Bleeding brakes on VAZ 2110, VAZ 2111, VAZ 2112
Welcome! Bleeding the brakes is a mandatory thing after replacing any unit in the hydraulic brake drive; by the way, this even applies to simply replacing the brake fluid (If it had to be completely drained), after which the brake system also needs to be bled, but few people know how to do this correctly, Therefore, especially for such people, we wrote a detailed article where we described everything down to the smallest detail, so, as they say, read and understand.
Note! In order to bleed the brakes, you will need to take with you: An assistant, since it will be much easier to bleed the brakes with him than alone, and you will also need to stock up on a small container (0.5 liter bottle, from some kind of lemonade) into which a little new brake fluid will be poured, but more on that a little later, and you will also need to take with you a hose of suitable length and diameter, but more on that later, in general, before immediately starting work and preparing the tools, first Read the article in full and only then prepare your things for work!
Summary:
When should you bleed your brakes? They require bleeding only if there is a depressurization somewhere in the brake system, and as we know from school, depressurization is a phenomenon when a tear occurs somewhere in the system, a breakdown that spoils the entire tightness of the system and in connection with this disrupts the operation of this system, for example, the tightness in the brake system may disappear if any brake hose is torn or after the fluid in the brake reservoir completely flows out of it and the reservoir remains open.
Note! By the way, it is not difficult to understand that the system has become depressurized, or in other words, air has gotten into it, firstly, the brakes in your car after air gets into the system will immediately begin to work worse, that is, the brake pedal travel will increase, but at the same time it will become easier to press than this happened earlier and the car will become much worse at braking, although this only depends on how depressurized your system is; if a lot of air gets into it, then the brakes can easily fail completely and, as they say, there will be no brakes at all!
Where is the regulator located?
The “sorcerer” can be found on a passenger car mainly in the rear of the body. It can be located either on the left or on the right on the bottom.
The regulator is connected to the rear axle or beam by means of a rod and a special torsion lever. It is this lever that acts on the piston inside the regulator. The incoming part of the brake force regulator is connected to the GTZ, and the output part is connected to the working brake cylinders of the rear mechanisms.
How to bleed the brakes, aka the braking system on a VAZ 2110-VAZ 2112?
Note! Before you get to work, remember one thing for yourself, in cars of the tenth family the brake system is built in such a way that the contours do not go along one horizontal line like on the classics, but diagonally, for some these words mean little because not everyone will understand them, let's explain all these points in detail. To begin with, let's move a little away from the cars of the tenth family and talk about the classics, as many already know, the classics are the very first family of cars that appeared at the plant, later there were nines, tens, etc. (Read the continuation in the “Important!” section at the very bottom of the article)
1) First, you will need to drive the car into the inspection hole and then open the hood and find the brake fluid reservoir there (shown with an arrow in the photo below), you open this reservoir by unscrewing the cap and then add it to the MAX mark new brake fluid.
Note! Do not under any circumstances add any other liquid, namely liquid from another manufacturer (Even if the composition is the same), and especially not underfill liquid of a different brand, because different additives are added to each liquid, and each manufacturer has their own, and therefore if you If you mix them, then the mixing will occur, thereby possibly ruining the brake system of your car, leading to corrosion, or the brakes will simply become ineffective! (If you don’t know what kind of fluid is in your reservoir, then replace the brake fluid; for information on how to replace it, see the article entitled: “Replacing brake fluid on a VAZ”)

Re: Without "sorcerer".
Having 6 years of experience driving a motorcycle, I can say that strongly braking rear wheels are bad! Especially at the beginning of the rain when suddenly your ass suddenly drops, and you catch the car along the highway at 120. A sorcerer is a useful thing. And a properly adjusted sorcerer is a pleasant thing. Of course, it’s easier to remove the “extra” part than to put it in order and adjust it. At AvtoVAZ, the engineers are not complete morons, and they won’t put any stupid crap into the car.

There is no point in explaining something to someone, people don’t understand it.
Why and when is pumping required?
We recommend that you watch the video about bleeding the brakes on a VAZ 2110 to clearly see the whole process from start to finish. The need for this kind of procedure is due to the fact that the system becomes airy; excess air does not allow the brakes to respond to the pedal being pressed at the right time. When driving at high speed, seconds matter, so the brakes must work one hundred percent.
Plus, there are a number of other reasons for which pumping is required:
- When pressed, the brake pedal of the VAZ 2110 sinks, it becomes like cotton wool;
- You have made adjustments to the braking system;
- A brake fluid leak was discovered and cracks formed in the supply hose;
- Old brake fluid is of poor quality and therefore needs to be replaced;
- The brake discs were replaced;
- The water level in the brake fluid has increased due to the hygroscopicity of the composition.
