The front-wheel drive sedan was produced by the Volzhsky Automobile Plant for 12 years. The last copy rolled off the assembly line in 2007. The model belongs to the budget segment, valued by drivers for its unpretentiousness to fuel, relatively good assembly, and maintainability.
The VAZ 2110 door lock is not a frequent consumable; its average service life is 3 years. Considering that the last VAZ 2110 was produced 12 years ago, standard parts need partial repair or complete replacement.
Driver's door lock
Last Saturday I decided to do a quick repair, namely adjust the driver's door lock.
But since it didn’t work out quickly, I will describe it for a long time. The driver's door opened very poorly, to open it you had to push the handle upward as hard as you could. I don’t know, maybe this often happens with dozens of people, like even one guy told me, whose tenner is the same year as mine, the door opens easier compared to his, although his car’s condition is two times better - but it’s possible pull out the handle by the roots. After some ordeal, I found out that if you hold the lock button and pull it up, the door begins to open without much effort. This inconvenience did not suit me at all, so I decided to quickly disassemble the door and adjust it. But that was not the case, everything dragged on much longer than I expected. The first trouble awaited me when I removed the card from the door, I saw that one of the card fasteners where the holders (pistons) are inserted was left hanging on the door. And unfortunately I discovered that the card was missing a couple of these mounts. But ok I think. these are little things, let's move on (In the end, I glued this holder with the same glue that someone had already riveted it with).
When I got to the lock mechanism itself, I thought that I could easily lift up the handle lever, set it to the desired level and that’s it. Yeah, it’s not like that, here’s the second problem. Having done this procedure, it did not give any result. Having removed the lock mechanism, I saw that its parts were so heavily developed that the lever that is responsible for locking the lock simply does not lock, but returns to the locking position, as a result of which the second lever cannot fully move the tongue to press.
Naturally I decided to install a new mechanism. Having driven to the store, installed and configured the lock, the door began to open as it should.
And here the third biggest trouble awaited. The lock activator could not cope with the door lock lever and could not move it either up or down. (That is, from Sighnaghi I could not close and open the doors). After trying to somehow set it all up and regulate it, I decided to go back to the store and buy a new activator. I bought it and replaced it with the same song.
After several hours of fighting with the activator, we managed to defeat it by replacing it from a two-wire to a five-wire, which goes to the central locking. I had to do this due to the fact that the “traditional” method of attaching the activator rod, using the kit that comes with the activator, did not give any results. All dances with a tambourine were useless. So, the central locking itself was apparently installed from the factory because there was a switch (toggle switch) inside the lock, which gave a signal to open and close the doors.
And this switch played all the time. It has a plastic lever that fits into the eye of the lock. And this eyelet was exactly what was needed to secure the rod from the activator, thereby the force of the activator will be transmitted directly to the lock. Therefore, we had to get rid of the factory switch.
Having installed a five-wire activator, I connected two wires for opening, and three that were left over from the factory switch. I bent the rod itself and inserted it into the eye of the lock. After that everything worked.
The 10-point clips on which the door cards are attached are such a shame, I installed eight-point clips - they are easier to install and the card holds on more tightly.

Principle of operation
The door lock of the VAZ 2110 car consists of two parts - mechanical and electronic (not in all trim levels). The mechanical part includes three types of working schemes:
- constipation;
- lever;
- blocking.
The main task of the locking mechanism circuit is to secure the door. The design uses a locking pawl and a turning latch. When the driver's door is closed, the turn signal latch moves behind the lock holder bracket. The pawl has two recesses - the main one and the additional one. With their help, the locking pawl holds the position of the rotary latch. When the door is completely closed, the pawl lever falls into the main recess. If the door is not closed completely, when the door is slammed, the rotary pawl falls into an additional recess and the door still remains closed, but a larger opening is visually visible. An additional recess is made for the safety of the driver and passengers.
The lever mechanism ensures the door opens. The force from the door handles is transmitted through the corresponding rods to the lever mechanism. It acts on the locking pawl. The rotary latch is released, rotated, and the mechanism opens. After the door is opened, the locking mechanism returns to its original position due to the action of the return spring of the lever mechanism.
The locking mechanism is designed to stop the opening mechanism. The cylinder is connected to the locking mechanism with a special rod and, using the ignition key, it locks the door.
Adjusting the VAZ-2110 door lock
It is difficult to imagine a modern car without doors. It is through them that the driver and passengers gain access to the cabin. At the same time, the path to the vehicle must be closed to unauthorized persons. This function is assigned to one of the door elements - the lock.

