Hello all subscribers! We complete the epic with the installation of hefty wide wheels. Some people already wrote to me in a previous post that they say it’s too much with the crash and all that. It depends on what you mean by overkill! I repeat - there are different directions in tuning, and in particular those in which it is necessary to modify the car to fit the wheels (if it does not correspond to them), and not vice versa. If you just want to install wheels and just drive, go to the store and car market for advice from the seller, or even better, go to the car dealership for standard wheels, they meet factory specifications, so install them for yourself. I have long wanted disks with “shelves”, because it is not at all easy to fix such disks, and often it is necessary to get rid of compromises, of which there are a great many. This is a deliberate step that I took for the sake of beauty and style. Let me remind you that stans, wide rims, welding, extensions ala liberty walk, RWB, TRA Kyoto, and so on are now in fashion. For what? Such discs stand out from the stream - the shelf shines and sparkles, the car slowly rolls, these are traditions that came from motorsport, the history of which I naturally will not retell here. You can study the history of the creation of the TRA Kyoto company and read what such abuse of cars led to. for those who don’t want to read, I can say (spoiler) - to world leadership in the production of expansion kits and body kits for Japanese cars. the famous Rocket Bunny is his brainchild.
And so we figured out the motivation, we moved on - the wheels are wide, the task was not to wonder why they were so wide and whether I had gone too far with the offset, the task was to set and make a compromise so that the wheels would not eat (I still have loans, this is how I will pay — I’ll drop it by 3+ degrees). in general, even without camber, if you lower the car onto the rims, then the arch lies straight between the rim and the tires, and this is pure stens, but for this my balls are not so strong yet, I need pneuma and all that.
Two posts ago I asked you if there was a demolisher who could do this for me. Information about camber angles and how to make it was shared with me by the well-known Seryoga seliter and his friend Varuzhan, who installed a Vossen with the same parameters but a 5 mm smaller offset. Thank you guys very much! Subscriber Zedrayn responded to me in a personal message, who advised me of a wrecker in the city of Kolpino, I contacted him first on VK, here is a link to him vk.com/id14699989 and his group vk.com/kolpinoupgrade Don’t be surprised that there are so few subscribers, all of him clients are mostly Over 35+ and mostly contact him not via the Internet but by phone.
Imagine my surprise that the person turned out to be extremely literate and “hard-boiled”, he knows not only what needs to be set to “Zeros”, but completely delves into the physics of the car’s movement, and the forces acting on the wheels in motion, knows the whole theory inside and out , tunes expensive foreign cars that cannot be done at the dealer (because the dealer has crooked hands), racing and sports cars. He didn’t just send me to the machine and do it, he completely explained to me what was being done and why, and what it affects, and didn’t let me go until everything was done “as it should.” This is great.

First maintenance of Lada Vesta
What kind of work does the first maintenance for the Lada Vesta sedan consist of? This includes replacing the oil, air and cabin filters, changing the engine oil, checking the condition of the brake pads, as well as diagnosing the engine control unit using a special scanner. At the official service station of the Lada brand in Kazakhstan, German synthetic oil Rowe 5W40 was poured into the Lada Vesta of automotive journalists. It was chosen because it is officially supplied to the car showrooms of this dealer network in Kazakhstan. The Lada Vesta engine control unit was checked for errors using a special scanner, which had an interface similar to the Windows 8 operating system. This equipment is certified for the Lada Vesta model car. According to specialists from the official Lada service station in Kazakhstan, this device costs about 300,000 rubles. Fortunately, this device did not show errors in the Lada Vesta engine control unit.
This is what the error scanner looks like for the Lada Vesta engine control unit.
When lifting the Lada Vesta car onto a lift, it was immediately discovered that the winter tires of the Nokian Nordman 5 model had lost quite a lot of studs in the conditions of winter Russian roads.

