We tested ten sets of front pads for the Lada Kalina: danger is nearby!


Hi all! This time I want to share my feelings from replacing the pads on a Lada Sport.

The old pads, green Ferodo, began to slow down worse every day. Not only do they not brake when hot when new, but they also stopped braking when cold. If you warmed them up a little, they at least somehow began to slow down, but at the same time they began to buzz like hell. The wear of the pads was no more than 50 percent.

In search of a replacement, I looked at more expensive options, such as the Hankook Frixa S1, TRW GDB458 (from fiata, with a larger area) and EBC. But we didn’t have such pads in stock anywhere, and the price tag, along with the dollar exchange rate, skyrocketed.

In search of an affordable alternative, I came across laudatory reviews about the Lada Sport pads, also known as TIIR 295, these pads are installed on new Kalinas and Grants on the assembly line.

What’s remarkable is that I didn’t come across any negative reviews. Naturally, after reading positive reviews about these pads, I decided to try my luck and find them here. I searched slowly, but persistently; the search took three weeks. I visited several dozen stores. The main hope was in the Lada Detail stores, we have three of them in our city, these stores operate under the Lada Image franchise and they should have parts that are put on the assembly line, but, alas. In two of these stores they said that the pads are not in demand and that’s why they don’t carry them, while they persistently pushed the fucking Ferodos. The third store was interested and even promised to bring it in a week, but I didn’t wait.

As a result, the desired box was found in the Avtoross store. The price tag is pleasing, only 350 rubles. Last year I bought the same Ferodo for 370.

The working area of ​​the friction lining of TIIR is slightly larger than that of Ferodo.

When installing the pads, I had regular standard brake discs without serrations, and with such brake discs, the pads served very well. Definition of counterfeit

Counterfeits are of significantly worse quality than the original TIIR. Therefore they should be avoided. To do this, there are a number of criteria that help determine branded products.

First of all, you need to inspect the box. It must not have printing defects. A sticker is used to prevent the contents of the package from being replaced. If it is torn, then it is advisable to refuse the purchase, since there is a high risk of purchasing a counterfeit.

The TIIR friction material does not leave marks on your fingers if you run over it. Therefore, if your hands get dirty from the pad, you should not purchase such a consumable.

The TIIR company is constantly improving the quality of its products, but a lot of defects can still be found on the original pads. Therefore, flaws in painting and inscriptions, heterogeneity of the friction material, violation of the flatness or geometry of the pad cannot be a 100% guarantee of a counterfeit product. The Yaroslavl plant also produces such consumables, since the defect rate is quite high.

Review of TIIR pads

One of the best branded materials is TIIR-221. In 2009, consumables were included in the “100 best goods of Russia”. For this product a gold medal was awarded. The consumables are gentle on brake discs and have good wear resistance. When used on minibus taxis, the service life of the pads is 35-40 thousand km.

Consumables made from TIIR-240 have even better characteristics. With ventilated discs, they will not need to be replaced within 100-120 thousand km. As standard, such products last 50-70 thousand km.

Since 2000, TIIR-260 brake linings have been supplied to the retail network for VAZ and GAZ cars. They replaced the first non-asbestos domestic friction material TIIR-206.


TIIR-260

TIIR 295 has been produced for passenger cars and light trucks since 2010. The main features of the friction material are:

  • compressibility comparable to the best foreign brands;
  • stable braking throughout the entire operating temperature range;
  • restoration of original properties after overheating;
  • sufficient wear resistance;
  • surface treatment with thermal shock, which allows you to reach the nominal braking intensity without preliminary grinding;
  • low risk of extraneous sounds.

Friction material TIIR-295 “Elite” is also produced. It is made mainly from imported raw materials. This allows us to get closer in quality and performance characteristics to leading manufacturers of brake pads.


TIIR-295 "Elite"

At the request of the AvtoVAZ-Renault-Nissan alliance, the friction composite TIIR 299 was developed. It passed a number of tests:

  • road;
  • polygon using AK-Master, Block-Wear, MS, HFT methods;
  • bench;
  • testing at the foreign testing site IDIADA.

As a result, it was possible to create a friction material that is not inferior to the foreign analogue Fer-196. The lining does not contain copper or its alloys, which allows it to meet the most stringent criteria of European standards.

Comparison of TIIR brake pads with original ones

TIIR pads are supplied to all domestic factories for assembling cars that come off the assembly line. Therefore, when purchasing TIIR for, for example, a VAZ or GAZ, the car owner will not feel the difference with his own consumables. The price will be lower.

