On a Lada Kalina, replacing the engine air filter is a very simple and elementary procedure that absolutely any owner of this car can do.
To replace the filter element on a VAZ Kalina, you need to open the hood, unscrew the four screws on the filter housing and remove the top cover. The recommendation from the factory is to replace it every 30 thousand km. For details, nuances and tips on how to replace the engine air filter on a Lada Kalina, watch the video. Installing/replacing the engine filter takes no more than a couple of minutes.
Hello, dear friends and colleagues!
Today I would like to bring to your attention the topic of air filters, which are used on all cars with a traditional engine and power system. Like all consumables, car air filters must be periodically replaced with new ones. And the more often, the better. Because a clogged engine air filter leads to deterioration in performance and increased fuel consumption, and the filter element of the ventilation and heating system leads to premature wear of the fan and some problems with the air conditioner...
So, let’s look step by step at how to properly replace air filters, and at the same time carry out a little preventive maintenance for your health =) The choice of manufacturer does not play a big role here. The filters most often found in stores are the Russian brand - “Big Filter”.
1) Replacement of the engine air filter.
This is perhaps the simplest thing that can be. To access the filter, you need to open the hood and use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the 4 screws securing the air element housing cover. If necessary, you can disconnect the mass air flow sensor and also loosen the clamp securing the air corrugation to the housing cover.
Why and when to change the air filter
To form a fuel mixture with the correct composition, clean air will flow into the combustion chamber. The operating conditions of modern cars are far from ideal. There is a lot of dust in the air, there are combustion products, midges, pieces of leaves, and other debris. It gets inside the chamber, clogs the fuel system, and negatively affects the engine. For this reason, timely and adequate cleaning is important. The filtration element is responsible for it.
In Kalina, removing the air filter housing is simple and quick; there are no problems with doing the work yourself - many drivers do it themselves. At a service station, the cost of the procedure starts from 1000 rubles, so there will be adequate savings.
The driver should know the symptoms of a blockage. In this case, he will be able to quickly take action. The following symptoms indicate a poor condition of the node:
- Fuel consumption has increased - a dirty filter does not allow air to pass through well, so the car begins to consume more fuel to perform standard operations. If the blockage is severe, about 3 liters per 100 km are added.
- The thrust disappeared and detonation increased - also a characteristic sign of a clogged filter.
- There were problems starting the engine, it starts, but not the first time, it just changed its behavior. Engine power usually drops.
If you do nothing, difficulties will arise with the electronics, spark plugs, and the “Check Engine” error will appear. The only way to ensure the necessary conditions for durability and adequate operation of the element is to replace it in a timely manner. Cleaning and blowing are pointless because they do not solve the problem. The filtration element has the form of a plastic housing, inside of which a filtration unit is placed. A paper insert with large pores is needed to purify the air. Dirt gets clogged into the pores, preventing normal air exchange.
Blowdowns are used only as an improvised way to restore the performance of a part. In the long term they are useless, moreover, cleaning can disrupt the pore structure, and the element will perform even worse than before.
The cleaning unit is responsible for the longevity of the engine, so do not ignore scheduled replacements
Where is the air filter located?
The mounting of the air filter Kalina 1 and other versions is approximately the same. The element is located inside a large plastic box. You can find it if you open the engine hood. Another name for the element is the air filter housing. It is convenient to navigate using the signs.
Most drivers carry out Kalina service maintenance themselves
How to replace the air filter on Lada Kalina
Correct installation of the air filter on Kalina involves a number of steps. The work is not complicated, but rather requires accuracy. You should not rush, so as not to damage the components - many cannot be restored, only replacement will help. Beginners are recommended to watch the video before performing operations. Visual instructions are clearer and simpler. It would also be a good idea to read the manufacturer's recommendations.
Replacing the air filter Kalina 1 without air conditioning and with air conditioning is carried out according to the same scheme. The difference is that with a climate system, there is a need for regular cleaning. To treat the air conditioner, a special flushing agent is used; it is enough to repeat the procedure every 50 thousand km. If this is not done, a persistent damp smell will arise.
