During key learning, the following happens:

  1. If the anti-theft function has not been activated, it will be activated.
  2. The system changes the password, which is chosen randomly.
  3. This password is written in the key. All previously installed keys from the remote control are erased from the system memory.
  4. All newly installed keys with codes are stored in memory.

This procedure is recommended for use in the following cases:

  1. When replacing a controller or in a new car.
  2. Erasing old keys and replacing them with new ones.
  3. Changing passwords when the owner suspects that the codes could have been read by strangers.
  4. When replacing the immobilizer.

Training can only occur on new keys or those that were previously also trained using a special key. You cannot learn the key on another car. Experts recommend using the training key only in extreme cases and not using it for driving every day. It must also be stored separately. Before training begins, the tank must be hot enough to prevent the buzzer system from tripping.

It consists of the following actions:

  1. Close the car doors.
  2. Turn on the ignition with the training key and hold it there for at least 6-7 seconds.

How to train a key? To train the key in LADA Kalina you will need to follow eight steps.

  1. So, programming the key begins with closing the doors and activating the ignition. We carry out this manipulation only using a training key. Having started the engine, we perform a delay for 6 seconds.
  2. Now we turn off the LADA Kalina engine. At this moment, the tidy control indicator is switched to flashing mode. This action continues until the end of the learning process. When the indicator stops blinking for unknown reasons, this indicates the presence of an incorrectly performed manipulation at some stage. If this situation occurs, then repeat the ignition switch with a delay.
  3. The third stage of action is also characterized by the blinking of the indicated indicator. This happens for 6 seconds. At this time, you will need to re-insert the key into the lock and activate the ignition. When all manipulations are performed correctly, three sound signals will start coming from the buzzer.
  4. With the beginning of the 4th stage, you will need to do a little holding. Upon completion of repeated sound signals, insert the learning key and repeat the procedure. If we fail to complete this process, we conclude that an error was made during the manipulations. One might suspect that this chip key has previously been subjected to a similar procedure.
  5. The fifth stage involves turning off the ignition. The operation regarding the second element will need to be repeated about 3 times.
  6. In the next step, the control symbol starts flashing again. Here you will need to remove the trained key, after which we insert the training remote control. Correctly performed manipulations will be confirmed by a three-time buzzer.
  7. At the penultimate stage, we wait for a couple of signals to sound.
  8. We complete the action by turning off the ignition. Next, we wait for a single buzzer signal. Now you know how to train a key.

Features of standard central locking

AvtoVAZ even installs a central locking system with a remote control from the factory even on the most budget versions of Kalina. However, such a system is clearly not enough to effectively protect a car from theft. The Lada Kalina central locking system is also controlled from the interior. On the driver's door next to the power window control unit there is a central locking button. The ignition key simultaneously functions as a remote control. On its plastic part there are three buttons, the purpose of which is as follows:

  1. Unlocking. One press – the actuator should click and the driver’s door will open, two presses – the rest.
  2. Closing. To close all doors at the same time, just press the button once.
  3. Opening the trunk. Not available on all trim levels, as a trunk lock actuator is required. You can also install the electric drive yourself.

Kalina also provides another important function - rear door locking, as it is also called - child protection. To activate it, you need to use the key to turn the red chip to the right near the lock from the outside. After this, opening the rear doors from the passenger compartment is not possible, so that children cannot accidentally fall out while driving.

The central locking system does not have anti-theft functions; there are no shock sensors. All that the central lock can do is signal an unauthorized opening.

Basic central locking malfunctions and methods for eliminating them

There are times when, after pressing the door unlock button, you may encounter a lack of response to the command. The lock cannot be removed and the central lock does not respond to button presses on the remote control. Conclusion - Kalina's central locking does not work.

You can gain access to the interior using a key, but in this case the sound alarm is not deactivated, and everyone will know when the car is opened. If the system does not respond to commands from the remote control, there may not be many problems: either the batteries in the remote control are low and need to be replaced, or synchronization is lost. In this case, it is not repair that is required, but restoration of the system's functionality.

DIY mechanism repair

If the mechanism does not work, it must be removed. To do this, you need an open-end wrench set to “13”.