Installing TIIR brake pads instead of originals on foreign cars can lead to disappointing consequences. Insufficient braking intensity, extraneous sounds and complete brake failure can await the car owner when leaving his original consumables.

Workmanship

During testing, the pads perform no worse than foreign famous brands. Wear, braking intensity and stability of the friction coefficient during the heating process are in no way inferior to consumables, for example, TRW.

TIIR cannot boast of the same success as in tests in real operation. The pads wear out quickly, the surface often becomes glassy, ​​but the main problem is the peeling of the friction material. A poor adhesive composition negates all the advantages of the TIIR consumable. A broken block is not able to effectively stop the car, so reviews from car owners recommend avoiding TIIR products if possible.

Which pads are better to put on a VAZ?

Today there are a large number of companies on the market that sell linings for classic or modern VAZ cars. The following are the 10 best companies, according to consumer reviews and sales statistics.

10th place: AvtoVAZ

The ranking opens with a domestic manufacturer supplying serial models of pads to the market.
The brand's product range includes a full range of modifications for each car. The main advantage of the products is 100% compatibility and “tailored” to the characteristics of each machine separately. Typically, pads are used in everyday use where there is no need for increased performance or durability. The products are not suitable for fans of high-speed driving - the standard material does not like overheating, which can cause brake failure.

Users install such brake pads on the VAZ 2107 and other classic-type models.

Advantages:

  • full compatibility with car models;
  • sufficient reliability;
  • moderate cost;
  • durable base;
  • available in every store.

Minuses:

On the one hand, users praise the products, saying that the pads wear out for a long time and hold critical loads well. Others insist on a large number of shortcomings, pointing out strong creaking, lack of effective braking even after prolonged grinding.

I am pleased with the minimum price of the products. If you have a limited budget, you can buy brand pads and play the lottery.

Advantages:

  • minimum price;
  • wide use;
  • wide selection of models.

Flaws:

  • questionable quality;
  • there is a high probability of buying a defect.

8th place: TRUCKMAN

The Russian company occupies the next position in the ranking due to sufficient quality and moderate cost.
The brand has existed for more than 20 years and supplies products to 30 countries. The company's product range includes brake pads for the VAZ 2109 and other models of the automaker. A competent approach to the arrangement of materials and technical processes during manufacturing eliminates crumbling of the linings due to overheating or shock loads. This provides the necessary durability and practicality of use.

On the other hand, increased rigidity of the composition negatively affects the comfort of use. The pads make a lot of noise and are not effective enough when exposed to water or snow, which forces motorists to be careful when driving in bad weather.

7th place: QUATRO FRENNI

In seventh place is an Italian manufacturer with factories in Russia.
Despite the location of the production lines, the quality of the products is controlled by foreign specialists, which ensures a sufficient level of quality. The company's arsenal includes Vesta and XRay brake pads, as well as for other modern car models. Thanks to a wide range of organic mixtures and pad sizes, there is a choice to suit the individual needs of the user. Cheap modifications are perfect for production cars operated in standard mode without heavy loads. For modernized cars, semi-metallic linings with an increased margin of strength and durability are suitable.

Among the disadvantages, buyers highlight the fakes they come across, which greatly damages the brand’s reputation.

Advantages:

6th place: HERZOG

A subsidiary of ATS.
The history of the brand goes back more than 100 years of constant modernization of production and the introduction of advanced technologies into production. In Europe, the company has a research center and testing grounds, which in total allowed it to enter the assembly lines of some automakers. In Russia, the quality of the brand is well known. Brake pads can last 1.5-2 times longer than standard brake pads on Lada Largus or classic modifications. Among the disadvantages, additionally, poor-quality pre-treatment stands out, which provokes a strong squeak when grinding in the linings. Advantages:

2nd place: ROSDOT

The company takes second place due to the fact that it makes good Vesta and XRay brake pads at a low cost.

This feature guarantees sufficient ergonomics and comfort when operating the vehicle. Separately, we can highlight the company’s assortment. The leader of the rating represents high-quality domestically produced products.
This became possible thanks to close work with German and American partners. STS brake pads are famous for their quality and reasonable price tags. On average, a set of linings lasts up to 50,000 kilometers and is highly responsive to driver commands. Here you can choose brake pads for VAZ of any model and for some foreign cars. Advantages:

  • impressive reliability;
  • adequate price tag.

Flaws:

  • not detected when used correctly.
