How to install cruise control on a Lada Kalina with your own hands - step-by-step instructions: a clear technical guide for the driver

How to install standard cruise control on Lada Granta, Kalina

AVTOVAZ has equipped the luxury versions of Kalina and Granta with cruise control and a speed limiter. Unfortunately, on simpler trim levels (for example, “norm”) there is no such useful option, but you can install it yourself.

Standard cruise control can be installed on Lada Granta or Kalina 2 models with VAZ-11186 or VAZ-21127 engines, which are paired with a manual transmission or AMT. For automatic transmission, only the option with universal cruise control is suitable. It is also necessary to have a CBKE.

To install standard cruise control you will need to buy:

  1. instrument cluster with two displays (for Granta with manual transmission: 2190-3801010-50, for Kalina with manual transmission: 2192-3801010-50, for Granta with AMT: 2190-3801010-90, for Kalina: 2192-3801010-90);
  2. steering column switch (article 1119-3709340-20)
  3. Steering column switch connector (part number AMP 174922-1)
  4. terminals to the dashboard connector (part number AMP 963715-1)

After installing a new instrument panel (see how to replace it) and a steering column switch (10 connector - Reset; 23 - BK+; 24 - BK-), you will need to retrain the ignition keys. Now we check the operation of the cruise control (see the car’s operating manual). If the cruise control does not work, the ECM may not be using the correct firmware. According to owner reviews, suitable firmware:

  • for Lada Kalina: I427GD04, I474DD05, I427GKA1, I427GG07, I427GF06, I427GF06, I445GBT2.
  • for Lada Granta: I484GKB2 11186-1411020-23, I474GF04 21127-1411020-62, I427GF06, I427GE05.

If everything worked out, then after setting the desired speed and activating the cruise control, the car will independently maintain it. When you press the brake, cruise control is deactivated. Speed can be increased or decreased using the up or down buttons on the steering column switch. The limiter operates during smooth movement. During sharp acceleration it does not limit, but simply signals that the speed threshold has been exceeded.

Using cruise control not only allows the driver to relax, but also saves gasoline (by 0.5-1.5 l/100 km). Let us remind you that on the website you can find other useful modifications to the Lada Kalina 2 or Granta cars.

Lada Kalina Cross. Cruise control. Principle of operation

1. Enable/disable the function.

The “KK” function is activated by pressing the “CC” key. A yellow indicator light on the gearbox will turn on, indicating that the function is enabled. Pressing the “CC” button again will turn off the “KK” function, the indicator on the gearbox will turn off, and the indication of the set vehicle speed will turn off on the LCD.

2. Activation of the function with setting the speed.

When the “KK” function is turned on, by pressing the accelerator pedal you need to reach the desired vehicle speed. After reaching the desired vehicle speed, by pressing the “Set+” (or “Set-”) key, you can fix the vehicle speed if the following conditions are met:

- the speed of the car must be greater (or

equal to) 40 km/h and less than (or equal to) 150 km/h;

— engine speed not lower than 1200 rpm and not higher than 5500 rpm;

— the gearbox gear must be at least third (for manual transmission).

The “KK” function is activated, and a green indicator on the gearbox will turn on, indicating that the function has been activated, and the LCD will indicate the set vehicle speed. After the accelerator pedal is released, the car will maintain the selected speed.

Recommendations for both cases

First of all, we note that when connecting the relay to the power wiring, you cannot make the control pulse too long. Setting the value for more than a second can burn out the actuators. Here we were talking about programming, and now let's talk about the electrical part. As you know, before installation you need to open the hood and disconnect the negative terminal.

This advice should not be ignored in any case.

As for installation, it will be better if the power wire taps are carried out by an auto electrician. With signal wiring, everything is simpler, but the rules will be the same in each case:

  • Do not let the cord touch the insulation to metal parts. If contact occurs, additional protection is used. For example, a heat-resistant tube placed over electrical tape is suitable;
  • It is better to connect any power cables using twisting. Each twisting point is carefully isolated.
  • The cross-section of wires carrying significant current must be sufficient so that the conductor does not heat up. This is how you can protect yourself from unforeseen consequences.

The last tip concerns power wiring. And the ability to twist is a whole art.

You cannot learn this art in one day.

When connecting any equipment, you should strive to make as few changes as possible to the standard wiring.

There must be an opportunity to do the following: return everything as it was. Sometimes it happens that one or more signaling parameters do not take a value that is suitable for the car. And then, the alarm system is changed or they refuse to use it altogether. This needs to be taken into account.

Jetter and booster pedal

As soon as you install the jetter/booster pedal, you will find that the car reacts slightly differently to the gas pedal - there will be no lag. Immediate response creates a feeling of improved dynamics. In reality, there is no improvement, and this feeling is false. The device only makes adjustments to the performance characteristics of the accelerator. The feeling of a quick start is due to the fact that a larger volume of fuel is supplied to the car engine. Please note: both the jetter and the booster pedal do not have a negative effect on the engine, however, there is no benefit for the power unit from their use!

