Considering the overall appearance of the car, we can say that the models have a large number of common features. They were developed in the new style of the AvtoVAZ plant. The front of the cars is almost identical and has the following features:

However, there is a slight difference: if you look at the Lada X-Ray from the side, the front part of the model becomes more “flattened”.
When looking at the cars, the signature lines in the shape of the letter X immediately catch your eye. They produce a stunning effect, but visually they make the model shorter. This is especially noticeable on the Lada X-Ray.
It is worth noting that X-Ray has a negative quality - small wheels. Too large arches for basic 15-inch wheels do not suit buyers. And therefore, after purchasing, many immediately change the wheels to 17-inch ones. Lada Vesta looks much better in this regard.

I really like the native multimedia, excellent sound with automatic correction for speed and external noise, convenient controls on the steering wheel, pairing with a phone, navigation is accurate and detailed with warnings about signs and cameras... But something went wrong with the update... The model is not recognized.
Lada XRAY is an excellent car; it’s easy to park and move around the city, even in traffic jams. But outside the city and across the field it scatters well. The interior of the cabin is made of high-quality plastic, a nice panel. We bought a new one at the dealership, it was our first car, and we got used to it and its dimensions very easily. If compared with foreign cars, it will give them good competition.
The car is very good. The engine is high-torque and on the highway is almost inferior to anyone. It drives around the city very well, but on country roads it has no equal in cross-country ability. The stability control system helps you get out of any mud. Drives confidently in any situation. A Nissan motor with a chain instead of a timing belt is very reliable. The seats are comfortable. Clearance helps you go where others hesitate. Consumption on the highway is 6 liters per 100 km. There is no need to add oil to the engine between maintenance.

AvtoVAZ presented many configurations that differ in technical characteristics. The basis is the following features:

- Classic front-wheel drive, based on MacPherson, which has a positive effect on the cost of repairs.

Has the ride been affected? Not at all. Lada calmly digests asphalt sores and dead roads that have never seen asphalt in their lives. The driver’s nerves are calmed by powerful steel engine protection and 190 mm ground clearance.
In dynamics, XRAY greatly surpassed its donor. If the Sandero has the most powerful engine producing 102 hp, then the Lada is just starting with a 106-horsepower engine. And in our hands is the 114-horsepower XRAY, which easily and naturally leaves its competitors behind. We did not measure the longitudinal dynamics (cold, winter tires), but I am ready to believe that the XRAY goes from the stated 11 seconds to a hundred.

How many times have they told the world that cars should have an armrest, but AvtoVAZ decided to deprive drivers of this convenient attribute. Thus, the interior space seems somewhat more spacious, but the functionality does not benefit from this.
Regarding the upholstery, it is not luxurious, but is made in the best traditions of a budget car, but you should not expect lateral support and complete comfort, since the reach of the headrests is another problem of the car. By the way, the driver will be protected by an airbag, which is conveniently located in the front of the car.
In the rear seats, drivers note the special space created by the functional arrangement of the trunk. The front panel is framed by a display equipped with on-board computer functions and responsible for many other aspects that can make the ride as comfortable as possible.

The Lada was built on the Renault Sandero platform, which has already proven to be practical and reliable. The manufacturer only made some unique changes to it. So the wheelbase was 2592 millimeters.
The overall length and width of the machine were 4165 and 1764 mm. The front track is 1492 millimeters, and the rear track is 1532 millimeters, which allows you to easily conquer country roads without fear of getting stuck in the mud. The ground clearance is 195 millimeters. The total weight of the full vehicle is 1650 kilograms, empty - up to 1200. Good distribution along the axles in the ratio of 51% to 49%. The car has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.

When you sit in the Xray, a pleasant feeling of security is born - this is facilitated by the high glazing line and the powerful front panel. Alas, the victim of this style is the forward view, which is also worsened by the more massive bases of the front roof pillars. But the large exterior mirrors are beyond praise. And the Lada, like the Lifan, has a rear view camera.
As you know, XRAY is designed on the Renault platform. Actually one chassis - but there are differences.
The rear track of the Xray is larger, it has a different electro-hydraulic power steering, its own springs and shock absorbers. The stabilization system has been reconfigured. That's why XRAY is more interesting and exciting to drive.