How to remove the air filter housing on Lada Kalina
Removal of the air filter Kalina 1 is carried out according to the following scheme; compliance with each stage is mandatory. You need to open the hood of the car, disconnect the plug from the air flow sensor. The operation takes a couple of seconds and there is no need to use a special tool. A clamp is used to secure the sensor. You need it:
- Press upward.
- Apply force and pull to the side.
It is better to hook the wires freed as a result to something so that they do not dangle. Experienced craftsmen usually simply move the wires to the sides. Then unscrew the four bolts that secure the filter to the cover. It is convenient to use a Phillips-type screwdriver, but a flathead screwdriver will also work. That is, you can remove the Kalina 1 air filter with its housing in 5-10 minutes.
All contamination must be removed during work
How to properly install an air filter on Kalina
After removing the bolts, you need to open the cover and pull it out, applying a certain force. The old element will be visible - it is removed to install the new one.
A clogged filter usually changes color greatly
It is correct to install the air filter on Kalina after cleaning the opened space from dirt and in the reverse order of removal. You need to make sure that the element is positioned as needed; a click will be heard. When installing, check that the ribs go in the direction of travel (forward).
How to replace the fuel pump mesh on a VAZ 1117-VAZ 1119?
Removal: 1) Before removing it and replacing it with a new one, the fuel pump will need to be pulled out, this is done very quickly and there should be no problems, just be sure to read our instructions for removing it so that no problems really arise, more details about that how to remove the fuel pump from a car, read the article: “Replacing the fuel pump on cars.”
2) Now that the fuel pump has been removed, proceed to disassemble it, first disconnect the wire block from the intermediate connector (see large photo), and then in a circle press the four latches that secure the module housing to the fuel pump housing and then remove the fuel pump housing from the car, lifting it up, but you won’t be able to completely remove it, because the tubes will get in the way (You don’t need to disconnect them, it will be enough for you that the fuel pump body comes out a little from the body of the fuel pump module and you will replace the mesh with a new one).
Note! When you remove the housing, carefully disconnect the drain tube from the module housing with a screwdriver (see small photo), but when the fuel pump housing is already pulled out, rinse thoroughly (it is best with carburetor cleaning fluid, it is sold in a can) the inside of the module housing, in gasoline is stored in it, and each gasoline contains particles of dirt and this dirt accumulates in the module housing and so that it does not clog the new mesh immediately after installation, it is recommended to wash the housing with anything to remove all dirt! Installation: The new mesh is installed by snapping it in place, the old one can be removed very easily by hand or you can use a screwdriver to pry the mesh and remove it from the fuel pump

How often should you change the air filter?
The air filter on Kalina must be changed according to the regulations, otherwise the engine will come under attack and the atmosphere in the cabin will sharply deteriorate. You can use paper and carbon elements - the former are cheaper, the latter are better at eliminating contamination, and of all types at once.
The manufacturer recommends maintenance every 30 thousand km, but experts say that this is too much. This frequency is suitable under ideal operating conditions; in other situations, the intervals are reduced by 2-3 times. If starting is difficult, fuel consumption has increased, or vehicle dynamics have suffered, work must be carried out immediately.
Carbon elements eliminate debris, germs, and unpleasant odors
Digesting garbage
In principle, these are not horror stories for dummies, but quite understandable and obvious things. Kalina consumes approximately 10-13 cubic meters of air over a 100 km run. You can imagine how much garbage and dust is contained in this amount of road air, especially if it is a country road. We have data that relates to well-maintained European roads. If you believe them, then on a typical European autobahn there is about 1 mg of dust per cubic meter of air, and in the area of construction sites and on dusty highways the silicon content can reach up to 40 mg/m³. Moreover, these are very approximate data from European laboratories, let alone our roads...
Lada Kalina 2 with a range of 100 km consumes about 13 m3 of air
This is understandable, but at the same time, the air filter on Kalina also serves as a muffler for excess noise created by the intake system when air is sucked in. The more difficult it is for the engine to obtain air for normal operation, the louder the intake system becomes. In addition, the air filter also regulates the temperature of the air entering the system. Due to the fact that the air is retained while passing through the filter paper, it heats up already at the intake stage. This is especially useful in wet weather and winter. Then the temperature difference in the intake tract will not be so significant.