Automotive journalists used the editorial purchased Lada Vesta not only in Russia, but also in Kazakhstan. And it so happened that a run of 15,000 kilometers found them precisely on the territory of Kazakhstan. Therefore, the Lada Vesta sedan underwent maintenance at a company service station of one of the official dealers of the Lada brand in Kazakhstan. It’s worth mentioning right away that the first maintenance for the Lada Vesta cost them 3,937 rubles in equivalent.
Benefits of proper wheel alignment
With proper regulation of this parameter, you can achieve maximum directional stability of the car. The car will behave straightforwardly and predictably. Such a car increases maneuverability, reduces the risk of skidding and the occurrence of emergency situations while driving. A correctly adjusted wheel alignment parameter even guarantees a reduction in fuel consumption.
If the corners are not set, then such a car can lead to disastrous consequences. This is especially dangerous when driving on slippery roads. The driver will have to constantly adjust the trajectory, steer and be on edge. Such a car poses a serious risk not only to the driver and passengers, but also to other road users.
If you want to learn more about wheel alignment https://borauto-tambov.ru/. Nowadays, such work is carried out quickly and efficiently. All work is carried out using modern equipment, and this guarantees high quality.
What it is?
Wheel alignment is a characteristic that determines the position of the wheel axle. Toe is the angle between the car wheel and the tie rod. If the wheels are aligned relative to each other, then the angle is positive. A negative angle is achieved due to different directions of the wheels. These parameters are set using special equipment that can calculate them down to tenths of a millimeter.
Camber is the angle that is taken into account between the position of the vehicle wheel and the road surface. When the wheel indicator is positive, its upper part is tilted away from the body; when it is negative, towards the body.
If the wheels are not aligned correctly, the car may go off track, and the tread will wear out on only one side.
What does wheel alignment affect? If you are an experienced motorist, then you have long known the answer to this question. If this parameter is not adjusted as required, you will very soon feel it when driving your car.
The correct wheel angle allows you to feel the road better and react faster to dangerous situations. Violation of such an exhibition will lead to emergency situations on the road. Right up to the most dangerous consequences.
When driving, you need to relax and enjoy the road. Constant tension due to the vehicle leaving the path has a negative impact on the driver’s physical condition.
Tire installation angles on Lada Vesta SV
The year 2017 was marked for AvtoVAZ with the launch of a new modification of the Lada Vesta SW Cross, which immediately gained great popularity among Russian buyers. Thus, this car is an all-terrain station wagon with a 1.8-liter engine, which is very convenient to use in winter, when traveling outside the city and for family outings.

Wheels R17 for Lada Vesta SW Cross
The main distinguishing features of the model were its ergonomics, increased luggage capacity, stylish exterior, the presence of a large number of modern options, as well as huge wheels with a rim diameter of 17 inches, which by the standards of Russian small cars is considered impressive parameters. In general, the wheels for this modification of the car have the following dimensional and other parameters:
Among the brands, the plant has contracts with Nizhnekamskshina, Cordiant and some other domestic companies. However, many brands, including those with a worldwide reputation and a long history, produce tires with the same dimensional parameters.
On a note!
You should immediately take into account that cars are leaving the production line equipped only with summer tires, which requires their seasonal replacement in the coming winter. Moreover, the low profile of factory tires often obliges the driver to also purchase a set of winter tires along with wheels.
- If you analyze the wheel alignment angles, the vehicle's operating manual specifies the permissible toe-in and camber parameters, namely camber from 0° + 15' to 0° + 30', toe-in can vary from 0° + 10' to 0° + 30 '. As for caster, the indicators are slightly different - within 2° 20'(±) 30'. All other parameters identified during maintenance are subject to adjustment and adjusted to standard values.
- The optimal tire sole width for the Lada Vesta SV is 205 mm, and the cord is permanently marked R, which means the most common radial type in the global automotive industry.
M+S tires for Lada Vesta SW Cross
- The size of Lada Vesta tires in this configuration does not depend on anything and is available in only a single parameter. As mentioned above, this car comes off the assembly line with a tire diameter of 17 inches, which is the maximum for most AvtoVAZ passenger models.
