The maintenance regulations state that the first oil change in the engine should be done after 3 thousand kilometers, and then at each maintenance (after 15 thousand kilometers) or once a year, whichever comes first.

You will need : warm up the engine to operating temperature, prepare new engine oil and filter, a “17” wrench, an oil filter remover (or a large screwdriver), clean rags and an empty container (4 l).

Engine oil change interval for Lada Granta

The engine lubrication replacement interval for this model, as for most other modern cars, is 10,000-15,000 kilometers.

On the new Grant, the first oil change was often carried out at a mileage of approximately 2000-3000 kilometers. There is no such recommendation in the current operating instructions. But experts strongly recommend changing the oil immediately after break-in.

If the Granta is rarely used and does not manage to travel 10 thousand kilometers in a year, it is still recommended to carry out the procedure annually.

When the car is often used in the city, constantly stuck in traffic jams, this operation needs to be carried out every 6000-8000 kilometers.

The lubricant should be replaced ahead of schedule when:

  • Lack of oil. You can add more if its color and consistency have not changed. If this happens often, have the power unit diagnosed to determine the cause. Normal oil consumption may be exceeded when running in a new or repaired engine;
  • Change in color or structure of oil on Granta;
  • The appearance of foreign impurities in the oil. If metal shavings are present when the engine has been run-in, you should contact a motor mechanic;
  • After 2000-3000 kilometers after a major overhaul of the power unit.

What transmission fluid to buy

Stores may offer you different options for transmission fluid, but not every one is suitable for the updated manual transmission of the Lada Granta. At the factory, Tatneft Translux with a viscosity of 75-85 is poured into it. We recommend that you choose oils with a viscosity of 75 to 90, as this is the best option for our climate.

In the store, it is important for you to find original oil of one of the brands:

  • Trans KP from TNK (you can purchase something similar, but marked Super);

Selecting oil and oil filter for Granta

It is not advisable to buy very cheap lubricants and in no case bulk ones.

How to drain lubricating fluid from Granta

Before changing the car oil, the old one should be drained. To do this you need:

  1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature. If the car has recently been driven, it is advisable to cool it down a little.
  2. Place the Granta on a viewing hole, overpass or lift, securely fix it to prevent it from rolling away or falling.
  3. Remove the crankcase protection, if present.
  4. Remove the engine oil filler cap.
  5. Place a pre-prepared container for old grease under the drain hole.
  6. Unscrew the hole plug.
  7. Drain the oil into a container.
  8. Replace the plug.

How to remove and install an oil filter on a Lada Granta

The lubricant filter on Grant is located behind the engine. To remove it, you need to unscrew it by hand or with a puller. If it is stuck, you should pierce it with a screwdriver and unscrew it, using it as a lever. When removing the filter element, it is advisable to use a container to drain the oil liquid.

Along with the oil filter, it is also recommended to change the air and fuel filters. It is advisable to install new filter elements every time you fill in fresh motor oil.

How to fill oil into a Granta engine

  2. Pour the liquid through the neck of the canister.
  3. Check the level with a dipstick. The oil should be between the Min and Max marks.
  4. Screw on the oil filler cap.

  7. Check the lubricant level using the dipstick. If there is not enough, add the required amount.

  • To replace, you need a 12mm hexagon , container , remover and a canister for filling;
  • It is better to work on a pit or a lift (the latter will require lowering/raising the car several times);
  • Do not overtighten the filter when installing;
  • Before pouring a new one, check the drain plug and the installation of a new filter;
  • If you removed the DPKV chip, put it back on before starting the engine;
  • After replacing and starting the machine, check that the oil pressure sensor goes out.

Low oil level on Lada Granta

Reasons for rising oil levels

An increase in the amount of lubrication of the Lada Granta power unit occurs for the following reasons:

  • Overfilling oil during replacement;
  • Fuel getting into the lubricant due to engine malfunctions and other reasons;
  • Penetration of antifreeze. This forms an emulsion of water, lubricating chemicals and coolant, noticeable on the dipstick. This happens if the cylinder head gasket is damaged or there are cracks in the cylinder block and its head.

Diagnosis and elimination of these problems, with the exception of banal overflow, are carried out in a car service center. Repairs are often expensive. But you should not delay with it, as this threatens to completely stop the Granta’s engine.

Design of 8-valve engines

The 11186 engine and its predecessor 11183 do not differ in the location of the components, although their displacement is different. A special feature of the design is the operating temperature of the engine, which in winter does not rise above 80 degrees. The manufacturer (AvtoVAZ) does not consider this feature to be a malfunction. The official information letter is in the material: operating temperature of an 8-valve engine.

The oil pan can be made in different versions. To service a car with a manual transmission, it is enough to have a spanner wrench, which is used to unscrew plug 4.