The removal procedure consists of the following steps:

  1. First, remove the negative terminal from the battery.
  2. Then we dismantle the air filter.
  3. Next, disconnect the traction relay control wire.
  4. Now you need to disconnect the power cable. To do this, move away the protective rubber cap, under which there is a positive wire.
  5. Then unscrew the nut that secures the power cable.
  6. Disconnect this wire, as well as the wire located nearby.
  7. Next, unscrew the nuts with a “13” wrench that secure the starter. Two are located on top, and the third can be felt with your hand below.
  8. After unscrewing all the nuts, you can remove the device from the studs.

Further actions depend on the condition of the starter. It is either repaired or replaced. Repairs will require disassembling the device. If a replacement is needed, a new part is purchased. Installation is in the reverse order.

Restoring synchronization

Synchronization may be lost if there is a short-term (from 6 seconds) lack of power to the microcircuit in the key fob. In this case, desynchronization may actually occur, i.e. the connection between the remote control and the control unit of the central locking Lada Kalina is lost. According to the operating manual, if such situations arise, it is necessary to register the key fob again, entering data about it into the memory of the central locking system. You should immediately take into account that the procedure is far from the simplest and most understandable, and you also need a special training key. You can try to restore synchronization as follows:

  1. Turn the ignition switch with the key that requires synchronization.
  2. Wait 6 seconds.
  3. After the immobilizer lamp stops flashing, the ignition can be turned off.

What problems does the Kalina ignition switch have?

The ignition switch on the Lada Kalina is a contact group with a cylinder that turns only when the appropriate key is used. When you turn the key, the contact group turns, which closes certain circuits - first the ignition is turned on, then the starter. Simultaneously with turning the key, the steering shaft locking pin moves away.

This mechanism is characterized by the following malfunctions:

  • the ignition turns on, but the starter does not turn on;
  • the starter does not turn on the first time;
  • nothing happens when you turn the key;
  • the lock does not turn;
  • the key is stuck in the ignition.

As a rule, if the starter or ignition fails, the contact group may be to blame. The contacts oxidize and the circuit stops working.

However, the ignition switch is far from the only reason for these phenomena. There may also be problems with the immobilizer. Therefore, it is important to make the correct diagnosis.

Mechanical problems, such as when the key gets stuck in the lock, occur much less frequently, but they are the ones that cause the most panic among car owners.

In any case, if the ignition switch malfunctions, it must be replaced immediately.

Conversion into a single door unlocking impulse

The controller of the central locking control unit opens the doors in two stages: one press of the button unlocks the driver’s door, two presses – all others. But you can make it so that everything unlocks after one press. This is very easy to do:

  1. Turn on the ignition.
  2. Press the unlock and close buttons at the same time and hold for at least five seconds.
  3. After the beep, the key can be released.

When the buzzer sounds once, the system notifies you of the transition to a new mode. Returning everything to the way it was before is just as easy. To do this, repeat the above procedure and wait for the double buzzer to confirm the transition to the default settings.

Replacing the battery in the key fob

A sign of a low key fob battery will be the LED flashing quickly when you press any button. The central locking does not respond to commands. It is worth noting that a discharged battery will not affect the ability to start the engine. Since the immobilizer can easily read the code written on the chip, synchronization will not be lost.

Disassembling the key fob is very simple; just unscrew one screw on the body and, using any available tool, remove the cover on which the buttons are located. Next, the printed circuit board is removed, under which the battery is located. You need to determine its type by reading the letter and number combination. When replacing, be sure to take into account those same 6 seconds, i.e. have time to install a new battery during this time, otherwise it will be necessary to restore synchronization.

Summarizing

It is advisable that the starter spins the engine crankshaft during an attempt to start it for no more than 10 seconds, then the device must be given a minute pause. Failure to comply with this rule will, at best, lead to a discharge of the power source, and at worst, it will completely disable the starter. Only replacing it can save the situation, since not every auto electrician will undertake the task of rewinding burnt windings, since it is not always possible to perform this procedure efficiently. In addition, the cost of this service is comparable to the cost of a new element.

If you are confident that the key fob is working, but the central locking does not work or does not work correctly, then you can try the following:

  1. Replace the central locking fuse Kalina F22, which protects the controller's power circuit (located in the mounting block).
  2. The power supply circuit to the actuator of one of the doors may be broken. In this case, you need to open it 90° and find a broken contact or connector.

The central locking is controlled by an electronic unit, from which wires go to the door actuators. A wire also goes from the block to the driver's door microphone, which is located inside the actuator. When connecting, installing or repairing the central locking system after dismantling the left door trim, you need to find the cable from the drive to the 7-pin connector.

