Technical characteristics of Lada Kalina 2022

According to AvtoVAZ engineers. The build quality of new cars has improved quite significantly, all driver feedback has been taken into account and appropriate improvements have been made. The weight and overall dimensions of the 2022 Lada Kalina have not changed, although the appearance has been slightly improved, and there is a little more space in the cabin. The car still belongs to the small class (category B) and has the following dimensions:

• The length is – 3,893 mm – for a hatchback; 4,084 mm - for a station wagon. • The width is – 1,700 mm. • Height is – 1,504 mm. • Ground clearance for the basic version is 160 mm; Sport – 140 mm; Cross – 205 mm. • Wheelbase width – 2,476 mm. • Total assembled weight – 1,050 kg.

The new product also has fourteen-inch wheels with 175/65 tires. The number of doors and seating positions has not changed compared to the previous model, it is five. The body remains in two versions - a two-volume station wagon or a hatchback.

The new Kalina will be equipped with updated engines. These are sixteen-valve engines, the chamber volume of which will be 1.6 liters. Depending on the model this is:

• VAZ 11186 - engine 88 hp, maximum torque 140 Nm; • VAZ 21116 - engine with a power of 98 hp, maximum torque of 146 Nm; • VAZ 21127 - engine with a power of 106 hp, maximum torque of 150 Nm.

The engines feature an electronic fuel injection system and an updated control system. The maximum speed with the 21127 engine reaches 190 km/h. With a mixed cycle, the new fuel consumption will be 6.5 liters. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h for the new product is 11 seconds. The accelerator has an electronic pedal (E-gas). There are three gearbox options:

• classic manual five-speed gearbox; • five-speed robotic gearbox; • four-speed automatic transmission;

It is impossible to say that the car has been greatly altered, but this is confirmed by the photo of the Lada Kalina 2022. There aren't many appearance updates, but there are still some. The car body was trimmed with new-shaped side skirts. Although they are made of plastic, this practically does not affect the quality, since heavy-duty plastic was used to make the moldings. In general, the updated Lada has quite a lot of plastic inserts. Whether this is good or bad is up to the drivers to decide. The rear doors of the car are equipped with decorative nameplates, and on the roof you can find a special mount for transporting small cargo.

The new Lada Kalina 2022 2017 has received a higher ground clearance and now it is very similar to an SUV. At the same time, the cross-country ability of the new car was increased by an order of magnitude. In general, you can notice that there is a tendency to make a full-fledged crossover out of Kalina. To achieve this, AvtoVAZ engineers seriously changed the overall layout of the suspension, shock absorbers and chassis. It is too early to judge what will come of this, but the direction of development chosen is very interesting.

Due to the higher ground clearance, the car acquired a new look - it began to look more aggressive. This should appeal to many crossover lovers, because the price of the model remains low, which makes it very attractive. Front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive modifications are possible. The body length of the new product has become somewhat longer due to an increase in the distance between the wheelbases, which brings it even closer to the crossover family. The radiator grille and lighting of the new model have not changed. Atovaz engineers also claim that the vehicle’s noise insulation has improved significantly.

The interior of the new Lada Kalina 2022 has changed quite little and remains at approximately the same level as the version sold this year. Among the new products, we can note the appearance of new ISOFIX fastenings and the ability to adjust the degree of tension of the seat belts. The interior itself has become a little larger due to the overall increase in the car.

New materials began to be used in interior decoration, and their color range was significantly expanded. These innovations make the interior more attractive and allow for greater personalization of the car. As mentioned above, noise insulation, as well as vibration protection, have been seriously improved.

An interesting change for car enthusiasts in the new car was the increase in the trunk. This is an important step, because now the luggage compartment volume will be 350 liters, which is a fairly decent figure. The trunk has been increased through the use of new VW technologies. This is the first SUV crossover in Russia that has such a large trunk volume. Although this indicator is hard to surprise owners of crossovers of the same type manufactured in Europe.

Differences and similarities with other VAZ models

The Lada Kalina Cross is strikingly different from all AvtoVAZ models, starting with the currently popular Lada Granta, ending with the base model Lada Kalina and Lada Kalina 2.

The car received a very bright, memorable appearance. No brevity or excessive modesty, which is what the basic Lada Kalina and even the more modern, but equally unshowy second-generation Kalina are known for. The image breathes with swiftness, confidence, and power.