Long-term operation in different temperature conditions and frequent operation can lead to premature failure or disruption of the adjustment of some elements. In this case, the car locks may not fully cope with their functions or may even refuse to work at all. In such a situation, the car owner must take timely measures to configure and adjust the door lock. Otherwise, one day he himself may not get into his car.
Features of doors and locks
The operating principle and design of most locking devices installed on cars are practically the same. Of all the car locks, only the ignition switch is the most reliable. It is he who is the last to protect the car from theft after an attacker has entered the cabin. In turn, the doors have to withstand various mechanical impacts day after day, which inevitably lead to wear. At the same time, rarely do any car enthusiasts take proper care of their doors and locking devices.
What functions do car doors perform? There are two of them - protective (preventing unauthorized persons from entering the cabin) and insulating (creating a tightness of the car to prevent rain, wind, snow, cold, and so on from entering it).
To increase service life, all metal parts of doors must be treated with special anti-corrosion compounds. This allows you to avoid the untimely appearance of corrosion on the metal and its destruction.
When to adjust?
As we have already said, door locks are one of the most critical components of a car. In the absence of alarm and remote control of the central locking system, this element has to withstand constant loads. To prevent lock failure and ensure its quality operation, it is necessary to adjust it from time to time.
There may be several reasons why the lock may not function properly - careless handling of the lock (for example, rough turning of the key), exposure to adverse natural influences, natural wear and tear (long-term use of the car). In addition, if an attempt is made to steal, the car's locking system may also be damaged. In such a situation, adjustment or complete replacement of the cylinder is often necessary.
Features of adjusting the door lock on the VAZ-2110
Let's start with the fact that all adjustment work can be carried out without dismantling the door, which greatly simplifies the procedure. Therefore, choose any convenient place for setting up - the main thing is that there is enough light, as well as enough space to fully open the door and move around it normally. It is best if the adjustment is made in an open area.
The sequence of actions is as follows:
— first, make sure that the car doors close normally and nothing is blocking them. It often happens that the lock does not work precisely because the door does not close completely;
— if the doors do not close or it is necessary to apply excessive force to perform these actions, then loosen the fastening screws of the fixing element;
— after unscrewing the screws, move the clamp slightly to the outside and tighten all the nuts tightly. Carefully ensure that the fixing structure is not distorted;
- Observe the process of closing the door. If at the moment of entering the “grooves” it seems to “bounce” up, then the latch should be lowered a little. After this, check the closure again;
— if during the closing process the door, on the contrary, lowers, then it is advisable to unscrew the fixing element and lower it a little.
We do all this work for a reason. Adjusting the lock largely depends on the position of the latch itself. In 90% of cases, such problems are solved precisely by correctly installing the element mentioned above. The locks themselves fail less often. If a breakdown occurs, then the only solution is replacement.
Features of adjusting the trunk lock on the VAZ-2110
There is a lock not only on the front doors of the car, but also on the trunk. If the trunk lid begins to close loosely, does not close at all, or requires a lot of effort, then you cannot do without high-quality adjustments:
— remove the lock casing from the inside so that you can make adjustments and get to the fastening screws of the locking device;
— unscrew the mounting screws and move the lock in the required direction (left or right, up or down);

- check the quality of the work performed. Ideally, the lid should close with a slight “pop” and little effort on the part of the car enthusiast.
Perform the above mentioned manipulations until the lock closes clearly and securely fixes the tailgate. After completing the adjustment, make sure the fastening nut is tightly tightened;
— check that the latch and the lock latch fit together well. If this does not happen, then the fixing bolts must be slightly loosened and the lock must be moved in any direction. In this case, you will have to act by eye;
— the final stage is a final check of the quality of closing the trunk. If everything is clear, then you can safely be proud of yourself. If not, then repeat the adjustment until the expected result is achieved;
— tighten all the bolts and treat the locks with silicone grease.
If the lock itself in the door is faulty (for example, the key cannot be inserted, there is obvious mechanical damage), replace the cylinder. For this:
- remove the door trim;
- Unscrew the rod from the cylinder with a screwdriver;
— remove the locking plate;
— take out the lock cylinder and install a new one;
- return everything to its place.

Replacing the larva
In some cases, it is not necessary to change the entire door lock on a VAZ 2110. It is enough to limit yourself to replacing the larva, which may jam.
The cylinder is a small metal cylinder containing a mechanism that is turned by a key. Each such element is individual; only one key can fit it.
To dismantle and replace the cylinder, you will need a flat-head screwdriver and pliers. Step-by-step work:
- Remove the door card.
- Insert a screwdriver between the cylinder and the traction mechanism, turning them slightly, disconnect them.
- Pry up the bracket - a flat metal retainer, cylinders, and remove it from its seat with pliers.
- Remove the cylinder from the outside of the door and replace it with a new one, performing the work in reverse order.