Depending on the configuration (“Norma”, “Standard”, “Lux”) under the casing you can see:

  1. Six wires suitable for the connector (drive and two microphones).
  2. Unconnected wires from the drive.
  3. Lack of wires that should be in the connector on pins 4/6.

If there is an alarm, then wires 2/7 must be connected to the central locking unit. If the package does not include connecting all the actuators, then you need to do this yourself by connecting the missing ones to the control unit. To do this, you can use a two-wire cable that runs from the door to the central locking control unit. The electrical circuit of one or another modification of Kalina will help with the work.

Causes and solutions

Before taking steps to troubleshoot the problem, you need to figure out why the alarm on Kalina is not working. There may be several reasons for this:

  1. Poor contact in the key.
  2. Breakage of the electronic printed circuit board and the appearance of small cracks.
  3. Lack of normal contact connection in the radio module.
  4. Moisture getting into the engine compartment sensor.
  5. Damage to the central lock.
  6. The battery is low, which is why the Kalina alarm key fob does not work.
  7. Lack of communication between the control unit and the key.
  8. Wetting of the internal parts of the unit.
  9. Power supply interrupted or fuse damaged.

If the standard alarm system on Kalina stops working, check the condition of the key. Remember if you haven’t washed the remote control or maybe it got wet. Take it apart and examine the quality of the contacts. If you suspect they are dirty, clean them or change the device. During assembly, be careful not to overtighten the main screw to avoid damage.

Check the solder quality on the PCB

Open the radio module and inspect the quality of the soldering. If there are problems, it is necessary to strengthen it or change the product to start the engine. For replacement, you can contact specialists.

Train Keychain

There are situations when the alarm system on Kalina does not work due to a malfunction of the key fob. In this case, try retraining the new device. Take the following steps:

  1. Close the doors and turn on the ignition with the learning key, then wait 6 seconds.
  2. Turn off the power and the indicator light will flash quickly.
  3. Insert the working key into the lock within 6 seconds. In this case, the buzzer should beep three times.
  4. Wait about 6 more seconds with the ignition on until two new beeps are heard.
  5. Turn off the power.
  6. While the lamp is flashing, take out the working key, install the training key and turn on the ignition. If everything is done correctly, there should be three signals.
  7. Without turning off the power, wait for two beeps.
  8. Turn off the ignition, but do not take out the training master key. After 6 seconds, you can hear one signal and the lamp blinking at double frequency.
  9. No later than 6 seconds later, turn on the ignition with the training key.
  10. Wait 2-3 seconds and turn off the ignition.
  11. After five seconds there should be three beeps. The light should stop flashing.
  12. Do not turn on the ignition for about 10 seconds.

Dry the sensor or block

It happens when the standard alarm system in a Lada Kalina does not work due to the wetness of the sensor in the engine compartment or the unit. In the case of a sensor, the device must be changed or dried. The control unit must be removed and dried, after which the system works correctly.

Check your contacts

Another situation when the standard Kalina alarm does not work on 1 or 2 doors. In this case, check the integrity of the limit switches and the operation of the central locking. If the central locking does not work on all doors, ring the fuse that powers this unit.

Turn off the unit

If there is no result, the unit may need to be turned off. To do this, do the following:

  • Remove the wires from the battery.

  • Take out the ashtray and unscrew the four bolts that secure the housing.
  • Remove the plugs located near the service button.
  • Unscrew the two screws that are located under the plugs.
  • Remove the rotary air distributors.
  • Remove the central gasket by removing it from the clips.
  • Discard the electrical cables that lead to the electronics in the dashboard.
  • Remove the stock unit under the center air duct.

  • Disconnect the power cable.

Restore the diagnostic line after removing the standard alarm. To do this, install a jumper between the Kalina ECU and the diagnostic block. If the line is not needed, just connect the wires to restore the K-Line. You also need to erase the standard alarm immobilizer data in the ECU.

Setting a password and unlocking

In a situation where the standard alarm system on Kalina does not work, you may need to unlock the security system. The car developers have provided the ability to start the engine without a code key. In this case, you need to tell the controller a certain password, which is set by the accelerator pedal. At first it is not active. If the ignition is on and the engine is not running, the check engine button on the Kalina dashboard lights up. After activating it, the symbol goes out within a minute.

