In search of an inexpensive car, many drivers pay attention to the offers of the AvtoVAZ company. The Lada Granta model is especially popular.

Lada Granta Classic. The only difference from the previous one is the availability of auxiliary options. For example, the car has an on-board computer, and auxiliary preparation of the rear seats is carried out. The steering column is equipped with an electric drive and its height can be adjusted. The front doors are also equipped with electric power steering. The wheels have grown to 14 inches.
Lada Granta Classic Start. This modification already has a new power plant in the form of a gasoline engine with a power of 106 “horses” and a four-speed automatic transmission. As an option, an additional gear cushion in front of the front passenger, air conditioning and a higher-quality audio system are installed.
Lada Granta Comfort. You can choose one of two engines – 87 or 98 horsepower. The second engine comes with an automatic transmission and, accordingly, costs more. The front seats are heated; the front passenger, like the driver, has a visor with a mirror.
Lada Granta Comfort Optima. There is only a 106 horsepower engine installed here, you can choose a transmission. A heated windshield system is available as an additional option.
Lada Granta Luxe. This modification is available with engines with 87 or 106 horsepower. The first engine comes only with a manual gearbox; for the second, you can choose between manual and automatic. This car has a built-in 12-volt socket, a cigarette lighter and ashtray, and electric drive for all four doors. An electric drive is also installed on the external rearview mirrors. By the way, they also have turn signals installed. There is climate control, rain, light and parking sensors are installed. Among other things, the cabin is equipped with a multimedia system with a 7-inch touch screen and four speakers.
Lada Granta Luxe Prestige. The power of the gasoline engine of this car is 106 horsepower. You can choose a manual or automatic transmission. The most expensive equipment includes traction control, directional stability, and a hill assist function.
Here are some points to consider when purchasing new items this year. And it should be noted that the new Lada Granta sedan 2018 is really very attractive in terms of equipment.
Will pull from the very bottom
The test liftback was equipped with a 1.6-liter 106-horsepower engine combined with a manual transmission. An interesting combination for a trip to the Zhiguli Mountains. I appreciated the flexible nature of the engine immediately, even on the streets of Togliatti. It has very good traction from below; to shift up, it is not necessary to spin the engine, as, for example, on the Xray, up to 3000 rpm. You can shift much earlier, and the car will pull.
On one of the first climbs, I gave him a difficult task: to climb to the top in 4th gear at 1000 rpm. Mockery! The gearshift prompt suggested 2nd here! However, we moved in. At 1500 rpm, traction improves noticeably, at 2000 rpm - even more. Gear shifts are clear and error-free. But the noise from the box is noticeable. I remember that in the first generation Kalina it was the same (if not more), and the owner and I “defeated” it by replacing the factory oil with an imported transmission of the same parameters.
On smooth surfaces there are no problems with the Granta, and there are few of them on broken asphalt. The interior does not rattle as you would expect (hello to some “Chinese”), the suspension does not “talk”. When turning, you can feel the roll, the center of gravity of the car is perceived as high, but largely due to the fact that you are sitting high (relative to the window sill line). In general, you don’t get much drive on the serpentines of the Zhiguli Mountains, but you don’t feel fear either. Comfort and controllability are worth your money.
We check acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h on a horizontal straight line in fourth gear. It turns out to be a little over 10 seconds. The certified acceleration time from zero to hundreds is 10.6 s, in general, also a good indicator. But I wouldn’t believe the declared fuel consumption – an average of 6.5 liters per hundred. Without instructions, I didn’t immediately figure out how to reset the flow meter, but when I received the car it showed 11-liter consumption. During the test, appetite decreased to 10 liters; as for instant consumption, it remained at the level of 7.5 liters for a long time, which I would take as an average result for a not too high-speed highway (recommended gasoline, by the way, is 95). And in our case, a trip to Mount Strelnaya, more than 300 meters high, added its “mite.” The road up to the middle of the almost four-kilometer climb was the remains of asphalt mixed with soil and gravel; higher up there was only gravel. We moved mainly in second gear at 2000 rpm at a speed of 30 km/h, occasionally including third, increasing the speed to 2500 rpm and accelerating to 40 km/h. It was on this route, already on the descent, that the front left tire was punctured.
All new Grants are painted in seven colors. White (“White Cloud”) and black (“Panther”) are two-layer enamels. The remaining five options (red “Carnelian”, bright blue “Blue Planet”, silver “Riesling”, silver-gray “Borneo” and golden brown “Coriander”) are “metallics”, for such coloring an additional payment of 6,000 rubles will be required .
