Where materials need to be used

It should be taken into account that soundproofing of the VAZ-2110 is carried out with your own hands in several zones. And each of them has its own material. Try to use all materials according to the following recommendations:

After all, after the ShVI sticker, oh, what a shame it’s a year later to go to welding, rip everything off (and tearing off a well-rolled one is a hellish task), cook, re-glue... For one thing, when welding, you need to strengthen the body in all weak points, integrate amplifiers on the engine shield, front glasses. rear part of the body. roof... Be sure to weld all unnecessary holes in the body (drains on the floor, the hole for the old-style heater in the engine panel...) Since it’s going to be welded anyway, then do it thoroughly) 3) Anti-corrosion the bottom, this means painting it with reactive primer + applying joint sealant + acrylic + at least 2 layers of epoxy + coat with anti-gravel + paint with acrylic or varnish + apply a layer of anti-corrosive under the bottom (for example, reheated push salo + mastic brought to a boil and then sprinkled with sand)

4) As long as the interior is freshly painted, pristinely clean and does not require degreasing,

How much material will be needed

To soundproof the VAZ-2110 interior, trunk and hood, the following amount of materials will be required:

  1. Vibroplast no less than 32 sheets.
  2. Splenya 4mm thick, glue-based, at least 7 sheets.
  3. Splenya 4 mm with a base of sealant of at least 11 sheets.
  4. One roll of bitoplast.
  5. One roll of anti-squeak tape.
  6. At least two rolls of aluminum tape.

The maximum amount of vibroplast required for high-quality insulation of a car can be 39 sheets. Splended with glue and sealant - 14 and 8 sheets, respectively. It’s better to take extra soundproofing materials so as not to interrupt your work.

Materials used for car soundproofing

There are many options for materials used for sound insulation. You can make such material yourself, or you can use one or more of the ready-made solutions:

  • Bitoplast is polyurethane foam impregnated with bitumen. Excellent sound absorption due to its porous structure. Today it is the most popular soundproofing material.
  • Vibroplast is a bitumen-containing material covered with a layer of foil on both sides. Great for insulating hood, doors and trunk.
  • Modelen is used in cases where other materials are not suitable. It consists of fabric impregnated with glue.
  • Splen. Its main component is polyethylene foam. Unlike other materials, splen also has thermal insulation properties.

Combine materials depending on the installation location and what goals you are pursuing when gluing the interior. The first 2 options are the most optimal.

Tools for work

It is imperative to clean all surfaces to be treated and wash them thoroughly. The standard sound insulation of the VAZ-2110 must be removed from everywhere. You need to acquire the following tool:

  1. Sharp scissors.
  2. Convenient and sharp knife.
  3. Construction hairdryer.
  4. With a tape measure.
  5. Roller for rolling (preferably made of metal).
  6. Marker.
  7. Solvent, white spirit, or acetone.
  8. Clean rags.

All work will take no more than three days if done independently.

Preparation for work

Before starting work, it is necessary to completely disassemble the interior. All trim, front panel, and seats must be removed. If there is standard sound insulation on the VAZ-2110, it is necessary to completely remove it and get rid of the residue using a sharp knife and acetone. When disassembling, do not think about losing the parts that secure all the elements.

Label the nuts and bolts to ensure they are in place during assembly. Small elements must be placed in a bag and glued with tape to the part to which they belong. Only after careful preparation can you begin to apply insulating materials. Be sure to vacuum all metal elements and treat them with a solvent so that the insulating material adheres better.

Disassembling the interior

First of all, you need to remove the front and rear seats. After this, you can begin dismantling the console. You'll have to tinker here, although there shouldn't be any particular difficulties. There are few fasteners on the panel, so it can be easily removed.

However, it is recommended to remember the order in which the wires are connected - this will save time during assembly. It is best to mark the pads by drawing up a wiring diagram. To remove the dashboard, you will have to remove the steering wheel along with the steering column cover. The rugs also need to be removed.

