In this article we will talk about xenon on the VAZ 2114 (including in fog lights). Before you begin the process of installing xenon lamps, you should study the instructions included in the installation kit, and also, in addition, check the actual availability of all the tools and spare parts necessary for installation - mounting brackets, screws, insulating tape, ballasts, nuts and other.

At first, experts advise installing xenon lamps only on the right side of the car. If the xenon is installed correctly and the low beam headlights are carefully switched to high beam, proceed to installing xenon lamps on the left side of the vehicle.

What about LEDs?

The LED light source is also not installed on domestic cars. We have already explained the issue of installing LEDs, when it is possible and when it is not.

In general, this is a more modern type of head light, and has come into fashion quite recently. A number of manufacturers for their models have even begun to provide documentation for the possibility of installing LED lamps in such headlights when obtaining vehicle type approval. These include, for example, Hyundai and Kia. This, of course, does not mean that you can simply replace the halogen lamps in such cars with LED ones. But changes are made in a somewhat simplified mode. In addition, even the most budget models - Kia Rio and Hyundai Solaris - are equipped with xenon.

But we are talking about VAZ cars. And for them, LED lamps in headlights, unfortunately, are prohibited, since the design of their light source module does not provide for the installation of anything other than incandescent (halogen) lamps.

Installation of xenon on a VAZ 2114: step-by-step steps

The installation process begins by disconnecting the “+” terminal from the car battery.
Then, having studied the connection instructions, you can safely proceed to installing the system control unit: 1. Determine the location that is optimally suitable for installation on the VAZ 2114. This location must meet two mandatory criteria:

there should be no stretched power wires;
The location for mounting xenon must provide the highest protection from dust, dirt, high heat and other external influences.

2. The mounting bracket is attached at a level level using self-tapping screws. Then the ballast is fixed on this bracket; the fixation should be quite rigid.

3. Using zip ties, carefully secure the wiring harness.

Upon completion of all actions, proceed to installing xenon lamps:

1. Remove the protective cover from one of the VAZ 2114 headlights. 2. Next, remove the lamp from its seat, having previously disconnected the wires providing power. 3. If necessary, a hole is made in the cover through which the wires from the lamp are pulled in the direction of the ignition unit. 4. The new xenon lamp is placed in the seat and secured. 5. Upon completion, the protective cover removed from the headlight (including the fog lamp) is returned back.

According to the diagram described in the installation instructions, the required switching is restored and the “+” terminal is connected back to the battery. Upon completion of all the work done, the result of the functioning of the entire system and its relationship with the given characteristics are assessed. For “visual comfort” the headlights of the VAZ 2114 are adjusted.

Properties that are not the result of improper installation or defects:

on both sides (right and left) there is a small discrepancy in the color of the cross-section of xenon lamps - the permissible difference in color temperature is no more than 500 K;
There is a slight noise coming from the xenon control system. This noise arises due to the generation of voltage and decreases when switching to operating mode;
It should be borne in mind that xenon lamps do not light up immediately, since when such lamps are quickly switched in the ballast of this system, the protection is triggered and therefore the xenon lamps light up again only after a couple of seconds;
When starting the engine with the xenon headlights turned off, the supply voltage drops. For this reason, the light scatters or even the lamps turn off. This is by no means a malfunction, you just need to turn the headlights back on.

Features of the system

If you notice that the head light suddenly stops working, which can happen due to the protection in the unit being triggered, then you should stop driving and turn on the headlights again, waiting until 10 minutes have passed. If this situation begins to recur with a certain frequency, then you need to contact a specialist. The intensity of headlights must be adjusted using a special device, which will eliminate the possibility of dazzling pedestrians and oncoming drivers.

During operation of the new system, it is recommended to always keep the headlight glasses clean, since dirty ones can additionally scatter the flow of light and blind drivers. Experts recommend installing a high-pressure cleaner, as this will increase the comfort of using headlights.

It should be remembered that installing xenon is by no means the safest activity. As many precautions as possible should be taken during this process. If any damage to the kit is noticed during installation, you must stop all work as soon as possible and consult your dealer.

Another reason to stop installation work is numerous damage to ballasts and lamps.

Experienced craftsmen advise not to try to do the work with hands that have recently been stained with oil or any other liquid. In this case, you may get an electric shock.

During use, try to keep the headlights as clean as possible. Dirty headlights scatter the light and can blind oncoming drivers.

In addition, it is recommended to additionally install a high-pressure cleaner. It will make using headlights even easier.

How to choose xenon

You should choose xenon with extreme caution. Quite often there are models on the market that cannot be called quite high quality, although they are quite expensive. What should you pay attention to first? All car owners are advised to check the brightness level. Too high brightness can lead to the most serious problems for the motorist, because bright headlights can temporarily blind traffic from the oncoming lane.

What is the fine?

The use of xenon in fog lights is regulated on the basis of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation and the “List of faults and conditions under which the operation of vehicles is prohibited.”

Methods for checking vehicles are given in GOST R 51709-2001.

There is no penalty for xenon as such! Problems with installing xenon lamps in external lighting devices are described in Part 3 of Art. 12.5 Code of Administrative Offences. And the punishment for such an action is strict - deprivation of rights for a period of 6 months to 1 year.

If it turns out that xenon cannot be installed in the PTF for the reasons described above, then the car is confiscated, the license plates are removed and it is sent to the parking lot. This cannot be done in the dark or in bad weather.

The decision to initiate a case for an administrative offense is sent to the magistrate's court, and only it can make a decision on deprivation of rights.

Xenon lovers should not be upset. Part 3 Art. 12.5 is too loosely interpreted, so a good lawyer can easily prove your innocence. Why?

The rules state that in order to be able to operate a vehicle, its integrity must be maintained. That is, you cannot change lighting fixtures or replace them with others.
When installing xenon, the integrity of the headlights is not formally compromised, nor is the location of the lamps or operating mode.

Actions to install xenon, if properly presented in court, are often reclassified as part 1 of Art. 12.5, and deprivation of rights is replaced by a fine of 500 rubles. As a result, depriving someone of a license for xenon is a very difficult matter. More often, under unfavorable circumstances, you can only count on a small fine for xenon.