The fact that the car is a successor to the sensational “x” series is clear at first glance. On the sides of the Xray there are voluminous X's that give the car a futuristic look. In addition to the side embossing of the body, the developers also added to the front part, with an approach to the bumper, in which the origin of the car from the “X” series is also clearly visible. Speaking of the aesthetic component – it’s beautiful, but is it practical?! People have already dubbed this car “the tinsmith’s nightmare,” and there are good reasons for this. At the slightest damage to the geometry of a part of the body that is involved in the formation of the famous X, the owner must be prepared for the fact that complete restoration will be possible only by purchasing a new part of the body.
No one, even the most professional tinsmith, can honestly guarantee a perfect repair result. Accordingly, the body is very delicate and requires careful driving in order to avoid large infusions of funds.

Another nice feature was the optics. From the rear, from a certain angle, you can say that the new product from Lada even “smells” of Cayenne. Manufacturers approached the creation of optics with full responsibility, providing the machine with high-quality light and glass.
Speaking about the shortcomings that the owners managed to identify, the following points should be highlighted:
- the first models were produced with too small a radius of the rims, as a result of which the car lost its appearance - the wheel arches were “empty”;
- There are no linings on the bottom of the body.
Speaking about these problems, it should be mentioned that the manufacturer called his brainchild a crossover, which obliges him to meet certain requirements. So, even with a ground clearance that exceeds its progenitor (see X-ray or Sandero), the absence of pads will not save the car from real off-road conditions. And it’s not even a matter of whether it’s a basic configuration or another - absolutely all versions are not adapted to difficulties, since the bottom of the body will be mercilessly framed by chips on the painted surface.
Equipment and prices of Lada Vesta and Lada X-Ray models
If we consider similar levels of the basic configuration of models, then the Lada X-Ray has a cost more than the Lada Vesta - 589 thousand rubles versus 529. If we look at the top, the prices here also differ: Lada X-Ray - 742 thousand, Lada Vesta - 672 thousand.
If the buyer wants a metallic color, then the additional payment is the same - 10 thousand rubles. However, Vesta offers it for 30 thousand rubles.
As for the configuration of cars, Vesta wins here, since it offers 7 types, X-Ray - only 4.
If we look at the list of options in more detail, we will notice that the Lada Vesta simply splits up their list, adding mainly multimedia equipment or options that provide additional comfort to each configuration. All configurations have 2 airbags, rear door locking, Era-Glonass, auto-locking doors, etc. Discs, armrests, headrests, handles, etc. are added.
If we consider the Lada X-Ray, then there is a huge plus. By overpaying 70 thousand rubles, you can get an engine with a capacity of 122 horsepower, which the Lada Vesta cannot offer. By sacrificing one rear seat and paying extra, the buyer can get a much more powerful engine and better cross-country ability. For the majority of Russian residents, these qualities are decisive.
However, the choice depends on the future owner and the purposes for using the car, as well as the preferences of buyers.

Lada Xray engine options
AvtoVAZ decided to release a new car with three engine options:
- HR4 - 1.6 l. engine, 110 hp has the lowest fuel consumption, only 6.9 liters per 100 km. paths in a mixed driving style. It can accelerate the new Lada from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds, and the top speed is 171 km/h. This engine is also installed on the Nissan Sentara, but has an additional 4 hp. power (engine installation on Lada xRay was discontinued in 2016)
- 21129 – 1.6 l. the engine has a power of 106 hp. The fuel consumption of this engine is the highest among the presented options, amounting to 7.5 liters. The maximum speed is 170 km/h, and acceleration from zero to hundred takes 11.9 seconds. A distinctive feature of this engine was the French manual gearbox. We had to decide on such a replacement due to the high noise level of the VAZ version of the mechanics.
- 21179 – 1.8 l. The engine is the TOP option for xRay, it produces 122 hp. Acceleration to one hundred in 10.9 seconds with a top speed of 183 km/h. However, the maximum indicators did not cause the maximum fuel consumption; per 100 km/h the consumption was only 7.1 liters.

