Although the Lada Granta cannot be called a masterpiece of the automotive industry, it will certainly leave its mark on the history of the domestic automotive industry.
Having replaced on the assembly line in 2011 the rather boring Samar family, the popular 10 and the first generation Kalina, which did not catch on, it was supposed to become a truly people's car.
And so it happened. Just a few years later, the Lada Granta became the best-selling domestic car in Russia.

A similar car with the same index based on the Kalina ( ZR, 2011, No. 10 ) did not go into production. AVTOVAZ stopped producing the sedan of the same name, and it was from this, the cheapest body of the family, that the cabin for the VIS was cut out. But, since the creators foresaw a change in the model range at the design stage, the redesign did not cause any particular difficulties.
Price
As for the cost of the mini-truck, today it is the cheapest representative of its class. And if you compare it in price with foreign analogues, then it is better to give preference to our manufacturer, especially since it is easy to repair, and spare parts are not particularly expensive.

They plan to produce the car with several bodies: an onboard one with a removable plastic cap and three types of vans - isothermal (with a wall thickness of 30, 40 or 50 mm), a refrigerator and the so-called manufactured goods. The latest version also has an extended version - the outer length of the cargo section is 2200 mm versus 1900 mm for the standard one. We got it for a test drive.
The car looks modern and even stylish. The metallic-painted cabin is not at all a privilege of the exhibition model. This will be the case in the series, since cars are painted using AVTOVAZ’s Prior line. The interior, of course, is from the Lada-Grant in the “Standard” configuration. Everything is logical, because trucks, even semi-light ones, are in good demand in the cheapest versions - air conditioners and all sorts of other ABS are not popular here. But the driver’s airbag, like the donor’s, will become the norm. The rear part rests on leaf springs capable of providing a rated load capacity of 720 kg. You can get into the body from different sides - through a double-leaf rear door or through a single-leaf side door on the right side. All of them swing open all the way and are held in place by reliable latches located on the walls of the van.
It’s easy to drive – it’s not for nothing that VIS-AUTO’s designers consider the cabin to be the most spacious. On the move, the truck is naturally stiffer than the Granta, but it is very indifferent to road irregularities and does not show a tendency to vertical swing even on a large wave. The higher the speed, the smoother the car goes, sometimes resembling an arrow fired from a bow. VIS has retained almost car-like handling, but this only applies to an empty car. Obviously, with a heavy load the car will not be playful.

What is VIS-2349
The Granta cargo truck is a two-seater semi-frame pickup truck of the European type, which involves placing the cargo compartment on the basis of a regular passenger car with a monocoque body. In our case, the base is the standard VAZ 2190 sedan.
The front of the car remained the same, retaining the drive, and the rear was changed by integrating a frame frame and spring suspension. This solution made it possible to obtain a mini-truck that combines the compactness, comfort and handling of a passenger car with a decent load capacity.
The latter, by the way, is 720 kg . This, of course, is not too much, but a pickup truck is not a full-fledged truck. Be that as it may, VIS 2349 has proven itself to be excellent both as an urban transporter and as an agricultural worker.
Today, a Granta-based pickup truck is successfully used to transport:
- food;
- industrial goods;
- building materials;
- household appliances;
- furniture, etc.
In order to expand the functions of the mini-truck, its body can have various configurations.
Body types
The pickup truck is available in five body styles:
- 2349040-010 – with an open platform (on-board);
- 2349040-022 – with a rigid (plastic) superstructure;
- 2349040-210 – standard general purpose (manufactured goods) van;
- 2349040-220 – enlarged general purpose van;
- 2349040-440.0 – isothermal van.
Isothermal body
The insulated van can be manufactured with different wall thicknesses. The last two digits in the encoding indicate this value in millimeters.
Specifications
Regardless of the type of body, the pickup truck is equipped with the same type of power unit. This is a standard eighty-seven horsepower sixteen-valve gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.6 cubic centimeters. Transmission – five-speed manual.

Cabin and salon
The double cab of the pickup truck is quite spacious. Designers consider it the largest among all previously produced mini-trucks.
Pickup trucks with a flatbed structure are equipped with a rear window, and vans are equipped with a dome light for the cargo compartment. It is also noteworthy that an electronic accelerator pedal was left for the pickup truck.
The pickup truck's interior is not replete with all sorts of frills. A typical work machine, however, even in the basic configuration the cabin looks quite comfortable. It includes:
- driver's front airbag;
- electric power steering;
- possibility of adjusting the steering column height;
- electric windows;
- central locking;
- cabin filter.
The VIS-2349 is noticeably stiffer than a regular Granta due to the rear spring suspension, but even a loaded vehicle on the road has good stability and controllability.

