LADA Vesta 2022: look at what has changed and compare with competitors

It was originally planned that the 2022 Lada Vesta will receive three gasoline engines: 1.6 liter 16-valve power units with a power of 106 hp. (index - 21129 - at the moment all sedans are produced with this engine) and 114 hp. (HR16 Nissan engine - according to the latest information, it was abandoned) and a new engine with index 21179 with a volume of 1.8 liters. (122 hp) which appeared in the fall of 2016, after its debut on the Lada Xray. All engines belong to the Euro-5 class; Vesta’s 114-horsepower engine was supposed to come from the Renault-Nissan alliance.

106 hp motor works in tandem with both a robotic transmission (VAZ development) and classical mechanics (originally the French Renault JH3 , but since October 2016 it was abandoned in favor of the domestic VAZ-21807 due to savings). Even before the release of Vesta, there were rumors about a CVT with a 114 hp engine, but there is no information on it yet.

All trim levels come with electric power steering.

At the start of sales, initially only the 1.6 engine (106 hp) was available paired with a French manual transmission or a domestic “robot”.

Initially, it was reported that the Vesta with a Nissan 114-horsepower engine would be released after the domestic 106-horsepower engine, but according to the latest information, the fate of this engine is unclear - AvtoVAZ found out that the difference in dynamics between these 1.6 liter engines is minimal. Therefore, in Tolyatti they decided to release a sedan with a more powerful 1.8 liter. unit (122 hp) , which is now also installed on Xray. Initially, cars are only paired with a “robot”.

On Vesta, in addition to other systems, a traction control system is also installed, but it is switchable and does not fit in snow or mud, unlike the Lada Xray (the Xray has a traction control system that can be turned off in the fall of 2016).

Vesta 2: how the Lada changed from 2015 to 2022

The Lada Vesta car was first released to the general public in 2015. Vesta 2 has become in demand. Buyers loved it for its design, technical characteristics, price, lower than for a foreign car. Since the start of production, designers and constructors have carried out restyling several times, presenting customers with an updated version - Vesta 2. Externally, the Lada has become similar to an expensive, foreign transport. A more pronounced X-shaped design on the side added sophistication and sophistication to the car. In 2022 there will be an updated version of the model.

Where did the French gearbox go?

The first Wests received a Renault JH3 manual transmission. The initiator of this decision was Andersson, explaining it by the too high noise level of the Russian analogue. But in 2016, after the departure of Uncle Boo (as Andersson was nicknamed), the VAZ team replaced the French mechanics with the Russian 21807 - this is a reinforced version of the VAZ-2180 gearbox with a cable-driven shift mechanism, which is installed on Grants, Kalinas and Priors. Modification 21807 is designed for greater torque than 2180 and has better consumer properties: new equipment was installed at the plant for the production of parts for the main pair and second gear. But despite the measures taken, our box remained noisier than the French unit. But it allowed us to reduce the cost of production.

What has changed since the release of the first model from 2015 to 2018

Since the release of the first Lada vesta, the appearance of the car has changed significantly. She looked like a foreign car. Streamlined shapes, stylish chrome inserts, and X-shaped design are the result of the modifications carried out.

The ground clearance has increased, better optics have been installed, and alloy wheels have been selected. The Amt robot has been redesigned - the firmware for it on the machine has been changed. At the beginning of October, the comfort and luxury configurations were revised - one more version was added to each category. Also, since 2015, small things have been worked out: the creaks of the driver's door handle have been removed, the armrest has been modified, the gas tank flap has stopped slurping when opened.

Technical specifications also did not remain unchanged. The Lada Vesta engine of the latest model with a displacement of 1.8 has a power of 126 horsepower. It quickly accelerates from zero to hundreds – 10.6 seconds. Average fuel consumption decreased to 7.7.

The interior of the car also did not remain unchanged. The quality of finishing materials has improved. The space for rear passengers and the volume of the luggage compartment have increased. The control panel is equipped with a modern multimedia system and climate control keys.

The manufacturer took into account all the complaints of car owners, trying to eliminate them as a result of restyling.

Exterior

In the appearance of the Lada Vesta 2022, elements of the X-design that are relevant today appeared. The fashion trend was realized by a new body, slightly changed in size, but generally close to what we are used to seeing on older cars.