How does the mechanism work?
It should be noted that the brake force regulator is not installed on cars with ABS, although the “sorcerer” is the ancestor of this system. It also helps protect the wheels from locking during braking.
In passenger cars, the “sorcerer” has a fairly simple device. It consists of three elements - the body, pistons, and valves.
The device body is internally divided into two cavities. The first cavity of the regulator is connected to the master cylinder (MC). The second is connected to the rear brake mechanisms. When emergency braking is necessary, the front of the car will tilt. With the help of pistons and valves, due to this tilt, the access of the working fluid to the brake cylinder will be blocked.
Thus, the VAZ brake force regulator automatically controls and distributes forces on the wheels of the rear axle. The car does not skid in the event of an emergency press on the pedal.
Leveling up
So, we come to the main question - how to properly bleed the brakes on a VAZ 2110. But the important point here is whether you are going to do the work yourself, or call a friend for help. Depending on this, pumping is performed in a slightly different way. Let's talk about each of them.
Self-leveling
If you couldn’t find an assistant, you can easily handle the task yourself.
- Brake reservoir cap without sensors, regular black;
- Automotive nipple;
- Use a round file or a 14 mm drill.
- Make a hole in the lid, insert a nipple into it so that there are no gaps and the element fits tightly. This device replaces a ready-made aerator, which is sold in stores.
- Using the manufactured device, connect the valve of the spare tire or removed wheel with the valve of the reservoir.
- Jack up the car and remove all wheels.
- Unscrew the fitting intended for bleeding the brakes. The air will expel the brake fluid with air bubbles.
- If it is not possible to use a tire or you have a compressor, use it. Just make sure the pressure is no more than 1 atmosphere.
- Perform a similar sequence of procedures on each brake, following the sequence indicated above.
What happens if you drive without a regulator?
If the check shows that the “sorcerer” does not work, then the car owner has two options. The first and most correct is to purchase and install a new regulator. The second option is to remove the “sorcerer” from the system. Let's look at the dangers of operating a car without this device. Some owners even intentionally remove the regulator to reduce braking distance.
However, experts do not recommend removing the mechanism - this path is wrong. Without an adjuster, both the front and rear brakes will apply at the same time. The risk of a possible accident increases - the driver moving behind may not have time to react correctly to the braking process.
The presence of a working brake force regulator on the 2114 VAZ is very important. It is prohibited to remove it from the system - this is indicated in the traffic regulations. If the mechanism is not working properly, you can try to adjust it.
"LADA KALINA"
We set the regulator so that the rear is slightly late in locking the wheels. With this setting and partial load, the car needed only 27 m to stop. Fully loaded - 29.5 m. There are slight difficulties in preventing the front wheels from skidding. We reduce the gap in the regulator to zero - the half-empty Kalina stops after 31.8 m. The braking distance increases by 4.8 m, accompanied by a sharp blocking of the front wheels. The loaded one slows down after 35.2 m, the deterioration is even greater - 5.7 m! The pedal effort is increased and the brakes become noticeably hot.
Replacement
Replacing the sorcerer with a VAZ-2109 is performed as follows. You will need a 13 mm wrench, a powerful screwdriver, and a special wrench for unscrewing the brake pipes. Before work, you need to clean the part from rust, pour it with WD-40 or a similar liquid and wait.
You need to start by unscrewing the bolt that secures the bracket to the spring. Then unscrew the brake pipes. Having unscrewed the fittings, unscrew the bolts securing the part to the body and the sorcerer can be removed.
Useful tips
In addition to the sorcerer, the braking efficiency of the rear axle is influenced by:
- Drum wear;
- Condition and quality of the pads;
- Adjusting the handbrake cable;
- Faulty brake hoses.
Therefore, it is necessary to check all elements.
On the Internet there are tips for improving the brake system of VAZs: replacing the sorcerer with a simple tee, selecting the thickness of the sealing washers in the regulator, converting from a diagonal system to a dual-circuit front-rear axle.
But according to the Traffic Rules, it is prohibited to make any design changes to vehicle components on which safety directly depends. The best option is qualified technical service, timely identification and elimination of faults.
Examination
The operation of the VAZ -2109, 2110 and other AvtoVAZ models is checked on the move, in closed areas. To do this, accelerate the car to a speed of 40 km/h and sharply press the brake. The rear wheels should lock 1/2 second later than the front wheels.
The wheels are monitored by an assistant located outside the car. If wheel locking occurs noticeably later or does not occur at all, and also if the rear axle is locked simultaneously with the front, the sorcerer adjustment procedure is repeated.
To increase the response time of the rear brakes, the gap between the adjuster and the bracket is increased; to shorten it, it is reduced accordingly.