- The tire speed and load indices for the Lada station wagon are 92N (630 kg and 210 km/h, respectively), which is almost 70% higher than the factory specifications.
- All tires installed on the conveyor are required to be marked XL and M + S, where the first characteristic means the reinforced frame of the tire on Vesta, which indicates the possibility of its short-term overload or the prevention of deformation when performing sharp maneuvers at high speed. As for the second indicator, it means an abbreviation for Mud and Snow (“mud” and “snow”), and this gives the motorist the opportunity to freely use rubber both in off-road conditions and on snow, where traction properties will be equally effective. However, these characteristics do not at all mean good grip on slippery surfaces in winter, and the tires can be more classified as all-season products that work well down to -10 degrees Celsius.
- All wheels for the Lada Vesta SW Cross are made in a cast version with a special design that matches the overall exterior of the flagship of the AvtoVAZ concern.
Important!
When purchasing new tires or wheels for this modification of the Lada, the driver should adhere to all factory parameters, since it is with them that the car behaves on the road as confidently as possible, and the appearance of the products is fully compatible with the appearance of the body.

Expert advice
When choosing tires for a car, you must first follow the manufacturer's instructions. Ask yourself a few questions.
- On what roads will the car be primarily used?
- Do you need increased cross-country ability?
- How much of the route will be city roads and how much will be highways?
- Will the vehicle carry heavy loads?
The answers to these and similar questions will help determine which tire parameters you need to pay special attention to.
How to choose the right wheels for Lada Vesta SV Cross 2022?
3 types of rims:
- Stamped (economical price category) - made from a sheet of iron by stamping on a press.
- Light alloy - manufactured by casting (more reliable than stamped ones).
- Forged (the highest quality and more expensive than the previous ones) - made from light alloys by stamping at high temperatures.
The choice depends on financial capabilities. However, it should be borne in mind that the quality of the road surface on which you have to drive every day must also be taken into account.
So, if it gets into a hole, a stamped disk will bend and will not cause harm to the tire, but a forged or cast one can cut it. There is a possibility that the cast disc may burst or crack.
It should also be noted that repairing “stamping” wheels is cheaper than repairing cast or forged wheels. But wheels with high-quality cast and forged disks kill the suspension less, because lighter and have more perfect geometry (better balanced).
The same wheels may or may not rub with tires on the same car - wheel alignment adjustment will help here.
What is the tire pressure?
It is the driver's responsibility to constantly monitor tire pressure. This will avoid standard problems associated with vehicle operation. An abnormal pressure value often causes:
- deterioration of management;
- uneven tread wear.
Often the car owner independently reduces the pressure in the wheels of his own vehicle. This reduces the load on the suspension, and the car “passes” various road irregularities an order of magnitude easier. But it is worth noting: a decrease in pressure even by 0.1 MPa leads to serious problems. The main ones include:
- increased fuel consumption;
- rapid wear of the outer tread segments;
- the car becomes less maneuverable.
An overinflated wheel causes no less problems. The central part of the cylinder begins to wear off quickly. In addition, at ambient temperatures of more than 60 degrees Celsius, the tire may simply explode. Which will lead to driving into the oncoming lane.

Conservatism or modern approach, which is better?
But such a conservative approach is more suitable for old Ladas, Muscovites, Volgas, Cossacks, as well as ancient foreign cars.
On modern cars, it is, of course, better to carry out such work at a service station, where, with the help of modern laser and computer equipment, everything will be done at a high level without any errors. And we all know that even a small error in this matter can lead to rapid tire wear.
A service station is certainly good, they will do everything quickly and accurately. But there is always a BUT. Firstly, no matter what modern equipment is in a car service center, without a good specialist it is a pile of scrap metal. And here problems can arise:
1. How much do you trust this specialist;
2. How accurately will the work be carried out (when the equipment was checked for compliance with metrological standards) and whether such accuracy is worth the money;
3. What guarantees will you be given for the work performed? Secondly, depending on the condition of the roads in your region, where you generally drive and the intensity of your trips, the period of work on wheel alignment may vary.
