Why did I even decide to modify the trunk lid of a Chevrolet Niva? Yes, because recently I began to hear popping noises in the fuel tank, the formation of gasoline vapors, which can be very dangerous, and uneven operation of the car engine with significant dips. It is possible that the gas tank cap is to blame for everything, which does not allow the pressure formed inside to disappear.
This means you need to reduce the valve response threshold. Well, the task has been set, now it must be achieved, at any cost.
We unscrew the cover from its place and disassemble it. We remove the ring with the leash, to do this we pick at ourselves with an awl. Then we find a mesh filter in the housing; this also needs to be removed. The same valve is already located under it.
Keep in mind that the spring in the valve is under tension and if you are not careful, either the spring will fly out and hit you in the face, thereby causing injury, or it will not hit your face, but will fly so far that you will never see it again .
We pulled out the spring and inspected it. Yes, its length is standard, but I need the valve to operate earlier, so we take the spring and cut it exactly in half. After that, put the spring back in place and assemble the gas tank cap in the reverse order. I installed it in place and tried to ride it.
At the moment I have been driving like this for a week, there are no more pops in the tank, and no vapors are being formed either. There are still some incomprehensible moments in the operation of the engine, but still there are no big failures like before. But it would seem how you can think about such a harmless thing as a fuel tank cap.
I didn’t even know before that there was a valve there, I thought it was a banal plug, nothing more. But while searching for the cause of the malfunction, I read that a special valve is built into the lid body. And I read about the fact that you need to pull out the spring from there and shorten it, so if it weren’t for the global web, I would have already diagnosed the motor, our specialists would certainly have found something wrong and I would have paid for that repair, which still wouldn't solve the problem.
The fuel tank is the container at the back of the car that stores gasoline.
The Chevrolet Niva is distinguished by increased fuel consumption, typical of an SUV. This is compensated by the larger gas tank capacity.
As a result, the maximum mileage without refueling differs little from that of domestic road cars.

At first I thought about protecting gasoline from theft. Fuel tank cap JP Group 111 565 0600 was purchased! Enough for 8 months. Price 174 ₽. It turned out that the key was very hefty, that there was no ice + gasoline was leaking through it... in the end, thank God, it was safely lost at the gas station) My logbook about it I decided again not to fork out too much and buy a cheap cover from Oka again for testing)) A Lada cover was bought 00000096000000 Oka DaAZ gas tank cap with key 96 oat Price: 146 ₽. Enough for 3 months. Here the key was normal, but bad luck, it got stuck in the lid and it’s not ice, because... I haven’t taken it out since then, I’ve been keeping it warm for a week)
Having suffered with consumer goods that were cheap, but not ideal, I bought SWAG 30 90 2211 for a huge amount of 735 ₽. Wag covers can be opened with any VW ignition key...
This lid is crap (any one with a lock). I suffered with it myself. Firstly, if desired, it can be torn off and broken, and secondly, at each gas station you have to struggle with it yourself every time. There was a situation when the lock got stuck in it and like an asshole, I tried to open it for about 15 minutes. Well, screw it, I threw it out and put the mesh in the neck.
I once specifically wanted to drain gasoline from my Shnivy (2011) and add gas for my motor boat. No matter how much I tried, no matter how much I pushed the hose, it didn’t work.
You don't need to push it, you need to twist it)).
Throw away that lid. Put the usual one. And put a grill from a meat grinder in the inlet hose near the gas tank www.drive2.ru/l/5728319/
Is it really possible to drain gasoline from the Shniva? I thought there was some kind of grill already installed from the factory. Is someone else draining the gasoline?
I don’t know how they do it, but they drained mine three times... until I installed a grate.
Clear, thank God, we haven’t heard of people knocking them down. A friend in the village wanted to drain his heel, his dad said that if they had succeeded, he would have given them another 20 liters) the village is small, but who wanted it is unclear
Well, it would seem that we have a long crooked pipe to the gas tank, and somehow they manage to stick a pipe there... But many people say that this is impossible)
Covers with a key are a hassle only for the driver, but not for those who drain. Place the mesh from the meat grinder in the neck and the limit switch from the signal on the gas tank flap and you will be happy
The question is certainly interesting, but for a very long time now all my tanks have had lids without locks.
arguments for nafegnado with a lock: 1. freezes in winter
2. at the gas station, get out and open it, the gas station driver is no longer needed if I go out myself
3. this lid is rolled up with a device in a second, if you need to drain the gasoline... people do this act consciously... in a couple of districts of the lower region, people themselves take out the larvae from the doors and throw them out, so that only with the signal signal they can open it... but they still break the glass and get what you need...
4. If you're lucky, the neck won't break off when folding. does not apply to all tanks, but in general it will be a mess...
5. Well, if you need it to be noisy, then put the limit switch from the signaling on the hinged lid. it beeps and you can hear it if the car is not in the next yard
6. Well, if necessary, then drag the cable, fill the hole in the body, so that, like on a foreign tourist, the lid can be folded out of the passenger compartment...
7. if they can’t drain it through the neck, then the tank can easily break through from below, if you really need gasoline... and your car is parked in a quiet corner
8. You still need to carry this key with you...
9. answer yourself the question: how many times have you or your neighbors had their gasoline drained? most often this epidemic comes in waves... the villains are caught, given gasoline to drink, and silence for several years... until new ones grow up. who have a bib, but lack money and brains...
