A little history
Niva Legends has come a long way in terms of naming. The first Niva (VAZ 2121) appeared back in 1977. After which it was produced under this name until 2006, after which the model received the name Lada 4x4.
However, people continued to call the car Niva, despite the fact that the production of new cars called Niva 2 (VAZ 2123), which are better known as Chevrolet Niva, was launched. Later, it was decided to produce these cars only under the name Niva and under the domestic brand.
As a result, Chevrolet turned into Lada Niva Travel, and Lada 4x4 into Niva Legend. It’s hard to say that someone buys a Niva Legend for the sake of appearance, to stand out on the road; this car has a completely different orientation and completely different strengths.

Each car paint manufacturer has its own numbering. In particular, for the production of the Chevrolet Niva, the GM concern uses paints from the world-famous concern MOTIP DUPLI GROUP (Holland-Germany). The Motip concern, which produces paints for painting the Chevrolet Niva, thanks to its flexible marketing and active innovation policy, is a recognized world leader in the production and sale of the widest range of aerosol paints and varnishes for automotive, household and decorative purposes, as well as high-quality auto cosmetics and technical aerosols .
The Motip Dupli Group concern was formed in 1998 as a result of a merger (Holland), Vogelsang Holding (Germany-Switzerland) and the company producing putties and primers Weber&Wirth.
Of course, I managed to find out all this in the process of searching for the required paint for my beloved Chevy Nivika, which I am sharing here.

Historical perspective

- Let us remember that the multifunctional all-terrain vehicle was first presented back in 1977. Better known as the Vaz Niva, the SUV was capable of driving on difficult roads. Fans of long-distance travel to hard-to-reach places were simply delighted. By right, 2121 was the best domestically produced car at that time.
Niva with a good and durable body
In addition to the technical capabilities described above, 2121 was also equipped with a transfer case with a reduction series. The dynamics of the car were excellent, and the comfort was quite consistent with the tastes of the Soviet people. The main thing is that 2121 could be used for periodic trips in the city and beyond.
- The all-terrain vehicle underwent its first modernization in 1993. It was already 21213, also known as Vaz Taiga. Restyling affected more internal changes. They installed a new dashboard, seats and changed the trim. Otherwise, 21213 was no different in appearance from its predecessor. But innovations were introduced into the engine system. BSZ appears, a Solex carburetor and a new shape of the combustion chamber appear. This has now allowed Niva owners to significantly save on fuel consumption.
- The VAZ 21214 was produced by the Tolyatti Automobile Plant entirely for the European market, although today the model is easy to buy on the used market in Russia. Advantages of the new modification: modern injection system, high-quality interior trim.
In principle, 21214 is the same VAZ 21213 that has received modernization. Subsequently, the car is renamed Lada 4x4, according to the AvtoVAZ joint venture.
- The export version with a power plant from Peugeot was produced at the end of the last millennium. VAZ 21215 is the name of the new modification, produced in small batches for export. The body is a sight to behold, the attachment parts have been improved - spoilers, durable and beautiful bumpers, linings and alloy wheels are provided.
- Another export version - VAZ 21217, was produced with a different engine - 1.3 liter 21011.
- In 1993-1994 a transitional modification was also produced with the same body and suspension as the 2121. It was 21219 with a 1.7-liter power plant and transmission from 21213.
- Since 2009, Lada 4x4 or a modernized version 21214 has been produced. After restyling, the optics and other lighting equipment changed, the interior and transmission were modified. It was said above that the new Lada 4x4 or VAZ 2131 received a lot from the Niva Chevrolet.
