the collector. In case of repair, it is worth cleaning the collector and, if nothing has changed and the fan continues to act up, you can replace the bearings.

If the VAZ 2108 stove motor does not even show signs of life, then the reason is not in its design, but in a broken circuit. To find out if this is true, you can use a voltmeter.

Features of the fan and thermostat VAZ 21093, 2109, 21099

The electric fan includes an electric motor and a four-blade impeller, the blades of which have a variable angle of inclination and pitch to reduce noise levels. To increase efficiency, the VAZ fan system is equipped with a casing attached to brackets.

The electric fan is mounted on rubber bushings. The fan is triggered by a signal from a sensor installed in the radiator tank. In this case, the contact closure temperature is approximately 99'C, and the fan shutdown temperature is 94'C.

The system thermostat provides priority warming up of the engine and regulates the thermal regime. The optimal coolant temperature is within 90-98'C. The thermostat includes a body and a cover, rolled together with the valve.

Features of the VAZ injector cooling system

Cooling in cars 21093,2109,21099 is liquid, but you need to understand that the radiator is cooled by the flow of incoming air and a fan, which increases the cooling intensity. Also, part of the heat is removed by the car's interior heater radiator at low temperatures.

The expansion tank is designed to compensate for the volume of liquid when heating, to top up and control the level of antifreeze.

The temperature sensor provides control of the cooling system, allows you to monitor the engine temperature and regulate the operation of the fan.

The entire operating cycle of the cooling system is controlled using a power unit control system that takes into account all temperature parameters. It determines the optimal switching conditions and operating time of the structural elements of the system.

Some useful tips

Finally, here are some tips to ensure that your car heater serves you for as long as possible.

  1. When deciding to replace the heater core, do not skimp. It is better to buy a high-quality original part once than to bother with its repair or replacement every year.
  2. Never use products of dubious origin and composition as coolants.
  3. Do not allow the radiator to remain idle for long periods of time without fluid. Even in summer, open the heater tap at least once a month to circulate coolant through it.
