First, wipe everything with a dry cloth. Then we wash it several times with WD-40 and blow it out with a compressor. After this, we wash it a couple of times in alcohol and also blow it out. Next is a very important moment - drying. This event must be taken very seriously, since it is drying that primarily determines how long the ECU will work after our repair. For this operation I used a hair dryer. I set it to maximum and heated the board on both sides for about 1.5 hours. This method was used to revive several of Kalina’s brains.
Now let's talk about those who were less fortunate and the ECU burned out beyond repair. In this case, you will have to change it. But this task is not as simple as it seems at first glance. The only exception is when you buy exactly the same unit new, never installed on a car with an immobilizer. But there is no need to rush, everything is in order...

Regardless of the model of the ECM, the device will store error codes in its memory, which will allow the car owner to determine the malfunction as accurately as possible. It should also be noted that the ECU has several types of memory:
- The first type is PROM. This memory contains all the necessary control circuits, and this memory also records commands in a certain sequence. The EPROM contains data on the calibration of various processes, which depend on the power of the power unit and its type, the weight of the vehicle as a whole and other factors. It should be noted that this type of memory does not depend in any way on voltage sources, so even if the device is not powered from the network, all the information in the memory will still be saved.
- The second type is RAM. This type of memory must always be powered from the on-board power supply, otherwise all information about diagnostic codes will be deleted. This block stores all the data that the ECM needs for calculations.

A characteristic difference between the tuning firmware from Paulus for the Lada-Kalina is an even more significant (compared to the factory firmware) increase in the car’s dynamics at the “lower” range, while gasoline consumption (especially on the highway) is reduced due to more optimal engine operating modes in high gears.
Personally, my subjective feelings after uploading the tuning firmware from Paulus to my Lada-Kalina 1.4 liter (16 valves):
- The car picks up more confidently at the bottom, instantly responding to pressing the gas pedal;
- You can easily accelerate “through gear”, for example, 1-3-5 gears;
- In the city you can drive in 3rd or 4th gear (depending on the traffic flow) almost like an “automatic” (i.e., without shifting), since the third gear confidently pulls starting from 25-30 km/h, and the fourth from 40 -45 km/h + these gears on the Lada Kalina are long, so the range of their operation after tuning the brain firmware has increased significantly;
- The same can be said about fifth gear when driving on the highway (for example, I calmly drove in fifth gear uphill with the air conditioning on, maintaining a speed of 80 km/h, while the computer showed instantaneous gasoline consumption of around 9 liters);
- Turning on the air conditioner has almost no effect on the drop in engine power. No, of course, there is definitely a drop (you shouldn’t expect a miracle from 1.4 liters), but it is much less noticeable than with the second factory firmware (at least now you can confidently drive with the air conditioning on in city mode without fear stall at an intersection);
- It is difficult to say that the engine operation has become quieter or smoother, since these are purely subjective sensations. Well, maybe the engine began to run a little “calmer” at idle, but when driving in low gear its sound became more aggressive, IMHO.
As a result, having spent 10 minutes of time and a symbolic amount of $40, I received, one might say, a different car - more dynamic, economical, and working confidently with the air conditioning on.
To change or not to change the firmware is a purely personal matter. It should be noted right away that if the car is under warranty, then when updating the tuning firmware it is automatically removed from the warranty, since in this case the manufacturer does not guarantee proper operation of the engine.
Well, and, of course, brain filling should only be done by knowledgeable, qualified specialists. It would be even better if they are official representatives of manufacturers of tuning firmware.

The VAZ-2114 is equipped with a magnetic-type DPKV. The sensor is suitable for many front-wheel drive VAZ models with an injection 8-valve or 16-valve engine: VAZ-2108-09, VAZ-2110-12, Kalina, Priora. A widely used type of sensor is labeled VAZ-2112.
The DPKV is mounted on the engine oil pump bracket, and the toothed disk is located on the crankshaft pulley. It turns out that the sensor is located in the front right corner of the car under the hood. The DPKV is not difficult to access and can be replaced quite easily even by a novice. Changing the part is very simple: disconnect the plug with wires, unscrew the fastening screw - that’s it, the sensor is removed. It is installed in reverse order. It is necessary to ensure that no dirt gets under the DPKV mounting point. After installing the part, check the gap between the sensor and the toothed disk - it should be approximately 1 mm, a deviation of ± 0.5 mm is acceptable.