To deactivate the standard alarm in Kalina if it does not work, do the following:

  1. Insert the training key and turn off the ignition, remove the product from the lock.
  2. Within six seconds, start the ignition with a working “master key”. Three signals appear, and then two more.
  3. Turn off the ignition and remove the key.
  4. In six seconds, turn on the ignition with the teacher, and after three + two signals, turn off the ignition and remove the key.
  5. Turn on the ignition within six seconds. The “Check Engine” sign should light up and go out after a few minutes. Enter any password from 111111 to 999999.
  6. To set the password, press the accelerator pedal. The check engine light comes on. Hold the pedal for no more than 3 seconds and then release.
  7. Enter the code by pressing the gas pedal the required number of times (hold for three seconds). The next time you press (after entering the code), lock the pedal for five seconds.
  8. Enter the remaining numbers.

As soon as the password is activated and the Kalina standard alarm immobilizer does not work, start the engine. To do this, turn on the ignition with the operating element, enter the password. After specifying the sixth digit, the engine should start. If the engine stalls, you are given another 5 seconds to start, after which you will have to enter the password again.

This method is also relevant for Lada Kalina Cross in the “Norma” configuration. “Lux” and configurations with additional options imply the presence of an armrest with installed central locking buttons and electric windows. When connecting the central locking system, all work must be carried out with the vehicle's electrical equipment de-energized. Wires must be laid so that they do not touch metal. If this is not possible, then a tube is installed to protect the cable from breakage and other negative factors.

In inexpensive trim levels, there is no button to close the doors from the interior at all. In this case, the connection is made according to the following scheme:

Unlike the connection diagrams for the central locking system in the Kalina “Lux” configuration, there are no resistors and the “+” voltage is not used. But in this case, when you press the close button, all doors will be locked, and when you press the unlock button, only the driver's door will open. The options considered are among the simplest; more complex schemes require special skills, so it is better to entrust their implementation to professionals at a service station.

Pulse programming

When connecting a central lock, it is not enough to perform all the steps in the correct sequence; you also need to select the required pulse duration for the locks to operate. If it is too large, the actuators will overheat; if it is insufficient, it will not be enough to open and close. In the luxury configuration, all electronics usually “fall asleep” after 15 minutes of inactivity. To awaken it, an additional impulse is needed.

Central locking is a simple device, but it can secure your car from criminals much more effectively than a police cap on the passenger seat. The centralized door lock system is the most convenient way to quickly open and close them. If this security system is supplemented with a good car alarm, this will prevent you from ending up in a situation where your car is stolen or damaged.

Having tried to open the car using the key fob, one fine day you may find that the lock continues to operate and the car does not respond to key presses. In such a situation, it will be possible to unlock one door or even the central locking system by simply unlocking the driver's door lock. Only the security mode is not deactivated. The central locking, in turn, may not respond to commands for two reasons - the battery in the key fob is dead or synchronization is lost. How to solve these problems is discussed further.

Restoring synchronization

Let's say the keys on the key fob were pressed 1000 times outside the system's coverage area. Then synchronization between the following devices is lost: the key fob and the central locking control module. If the power to the chip installed in the key fob is turned off even for a short time, this will also cause a loss of synchronization. The maximum time interval, as we found out from the reviews, is 6 seconds.

The instruction manual attached to the cars of the Granta and Kalina-2 family says the following: in case of loss of synchronization, the key fob is re-registered, that is, data about it is entered into the system memory. The recording procedure is quite complex, and to complete it you need a “learning key”. If synchronization is indeed lost, try this:

  1. Turn on the ignition with the key you want to synchronize;
  2. Wait 6 seconds;
  3. The immobilizer lamp should start flashing, and then the ignition is turned off;
  4. After 10 seconds the ignition is turned on again. If the immobilizer lamp does not blink, it means that synchronization has been restored.

Everything looks simple, but the specified sequence will not necessarily be effective.

If there is a “training key”, but there is not a single registered key with buttons, you can start the engine like this: turn the ignition on and off, the lamp begins to flash, then within 6 seconds the key is moved to mark II (starter).

Emergency immobilizer shutdown

To disable the immobilizer, a digital code is used, which must first be written into the ECU memory.

To do this, you need to follow the activation procedure described above and then follow these steps:

  1. Turn the red key to the on position and wait until the immobilizer warning light on the instrument panel goes out.
  2. Dial the numbers of the future six-digit code. For this purpose, all numbers from 1 to 9 are allowed. Installation is carried out by quickly pressing the accelerator pedal all the way. When pressed, the immobilizer lamp lights up, and when released it goes out. After dialing the number, press the accelerator pedal and hold it until the immobilizer indicator goes out (about 5-6 seconds). Then you can dial the second number and so on. If you made a mistake when dialing and saving, the immobilizer indicator will not go out, but will flash. In this case, the entire procedure is repeated again, starting with activation.
  3. After dialing and recording the last digit, the immobilizer indicator does not go off. The accelerator pedal must be held for another 10 seconds and released.
  4. Turn off the ignition and remove the red key from the lock.