As a rule, it can vary from one month to six months. And some drivers generally visit the service station only once a year. If a driver has to visit a service station once every 1–3 months, then these are significant expenses and here many should think about saving money. Of course, if you have an expensive foreign car, then you will have to come to terms with such expenses, but if you have our domestic car, then you can do the wheel alignment of the car yourself without any problems. Thirdly, after any intervention in the chassis and steering of the car, be it replacing steering rods, replacing power steering, replacing shock absorbers, changing summer tires to winter tires and vice versa, or carrying out any other work, it is imperative to carry out control measurements of wheel alignment and the need to make appropriate adjustments. Fourthly, there may not be a good service station in your region, or just at the most inopportune moment the equipment failed, and you noticed that the outer or inner edge of the tire began to wear out heavily, and this is a clear sign of incorrect wheel alignment. This list could go on for a long time, but let's get down to business. What needs to be done To carry out the relevant work, you will need certain knowledge, which we will now give you, and a special ruler, with the help of which the correct toe and camber angles of the car wheels are set.
There are also special digital toe-in meters and adjusters, which are mainly used on foreign cars, but you are unlikely to find them in your garage, and they cost from 100 to 300 dollars.
And yet, if you have a modern foreign car, then most likely you will need special keys for such work, which are not so easy to find. This is one of the disadvantages of adjusting wheel alignment yourself.
Wheel camber
Wheel alignment
Adjusting the camber angle
This procedure is relatively simple and can be done at home. To do this, you will need a special driver's tool, a cord with a plumb line, chalk and a flat area to place your car.
This process is carried out in several stages:
- We place the car on a level area and align the front wheels level, and then, using chalk, make marks on them from the outside from the bottom and top.
- At this stage, we set the plumb line in the same plane with the marks, placing it near the wing. After this, we measure the distances from the cord to each mark. In this case, you should measure not to the tire itself, but to the disk at the farthest edge - the rim. It should be clarified that the data should not differ by more than 3 mm.
- After this, after rolling the car, turning the wheels first 90 and then 180 degrees, we carry out a similar procedure.
- At this stage, we remove the tire and also dismantle the bolts that secure the steering knuckle and the shock absorber strut bracket. The adjustment is made by moving the steering knuckle in a certain direction.
Front wheel alignment
If the amount of toe differs from the norm, then it is necessary to loosen the tie rods of the side links and use the key 67.7813.9504 to turn both couplings by the same amount in opposite directions; Thus, the couplings are screwed in or out and change the length of the side rods.
After making the adjustment, install the tie clamps with the slot backwards, with a permissible deviation downwards of 60° to the horizontal plane of the car.
When the nuts are tightened, the edges of the slots in the tie clamps should not touch.
After adjusting the wheel toe, check to see if the wheels and steering gear parts are touching adjacent parts of the suspension and body.
To do this, turn the wheels completely in both directions until the bipod rests on the steering gear housing mounting bolts.
When to check wheel alignment?
This procedure must be used after each intervention in the suspension or chassis of the car. Check the wheel angle alignment after the following procedures:
- Replacement of steering parts. If you have changed rods, racks, ball joints, tips and other parts, you must check the wheel alignment.
- If you have performed operations related to changing the vehicle's clearance. Installing gaskets, replacing springs, replacing shock absorbers, etc. may affect wheel alignment.
- Changing the car's behavior on the road. If you feel that your vehicle has begun to shift from its trajectory and behave nervously, then be sure to visit a service station.
- Seasonal tire replacement. Adjusting your wheels will help not only increase road stability, but also extend the life of the tread.
Equipment used
Wheel alignment is a procedure that is performed in car repair shops using specialized equipment. Of course, you can do all the operations in your garage using available materials. But where is the guarantee that you will do everything correctly?
