For the average motorist, an injection engine is like the Mariana Trench. Everyone knows perfectly well that there is something there, but only great scientists know what exactly and at what depth. In our case, they are large specialists with equipment for computer diagnostics. In a gasoline engine, stuffed with sensors, each of them can in one way or another affect performance, fuel consumption and dynamics. In a word, if something goes wrong, there’s no point in meddling with electronics with a screwdriver. We will have to deal with one of the many sensors today, namely the absolute pressure sensor.
Advantages and disadvantages of DBP/DTV and DMRV
It is necessary to abandon the (mass air flow sensor) in favor of the DBP (absolute pressure sensor) and DTV (air temperature sensor) for several reasons. For example, in the case of engine tuning (4-throttle intake, where the use of a mass air flow sensor is simply physically impossible) or for reliability and design savings. Let's look at this modification of the car in more detail.
Mass air flow sensor | DBP and DTV
Price | from 3,000 rubles | 900 + 700 rubles |
Gas pedal response | Depends on the firmware (see survey at the end of the article)
Life time | Limited | For the entire service life of the vehicle |
Toxicity standards | Euro 4.5 | Euro 3 with difficulty |
The delay can be seen in the video:
Electronic engine control unit (ECU)
The electronic engine control unit is the brain center of the entire car. All sensors installed in the car are connected specifically to this unit. All necessary calculations and consequences are calculated in the ECU. The engine control unit corrects all its operation. Located at the bottom of the VAZ 2114 dashboard at the feet of the front passenger.
Symptoms of ECU malfunction:
Signs of an ECU malfunction include all of the following signs of sensor malfunctions. After all, each sensor transmits readings to the ECU, and it, in turn, must process them, but it happens that for some reason these processes may not be processed in the ECU. In case of such problems, the ECU must be repaired, the tracks must be soldered, or failed radio components must be replaced.
Needed for replacement
Requirements for the ECU (electronic engine control unit):
- ─ January 5.1 2112-1411020-41;
- ─ January 5.1 2111-1411020-61.
A good option is January 7.2. It has free firmware J7ESA, on which you can easily organize DBP. January-5 2111-71,2112-71 and ECUs from BOSCH cannot work with DBP. In this case, it is recommended to replace the ECU (price from 3,000 rubles).
Absolute pressure sensor (DBP or MAP sensor):
- ─ Most often this is a sensor from Gazelle (manufactured in Kaluga), catalog number 45.3829 or 745.3829;
- ─ VW AG 03D906 051 Siemens SME 5WK96930-R (presence of a built-in intake air temperature sensor).
Air temperature sensor (ATS):
- ─ from Niva, catalog number 21214-1413110;
- ─ from Daewoo Nexia 25037223;
- ─ DTOZH VAZ (turbine needs modification).
You will also need:
- ─ Speed sensor connector (for DBP);
- ─ Connector for coolant temperature sensor (for DTV);
- ─ Vacuum hose and tee;
- ─ Wire about 2.5 meters;
- ─ Lyra type terminals.
Symptoms of sensor failure
The not too intricate design of the sensor in new cars can be supplemented with a layer of special gel, which serves as a kind of protection for the sensitive element, which somewhat extends its service life. However, the sensor may fail, as indicated by the following symptoms:
- Gasoline consumption is increasing. This may be due to the fact that the sensor does not work at all or produces incorrect data from the ECU, which assumes that the pressure in the manifold is stable and continues to supply fuel in larger quantities than is actually necessary.
- The dynamics disappear against the backdrop of increasing consumption, and if acceleration does not improve after the engine has fully warmed up, most likely you need to go for diagnostics.
- Due to the constant overflow of gasoline in the throttle valve area, a persistent fuel smell may persist.
- Floating or uncontrolled idle speed.
- Dips in transition modes, when starting from a standstill, changing gears and changing the throttle.
Installation of DBP and DTV on a VAZ
DBP is afraid of vibrations, so we fix it on the engine shield. We install it with the connector down to eliminate the possibility of condensation and moisture accumulating in it. We connect the DBP to the fuel pressure regulator tube through a tee, or to the receiver.
DTV can be attached to:
- ─ in the air filter housing;
- ─ in the pipe after the air filter housing;
- ─ into the mass air flow sensor housing.