Lada is very significantly different from the concept car that the factory designers presented a little earlier, but the general features have been preserved and are visible even from the photo. And despite the statements of critics that the X-design had already set teeth on edge, its influence was reduced, but still retained, perhaps observing the successes of the same Mitsubishi or Volvo on the Russian market, made in the same style.

The face of the car has undergone a major modernization. A rather wide hood with a strong forward slope, on which two longitudinal air ducts are located, creating good aerodynamics, adds a futuristic touch. The windshield is quite in the style of the latest Lada models; due to its volume, it provides excellent visibility.

The headlights have changed smaller, as has the radiator grille, which carries a large chrome VAZ logo in the center. The bumper received a small air intake at the bottom, to the right and left of which there are two fog lights with LED filling.

From the side, the car has changed little. You can immediately feel that the new model belongs to the economy class, but the smooth contours of the domed roof, complemented by a streamlined front part, indicate that this is a completely modern car.

Many critics are merciless in relation to the stampings on the doors and wings of the body. They note that with such an arrangement relative to each other, they resemble dents and look very awkward. In addition, from car enthusiasts who already own Vesta, they received the unflattering nickname “mud collectors”. Despite this, the body looks quite decent, largely thanks to the stylish wheel arches that can accommodate 15 or 16-inch wheels. The discs themselves, according to reviews, are quite good both in design and quality.

The rear of the car is quite elegant, but does not completely fit into the stylistic outline of the model. Here, perhaps, only the new chrome inscription with the name of the car attracts attention.

The rear of the Lada Vesta 2018 in the “Universal Cross” version is very budget-friendly, but at the same time attractive. The interesting door has glass strongly inclined towards the interior. It is worth noting the lights, which were carried over almost unchanged from the sedan, and the streamlined bumper, which has a stylish protection with two rectangular exhaust elements at the bottom.

History of restyling

The new Lada Vesta went on sale in 2015. The improved model was different from previously sold cars. Manufacturers carried out the next restyling two years later. These two updates were carried out in order to improve the car - technically and to correct shortcomings. Thanks to this, it was possible to correct the existing shortcomings:

— tapping in the rear suspension area when driving, or not corrected;

— steering wheel grinding in rainy weather;

— the appearance of scratches when lowering the windows;

— modification of clutch wheels;

— sound insulation of the interior space has been improved.

Key features of Vesta

The main advantage of Vesta over other domestic models is not the original design of the car. This is imported content. We are talking about multimedia elements and additional systems in the cabin, as well as foreign technical units.

The main advantages of the Lada Vesta include:

  • Steering wheel equipped with electric power steering. Now driving the Lada is convenient, comfortable and safe. Electric power steering is a beneficial addition for urban transport, where maneuverability and precision of movement are needed.
  • Air conditioning system. Climate control comes standard and includes a large number of settings. Vesta is distinguished by high-quality insulation, so there are problems with choosing a microclimate regime.
  • Radiator and floor panels. Many solutions of the new car are borrowed from French engineers. In particular, the radiator and floor panels make Vesta similar to Renault cars. French engineers had a hand in developing not only the production version, but also the sports version, which was considered successful by many racing experts.

Of course, the Lada Vesta is not without purely Russian innovations. True, they all relate to body elements. Among others, it is worth highlighting:

  • New design. In previous Lada car models, such revolutionary decisions were not made. This is a new specification that meets the speed and aerodynamic capabilities of the car.
  • Stretcher. Vesta has a new subframe made of impact-resistant material.
  • Steering. Thanks to the redesign of the steering concept, the Russian car has become responsive, dynamic and easy to drive. This is a car with good feedback.
  • Suspension. The suspension architecture was developed from scratch and does not imply the presence of any solutions from previous models of the domestic manufacturer. As a result, the design turned out to be reliable, durable and resistant to unpredictable Russian roads.

Updated Lada sw cross

It was first presented to customers last summer. Together with the station wagon, the sw cross model appeared.

It visually stands out among other AvtoVAZ cars. Along the perimeter of the car there are plastic linings that are used as decoration and also for protection. The bumper has been modified: more voluminous and streamlined. Fuel tank cap opens with the push of a button, shark fin antenna, factory size 17 alloy wheels.

The interior has also been improved. The front instrument panel is illuminated with white light, the area of ​​the rear row of seats is illuminated using a lamp. The front passenger/driver seat is divided by an armrest, which is used for comfort, and also as a panel on which there is a power outlet, a USB port, and a button for turning on the heated rear row of seats. Orange-colored inserts were used for interior decor.