It is noteworthy that just a few minutes before, I photographed the car next to a large stone, clearly demonstrating the Granta’s high ground clearance (190 mm). Was it this stone that damaged the sidewall of the wheel? No, first of all, the car passed over him successfully. And secondly, the damage was on the outside, but the stone was only able to touch the inner surface of the tire.
In general, the standard ground clearance of the Granta was quite enough so that the car would never hit an uneven surface on the rather difficult road to the site on Mount Strelnaya. Here are some measurements I took on an unloaded liftback standing on the asphalt. Under the ends of the beam of the semi-independent rear suspension (the places where the rear wheel hubs are attached), the tape measure showed 19 cm, under the muffler (by the way, it is covered with black, not silver) 24 cm. Under the metal protection of the engine compartment, 20 cm was found, but on this protection there is a noticeable a protrusion from which to the ground is only about 16 cm.
Changes in the new Lada Granta sedan body in 2022
It is worth noting that externally this sedan differs from its predecessor, for the most part, only in the external rearview mirrors, which are now equipped with turn signals. The bumpers have also changed. By the way, changes in the interior are also minimal.
Among other things, the door seals and vacuum brake booster were replaced. The dimensions of the body have not changed in any way: length - 4.2 meters, width - 1.7 meters, height - 1.5 meters. The wheelbase size is 2.4 meters. And the ground clearance is 16 centimeters.
Power units
Almost nothing has changed in the power units. The updated Granta still has the same gasoline monsters: an 8-valve engine with an output of 87 hp. (with a 5-speed manual) and a 16-valve engine with a power of 98 hp. (with Jatco automatic), 106 hp. with dynamic supercharging (with mechanics or robot).
For a mechanical 5-speed gearbox, the gear ratio of the main gear has been increased from 3.7 to 3.9, which should lead to a more confident start. In the AMT robot, a new clutch with increased heat resistance was used and the firmware was changed, which should reduce gear shifting time in traffic jams by a third.
Also, a new creeping mode is designed for driving in dense traffic, and a special mode has appeared for winter, allowing you to start in manual mode from second gear. The 4-speed classic automatic transmission remains unchanged.
As for handling, the model received gas-filled shock absorbers and a gearless electric power steering with new settings in the steering system.

Despite the desire of the domestic auto industry to make the car more modern, it turned out pretty badly. And outwardly, the Lada Granta 2018 sedan looks even somewhat more affordable than it actually costs. What's worth noting about the features:
- The optics remain the same. It seems that the manufacturers did not even consider variations with LEDs.
- The body is simple: small in size, few edges and practically no complex surfaces.
- In more expensive modifications, a bumper is installed, which is painted to match the body color.
- The bumper has special recesses for fog lights, but such headlights are installed only in expensive modifications.
- The back also looks very discreet. The optics are large in size. The rear bumper is even smaller than the front. And it is worth noting that with the relatively small size of the wheel arches, it does not look so aesthetically pleasing.
But at the same time, Granta definitely stands out among other cars, because it is strikingly different from the rest.
If we talk about the interior, the salon looks quite decent for its price category. But it cannot be said that it will surpass any foreign car. Among the features are the following:
- Over time, the quality of the plastic used in the finishing may fail - noise may begin.
- The instrument panel is analogue, in the center there is a screen on which basic information is displayed.
- In the center are the air ducts and the standard system unit. The top version has a touch screen. Below is the climate control control unit.
- Between the seats there is a special block for glasses made of hard plastic.
- The chairs are covered with textile material. It cannot be called low-quality, but it has been noted more than once that over time, pellets and abrasions begin to appear on the finish. However, sooner or later this awaits any finishing material, especially if the machine is used quite often.
Appearance
The VAZ team, led by their tireless chief designer Steve Mattin, has thoroughly refreshed the appearance of the car. The main difference between the new products in the entire line is the slightly modified design of the front part of the hood in X-style, the same as that of the Lada Vesta.
In addition to the corporate X-design of the front with raised headlights at the edges, the angle of the front part has changed - it has become more aggressive and sportily expressive, which, of course, improves the aerodynamics of the new product. The side stampings have been removed.
The sedan received the most updates, which received an updated rear that best fits into the design of the X-face model.
Other bodies only received a new rear bumper. The sedan's license plate moved from the bumper to the trunk door. The headlights of all models now have a glossy dark backing. The inscription “LADA” appeared on the back of the cars.
