How to open the trunk without a key?

Many car owners are aware of the problem associated with a broken lock. This is especially true for domestically produced cars, the quality of which, in many respects, is far from ideal. The worst thing is that the malfunction is detected at the most inopportune moment, when you urgently need a key, spare wheel, pump or some other thing located in the rear compartment. That's why it's important to know how to open the trunk without a key if the lock breaks. This skill will be useful to every car owner - both during daily use of the car and on long trips.

If the trunk is separate

Sedan or coupe are body types in which the luggage compartment is located separately and is not directly connected to the passenger compartment. What to do in such a situation? To open the trunk, you need to open the rear door of the car and try to lower the back of the passenger sofa (if the design of the vehicle allows such an operation). To perform dismantling in old foreign cars and representatives of the domestic automobile industry, you will have to bend the hinges welded to the metal of the body.

Now evaluate whether there is access to the trunk from the passenger compartment. In almost half of the cars, it will not be possible to penetrate the rear compartment due to the presence of a rigid body reinforcement located behind the back of the seat (most often it looks like strips of metal welded to each other). How to open the trunk in this case? The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  • Take a flashlight and inspect the space inside the compartment. Pay attention to the location of the lock (if the trunk is not loaded, the mechanism will be visible).
  • Come up with an extension for the crank, then secure it to a long stick (piece of reinforcement) using electrical tape.
  • If the car has trim, it will have to be removed. To do this, prepare an extension cord (now for a screwdriver).

There is another way to open the trunk. For example, find a piece of thin wire, make a loop out of it and thread it under the lock. The main goal is to bend the latch to the side and open the compartment lock in this way.

Another way out of the situation if you don’t have a key is to use a slotted screwdriver. The tool must be inserted inside, and then rocked in one direction or the other, while at the same time trying to turn the mechanism. It is worth knowing that for new domestically produced cars and foreign cars, this method will not work. The reason is the presence of special burglary protection, which will prevent the trunk from being opened. The result of this work is the destruction of the castle and the need to replace it. That is why, in most cases, it is better to ignore this option.

American-made cars and Volga require a special approach. How to open the trunk in this case? Here it is enough to cut out part of the seal in the lock area, make a hook from thin wire and try to open the latch. To successfully complete the job, the hook must be bent at an angle of 45 degrees. Using a homemade product, you need to press the rod that interacts with the mechanism itself. Please note that without a diagram of the lock in front of you, the opening process may take a long time.

Installation process

  1. First, disconnect the terminals from the battery.
  2. Select a location to install the key. This is done in any place convenient for the driver.
  3. We make a hole in the plastic and cut it in.
  4. An electrical relay is installed under the hood or in the passenger compartment. The relay is attached to a convenient place, for example, to the windshield washer reservoir.
  5. In front of the relay we install a fuse on the supply wires. This is necessary in order to prevent short circuits. A fuse of no more than 10 amps is required.
  6. Two wires are pulled through the holes for standard wiring. For activator, button. They can be pulled from the cigarette lighter.
  7. The wires are led to the trunk. It's better if they are whole.
  8. We stretch them so that nothing clings to them, and connect them to the activator. It should not be tight or bent. This leads to breakage, short circuit and fire.
  9. The activator is installed on the trunk lid and hooked to the lock using a rod. His move is free, in a straight line. The drive can operate in both directions. It depends on the polarity.
  10. If the alarm has a trunk opening function, then we attach the lock to the existing connector.
  11. We remove the lock. Unscrew it with a 10 key.
  12. A hole is made with a drill. This is where the traction comes in. It connects to the lock tongue.
  13. We connect the terminals to the button. We power the wires.
  14. Let's check the mechanism. If everything is done correctly, the trunk will open by pressing a button on the alarm remote control or on the car panel.

After installing the activator, the trunk will not open if:

  1. The wiring is not done correctly. The wires may have been reversed when hooking up. Contacts are disconnected or incorrectly connected.
  2. The angle of the activator relative to the door lock is not correct.
  3. Non-working, defective relay.
  4. The lock itself is jammed. No adjustments were made when installing it.
  5. Any element is faulty.
  6. The wrong cross-section of wires has been selected. Voltage is lost with different thicknesses of wires, and the relay does not have enough voltage to operate.

To prevent breakdowns it is important:

  • ensure that the lock is lubricated; a well-lubricated lock operates smoothly;
  • monitors the contacts, they should not oxidize;
  • do not allow moisture to enter the mechanisms.

Now you know how to make the trunk open with a button on a VAZ 21099. If a simple activator cannot cope with the lock, use a reinforced one. This will be written on the box. When buying an activator, do not save money. Cheap Chinese elements fail very quickly, and the mechanism again requires repair. A high-quality activator will last a long time and will not require additional investments of time and money.