Procedure for replacing the Kalina air filter
So, first we open the hood of the Kalina and the first thing you need to do is disconnect the plug from the mass air flow sensor so that it does not interfere in the future. It is secured with a clamp that needs to be pressed up from below and pulled forcefully to the side.
It should come out without any problems. We take these wires to the side. They won’t get in our way anymore, but it’s better to hook them onto something, fix them somehow.
Now you can move on to the next step. Unscrew all 4 bolts that secure the air filter cover. It is best to use a thick Phillips screwdriver, but from personal experience I was convinced that the bolts are not tightened very tightly and a regular screwdriver is quite suitable, even a flat one.
After everything is unscrewed, it is enough to pull the lid with a little force to open it. We can say that everything is ready. We remove the old air filter by hand, simply pulling it, wipe everything thoroughly so that there is no dust left inside and replace it with a new one.
Don’t forget to place the element with its ribs forward, in the direction of movement, and firmly insert the sealing rubber on the filter body itself. We put the cover in place, tighten all the screws, and insert the same wire from the air sensor into its place. That's all. Do not forget that replacement must be done at least 30 thousand km in urban areas, and preferably no more than after 15 thousand km when operating in rural areas. Then dust and various debris will not get into the injector and the injection system of the Lada Kalina will work for a long time and without failure.
The air filter, which is installed in the air intake tract of the car, is important for ensuring the process of optimal formation of the air-fuel mixture. If you neglect to replace this element in a timely manner, the engine faces serious consequences, which over time can result in expensive repairs. The popular domestic model Lada Kalina, which we are considering, is no exception.
Replacement instructions
- Disconnect the mass air flow sensor: remove the terminals from it. In Kalina it is located under the hood. Take the wires to the side and secure.
- Unscrew the 4 filter housing screws.
- Open the lid with force.
- Remove the worn filter element, first remembering the position of the arrow on it. The direction of the filter bellows must coincide with the direction of the arrow.
- Use a vacuum cleaner to move around the area where the filter is installed and wipe off the dust.
- Insert a new filter, aligning the marked arrow with the direction of incoming air - with the ribs towards the nose.
- Adjust the rubber seal in the filter element housing.
- Close the air filter and tighten the 4 cover screws without moving them.
- Return the terminals to their place.

When is it necessary to replace the Lada Kalina air filter?
The manufacturer's instructions for Kalina indicate that the filter we are interested in needs to be changed after the car has “run” 30 thousand kilometers. A driver who cares about the technical condition of his car pays little attention to this advice, preferring to change the filter much more often.
Experts recommend performing this procedure every time the oil is changed or the vehicle undergoes a technical inspection.
According to reviews from Kalina owners, the installation of a new air filter is required for their “iron horse” after 13–15 kilometers. However, if you drive your car exclusively on well-maintained city roads, the replacement can be carried out exactly within the time frame (30 thousand kilometers) set by AvtoVAZ. In other cases, the new element should be installed much earlier.
Considering that the operation of dismantling the old filter and installing a new one is easily carried out in a private garage, I think it is better to take care of your car and your safety while driving by replacing the failed element as necessary. The vehicle will respond to such care to the driver with long-term and trouble-free operation.
Do regular maintenance - help the engine!
Of course, this applies primarily to stable oil changes after a certain period of time and replacement of all kinds of filters according to the mileage of the car. And today we will talk about such a device, without which the work of the entire engine would be difficult. Of course, we will talk about the air filter.
What is an air filter for?
This filter is no longer helpful to you.
The engine air filter serves for timely air purification, as well as the formation of a fuel mixture in the engine. According to statistics, for every 100 kilometers driven, a car is capable of consuming from 11 to 16 cubic meters of atmospheric air, which undoubtedly contains particles of dust and dirt. And if there was no air filter in the car, then premature repair of the engine would be guaranteed.
How to change the Lada Kalina air filter with your own hands?
We purchase a new filter and prepare the following tools:
- Phillips screwdriver;
- rags;
- vacuum cleaner.