Stories from our readers
“Fucking basin. "
Hi all! My name is Mikhail, now I’ll tell you a story about how I managed to exchange my two-wheeler for a 2010 Camry. It all started with the fact that I began to be wildly irritated by the breakdowns of the two-wheeler, it seemed like nothing serious was broken, but damn it, there were so many little things that really started to irritate me. This is where the idea arose that it was time to change the car to a foreign car. The choice fell on the melting Camry of the tenth years.
Yes, I had matured morally, but financially I just couldn’t handle it. I’ll say right away that I am against loans and taking a car, especially not a new one, on credit is unreasonable. My salary is 24k a month, so collecting 600-700 thousand is almost impossible for me. I started looking for different ways to make money on the Internet. You can’t imagine how many scams there are, what I haven’t tried: sports betting, network marketing, and even the volcano casino, where I successfully lost about 10 thousand ((The only direction in which it seemed to me that I could make money was currency trading on the stock exchange, they call it Forex. But when I started delving into it, I realized that it was very difficult for me. I continued to dig further and came across binary options. The essence is the same as in Forex, but it’s much easier to understand. I started reading forums, studying trading strategies. I tried it on a demo account, then opened a real account. To be honest, I didn’t manage to start earning money right away, until I understood all the mechanics of options, I lost about 3,000 rubles, but as it turned out, it was a precious experience. Now I earn 5-7 thousand rubles a day. I managed to get the car buy after half a year, but in my opinion this is a good result, and it’s not about the car, my life has changed, I naturally quit my job, I have more free time for myself and my family. You’ll laugh, but I work directly on the phone)) If If you want to change your life like me, then here’s what I advise you to do right now: 1. Register on the site 2. Practice on a Demo account (it’s free). 3. As soon as you get something on the Demo account, top up your REAL ACCOUNT and go to REAL MONEY! I also advise you to download the application to your phone, it’s much more convenient to work from your phone. Download here.

Firmware for DBP and DTV
After replacing the mass air flow sensor with DBP and DTV it is necessary, because For new sensors, different calibrations must be used. Example firmware for ECU Y5.1 without mass air flow sensor: J5LS (J5 Light Sport), J5SPT0005 (J7SPT0005). How to configure firmware for video:
Result : we get high reliability, but an increased delay when pressing the gas pedal. On a naturally aspirated engine, a system with a mass air flow sensor will be more preferable, since it has greater measurement accuracy, and the use of air pressure sensor and air flow sensor on a production engine is impractical. What do you think, is it worth switching from mass air flow sensor to air pressure sensor and air flow sensor on a stock engine without tuning?
By the way, do you know how complex it is and what it gives to VAZ?
Connection diagram for the adapter cable in a convenient form.
To connect to the receiver, I used a fitting and a tube that goes to the DBP, a regular tube for supplying water to windshield washers. Ideally, it should not be long.
At this particular point in time, AvtoVAZ has switched to a system without a mass air flow sensor and uses a pressure and air temperature sensor on engines 21127 and later. A very convenient solution that combines both necessary sensors in one housing, i.e. DBP and DTV; you only need to drill two holes in the receiver, one for mounting the sensor and one for measuring pressure and temperature in the receiver. Checking with a multimeter
Of the entire list of sensors in a car, the DMRV is the most expensive. Its cost in auto parts stores reaches 3000-4000 rubles. There is also a possibility of purchasing a counterfeit or inappropriate spare part model. Before the replacement procedure, you should make sure that the element gives the correct readings on the multimeter. A step-by-step check of the sensor using a multimeter looks like this:
- To begin, set the multimeter to DC measurement mode (readings up to 20 V);
- Use a red probe to connect to contact number 5, and connect a black probe to the third contact;
- Without starting the engine, turn the ignition key to the last position.
For a convenient interpretation of the readings from the multimeter, we will provide a complete table of voltage showing the wear of the part.
This element is quite sensitive to dirt, oil and other debris. To prevent its early failure, you should change the air filter more often and monitor the wear of the engine piston group. When there is a lot of wear, oil begins to seep into the intake system, which makes it impossible to take accurate readings of the incoming air.