VIS was founded in 1991, first as an enterprise for the production of components for VAZ cars. The first car, a pickup truck based on the Quartet, was built in 1993. Subsequently, more than two thousand such pickups were produced. The original semi-frame design - with a body attached to the passenger half on a spring suspension - appeared in 1997. At the beginning of 2009, car production was separated into a separate enterprise PSA VIS-AUTO, which to this day produces trucks with a carrying capacity of more than half a ton based on front-wheel drive (VIS-2347) and all-wheel drive (VIS-2346) VAZ models. From the date of its foundation to the end of the first quarter of this year, 38,872 cars rolled out of the enterprise’s gates.
Pickups based on Lada Granta
There are also a number of models that are based on a different base car model. First of all, it is worth noting the pickup truck, which has an open cargo platform. A two-seater car costs about 350,000 thousand rubles. The car is made on the basis of Lada Granta. The pickup truck features a gasoline engine with a volume of about 1.5 liters and a power of 90 horsepower. For a pickup truck, this is a pretty good result, considering that this is an average vehicle with a lot of cargo on board. The cargo compartment can accommodate approximately 1,000 liters of payload, which can be secured for safe transport.
A similar pickup truck, but with a rigid superstructure, has almost the same characteristics. That is, only two people can be in the cabin, the engine power and its volume are identical to the previous model. But it is worth noting that this version of the pickup truck can fit about 2,700 liters in the cargo compartment. This indicates excellent luggage compartment capacity. The pickup costs a little more than the previous one, namely 370 thousand rubles.
VIS-234900-40 is a vehicle equipped with a manufactured goods van. Made on the basis of the Lada Granta, like all previous versions. The gasoline engine still has the same power rating and has a volume of 1.5 liters. The luggage compartment has increased to 3,500 liters of payload, which can fit in a manufactured goods van.
It is worth noting the VIS car based on the same Lada, but only with a larger luggage compartment volume. It holds about 3900 liters of any cargo. Specifications remain the same. A car with this design costs about 380 thousand rubles.
And the last from the list of pickup trucks based on the Lada Granta is a double pickup truck, which is equipped with an isothermal van. The cost of the car exceeds 380 thousand rubles. But for this money, the pickup truck is able to withstand a load whose weight is 720 kg. The 90 horsepower engine is no different from the engines of previous models. But the capacity of the luggage compartment is 3500 liters.
In this article I would also like to talk about the VIS 2349 pickup truck, which is primarily intended for commercial purposes. It, like all the pickups in this article, is based on the Lada Granta. The pickup truck has a fairly modern appearance and a comfortable cabin for the driver and one passenger. The interior is literally completely copied from the Lada Granta. The on-board computer is located, as usual, on the dashboard. There are several varieties of this version, which are equipped with a van or are an on-board version, as well as a pickup truck with a rigid superstructure. VIS 2349 is so compact and convenient that it can easily maneuver even in the most cramped and small streets. The cargo compartment can accommodate about 3,200 liters of payload, which will be secured.

The engine line remains the same. These are three variations of the 1.6-liter gasoline 1.6-liter engine with three transmission options. The base 87-horsepower engine is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission, the 98-horsepower engine is combined with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and the top-end 1.6-horsepower engine is combined with a manual or robotic gearbox.
Granta cars with “mechanics” and “robots” received a gear ratio increased to 3.9:1 (the previous value was 3.7:1). Also, the domestically produced robotic gearbox has become quieter and has a creeping mode - the car starts moving when the brake is released), a clutch with increased wear resistance. The list of transmission modes has been supplemented with a “Sport” option with button activation and shorter gear shift times.

On September 1, sales of Granta line cars in all body types - sedan, hatchback, liftback, station wagon - started in the showrooms of official LADA dealers.
Due to four body styles, four trim levels with optional packages - Standart, Classic (with the optional Optima package), Comfort and Luxe (with the optional Prestige package) - 56 Grant configurations are available to the buyer.
The list of equipment for the Standard package includes a driver's airbag, Isofix mounts, a folding rear seat, tinting, ERA-GLONASS and ABS with emergency braking assist.
Station wagon
The Classic modification features improved sound insulation, an on-board computer, an external button for opening the trunk, power windows for the front doors and a height-adjustable steering wheel. Additionally, the Optima package is offered, which includes heated mirrors and air conditioning.
The Comfort version includes an airbag for the front passenger, seat belts with pretensioners, electrically adjustable mirrors, heated mirrors and turn signals, a mirror in the visor, mirror housings, handles and decorative trims in body color.
Hatchback
The equipment of the top-end Luxe version includes an alarm system, fog lights, climate control, an adjustable driver's seat, an electrically heated windshield, power windows at the rear, and a set of 15-radius wheels. The Prestige package is optionally available, which will expand the list of equipment with a stability control system, ABS, parking sensors, hill start assistant and light and rain sensors.