We open the hood of our “swallow” and disconnect the plug from the air flow sensor. This operation is performed in literally a couple of seconds without using any special tool. The sensor is secured with a conventional fastener, which follows:
- wait from bottom to top;
- pull to the side with some effort.
The freed wires can be hooked onto something so that they do not get in the way when replacing the filter (if the procedure is performed by an experienced motorist, he simply moves them to the sides). After this, you need to unscrew the four bolts that secure the air filter to the cover. It is advisable to perform this operation with a Phillips screwdriver. But it doesn’t matter if you don’t have it on hand. On most Kalinas, the tightening of the mentioned bolts is not strong, which means they can be unscrewed with a simple flat-head screwdriver.
After removing the bolts, safely open the cover, pulling it out with little force. Before us is an old filter that we want to replace. We take out the spent element, carefully wipe the free space with a rag, and then also use a vacuum cleaner to completely get rid of fine dirt and dust. We take the new filter in our hands, orient it so that its ribs are located in the direction of movement (that is, forward), and insert it into the housing.

Replacing the Lada Kalina air filter is a simple and at the same time very important procedure. The filter plays a huge role in the formation of the fuel mixture, and untimely replacement can lead to a decrease in the vehicle's performance and serious engine damage.
Now, in order...
1. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the four fastening screws of the filter housing cover, then remove the filter element itself. Important, try to remember the location of the arrow marked on it!
2. Install a new filter element, and the arrow on it should coincide with the direction of air flow.
3. Next, carefully close the cover and tighten the 4 screws.
At this point, replacing the Lada Kalina engine air filter can be considered complete! Now, if necessary, you can replace the air filter yourself.
What is an air filter for?
Lada Kalina, like any other passenger car, consumes about 12-14 cubic meters. m of air per 100 km of run. The air enters the fuel-air mixture, which burns in the cylinders and sets the engine pistons in motion. Since the air contains a lot of dust and dirt, it needs to be filtered, and it is for these purposes that an air filter is used. It is often made from simple cardboard, so it is quite cheap.
If the air entering the engine cylinders is not cleaned, all the dust and dirt from it will settle on the cylinder walls, which can ultimately lead to premature engine repair. In addition to direct filtration, this part is also used to soundproof the intake tract and to regulate the temperature of the fuel mixture.
If the filter is heavily clogged, it begins to pass air less well, which leads to an enrichment of the fuel mixture and, accordingly, to its incomplete combustion. Because of this, engine power decreases, fuel consumption increases, and exhaust gases become more toxic. That is why the filter element must be changed promptly.
AvtoVAZ recommends changing the Kalina air filter every 30,000 km if your car is used in city conditions, and every 15,000 km if the car is used for country trips. In each case, these numbers may vary slightly.
If you don’t know when the filter was last replaced, you can simply inspect it visually: if the filter element is dirty and covered with dust, then it needs to be changed.
Often, car owners replace this part at the same time as changing the engine oil. Depending on operating conditions, this is done either at each oil change or every other time.
The role of the filter in a car
The Lada Kalina engine requires about 12-14 cubic meters of air for every 100 km of travel. In the intake manifold, it is mixed with fuel sprayed by the injector nozzles. The mixture then enters the cylinder chambers, where it is burned. The optimal proportion of air to fuel ensures that the engine achieves the characteristics declared by the manufacturer. It is no secret that a large volume of dust, suspended dirt and other compounds enters the intake receiver along with the air. The role of the filter is to ensure high-quality cleaning of the intake air, because it is a kind of barrier in the path of these negative particles.
If there was no air filter, then all the suspended dirt would inevitably fall inside the engine cylinders, gradually settling on its walls and accumulating in the oil system. This would lead to scoring on the walls of the liners and liners, which would require a major overhaul.
Gradual clogging of the filter element leads to a deterioration in its throughput and, as a consequence, to air starvation of the LADA Kalina engine. This is fraught with the formation of carbon deposits on the parts of the valve assembly and elements of the cylinder-piston group, because such combustion will be characterized by the presence of a fuel-enriched mixture above the permissible limit. This inevitably leads to increased fuel consumption and a decrease in the power level of the unit. Also, exhaust gases are endowed with increased toxicity.

