In contrast to the appearance, the interior of the new Lada Niva Travel remains 99.9% unchanged. Even the word Niva on the center console remains written in General Motors font. As in Shnivy, in the new Travel, depending on the configuration, the front panel will change slightly. Now about the details of the interior in order, what has changed and what remains the same. The front panel, like most of the interior of the new Lada Niva Travel, came from the Chevrolet Niva. The very top of the central panel in the basic and mid-range configurations is dedicated to control buttons for foglights, heated rear and windshields, and air conditioning. A little lower is the horizontal indicator of the on-board computer. If we talk about the top-end configuration of the Lada Travel, then at the very top there will be a 7″ color touch display with an E-Link system for displaying information from an Android-based smartphone.

As before, multimedia control leaves much to be desired, slow response, a small list of functions and a slightly dim display. This is exactly how many car enthusiasts celebrated the new multimedia. However, thanks to the presence of a display, this equipment received a rear view camera and parking sensors. Going lower down the center console, the designers placed a pair of rectangular air ducts, even lower than handles for controlling temperature, air flow and speed, in other words for a simple air conditioner. Finally, the console ends with two panels, one for an audio system with 2 or 4 speakers and a panel with a 12V socket, a USB connector, adjustment of the side mirrors and buttons for heated front seats.

The central tunnel of the Lada Niva Travel looks simple and without unnecessary details. There is a manual transmission lever, a four-wheel drive control lever, a small compartment for small items, a handbrake and an armrest. By the way, the armrest in the top configuration comes with a cooling function, which will be a plus for long trips in the summer.

As for the interior of the Lada Niva Travel itself, according to the standard it is designed for 5 seats according to the 2+3 formula. The seat upholstery is only available in black fabric. Changes will most likely be in the color of the ceiling; in standard versions it is a light shade, and in the Off-Road version the ceiling will be black. Front seat adjustment is available in 4 directions, and in the top version the driver's seat can be adjusted in 6 directions. The second row of seats can be folded in a 60/40 ratio, thereby increasing trunk space.

The last detail in the Lada Niva Travel interior is the driver’s seat. Since the car came under the control of VAZ, the panel is now the latest model from Lada. Ergonomics

The main innovations of the restyling are in the interior of the SUV. Firstly, the finishing materials have been improved - both plastic and upholstery. In addition, the dashboard has become more modern. The latter was borrowed from LADA Granta. The front panel has been updated, receiving more rounded and modern shapes. All switches on the center console have an improved appearance, and there is space for a radio underneath. The seats were updated, offering higher-quality upholstery material and a little lateral support for the front row.

Safety

There is an "Airbag" inscription on the back of the driver's seat. Fantastic: an airbag was stuck in the Niva! But only one, and a side one at that.

There is an explanation for the paradox. After restyling, the 4x4 acquired the ERA-GLONASS module, now mandatory. To operate in an automatic mode in case of an accident, it requires a trigger. And in all cars the system is “awakened” by a deployed airbag. But Niva never had one!

Installing a front airbag is too expensive: you will have to redraw the entire structure of the front part of the body along with the steering mechanism. Without this, the pillow will not only be useless, but even dangerous. The classic Niva will live for at least another three years, but the plant decided not to make any investments. Therefore, we took the path of least resistance, implanting only one side inflatable “bag”. It was possible to install it for a passenger, but, again, it would be expensive. So the airbag in the Niva is installed not so much to protect the driver during an impact, but to protect it after an impact. Another confirmation of this: in the list of equipment on the official Lada website, the pillow is not mentioned, as if it doesn’t exist.

Although restyling did make one real contribution to safety. A pair of headrests were installed in the rear seat (there are none in the basic Classic configuration).

Sales statistics: an old horse doesn’t spoil the furrow

The confrontation between the old and new Nivas was won in favor of the old woman. Sales statistics for the Lada 4x4, now a Legend, claim 29,089 (-9%) copies, while the Shniva, now turned into a Travel, found 19,824 (-10%) buyers. In general, over the entire last year AvtoVAZ sold 343,512 cars, reducing the figures by 5 percent. Granta (126,112 units) and Vesta (107,281 units) remain the best sellers with a decline of 7 and 4 percent, respectively. The Largus station wagon attracted 37,166 (-14%) buyers. It should also be noted that the 5-door version of the Legend is chosen by a quarter of all future owners. The overall market decline in Russia was 9.1 percent with a total of 1,598,825 vehicles.