Adjusting the wheel angles with your own hands is done using a plumb line and a tape measure. But it is better to use modern equipment for this. Moreover, this procedure costs a penny.
- Optical stand. This is one of the first types of such equipment that was used to adjust wheel angles. Today, it is giving way to more modern technology. But some services successfully use optical stands today. Although they are already considered archaic.
- Laser equipment. The most popular type of wheel alignment equipment today. Unlike optical stands, laser ones are more accurate and easier to use. The data is transmitted to the monitor, where the operator can work with it in real time. There is a special program that shows deviations from the required parameters.
- Computer systems. Modern equipment. Wireless sensors are installed on the wheels, which transmit parameters to the computer. Where they are compared with optimal performance. The operator only needs to carry out small manipulations to align the wheels. The process takes only a few minutes. The result after visiting such complexes will definitely please you.
- 3D stands. The most modern equipment at the moment for adjusting wheel alignment. The car is driven onto a stand with wheel linings. It rolls over them. To read data, cameras are used that transmit numbers to special computing equipment. After comparison with the nominal parameters, the wheels are adjusted.
From this article you could understand what a wheel alignment is and why it is needed. Correct wheel alignment guarantees high-quality operation of the vehicle. Be sure to carry out the procedure for setting the wheel angle at trusted service stations. Then you will reduce the risk of an accident and the car leaving the trajectory.
Problem with the Lada Vesta stabilizer link
After the warranty replacement of the front suspension ball joint on the Lada Vesta sedan, we were sent to a four-point lift to adjust the camber and toe angles. On this lift, the suspension and wheels are supported by the weight of the vehicle. As a result, service technicians were able to determine the second cause of the knocking noise in the front suspension. The left stabilizer link had play. A similar problem with the front suspension of the Lada Vesta car is very popular, so it can be attributed to a factory defect. There have already been a lot of videos on the Internet from owners of the Lada Vesta sedan who have experienced play in the stabilizer link. Automotive journalists hoped that the Kazakh official Lada service station would immediately replace the left stabilizer bar under warranty. However, it turned out that this spare part is not included in the mandatory supply kits of spare parts to the warehouses of official dealers. It had to be ordered and waited. And since automotive journalists were in a hurry to return to Russia, they did not do this.

To begin with, we measured the indicators on the stand after installing wheels with standard parameters. By the way, we were surprised! My beam was CROPPED from the factory! shifted to the right along the fastenings! (hello AvtoVAZ), we tried to correct the situation, it turned out to be a couple of millimeters, but still not ideal.
We taxi and take a closer look
One of the main strengths of the Lada Vesta is its good handling.
A pleasant, not at all empty, but, on the contrary, responsive steering wheel paired with “mechanics” and a more powerful engine overall create a decent impression.
In the case of the “station wagon,” these sensations remained unchanged. Here's a version with a less powerful, 106-horsepower engine, which will obviously be much more boring. And you certainly shouldn’t expect miracles from a robotic gearbox - having driven around the metropolis first with it and then with a manual gearbox, I definitely realized that a manual gearbox is better for me. Although the drivers I met and interviewed in detail, in response to my questions, chuckled, waved their hands and said that “they are fine.”
The five-speed gearbox has always seemed to me to be very successful - it shifts clearly, you don’t have to stick the “knob” for a long time to find the desired speed, the gears are long - the engine does not stall, even if it gets lazy.
But after about a month, I began to notice that the reverse gear does not always stick in - when the rear view camera has already turned on and the music has died down, the car refuses to drive, and then the lever needs to be pushed with some effort.
After a couple of months, for an inexplicable reason, sometimes the first gear began to “get lost,” although I was already completely accustomed to the car. But this did not always occur, as, by the way, did the squeaking of the brakes, which began after severe frosts, despite the fact that the car at the time of the test drive had a minimum mileage of less than 1 thousand km.