Manufacturers have provided the opportunity to almost double the luggage compartment using the folding rear seats of the Lada Vesta. Another feature is that the trunk lid can be opened by pressing a button.

The power unit has a volume of 1.8 and a power of 126 horses. In the sedan it is only available with a robotic transmission. The station wagon and sw are available with a manual transmission. It is possible to choose a less powerful engine – 1.6 with a capacity of 106 horses.

The model is not sold in a basic or top-end configuration. The car is assembled to the maximum configuration.

The Russian automaker had high hopes for this model. Its advantages include the following points:

  • Quite attractive exterior and interior design.
  • Relatively low price.
  • In expensive trim levels, the car is equipped with all popular options.

However, this car also has quite a few disadvantages. An example is low reliability and poor build quality. Cars of domestic origin have relatively low build quality. That is why many decide to pay attention to cars of foreign origin.

Nice try, AvtoVAZ, but no.

The last time I drove a Zhiguli was in 2007 at a driving school. We studied at the “six”, and then I promised myself that I would never drive a Lada again. But times are changing, and even AvtoVAZ has taken a step forward thanks to Uncle Bo. And now a little more than ten years have passed - and I ended up in Zhiguli. Yes, new, yes, conceptually different. But a Lada.

Due to my line of work, I sometimes drive new cars, in addition, since I passed my license, I have had quite a few cars in my personal fleet, and now the family has three foreign cars (German, Japanese and French) - in a word, there are What to compare with. And when they ask me how I like the car, I always answer this question through the prism of “would I have bought it for myself if I had the amount required for the purchase on hand”?

In the case of the Lada Vesta (in my case it is also a cross), my answer is clear. And this is a no. Yes, it's a different car, but no.

I drove a 1.6 liter sedan. Firstly, a sedan is not my body type. The trunk is only good for transporting groceries from the supermarket. But we have a construction site, sometimes we have to carry angles and plastic pipes - they are not heavy, but long. Therefore, my choice is either a station wagon or a hatchback. Secondly, a 1.6-liter engine with 106 hp. For a full-fledged sedan, it seemed to me, it’s not enough; in high gears the engine almost doesn’t “pull” (I’ve heard a lot of bad things about 1.8-liter VAZ engines, so maybe 1.6 is still nothing). Consumption in the city was 9.7 liters of 95, which is generally monstrous, in my opinion. The actual consumption after running the car is approximately 8.5, but it’s different for everyone. For me it's still too much.

I can’t say anything about the interior – to each his own. For me, everything is quite harmonious inside. It looks the same on the outside. As for the ground clearance of more than 200 mm, in my opinion, now this is all very overrated. As my friend said, people used to go to the forest in regular Zhiguli cars, and then in foreign cars, which had even less ground clearance. But we went. And now they are driving. All the same, the owner of the new Vesta will not go where it is impossible to drive a car with normal ground clearance. To me, these are all marketing ploys to reach a wider range of consumers.

But, again, the question is: would I buy a car for myself? If I had the cost of this Vesta in hand, I would prefer to add and buy something else. Not because I have a long-standing dislike for AvtoVAZ. Simply, having driven foreign cars, your consciousness and attitude change. For me, a fresh used car from Europe is better than a new Vesta. Forgive those who admire the car. I won’t say that everything is curly over the hill, but I’ve already seen enough of cars that have been 2-3 years old since their release, and whose bodies are already covered in beetles. And for those whose owners are forced to modify a NEW car after purchase in order to improve some of its qualities or correct the manufacturer’s flaws. Sorry, but this is kind of a mess. This is the initial wow of a new car, and then it passes, and you are left feeling sad. ride for many years. It is clear that all automakers are now saving even on the thickness of the paintwork, not to mention the service life of the engine, this makes it doubly sad, and everything is aimed at making a person buy it, drive it for five years and throw it away, but I don’t want that kind of happiness for myself.

The only advantage of the Lada in Belarus is the price and credit. During a test drive, the car does not excite the mind at all; you are unlikely to look back at it after clicking the central locking button as you leave the entrance. Yes, in comparison with AvtoVAZ products of previous years, this is progress, as an independent combat unit Vesta is nothing like that.