The standard sound insulation of the VAZ-2110 under the seats is fiber-bitumen, of different structure, thickness and appearance. At the back, the insulation is thinner, more elastic and covered with a film. Under the driver's seat the insulation is thicker, stiffer and without film.

This circuit effectively absorbs the noise of a running engine. But when replacing, the standard insulation must be dismantled, and the work here is complicated due to the many plastic fasteners. Most likely, the thick layer of new insulation will prevent the fasteners from being reinstalled, so they will no longer be needed.

After the dismantling of the old insulation has been completed, the interior has been stripped down to bare metal, and wires are hanging everywhere, you can immediately begin soundproofing the VAZ-2110.

Ceiling and doors

The first step is to apply vibroplast to the metal surfaces of the door and ceiling. The entire surface must be cleaned and degreased. The work must be done very quickly while the material is hot. The vibroplast is heated using a technical hair dryer or an electric heater. Only in this case will it stick to the surface much better and take the shape of the body element.

To apply vibroplast to the surface as efficiently as possible, you need to use a metal roller. Try not to allow any air bubbles to form. If even the slightest bubble appears, condensation will begin to accumulate in it, which will lead to the body rusting. Vibroplast should be glued crosswise on the ceiling and doors, in this case it will last longer and be stronger.

Where does the water in the trunk come from?

It is known that the appearance of water in the interior or trunk of a car can lead to corrosion there.

It is recommended that owners pay attention to this factor as often as possible and check the accumulation of water under the floor mats in the cabin and in the trunk, especially in rainy weather. You should also periodically check the underbody of the car for damage.

Over time, seals deteriorate, and this can also cause condensation in a car that is poorly ventilated. In this case, moisture can get into the car’s wiring, which will lead to a short circuit and fire, or failure of certain systems.

Interior and trunk wrapping

Now you need to soundproof the car floor. For this purpose, vibroplast and splen are used. Vibroplast is laid as the first layer; it must be applied to the maximum area. Cover the material as best as possible so that it adheres to the metal surface. Splen is applied as the second layer. It also needs to be glued to the maximum area of ​​the bottom of the cabin.

Recently, this type of sound insulation has become popular, such as applying a rubber-bitumen mixture to the outside of the car’s bottom. This allows you to reduce the level of vibration coming from the wheels and road surface. But it will be much more effective if you simultaneously treat the inner surface of the bottom. Everything inside the trunk needs to be carefully sealed with vibroplast. It will be a little more difficult here, since there is a niche for the spare wheel, protrusions for the shock absorber struts, and sometimes the edges of the screws come out.

Is there an effect

What does soundproofing a motor shield provide?

:

  1. Reduces engine noise.
  2. Reduces the level of vibrations on the body.
  3. Makes the engine shield stronger (the effect is similar to installing a bulkhead amplifier): less vibration on the steering wheel when driving, the steering wheel rotates more easily (on cars without ESD/power steering).

To reduce the noise level in the cabin by 2-4 dB (a difference of 1 dB is barely noticeable or not noticeable by ear at all), it is necessary to approach the sound insulation of the car comprehensively, work on all parts of the body (floor, doors, roof, trunk, dashboard, etc.). etc.), wheel arches and fender liners. Also, on LADA cars it would be a good idea to install additional door seals (instructions for XRAY, Vesta, Granta/Kalina/Priora, Largus and Lada 4x4).

Shutdown

The last things you need to cover are the trunk lid, hood, and dashboard elements. Try to apply insulating material to all elements of the dashboard that may be sources of squeaks and extraneous noise. After gluing is completed, you need to assemble the entire interior, install the instrument panel, door trim, lay the carpet and install the seats.

The better the sound insulation of the car floor, the less vibration will be transmitted to the interior. After all the work carried out, comfort will be much higher, squeaks will disappear, and even the engine will start to run quieter (it feels like).

The standard sound insulation provided for the VAZ 2110 leaves much to be desired. No, it cannot be called terrible, but there is always something to strive for.