You can change the mass air flow sensor yourself in a matter of minutes, so there is no need to rush and purchase a new part. Often the problem with floating speed and periodic engine shutdown at idle lies in other malfunctions. Make sure the wiring is intact, the readings are correct, and only then proceed to replacing the element. Below we present the air volume indicators that correspond to the normal operation of the 2114 engine.
Error P0113 - Intake Air Temperature Sensor High: What is it and How to Fix It
The engine of any modern car is equipped with several systems that keep the functioning of the power unit under control. Information about a malfunction of a unit or an individual component comes through sensors to the on-board control unit, where it is stored as errors under various code numbers. One of them is p0113 - a fairly common problem.
An alarm, one of the reasons for which is error P0113, is displayed on the dashboard
Main set of sensors for 16-valve VAZ-2112 engines
The ECU must control many parameters at once. The most important information will be the position of the crankshaft. You can turn off all sensors except the DPKV, and this will not lead to the engine stopping.
Sensors connected to the ECU
Let's list all the elements one by one:
- 15 – DTOZH. A resistor screwed into the thermostat housing. The temperature of the antifreeze is determined;
- 17 – DPRV, also known as DF (phase sensor). The operating principle is the Hall effect. The position of the camshaft is controlled. Check it out here.;
- 20 – TPS. Resistor fixed to the throttle assembly 19. The angle of deflection of the throttle valve is measured;
- 21 – Mass air flow sensor. Sensor connected to the filter housing. Controls air flow; the main signs of its malfunction are discussed here;
- 22 – IAC. Not a sensor, but a regulator (electromagnet). Used in idle mode. About its testing and diagnostics here. About replacing the IAC here.;
- 24 – lambda probe or oxygen sensor (see above);
- 25 – speed sensor. Fixed in the gearbox slot. Operating principle – Hall effect;
- 26 – DPKV. Electromagnetic sensor. The position of the crankshaft is controlled;
- 27 – DD (knock sensor). A piezoelectric element mounted on the outer wall of the cylinder block.
Let's take a look at how all the elements look in real life. Shown are pictures of VAZ-2112 sensors (16-valve internal combustion engine).
Each element will be easy to find under the hood
Everything said above is true for two engines at once - for units 21124 and 21120 (1.6 and 1.5 l).
You cannot unscrew the DTOZH sensor without draining the coolant. And to disconnect the sensor means to disconnect the connector, but not to dismantle the sensor itself.

Let's look at another picture.
Reasons for error P0113
In diagnostic devices, this “trouble” is called Intake Air Temperature Sensor High. The described error p0113 appears in only four cases, which is due to the simplicity of the sensor design:
- malfunction of the thermistor itself;
- a violation in the sensor’s power supply circuit—one of the wires is shorted or broken;
- there is no electrical contact in the connecting block;
- a layer of dirt and (or) oil stains settling on the sensor, reducing the sensitivity of the thermistor.
The “error 113” indication can appear on any modern car, both Russian and foreign made. It could be Mercedes with Audi or VAZ 2112, 2114, GAZ, UAZ.
An intake air temperature sensor is installed on any modern engine. Sometimes the reason is quite banal. Error 0113 on a VAZ 2114 or VAZ 2115, 2110, 2111, 2107-2109 (injector) sometimes appears after the car has been parked for a long time without use, when the battery is too, but not completely, discharged. Charging it restores the functionality of the machine's systems, including the air temperature sensor.
Articles
For oxygen sensors, the designation 21120-3850010 was first used. Then an article appeared with the numbers 1118 (see photo). It appears to be a new type of sensor. It will be easier to use BOSCH articles.
Exhaust system of VAZ-21120 engine
We list the article numbers of the remaining sensors:
- Mass air flow sensor (21124 or 21120): 21083-1130010-01, -10, -20;

- Coolant temperature gauge sensor: 2101-3808600, -02, 2106-3828010.
The last three sensors are not connected to the ECU. However, a rough road sensor (2123-1413130) can be connected. It affects the operation of the engine, although it is attached to the body.
Engines with ECU January 4.1 do not have oxygen sensors.
In general, on VAZ-2112 hatchbacks, sensors may be different from those indicated in the list. But then we are talking about an 8-valve engine. And everything that we indicated applies to 16 valves, here is a diagram of this engine.
