Of course, many are waiting for the release of the Lada Granta Cross based on the station wagon. The model was officially presented at the end of August 2018 at the Moscow Motor Show, but it was a little late in entering the market.

The Lada Granta Liftback is built on the platform from the Granta Sedan, which means that the body dimensions are as close as possible to those of the sedan.

The width and height are the same: 1700 x 1500 mm, but the length is shorter by as much as 150 mm, and is 4246 mm. Inside the cabin, the proportions are maintained, with the exception of the free space above the heads of passengers in the rear row of seats. It was reduced by 8.0 cm. In general, no discomfort was felt. The main advantage of the Liftback model is the increased space in the luggage compartment, despite the overall reduction in body length. With the seats folded, the volume is 440 liters, when unfolded - 760 liters.

External dimensions

The external dimensions of the sedan are quite restrained, unlike Deo Lanos or Nexia cars, where most of the length is occupied by empty space. The front and rear bumpers of the Lada Grant practically do not stick out, although they have a convex shape. Thanks to this, the machine reaches a length of just over four meters (4260 mm).

The liftback, due to its more spacious luggage compartment, has a shorter length. True, the difference is not significant at all, only 1.4 cm (total length - 4246 mm). But the Granta in the sport body has a length longer than that of the sedan, by only 2 cm (4280 mm). This slight difference is not due to changes in the structure of the body, but due to updated bumpers that have a more convex and patterned shape.

The width of all three types: sedan, liftback and sport is absolutely the same. The dimensions of the car, from the edge of the left mirror to the edge of the right, are 1.7 meters. These dimensions are not very different from other Lada models (in width). At the same time, roominess and comfort are completely different in each model. For example, in Grant the interior is quite spacious, which cannot be said about Kalina.

Trunk overview, what is where and where

The basic configuration of the Lada Granta Liftback does not include a remote drive to unlock the doors. In Lux versions, a mechanical button is installed on the key. To unlock the fifth door, just press the button once. Next, lift the lid mechanically by hand. Note that it is not easy, one little finger will not be enough, make an effort. Even when folded, the trunk is spacious and impressive. The perimeter is lined with felt, fleecy material. It serves as both cladding and noise reduction.

Unfortunately, there is no rubber mat on the floor, only fleecy material. If necessary, the owner can independently purchase rubber coating. Lifting the false shelf, in the center we will see a recess for the spare wheel. Moreover, the standard radius of the disks is 14 inches, but you can fit all 16 inches. Convenient and practical, since there is free space. In addition to the full tire, there is a mechanical jack and a wheel wrench. If desired, you can fit a tow rope, which needs to be purchased separately; it is not supplied as standard.

Installing a trunk lock

Today Granta is available in three trim levels: “Standard”, “Norma” and “Lux”. Unlike the latter two, the standard version is not equipped with an electric trunk and hood lock. There are no buttons in the cabin, but the manufacturer has prepared everything necessary for installing the electric drive and has equipped the key fob with a button to open the trunk.

By pressing this button and holding it for more than two seconds, you can hear the lock motor relay clicking. The only thing missing is the mechanism itself, which can be purchased at any auto store. The installation process is not complicated and can be done independently. The algorithm of actions is as follows:

• Remove the inner lining of the trunk by disconnecting the 7 pistons and unscrewing the bolts securing the handle.
• After this you can see the lock mechanism. To understand the principle of its operation in different positions, you should insert a key into the hole and turn it in different directions. In the closed position, the pusher should work idle; in the open position, press on the rod, which pulls back the lock tongue, opening the trunk).
• Having understood the positions of the lock, it is not difficult to guess that it is enough to connect the actuator rod to the pusher.
• Remove the washer and pusher. You will need a small thin metal plate into which the pusher and actuator rod will be installed. You need to make two holes in the plate. One is for the pusher protrusion (located in the center), the second is for the activator rod (on the edge in the lower left part). You will need to select a metal washer for the protrusion of the pusher.
• Now you can assemble the mechanism; a plate is put on the pusher using the central hole. A washer and a locking ring are used for fixation. The actuator is fixed in the place provided by the manufacturer. Using rods, the plate is connected to the activator through the hole.

The Grant Liftback's trunk dimensions are not the worst, despite the shortened body. The model successfully competes with many European car brands.

Features of the liftback

The production of Grant in a liftback body was based on the original version of this model, so their dimensions are almost identical. But, of course, there are still certain differences. Let's look at them.

2. The interior ceiling in the rear seat area has become slightly smaller, by about 8 cm.

• Lifting the trunk lid requires a lot of effort; the door is moderately heavy;
• A solid rubber mat on a raised shelf is impractical, since with frequent use of a spare wheel or a mechanical jack, the sides touch the fleecy covering, wearing it out.

What kind of oversized cargo will fit into the trunk of a Liftback?

With the rear row seats folded, the trunk can accommodate four tires with a radius of 14 - 15 inches. Plus, there is space on the sides for storing tools, a tow rope, and a foot pump for inflating wheels.

To transport oversized cargo, within the permissible load, you need to temporarily dismantle the shelf. To do this you need:

1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew two screws on each side at the base.
2. Remove the cables from the upper loops.

• To prevent the false floor covering from wearing out prematurely, buy a composite floor for the luggage compartment. As an alternative, choose Polic from Renault Logan Universal.
• To reduce the noise level from impacts of gravel and stones, install additional sound insulation. The wrapping process is simple and can be done by every car owner. No special equipment is required.
• As standard, the Lada Granta Sedan and Liftback come with two ignition keys: one black, the other black with a red layer. Always keep the latter as it unlocks both the doors and the trunk. If lost, restoration will be quite a troublesome procedure.

The Lada Granta with a trunk of such volume surpassed the European Volkswagen Golf hatchback in the usual passenger row position. This is the first liftback model among domestic cars produced by AvtoVAZ.

The engineers did a great job, the parameters are higher than a number of European brands: Volkswagen, Skoda, Opel, Seat.
