Replacing silent blocks on Kalina step by step

First remove the wishbone:

  1. Remove the wheel and spray all the control arm joints with WD-40.
  2. When the lubricant penetrates into hard-to-reach places, start unscrewing the bolts.
  3. Remove the ball joint bolt, but first remove the cotter pin from the bolt.
  4. Next, unscrew the mounting bolt of the longitudinal tension joint and remove it.

  5. Then unscrew the bolt and nut securing the stabilizer link.

  6. The next step is the control arm bolt. After dismantling the bolt and nut, you can remove the lever.

Next we move on to the rubber-metal hinge of the longitudinal extension:

  1. Having previously clamped the lever in a vice, knock out the silent blocks one by one using a thin flat-head screwdriver or chisel.

  2. If during removal the metal base of the lever remains in the lever, you will also have to knock it out and clean the seat from dirt.

  3. Installation of new silent blocks is carried out by pressing them into the lever using a vice, with full fixation, striking the body with a hammer every 5-8 mm.

Cushion and stabilizer link:

  1. Removing the stabilizer link is very simple. It is enough to unscrew the fastening bolt from the transverse arm; we simply release the second end from the stabilizer by simple rocking.

  2. To release the pillow, take the key “13” and unscrew two mounting bolts of the bracket, then release it.

  3. When it is released, it can be removed by cutting it with a knife in the thinnest place, or removed from the stabilizer by lubricating it with WD-40 or a soap solution.

Cross Arm Bracket:

  1. The largest silent block of the lever is located at the very base.
  2. The easiest way to remove it is to set it on fire. When the rubber burns out on it, take it out and clean the seat. Of course, it can be pressed out through a vice, but this will take time.

  3. Lubricate the new silent blocks with WD-40 or soap solution and install them in place using a 30mm socket and a vice, pressing it in.

WHAT ARE WE DOING

A year and a half ago, one of the first commercial Kalina of the second generation appeared in the editorial office. The VAZ-21927 index means, among other things, a new 1.6-liter 106-horsepower engine with an adjustable intake tract length. The car weighs a little more than a ton, many of the tuning company’s solutions were worked out on co-platform Ladas - and we decided to prepare the car for participation in amateur racing.

Front suspension spring Kalina, how to change the spring

Work order:

  1. First, open the hood and loosen the upper fastening nut of the support to the rack: place a wrench set at “22” on the nut and loosen the fastening, holding the rod from turning with a wrench set at “9”. Just a few turns is enough.

  2. Next, lift the front of the car with a jack and remove the wheel.

  3. Remove the brake hose from its hook on the strut and move it to the side.

  4. Next, apply penetrating lubricant to all connections.

  5. Then unscrew the nut that secures the steering knuckle to the steering arm and knock the knuckle out using a hammer and pry bar, or press it out using a puller.

  6. Now proceed to the lower mount of the rack, where you need to unscrew two nuts using keys “17” and “19”.

  7. All that remains is to unscrew the three fastening nuts of the front supports to the glass (body).
  8. Do not unscrew the last nut all the way so that the stand holds. When you disconnect the strut from the steering knuckle, you can unscrew the last nut and lower it down, holding it with your other hand.

  9. Now you will need spring ties. They can be purchased at any auto store.

  10. Place them on both sides on the coils of the spring and, using these devices, compress them.

  11. When the spring is sufficiently tightened and does not rest against the strut support, unscrew the top nut.

  12. Remove the support together with the rubber band, cup and bearing.

  13. Then you can remove the spring.

  14. Assembly is performed in reverse order.
  15. Pull the new springs to the required torque and place them on the rack. The bottommost turn should fit exactly into the recess.