Every owner of a Lada Kalina car should know how to replace the air filter with their own hands. For those who have not done this yet, a useful guide from our website. As written in the official operating and maintenance instructions for the Lada Kalina, the air filter should be replaced at least every 30,000 km. Of course, these are only recommendations from AvtoVAZ, and they should not be treated as a clear rule.
Although, if the car is constantly used in the city, then most likely this period is quite justified. But if your car spends most of its mileage in rural areas, then it is better not to wait until 30 thousand km, but to change the filter no later than 15,000 kilometers. I would like to describe the entire procedure in more detail below. Experienced owners will not need this instruction, but a beginner will find it quite useful.
Replacing the air filter yourself:
So, first, open the hood of the Lada Kalina and the first thing you need to do is disconnect the plug from the mass air flow sensor so that it does not interfere in the future. It is secured with a clamp that needs to be pressed up from below and pulled forcefully to the side.
It should come out without any problems. We take these wires to the side. They won’t get in our way anymore, but it’s better to hook them onto something, fix them somehow.

Another useful article will be for you to replace the cabin filter of the Lada Kalina with your own hands.
Today’s article will not be large in volume; it will tell you how to independently replace the air filter on a Lada Kalina.
In general, the instruction manual says that on the Lada Kalina the air filter is replaced after thirty thousand kilometers, many do this, but this is not entirely correct.
How to change the coarse mesh
The work package for replacing the first stage filter consists of several stages:
- Buying a new part.
- Preparation of tools and repair site.
- Disassembly, removal of the gasoline pump and replacement of the mesh catcher.
To replace the old dirty mesh, you need to remove the fuel pump
How to choose a Kalina mesh filter is described in the previous section. The location for repair work does not matter, since you do not need a car overpass or inspection ditch - disassembly is carried out from the interior.
Preparatory stage
In warm weather, disassemble the car directly on the street, but in windy weather, find a quiet place, otherwise dust will blow into the interior. In winter, it is more convenient to work in an insulated garage or box.
The tools you need to prepare are:
- a Phillips and flathead screwdriver;
- pliers;
- a small chisel or metal point;
- hammer;
- clean rags.
Before starting work, remove unnecessary objects from the rear row of seats, and then remove the seats themselves. They block access to the technological opening with a hatch leading to the fuel tank. The latter is attached to the bottom of the car from the outside.
Removing the fuel pump and replacing the mesh
The first step is to relieve excess pressure in the fuel line, otherwise when the pipes are removed, a stream of fuel will splash around the trim and the pungent smell of gasoline will “linger” in the cabin for a long time. There are 2 ways to relieve pressure:
- Pull out the 15 A fuse for the fuel pump electrical circuit, located under the cover in the center tunnel. Start the engine and wait until it stalls due to lack of fuel. Repeat the operation 2-3 times.
- Open the hood and locate the injector fuel rail valve. It is located on the right side (in the direction of travel) under the receiver and is a regular spool (the same ones are found in tires). Place a small container and press the valve, after twisting the protective cap.
After removing the rear seat, you will have access to a hatch covered by a fold-down trim flap. Place the cover aside and proceed to disassembly, performing the operations in the following order:
- Take a Phillips head screwdriver and remove the 4 screws holding the hatch in place. Remove the cover.
- Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery, then disconnect the fuel pump power connector.
- Squeezing the plastic retainer with your hand, pull the first pipe from the pump fitting. To remove the second tube, bend the metal bracket and plastic latch.
- The pump housing is held in place by a lock washer. To unscrew it, use a small chisel and lightly use a hammer to turn the washer counterclockwise.
- Remove the locking plate and carefully remove the fuel pump from the tank. At the same time, tilt the body to the side so as to pull out the float without bending it. Cover the opened hole with a clean rag to prevent debris from accidentally getting into the tank.
- Disconnect the internal pump connector (located under the cover) and remove it from the glass by bringing together the 4 long plastic latches.
- The old mesh is simply pressed onto the fitting and removed by hand.