Sequence of actions when installing the system

There is no big difference whether the cruise control is installed manually on a manual or automatic one. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the instructions for installing the device:

  1. First, the brake sensor is replaced. Disconnect the wiring and remove the sensor with several turns. The new device is installed by holding the pedal assembly in a raised position. The sensor is included in the complete cruise control system.
  2. System buttons are installed. Remove the airbag, unscrew the rear part of the steering wheel, after which you will need to remove the plug. Install a cruise control button for convenient operation of the system.
  3. The installed electronic system is being tested. As soon as universal cruise control is installed on the car, you need to check its operation in action, adhering to safety rules.

It is quite possible to install universal cruise control for an electronic gas pedal without the involvement of a specialist, in a garage. To illustrate the process of installing cruise control with your own hands, photos will be very useful.

Work responsibly. If you lack both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of electronics, it is better to abandon the idea of installing cruise control on a mechanical throttle. First of all, this unspoken rule applies to the Drivenge system, which is more difficult and time-consuming to equip a car with than in the case of the Jet-cruise KH.

driving

This is an extensive system with a considerable number of connectors. It’s enough of a hassle to refuse to install adaptive cruise control yourself. In this case, you will have to dig under the front pedal: drill the steering column casing, install the steering column lever and do other work. The approximate cost is about 8,600 rubles.

The device helps to turn on the system at the current as well as the last set speed. By using the gas pedal or buttons in increments of 1 km/h, you can change the settings. Automatic shutdown occurs after the brake/clutch pedal is pressed. The operating speed range is within 20-160 km/h. Separately, we note 3 modes of operation of the booster pedal: “economy”, “dynamics” and “sport”.

Jet-cruise KH

As already mentioned, this domestic system is much easier to install, as evidenced by the cruise control connection diagram. The self-powered remote control can be placed in any convenient place in the car. An electric drill is only required when installing the indicator LED. The approximate cost of the system is 11,200 rubles.

If the value exceeds the value determined by the car owner, the system will issue a sound alert. The installation step is 1 km/h. The operating range ranges from 40-150 km/h. Disabling the system is easy: just use the clutch or brake. You can change the settings using the gas pedal or buttons. Jetter has autonomous power supply and operates in several modes: economical, dynamic and sports.

Installing cruise control on Lada Granta, Kalina or Priora with E-gas

Cruise control is an indispensable option, especially when traveling long distances. Unfortunately, not all Lada models are equipped with such a useful function from the factory; for example, it is not available on the Lada Kalina and Granta with an automatic transmission, as well as on some trim levels of the Lada Priora. However, if you wish, you can install a universal cruise control kit yourself.

Most often, car enthusiasts are faced with two types of universal kits for cars with E-gas, the price of which is approximately the same (8000-1000 rubles):

  1. Jet Cruise (control via key fob; holds the throttle in a given position, so the speed decreases/increases due to the road terrain; there is a gas pedal jetter);
  2. Drivenge (control via an additional steering column switch; the throttle position is adjusted automatically and the speed does not change depending on the terrain; there is a gas pedal jetter).

. Applied technology.

This blog is a collection of my applied technical differences from a variety of fields. Simple, but useful. The blog does not have a single technical topic - it includes cars, electronics, and household items - everything that comes to hand and requires repair or improvement. All materials are from our own creativity; This is not a collection of other people’s usefulness from the Internet, but personal practice.

The simplest homemade cruise control

The simplest cruise control that can be easily installed even on an old carburetor car.
This homemade product is from the old, old times, when universal cruise control kits were not yet sold, and electronic throttles, where the cruise function is easily implemented in software, were not in use. Therefore, this design seriously smells of mothballs. Which, however, does not deprive it of its functionality. What if someone finds it useful?

If you need to increase the speed, for example, to overtake, then you accelerate, pressing the gas pedal as usual, and when the maneuver is completed, your foot is removed from the pedal and the car itself smoothly returns to the speed recorded using SPFS. If you need to slow down, you can start actively braking with the brake pedal or simply touch it to start gentle engine braking - depending on the circumstances. In any case, a short or long touch of the brake pedal causes a positive signal to be sent from the “frog” of the brake lights to the SPFS control unit, and even the shortest positive impulse deactivates the system - the cable fixation disappears, and the return spring of the throttle assembly returns the damper to the idle position , leading to the start of engine braking.

However, unlike real and full-fledged cruise control, the driving speed with the SPFS system turned on is the only one, selected during setup taking into account the driver’s preferences. It will not be possible to adjust it while driving. There is also no provision for automatic adaptation to the road terrain; the set speed will only be that way on a flat road, and ascents and descents will, alas, affect the movement accordingly. These are the disadvantages. The advantages, as promised, are the simplicity and low cost of the design.