Sloping body shapes and unexpected curves make the Cross similar to the famous Renault and Peugeot models. From the previous generation Kalina, Cross received only medium-sized lanterns and a neat false grille, although these elements also went through the creative laboratory of talented designers.

The Cross has larger wheels, which transformed Kalina beyond recognition. Instead of a domestic barrel-shaped car, we got a chic, dynamic station wagon, a real station wagon that can easily compete with its Western counterparts.

The ground clearance was also increased, which now amounted to 208 mm, which both emphasized the individual style of the model and added driving comfort.

The word “Cross”, which appears in Kalina’s name, quite confidently tells us that this is not just some ordinary sedan, but a very crossover. The developers have actively worked on the appearance of the new product. We started by increasing the already decent ground clearance. Now they promise 183 mm. The bumper now has additional protection against damage that may occur when hitting large obstacles.

Along with the increase in ground clearance, the width of the wheelbase has also increased. This also led to an increase in the width of the car itself. Although the dimensions of the car have not changed much, it has acquired a more impressive and aggressive appearance. Design solutions bypassed the headlights and radiator grille. The car acquired brutality due to sharp transitions from one element to another, instead of the previous “roundness”. The impression is also enhanced by plastic moldings on the sides, wheel arches and bumpers.

Against the background of the constant appearance of new cars on the world market, the Lada Vesta of the 2015 model year is not such a new product. However, it can still be considered the discovery of the Russian car market thanks to its very modern appearance and well-thought-out technical “stuffing”. The sedan's exterior was designed by ex-Mercedes-Benz and Volvo designer Steve Mattin, and was among the first people lucky enough to sit in it.

The raised cross-country hatchback Lada Xray, which AvtoVAZ dubbed a crossover for advertising purposes, is called by many the highest quality model of the domestic manufacturer, and there is indeed reason for this. Firstly, there is an abundance of high quality imported parts, and secondly, this car has decent ground clearance and a proprietary 1.8-liter engine.

Cars nowadays don't work on anything. There are even hydrogen ones that literally “live” on fuel cells. Water is, of course, good and incredibly environmentally friendly, but it is still painfully unpopular and expensive to implement. Is it compressed natural gas or, as it is also called, methane in a cylinder, like the new version of Lada Vesta CNG (Compressed Natural Gas)! A gas sedan is cheaper.

5- and 7-seater Lada Largus station wagons appeared on the Russian market in 2012, becoming a kind of continuation of the cheapest Renault Logan model, only under the auspices of a domestic manufacturer. As you might guess, the Logan-like Largus turned out to be the first Lada car built on the basis of the budget B0 platform, on the basis of which a number of Lada, Renault and Nissan models were designed.

If the image doesn’t bother you, you like the ground clearance, like a jeep, and in addition, you’ll admire the large capacity in the form of a 5/7-seater interior and a huge trunk, and “not expensive” - that’s all, we’ve arrived. Yes, not on anything, but on a raised Lada Largus with a talking Cross prefix and, of course, DNA from Renault Logan. This model, first presented to Russians in 2015, has no competitors.

The domestic auto industry never ceases to amaze. For example: when the Russian press first said that AvtoVAZ was preparing a “sports” version of the second Lada Kalina in a hatchback body, it was more difficult to get a new product for a test drive than another Bentley or Mercedes. Amazing, right? For VAZ people there is nothing special about this: not many significant new products are released after all.

What is a 3- or 5-door Lada 4×4 with the Urban prefix? Some kind of supernova Niva? In relation to an off-road passenger car from the glorious city of Togliatti, these words smack of piercing irony. New, of course - it’s been around for almost 40 years, of which 10 years the model has not been called Niva. But somehow I can’t seem to forget about my “maiden name”... So, what does “urban” promise?

Competitors

The number of competitors of the Lada Kalina Cross is large. Firstly, of course, the second generation of Kalina, but the Cross version is ahead of them in all respects, except for price, Cross costs about 450,000 rubles depending on the configuration, while a simple Lada Kalina 2 sells from 390,000 rubles.
More serious competitors are the Skoda Fabia Scout and Volkswagen Cross Polo, both cars cost approximately the same, around 740,000 rubles.

Yes, in terms of the price category, Cross comes out ahead, but in terms of technical capabilities, needless to say, foreigners are ahead, although on our roads, again, Kalina remains the optimal solution.