It is advisable to remove dust with a vacuum cleaner so that it does not fall into the open tank
The new strainer is installed on the fitting until the latch clicks, after which the assembly can be assembled in the reverse order. Before doing this, look inside the glass where the gas pump is located: if you find dirt at the bottom, remove it with a rag or wash it with a brush soaked in gasoline. Before starting the engine, turn the ignition on and off several times, allowing the fuel pump to raise the pressure in the line to normal.
The above-described procedure for replacing the coarse filter element is performed in the same way on Kalinas with different body types. The same technology is used when repairing a Lada Kalina Sport car.
When to change the air filter on Kalina?
Although modern filters are of better quality, a lot depends on the operating conditions of your vehicle, let’s say you often drive on dusty dirt roads, and this significantly reduces the life of the filter element and 30 thousand is out of the question.
Many car owners, of course, only drive on asphalt, but nevertheless, dust, dirt, and fluff inevitably get into the filter, no matter how much you want it.
Therefore, I would like to give a little advice to beginners: at least sometimes remove and blow out the filter with compressed air, this, so to speak, will allow your engine to breathe freely and it will thank you with its power and dynamics.
What can happen if the Kalina air filter is clogged:
- Loss of engine power.
- Increased fuel consumption.
- The mass air flow sensor (MAF) may fail.
Self-replacement of the Lada Kalina air filter
All actions will be carried out in the engine compartment, so open the hood and start changing the air filter.
What you will need:
- New air filter Lada Kalina.
- Screwdriver.
- Rags, rag.
So, the steps are very simple: remove the connector from the sensor (mass air flow sensor) and unscrew the four screws that are made to fit a shaped screwdriver (Phillips), you can unscrew them even if they are not very tightly tightened with a regular screwdriver.
We lift the upper part of the housing and take out the filter, after which we thoroughly wipe everything there. We install the new one with the strips forward in the direction of the air flow if there is a hint on the body.
Now we screw the screws back in, and most importantly, don’t forget to insert the connector onto the mass air flow sensor, which you removed before.
At this point, replacing the Lada Kalina air filter is considered complete. Never forget to change the filter on time, be it a fuel, oil, air or cabin filter.
The air filter is designed to clean the air entering the car engine. It refers to consumables that require replacement during routine technical inspections. The article describes how to replace the Lada Kalina air filter.
Which filter to choose for Kalina
When choosing a cabin filter, pay attention to its applicability. Will it be suitable for Kalina or not. Today, manufacturers offer a fairly large selection of filters at a variety of prices.
- SCT SB 201 price about 150 rub.
- BIG BIG-9597 from 180 RUR
- Kilometer KM-9597C from 120 rub.
- Salute 2112-1109080-03 from 140 rub.
- RIGINAL 190557 from 130 rub.
- ELEMENT EA-775 from 140 RUR
Any of the above filters can be installed on Kalina/Kalina 2, they will all fit. As a rule, most stores and service stations offer domestic filters Salut or BIG . They have proven themselves well, and their price is quite reasonable.
In what cases is replacement necessary?
For a car, especially with an injector, it is very important what condition the air filter is in. For high-quality operation of an internal combustion engine, a large volume of air is required, much larger than fuel, which is taken from the environment. The purpose of the filter element is to clean this air from these contaminants, because the quality of the air-fuel mixture depends on its purity.
The filter is a filter paper folded into an accordion to increase the filtering surface. During operation, the pores of the filter become clogged, which reduces its throughput and deteriorates the quality of the air that comes from the environment. The air filter also acts as a device that reduces noise during air intake, as well as a thermostat. This is especially true in winter; the incoming air, passing through the filter element, heats up, so the temperature difference will not be so noticeable.
The following factors influence the frequency of replacement:
- quality of road surface;
- quality of the filter element;
- terms of Use.
According to manufacturers' recommendations, the filter material should be changed at least after 30 thousand kilometers or after a visual inspection if it is heavily contaminated.
If the car is operated on unpaved roads or in a metropolis with polluted air, the air filter must be changed after 15 thousand kilometers.
Old and new filters
Some advice from professionals
The following symptoms indicate that your car's air filter is dirty and requires immediate replacement:
- reduction of vehicle dynamics;
- difficult starting;
- a noticeable increase in fuel consumption.