Tidy

Niva received a Vesta-style instrument cluster - with radial digitization, new scales and font - a few years ago, but as part of the limited edition “40 Anniversary”. Now the style has been preserved, but the instrumentation has been changed.

Auxiliary instruments have moved under the main dials of the speedometer and tachometer. Instead of two archaic displays, there was one modern one, white and black, with a trip computer and the same set of functions as on front-wheel drive Ladas. Design

The appearance of the Lada 4x4 has undergone virtually no changes after the modernization. The SUV only acquired a different front bumper, which for the first time in the history of the SUV had built-in fog lights. The car retained its square body, standard optics and radiator grille. In the Bronto version, there are also wheel arch extensions, an additional body kit along the bottom and larger external mirrors.

The main changes took place in the cabin. Thus, Lada 4x4 is now equipped with a more modern front panel, molded from lightweight plastic. On the modernized center console, the compartment for the radio has been lowered. The manufacturer placed 2 sockets under it. A new air conditioning control unit also appeared here: it lost its outdated sliders, which were replaced with more familiar levers.

At the same time, the manufacturer abandoned the old dashboard, taking it from Lada Granta. The SUV's deflectors have been replenished with an electric drive. In addition, engineers added higher-quality trim materials to the front support pillars and installed new grab handles and sun visors.

Vibration stand

The Niva's suspension was recently modernized; a more powerful power unit is too expensive. Therefore, in terms of driving characteristics, they made do with light “cosmetics”: they installed other power unit supports and an improved noise and vibration insulation package. Compared to the previous version, perhaps it has become better, but if you take the Niva out of the coordinate system closed on itself, then... everything is bad.

The transmission howl occurs simultaneously with the speedometer needle moving away from zero. It is so pronounced that by the change in timbre, passengers understand how hard the driver is pressing the gas pedal. At 85–90 km/h vibrations also appear (although the car shakes even at idle). As before, I don’t really want to drive more than a hundred. And this is a “zero” car with a mileage of barely 1000 km. What will happen when the “improved” supports wear out? Although there is a plus: neither the hum of studded tires nor the whistle of the wind can be heard at all; the transmission dominates in creating the driving background.

The future of the model on the market

A radical update of the Lada 4×4 has been asking for a long time. In this regard, our designers created renderings of a new generation model that would definitely be in demand among domestic car enthusiasts. It is expected that the SUV will move to a more modern “trolley” from Renault. But at the same time, the car must retain its main feature - it will still cope perfectly even with difficult off-road conditions. Externally, the car will become more brutal. Even aggressive elements will slip through in places. From the current version, only 3 decorative cutouts on the rear support pillars will remain. In the front part, a massive radiator grille combined with round optics will stand out. A wide body kit in contrasting black color will now be stretched along the bottom of the body. At the stern there will be a rectangular optic. It is noteworthy that the model will lose the usual spare wheel on the trunk door.

The technical characteristics of the model have not been officially announced. Most experts believe that the SUV will retain the same 83-horsepower naturally aspirated engine. However, if the car switches to a new architecture, it can be equipped with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine or an engine from Renault Duster. In this case, the drive will remain full.

The example of the recently presented Lada Niva Travel 2021-2022 shows that even after a radical redesign of the body, the car can retain the same engines. This means that under the hood of the new SUV the same 1.7-liter “aspirated” engine with a maximum output of 83 hp will be installed. It is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission and permanent drive, complemented by a two-speed transfer case.

But if we take into account that the appearance of the Lada 4x4 in the form shown in the rendered images will inevitably lead to a sharp increase in the weight of the car, it is likely that this version of the SUV will receive more powerful engines. That is, for this model they can prepare, for example, a 1.8-liter “atmospheric” unit with a maximum output of 122 hp. The possibility of a 1.5-liter turbodiesel engine, which could be borrowed from the Renault Duster, cannot be ruled out.

Possible faults

If the instrument panel of the VAZ 21214 has stopped working, this may be caused by various reasons.

What malfunctions are typical for the device:

  1. Light bulbs don't work. If all the backlight fails at once, most likely the problem lies in poor power supply. If only a few or one lamp does not work, then the indicator should be replaced with a new one.