It is necessary to tighten several turns of the spring with nylon ties. I pulled five turns on each. After this procedure, the trunk bounces like a young one.

The ties are not particularly noticeable; the spring is covered with a boot and looks neat. Certainly. It would be better to use black zip ties.

Since we're on the subject of the trunk, I'll show you another small life hack. If the trunk lid dangles when closed, and, in my opinion, it cannot help but dangle, you should wrap a little electrical tape around the lock bracket. The play disappears completely, the trunk will close more quietly.

If the electrical tape is of high quality, it lasts for a long time; I reapply it about once every six months.

The button is a little exotic - a VK-2 piezo button (zaotexkom.ru/production/piezo/), it was possible to embed an ordinary (waterproof) one into the plastic bulkhead, but since the button had been waiting for its place and hour for a long time, it was installed. It has one remarkable property - the pulse duration is limited to 1 s when pressed and held for a long time. The wires were brought out through the rubber seal of the license plate illumination harness. Then through the left rubber corrugation of the trunk lid into the interior and along the pillar to the left rear lights. Replacing hinges

But how to do that? How to get out of this situation? Let's consider the simplest example and the VAZ 2109 car (for most VAZs this method works).

In order to open a VAZ without a key, you only need one small rope. The rope should be dense and strong, but at the same time quite thin.

We measure out 2 meters of such rope. You need to tie a special knot in the center of this rope.

What kind of knot should you tie? We tie a knot in such a way that when we pull the string, the knot unties itself.

To make such a knot, you need to make two loops next to each other in the center of the rope. Then thread one loop into the other and pull a little. See photo instructions on how to make such a knot.

When the knot is ready, the rope must be threaded through the seal. We thread it under the door, lower the rope down, and begin to pull it from side to side.

Next, we adjust the rope from side to side so that our loop catches on the door lock. As soon as it catches, you need to pull the rope in both directions and tighten the loop.

Then we lift both ends of the rope up. All you have to do is pull up and the door will open.

This method is suitable for VAZ 2101, 2102, 2103, 2104, 2105, 2106, 2107, 2108, 2109, 2199 and others. A fairly simple and working way to open a VAZ car without a key.

To adjust the doors on the “nine” you need to have only two tools with you:

Front doors

On the “nine” the front doors are adjusted as follows:

  • The position of the latch changes;
  • Before carrying out this procedure, you need to carefully outline the contours of the latch on the stand;
  • If the front door of the “nine” closes too tightly, then you need to loosen the bolts of the clamp, move it a little outward, and then tighten the screws thoroughly;
  • If the front door closes poorly, then the latch must be pushed inward.
  • If the door drops below the level when closing, then the latch must be raised;
  • If the door rises when closing, but sags in the open position, the latch must be lowered.
  • If you need to adjust the inner handle of the lock, you should move the bracket under the fastening screws. There are oval holes on the inner panel of the door that will help in this matter;
  • If the internal handle does not cope with its duties and the door does not open well, then the bracket bolts are loosened, the handle is moved to the desired position, and the screws are tightened.

The procedure for adjusting the hood cover is as follows:

  • The height of the pin changes in relation to the front surfaces of the front wings and radiator trim. A pin and springs secure the hood in the closed position. The pin itself is screwed into the hood and locked with a lock nut. There are cups installed on it with a spring between them;
  • To adjust the hood cover, you need to loosen the hinge bolts, move the hood so that the gaps between it and the body are as they should be, and then tighten the screws thoroughly;
  • If the hood lid does not close well, then you need to loosen the fastening of the pin, move it until it matches the lock socket, and then tighten the lock nut thoroughly;
  • If the problem with closing the hood is in the lock, then with the hood open, you need to outline the contours of the lock body, and then move it to the desired position. After that, tighten the bolts and check how the lid closes.

Removing the old lock

The lock cylinder is firmly driven into the mechanism, and therefore it will not be possible to replace it without completely dismantling it.

Prepare the following tools:

  • 8mm socket wrench;
  • set of Phillips screwdrivers;
  • marker.

First, remove the tailgate trim. It is installed on 10 plastic clips. Underneath it is the protective casing of the lock itself - unscrew the screws holding it in place and remove the element.

Next, you need to outline the locking mechanism with a marker and unscrew the nuts holding it with a wrench. Later, installing the lock along the marked contours will make it easier to adjust, or even with a successful combination of circumstances will make this procedure completely unnecessary.

To prevent wires hidden under the upholstery from interfering with your work, move them to the side and temporarily glue them with a strip of electrical tape. Remove the lock from the pins and inspect it for damage; if there is any, it will have to be replaced.