If you begin to notice these phenomena, check the filter and change it. All the described symptoms will disappear without a trace. And further. When you install the new filter, very carefully insert the rubber seal, which is located on the housing itself. Then tighten the bolts and enjoy the high-quality operation of the car’s engine over the next 10–12 thousand kilometers.

Recommendations for use
For proper operation of the engine at full power, it is necessary to ensure the cleanliness of the filter material. You should not wait until it becomes completely dirty, as in this case the engine power decreases and fuel consumption increases. In addition, abrasive particles coming from contaminated material can scratch the cylinder walls, which will lead to wear of the cylinder-piston group.
Thus, it is not necessary to follow the recommendations specified in the operating manual for the Lada Kalina car and change the filter element after 30 thousand km. It should be changed as it gets dirty, most often after 15-20 thousand km. The procedure does not take much time, but the engine will last longer and operate efficiently.
Video “Replacing the air filter on a Lada Kalina car”
This video demonstrates the process of replacing the air filter on Kalina with your own hands.
The air filter belongs to the engine power system and is designed to clean the air involved in the mixture formation process. Excessive filter contamination leads to oxygen starvation, reduced engine power, excessive fuel consumption, etc. If unpurified air is not so harmful for piston group parts, it is simply destructive for the mass air flow sensor (MAF). The sensor is located directly after the air filter and is perhaps the most expensive sensor (its price is 2500 - 3500 rubles) in the Kalina engine management system.
Replacing the air filter is a routine maintenance procedure for a Lada Kalina car. If your car is no longer under warranty, for the reasons described above, it is still necessary to replace it - this will save you time and money.
What you will need for replacement: the filter element itself, and a Phillips screwdriver.
Procedure: 1. Unscrew the 4 screws securing the filter housing cover and remove the filter element (we recommend remembering the location of the arrow marked on it!).
2. Insert the new element so that the arrow marked on it coincides with the direction of the air flow.
3. Close the lid, tighten the 4 screws evenly, avoiding distortions.
Replacing the fuel filter
The fuel filter also belongs to the engine power supply system. It is located on the right side of the fuel tank near the rear wheel. A clogged filter can lead to loss of power, jerking and stalling when driving. In the author’s practice, there was a case when the filter housing (by the way, a filter from the AvtoVAZ assembly line!) leaked and gasoline oozed through it.
Replacing the fuel filter, like the air filter, is a routine vehicle maintenance procedure. If the car is no longer under warranty, it is recommended to change the filter once a year, along with an oil change.
Attention: This operation involves direct contact with gasoline, it must be carried out away from sources of open flame and avoid smoking!
What you will need: a new filter, rubber gloves, an inspection hole or a piece of tarpaulin (when performing this operation from a “lying” position).
1. Unscrew the plug on the fuel rail, then press the valve with a screwdriver and bleed the remaining fuel in the fuel line into a previously placed container or rag. Screw the plug into place.
2. Squeezing the antennae of one of the tips of the fuel filter, gently shake it and at the same time pull it off the filter fitting. We carry out a similar operation with the second tip.
3. Use a 10mm wrench (preferably a socket wrench) to loosen the clamp and remove the filter. We insert the new filter so that the arrow on its body is directed in the direction of fuel flow. For Kalina 1118 “sedan” this is in the direction of travel of the car. 4. Snap both tips into place, making sure that they “sit” all the way. 5. Turn on the ignition (but do not start the engine!) for 5-6 seconds - 3 times in a row. The pressure in the fuel system will be maximum. Inspect the filter for fuel leaks.
If everything is in order and gasoline is not dripping or oozing anywhere, the operation is completed.

Welcome, friends, to the DIY auto repair website. We are starting to write another column on the repair and maintenance of the Lada Kalina car.
Today’s article will not be large in volume; it will tell you how to independently replace the air filter on Kalina.
Replacing the air filter Lada Kalina
In general, the instruction manual says that on the Lada Kalina the air filter is replaced after thirty thousand kilometers, many do this, but this is not entirely correct.