In case of problems with starting, you need to disable the immobilizer using the previously registered code, for this you will need:

  1. Turn on the ignition system. When using a key with a damaged or unrecognized microcircuit, the starter may be briefly activated, which will not lead to starting, since the fuel supply and ignition circuits are disconnected. The immobilizer indicator on the instrument cluster is activated and flashing.
  2. Wait about a minute until the icon goes out.
  3. Enter the code by pressing the accelerator pedal. To enter a number, quickly press the pedal all the way down. The number of presses corresponds to the code number. To separate the numbers, use a long press on the pedal (about 6 seconds). In fact, the input procedure repeats the process of programming the code.
  4. After entering the sixth digit, the fuel pump circuit will turn on and the immobilizer indicator will also light up. If you enter an incorrect number, the icon will flash. In this case, the code entry procedure is repeated from the first digit.

The controller unlocks the doors in two steps: a single press on the “Open” button unlocks the driver’s door, and you can completely unlock the door with a second press. But according to AvtoVAZ instructions, it is possible to reconfigure the system, and then disabling the lock will be done in one step. The setup procedure looks elementary:

  1. The ignition is turned on with a key equipped with control keys;
  2. Press the “Open” and “Close” buttons on the key and hold them for 5 seconds;
  3. The buzzer should sound and then the keys will be released.

If a single signal sounds, it means that the system has entered the required mode. The question remains how to return it to its previous mode of operation. Perform the sequence discussed here a second time. At the end, a double signal will sound, which will confirm the transition to the previous settings.

The single pulse mode is characterized by the following. If the driver's door is opened with a key rather than using a key fob, the controller unlocks each door. However, the effect of pressing the “Open” button will look the same.

Replacing a dead battery

Let's say the LED located on the key fob body flashes quickly when you press any key. There will be no reactions from the central locker in this case. All of the above suggests that it is time to replace the battery. Details are discussed below.

If the LED flashes when you press the key, you can still start the car with that key. The immobilizer can easily read the code written into the key fob chip, and synchronization will not be lost either. But it is recommended to hurry up when replacing the battery.

So, to disassemble the key fob body, you will need a Phillips screwdriver. Having unscrewed one self-tapping screw, use a knife to separate the halves that make up the housing structure. The result looks like this:

Once the circuit board is removed, look at which battery is being used. The first characters of the designation are the letters “CR”. Then comes a set of numbers.

When making a replacement, try not to leave the contacts free for more than 6 seconds. Otherwise, there is a high probability of loss of synchronization.

  1. We disassemble the case, determine the type of battery;
  2. We purchase the same battery;
  3. We are making a replacement.

Replacement process

A new ignition switch can be purchased either separately or in a set with cylinders for doors and trunk.

The procedure for replacing the ignition switch on Kalina involves the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the battery cable from the negative side .
    You can also remove the positive terminal, but it is better to disconnect the negative terminal.
  2. Take a Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the bolts located on the steering column. 1st and 2nd bolts. 3 fastening bolt. 4 and 5 bolts.
  3. We dismantle the steering switch clamps.
    We remove the switches themselves. We remove the plastic covers and gain access to the switches.
  4. Unscrew the bolts using a chisel.
    The fact is that after several years of use they get stuck significantly, and therefore you will have to work hard here. As a rule, the ignition switch is fixed with bolts with shear heads - you can’t do without a chisel.
  5. As a result, you will have access to the lock connectors.
    There will be only two of them here: the immobilizer antenna and the main power supply. They are located under the console cover. To gain access to the connectors, lightly pull the wiring harness away from the lock and then simply pull them out. Disconnect the terminal blocks.
  6. Having opened the connectors, turn off the ignition switch.
  7. We install a new lock, and then perform reassembly. We tighten the bolts and check the operation of the ignition switch. We tear off the bolt heads to make sure that the lock works.

After installing a new lock, do not forget about the doors and trunk, you now have different cylinders.

To avoid having to deal with programming the chip of a new key, you can simply change the key in the key fob body.