Renault Sandero Stepway
- Production in Togliatti began in the fall of 2014. The car is available with a manual, automatic and robotic transmission (depending on the engine). There is no all-wheel drive version.
- Gasoline engines: 1.6 l, 8V (82 hp) - from 589,000 rubles, 1.6 l, 16V (102 hp) - from 611,990 rubles. (excluding options).
With the change of generation, Sandero has become prettier, and the pseudo-crossover version of Stepway is even more beautiful in appearance. You expect the same from the salon - but there is no festivity in it anymore. Everything is good, but simple.
The seating position, as in many Renaults, is high, and there is seat height adjustment. The soft chair will equally welcome people of different builds into its arms, but I did not have enough length of the pillow and lateral support. I didn’t like the easy-to-grip steering wheel because of the slippery rim, but I can live with that. Forward visibility is no worse than in Kalina, but small exterior mirrors are not the best solution.
Controllability? Reliable, but not emotional. However, in this class, what is more important is not excitement, but the smoothness of the ride and the omnivorous suspension of the B0 platform, which has already been written and rewritten.
Trunk of Lada X-Ray
Although volume is not one of the main indicators of the practicality of the luggage compartment. The overall space is an equally important criterion. The Lada X rays have hidden wheel arches, which makes the floor perfectly flat and more spacious than in other brands of cars. It turns out that every centimeter of the trunk will be used for its intended purpose.
The top of the luggage compartment is limited and separated by a special plastic luggage rack. Of course, if necessary, it can be dismantled right under the glass, but in this case you need to be careful not to break it.
Also, the trunk has an additional feature - a double fret x Rey floor. At the same time, there are special fasteners and straps on the top, thanks to which you can securely attach the load during transportation to avoid its breakage.
It would be mostly good if, with the rear sofa folded down, a completely flat trunk floor was formed. After all, the back of the sofa is installed at a slight angle. Although this can still be avoided by removing the rear seat cushions. The trunk of the Lada xRay is almost the same in size and volume as the Lada Kalina car.
With the rear sofa folded out, the trunk can accommodate a spare tire, a number of tools and other personal belongings of the driver.

Stepway feels confident on roads of any quality, boldly swallowing everything that comes under the wheels. The main thing is not to let off the gas, because the power is not enough, the engine will not pull out at low speeds. It is the engine that is the weakest note in this bouquet. On our car it has 82 hp (there is another with 102 hp), and therefore overtaking is difficult. It is problematic to start under tension.
The lack of traction is partially compensated by the “short” transmission. But this solution has a downside: higher speeds inevitably increase fuel consumption, and the noise level is higher. But even with a less powerful motor, Stepway is not a sophisticated drink, but it is a quality drink that does not cause headaches.
Mister X

Paired with 110 and 106 horsepower engines, AvtoVAZ decided to install a five-speed manual transmission. However, only the 110-horsepower engine will have native mechanics installed; the 106-horsepower engine will have a French equivalent with modifications from the automaker. The most powerful version of the engine will be equipped with an automatic transmission, which ZF has seriously worked on. The transmission is made in the best traditions of quality. There are options with a manual transmission and an automatic robotic gearbox to choose from.
In both versions, owners note the car’s throttle response, which seems to adapt to the driver. The steering is precise - the car responds to applied forces without delay. The extreme durability of the steering rack is noted, which is somewhat tight for a car of this weight, however, during the acquaintance, it is felt that it is adjusted to the handling features.
Characteristics of gearboxes
Both cars have identical transmissions. Both models have an AMT-type robotic gearbox and a pair of five-speed manual ones. The only difference here is that Vesta can be equipped with either a domestic or French transmission. X-Ray only has French ones.
In general, the gearboxes operate smoothly, without gear slippage or unpleasant noise. What’s typical is that you won’t find a classic automated gearbox on any model. In order to save money, a robotic gearbox was installed, which affects the ride - more jolts and jerks, a delayed reaction to reverse gear. However, you can get used to it.
X Rhea Pendant
The Lada xRay has an independent MacPherson strut suspension. This x-ray suspension significantly improves the car's handling, and the simplicity of the suspension has earned it the name of the most reliable on the domestic market.
The sensitivity of the car in corners is increased due to the fastening of the hub to the body using levers and hinges. There is nothing unusual in the suspension - it is completely copied (except for the ground clearance) from the Sandero.
Typical front MacPherson and rear semi-independent ones do not bring much comfort, but they also do not suffer from the diseases of multi-links, which are expensive for those who like to operate delicate equipment on Russian roads.
Of the minuses, it is necessary to note the rather weak lateral stability. So, at a certain speed, the car will hint with all its behavior that it is not designed for maneuverable driving.
If you like to take corners sharply, this car is not for you. Under severe overloads, the driver will feel certain vibrations, which will indicate a serious roll, so we can conclude that this car is more comfortable to drive on straight roads. L-shaped arms were installed here, similar to sports car models. They are made of high-strength steel and cast iron, which allows this element to serve for many years. The same levers are installed on Priora, Kalina and Grant.
The rear suspension uses a torsion bar mounting option. Its advantages include better kinematic characteristics, ease of maintenance, and low weight. In the future, there is a project for all-wheel drive in a car, the release of which is scheduled for 2022.
The main feature of the x Rey suspension is that it is not possible to completely disable the TCS traction control system. Its shortcomings are especially pronounced in winter, because when slipping in the snow, the system blocks the wheel, which will only aggravate the situation. This system is paired with ABS and ESC stability control system.