10. put a lock on yourself? Well, for example, I try not to steal from myself...
and if it overflows, don’t pour it into the tank all the way... the first time the gun shot and it’s good... well, at least until the second shooting... with low-quality gasoline, foam appears when pouring... the foam settled and spit again... and it’s good
If you find one on sale, it’s a little nicer - the terminals are standard cars and less fragile.
Common - normally open > In the sense - until the magnet acts on it - closed or open. +++ Open.
Re: Does a Chevy Niva have a tank cap with a lock? The valve on the standard cover only works for suction. The absorber works for suction. Until some year, the standard covers were blank. The valve was apparently made only to make life easier for the absorber.
I installed a lid with a lock. From 8. I didn’t notice any bugs, except for freezing this winter after washing. After this incident I returned it to normal.
Don't buy gas caps like these.

Electric lock for the tank lid of the VAZ 2121 “Niva”
Everything is secured with double-sided tape, the reed switch is covered with heat shrink, a permanently open one is used, when the hatch is opened, the magnet approaches a distance sufficient to trigger, and opens only when the hatch is almost closed. The lock works like a Swiss watch. A relay is used for this.
REED SWITCH. ALARM ON GAS TANK FLOOR - Duration: Interesting to watch. Using a transfer case on a Chevrolet Niva.
We attach the ear to the hatch with rivets. Yes, because recently I began to hear popping noises in the fuel tank, the formation of gasoline vapors, which can be very dangerous, and uneven operation of the car engine with significant dips.
Under the action of a spring, the hatch automatically opens. The old Niva has been sold, the old cap on the neck of the new car does not fit on the new car, it needs an external thread, on the Niva it needs an internal thread.
As a result, I connected the wires in such a way that at one of the extreme positions of the electric rod. This design worked for me for a year, after which the car was sold and is still working for the next owner to this day, another 1.5 years have passed.
Today I drilled a hole in the niche of the tank neck, inserted a hollow bolt, a spoke into it and wound it inside onto the solenoid. I connected the solenoid to the alarm, it turned out like when you open a car - the spoke goes up, like when you close a car - the spoke goes down. All that remains is to attach the eyelet to the hatch with rivets and that’s it, you can throw out the Turkish leaking plug, the Turkish ones with the lock from the pioneers, but ours don’t, so we had to be clever. The detailed diagram is here: I just didn’t bother making a relay and all that.
Installing an electric lock on the trunk of a Lada Granta
You can easily make the trunk of this car open when you press a button on the alarm remote control.
To do this, you need to follow the following algorithm:
- First, find the trunk opening control wire in the driver's door threshold wiring. You can determine it using a tester. When you press the trunk button in the cabin, a voltage of 12 volts should appear briefly. This is often a long green wire with a black stripe.
- Cut the cable and connect a 5-pin relay into the gap, which can be purchased separately with a connector or use what comes with the alarm.
- To create 12 volt power, the white and red wires must be connected together. You can take the permanent “plus” from the fuse block. In addition, you can unscrew the low beam control panel and connect to the pink wire.
- Connect the yellow wire to the green one. Twist its other end with the blue cable.
- Connect the black and yellow wire of the additional alarm channel to the black wire of the relay. Connect the second contact of the interior button here.
- Connect the first contact to the negative side of the on-board network. To do this, you can place the terminal under the nut of the standard mounting bolt. As a result, when you press the interior button, the trunk will always open.
In addition, you can open the cover by pressing the key combination of the alarm key fob. Moreover, such an operation does not require disabling the car alarm.
An additional button installed inside the cabin in the place provided by the manufacturer makes it possible to open the trunk in reserve. Such an improvement can extend the life of a standard street button, the replacement of which will be quite expensive due to its labor intensity.
How to open the gas tank cap without a key.
On the left - the lid is closed and it is impossible to open it from the outside! On the right - after pressing the button - the lid opened slightly, you can open the hatch and refuel! When the solenoid is triggered, the hatch is opened by a limit switch as in the last addition in the article. S1 - the gas tank opening button is normally open.
S2 - the limit switch from the door is normally closed. You should not apply voltage to the solenoid for a long time - it will burn out. Therefore, it is necessary to somehow turn off the current when it is no longer needed.
A relay is used for this. When the hatch is closed, no current flows through it; the contacts are in the position corresponding to the circuit. If you press button S1, the solenoid will operate, and the gas tank flap will release and open slightly due to limit switch S2. The limit switch will close the circuit, the relay will operate and turn off the power to the solenoid, even if you continue to press the S1 button.
This eliminates the possibility of burning the solenoid. The light is used to indicate the open state of the hatch. Whether it is worth installing it is something everyone will decide for themselves. When the hatch is closed, the limit switch opens, the relay is de-energized and the circuit returns to its original position.
The solenoid is returned to the closed position by a spring. When closed, the hatch locks automatically. So, as a locking device, I decided to use a limit switch, which is used when installing an alarm system. But it must be metal, with a plastic rod it is completely unreliable.
Here's the end switch: But it also has drawbacks: This became clear when I had everything already done and working and all that remained was to tighten all the elements, I had to redo it. We disassemble the limit switch; the only parts we need are the spring and the steel bushing. For the modification, we need an M8 bolt and two nuts for it, preferably with washers: Take an M8 bolt of the same length as the end switch body, and make a new body out of it.
For this, of course, you need a turner. I have a small repair shop at work, so I'm lucky. First we drill a through hole with a diameter of 3 mm, then we drill it out with a diameter of 4.5 mm, leaving 2 mm at the bolt head.
We pulled out the spring and inspected it.