To turn off the SPFS, that is, to remove the voltage from relay K2 and, accordingly, the solenoid, it is necessary to de-energize winding K3, which is held by “self-retaining”, for a short time. The normally closed contacts of relay K1 are responsible for this, the voltage to which comes from the “frog” of the brake pedal. Any press on the brake triggers relay K 1 and turns off the entire system. Restarting is carried out in the same way as the first one - after picking up the speed, briefly press the SB 1 button.

Installing Cruise Control Drivenge

We install the cruise control control lever on the steering column casing (left or right, optional), drilling a hole.

We place the block under the seat or inside the panel. The general installation diagram is as follows:

Connecting the cruise control Drivenge

We connect the cruise control with standard connectors into the gas pedal gap and the accelerator pedal connector. There are still four wires left that we connect:

  1. red (plus, from +10 to 18 V) -> to the ignition switch (pin 30 - from the battery, pin 15 - after ignition);
  2. black (ground) -> any bolt on the body;
  3. yellow (speed sensor) -> to the EUR (gray, second from the right on the block);
  4. brown (brake pedal sensor) -> to red-blue (Kalina 2) or blue-burgundy (Granta).

For a manual transmission, you should also connect the green wire to the clutch pedal sensor; for an automatic transmission, we leave it unconnected.

In addition to cruise control, it is possible to select the operating mode of the booster pedal:

  • “Economy” - the sensitivity of the gas pedal decreases, fuel consumption decreases.
  • “Dynamics” - a subjective feeling of increased vehicle dynamics appears and the effect of delayed response to the gas pedal is somewhat reduced.
  • “Sport” - gives maximum sensitivity of the gas pedal. It is similar to the “Dynamics” mode, but has a steeper characteristic.

By the way, you can get rid of the additional lever on the steering column by combining it with the standard steering column switch. Let us remind you that the Lada Kalina 2 and Granta cars are united not only by the installation of cruise control, but also by other modifications. For example, bumpers can be easily exchanged between these models. Are you ready to install cruise control on your Lada car?

What benefits does having cruise control in a car give to a driver?

Modern cars are equipped with a cruise control system (“autospeed” or “autodrive”) - this is a device designed to maintain a constant certain speed, increasing or decreasing it depending on road conditions and terrain, with or without driver participation. It makes long journeys much easier. The driver does not need to constantly press the gas pedal.

Cruise control can be installed on both a manual gearbox and an automatic gearbox.

All actions are reflected on the dashboard. The intensity of traffic on the roads is increasing, so adapted devices have appeared that can control the distance to the vehicle ahead, keeping it at an acceptable distance. In addition, they will prevent the car from rolling uncontrollably on a hill, and also have a number of additional functions.

How to turn on a cruise on a Priora

You can turn on cruise control on Priora 2 using the buttons on the right steering column switch, located in the form of a joystick:

  • The left key allows you to enable or disable Cruise control.
  • The right button controls the speed limiting system.
  • The top key – “Set+” – activates the selected function and allows you to increase the set speed value.
  • The lower key – “Set-” – activates the option and decreases the speed value.
  • The central button – “OK” – resumes/pauses the system.
  • The “Menu” button installed separately on the left turns on the Cruise control mode.

This way the system controls are at your fingertips.

To turn on the Priora's cruise control you need to:

With the ignition on, hold down the “Menu” button to enter the Cruise control mode. An indicator representing a speedometer will appear on the liquid crystal display of the instrument cluster.

  1. Press the left “CC” key; the yellow indicator lamp on the right side of the tachometer display will light up.
  2. Start moving, pick up speed, press “Set+” or “Set-”. If the car is moving no slower than 30, no faster than 150 km/h, the engine speed is 1200–4500 rpm, the selected gear is 3, 4, 5 (for a car with a manual transmission), the cruise will turn on. The current speed will be maintained automatically and its value will be displayed on the LCD. The indicator on the tachometer will turn green.

If the conditions for activating the function are not met, the instrument panel indicator will flash for 5 seconds and then turn yellow.

While driving, the selected speed is adjusted by pressing the “Set+”, “Set-” keys. When you hold them for a long time, the values increase/decrease automatically until the hand releases the button, but no more than 30 km/h. You can also accelerate by pressing the gas pedal. When the accelerator is released, the system will continue to operate in the specified mode.

The speed control and maintenance function pauses operation when:

  • Pressing the brake pedal.
  • Holding the clutch pedal for more than 5 seconds (for cars with manual transmission).
  • Pressing the “OK” button on the steering column switch.

Inability to automatically maintain speed (for example, on ascents and descents in cars with “mechanics”). Deactivation of the system will be indicated by the turning on of the yellow indicator; the specified parameters will be saved. You can activate the function with the same settings by pressing “OK”, or using “Set+”, “Set-” as when you turned it on for the first time.
